How much do you think it is worth now? Let me know in the comments! Please remember to subscribe if you haven't already!
Depending on where you sell it, I think you could hit $850-1000 for the piece. I think you have a great talent and an awesome eye for detail. It's amazing what some TLC and paint can do to a neglected piece of furniture. I love your work!
You may want to pin your question to the beginning of the comments.
I see some people saying almost the same price as the inspiration piece. Looks awesome, but the new one is new, name brand (status), and can probably get matching pieces.. Of course yours has the hand painted attraction for some people.
Question....Will the gold wax wear from the handles easy? Love the look of it.
It's beautiful $450 perfect exactly how you did it. Don't change a thing
That Shabby Guy
How much did you finally get out of this project? 😊
target the same audience of that other chest, then it will be "worth" the same.
I think your finished piece is actually prettier than the inspirational piece! Love it.
No annoying sound effects or techno music. thumbs up.
I agree! Love it
You know, the same community that watches content that involves hearing-damaging levels of noise is pretty upset about music for some reason.
I thought my Bluetooth stopped working when my headphones went silent, I’d rather have some sort of music in the back quiet during those times
Absolutely beautiful! Very well done! Just found your channel and I am loving it! Love your humble demeanor and honesty. Peace and Good Fortune to you and your family.
I think it would’ve been nice to have music during all of the time lapses. Just subtle music. The lack of sound and unnecessary noise from the paint gun thing resulted me in just skipping past it. 🤷🏽♀️
Never saw you before, but I have a desk I'd like to refinish so I watched. First, I love how it turned out!
Secondly, I would like to thank for being so specific about the products you used. That was very helpful.
I’m not a fan of the whole distressed/rustic look, but I sat through all 23 minutes of this video because I was mind blown at how transformed it was with each step of the process. Definitely appreciated this more than all the other DIY and furniture flipping videos I’ve seen. Great work!
I’m so glad you didn’t just cover it in chalk paint and “distress” it.
Excellent! Thank you for all the helpful information!
jayme lee yess!! I’m so over distressed furniture it’s too much you walk into a house every single pice of furniture is distressed
jayme lee yes 💩😂😂☝️
M J I think it’s lazy and easy. I want mine to look high quality and look good 10 years from now.
I know! All the crafting and furniture remaking channels always do it and I think a little is okay, but it kinda makes the furniture look shabby and crap. In the future people are gonna look back and be like, "What was the deal with all the destressed crap?" And then they are going to make it over again into something else. Idk, just my opinion.
I’ve gotta make a channel. The amount of views these videos get is crazy. My wife and I redo furniture on the side and I feel like people would enjoy seeing our results.
Give it a shot but expect a lot of extra work. :) The only reason my channel exists today is because people on Facebook were constantly asking "how did you do that" type questions and rather than answer them over and over, I made a few videos. I really had no intention of actually "doing UA-cam", being a creator, or whatever you want to call it. I just uploaded whenever I wanted. About 3-4 years into it, my channel started actually growing on its own, which lit a fire under my ass to work on it a little more throughout the past few years.
This year though.... I dont know what is going on. I've gone from new videos getting 1-2k views to now getting 20k-50k. 30-40 subscribers a day. Yesterday I got 800 subscribers. 😬 I dont know if I'm just getting better at being a creator or with my SEO, or what but it is really booming right now. Is the DIY craze picking up more steam? I dunno.
Point is, do it, but do it as a hobby just like how you (most likely) started painting furniture. If you remember anything, remember this: Consistency is key. Do what you enjoy, but upload good content consistently and people will find you.
Also, I record everything off of a near-shattered Samsung Galaxy S8, so go for it. :)
I think that's a great idea Justin!! Not only will you allow your buyer with quality how-to on their purchase, but you'll also get a fan base to market your pieces. Blessings on your new adventure!!
Yes, I love vids like this, and want to pick this up as a side hobby! I surprised myself when I redid an old jewelry box I found for 2 bucks at the thrift shop. Completely transformed it, and the process is fun. It’s so cool to see the transformation, and take pride in it and say “wow, I DID that!!”
Yes please! I paint furniture as well, but I never tire of watching the transformations of dated, worn out furniture with paint!
@@ThatShabbyGuy I think sustainability is a big issue so saving things from landfill is really trendy. I also think in this fast paced, stressful world, going back to the old crafts takes us back to better, quieter times and making things is so peaceful and rewarding. Then, of course, there's the financial aspect. A lot can't afford flash new things so prettying up bargain buys is a great thing to do. Having something different is always a bonus.
Usually painting over original wood is one of my pet peeves, but you made the original top part of the piece and made and absolutely gorgeous piece of furniture!
Wow, thanks!
From the video it is looks like dresser was in that better shape except in certain places. I am a big fan of natural wood, especially one that says well-made as that seems to be. But I do like to detail work you did, and the restoration of the top. The handles on the drawers look very well and you made them fit and look like they belong there. It’s a nice pair of work, and since I couldn’t be there to look at the overall quality of the finish, you cleaned it up nicely and added a nice touch of color. Thank you!
Loved how this piece turned out! I liked the stain on top of the turquoise and the gold wax...Great Job!
I had to chuckle when you said you "I always try to respond to comments, even when you're mean to me." But honestly, why do people have to be mean??! You put a lot of effort into this piece and it turned out beautifully.
No idea but the more popular my channel gets the more often I get some random rude person needing to let me know they woke up on the wrong side of the bed and are taking it out on UA-cam comments. These days I dont reply to rude comments anymore. They either get immediately deleted or I screenshot them and share them with my friends/family and we have a laugh at them. 😃
@@ThatShabbyGuy You can't make everyone happy. Constructive criticism can be helpful, but rudeness is a whole different issue. Good that you aren't spending too much time on the rude ones. You are doing a great job and I love your videos. Thanks for taking the time to share with us. I find your videos very helpful. 😘
If u have nothing nice to say,,,,,then just shut it and keep it to yourself. U did a gorgeous job
@@ThatShabbyGuy that's good advice not replying to rude comments, I've gotten those a lot before and I always find they're from losers who have like 7 videos and they all have low view counts and their liked playlist is filled with minecraft videos or other stupid video game clips that are really short. And they have like 3 or 133 subscribers. So fuck em, talking to them just gets you pissed off and wastes all your energy for a week.
@@mzzcookiecook I agree. Constructive criticism delivered in a respectful manner is always appreciated. But seriously, what can they find to criticize? This is the second of your videos I’ve watched today & both pieces are stunning! I only ask (as did another viewer) that you show us the before & after at the end so we can fully appreciate your work & give more “ooohs!” & “aaahs!” 🥰
The gold wax tied everything together. I'm gonna buy some.
Me too! I agree!
agreed! I am going to buy some now too.
Beautiful! Very inspiring what you did with that piece. Didn't know that you could put a stain over paint. Giving me ideas for my next project. Thanks for the great video!!!
Those who sold this piece to you for $10.00 are probably kicking their own butt! Just shows what a little ingenuity & work can do! Love it! Your videos are very inspirational & soothing to watch. A million thumbs up!!!
Late to this video, but wow! At first, when you stripped the top I was all "Oh, just clean the bottom part of the dresser and it would look really nice!" Then you showed us the paint. "Nooo! Don't paint the wood!" You painted the wood. " Oh, that looks really nice with such a smooth finish!" Then you showed us the dark walnut stain again. "Nooo! You'll ruin it!" You rubbed it clean. "Wow! That looks great!" Then came the gilding wax. "Oh no! Stop!" You showed us the results. "Dang, that looks like a really expensive piece of furniture/art!"
LOL Thanks for letting us come along on this DIY adventure! I wasn't too sure at the beginning, but, wow, you did amazing work!
lol. Thanks for watching and commenting!
You described my thinking through this video as well. I was laughing so much reading your comment. Great minds . . . :-)
I just noticed your name. Now I'm singing, "You make me feel - mony mony - so - mony mony - good - mony mony - yeah yeah yeah!"
I was thinking the same while watching the video 😂
EXACTLY what I did...lol. haha
Wow. This is why I love the internet. I didn't expect to watch someone repaint furniture but I'm glad I did. This is a type of art. You're a bonafide artist. It's really inspiring and enjoyable to watch you being willing to work so hard to create something. The dresser is beautiful. You did a great job.
I discovered your channel from Ginger Chic Rehab link. I subscribed before I watched my first video! You have probably heard this a thousand times but I’m going to tell you again...you’re amazing! I wouldn’t have done anything different as it is absolutely a stunning, one-of-a-kind piece of furniture. We are expecting 1 to 3 inches of snow in southern Illinois and I’m going to binge watch your videos!
Thank you!
Hats off for a fantabulous job! I think with the right listing, patience and marketing, your piece could net more than $900 👍🏼👍🏾!
Yours is not a hooker. It is a classy call girl
HE said it wasn't a Hooker but HIS inspiration piece was.
katforever18 I think you missed the joke 😂
He put a stripper on the hooker. 😂
🤣🤣
16:45
Me: "this is so ugly"
Him: *Puts gold on it
Me: "wow this is really cute" lmao
Yes, I was looking at the stripped top and thinking how nice the natural colour is and that it should be left that way. But then, by the end, I'd changed my mind. :-)
Very nice job...love it... I would love to have a Pieces like that in a emerald green color to place in a corner of my living room with that same gold wax finish.... but I am not that Creative..
Little details really change alot.
@@cmartin1857 Emerald green would be beautiful with the gold o:
looks like a character out of beauty and the beast
This turned out absolutely gorgeous!! I absolutely love the gold you added! I would not have changed a thing!
Incredible the talent you have and no need for music to see and understand step by step the method you use! He doesn’t make two like you!
what in the 18th century Versailles is this masterpiece??? sheesh. beautiful.
Hella Baroque!
Great video, loved the results! Great job.
You should title this video the Hooker/Stripper makeover- LoL 😂
So many possibilities for this one. 🤔
Kristen Evans
That’s FUNNY 😁 because the Gentlemen’s Club I worked for I used to call the Strippers.
Hookers! 🤣😂🤣
Kristen Evans and screw
How about I change the title to: "Doing a $900 Hooker One Night Stand?"
That Shabby Guy
How I got a $900 hooker one night stand for $10.
Absolutely gorgeous I’ve been mesmerized with your work but this piece turned out fabulous I love when you share all your techniques I’ve learned a lot by watching your videos thank you, Pam H
Wow! I’m speechless! From a messed up furniture, you created a beautiful, gorgeous, handsome furniture. Wish you could do that to a human being! Congratulations!
Bro watched the whole damn vid, you made it look so easy man
Today on random videos that pop up in my recommended feed: That Shabby Guy says "nah, I ain't spending $900 on a nightstand" and makes his own (arguably better) version of it.
I'm not even mad. You've earned yourself a sub.
Thanks! Great alternate title! Thanks for subbing also!
That blue and gold combo is just so classy. Great job!
I think you did a beautiful job. $500 easily in DFW. My personal taste runs to a SLIGHTLY darker shade of blue, but Turquoise is super popular. Thank you for your videos. It’s so nice to hear concise instructions and not a bunch of annoying music. Your edits and speed ups make it so easy to watch.
It looks like it belongs in Versailles. Beautiful!
Oh, and also: I totally agree w everyone about the no music thing. being a huge plus factor. I HATE that music ppl play.
Jeez yes!! The music sucks! I'd rather hear the sanding, spraying, etc. Anything but that shyte music!
Problem is, it's never music. It's Muzak! Blergh
So impressive!! I love how this piece turned out. I think I am going to ask for a paint sprayer as my quarantine birthday present from my husband. 😍
This was such a satisfying video. And you've upscaled the hell outta that piece. It's an amazing, one of a kind, unique piece of art. Love it! 🤟🏾
NICE JOB !!!! So well done. And while often overlooked....nice job on the editing too.
A little dresser like that, where I live...in even worse condition, would run around $150-upwards...so having fun with refinishing isn't an option any more. I miss the days of picking up old furniture for under 50 bucks. All the second hand, thrift stores and even garage sales, sell their stuff for boutique prices. It's as if they apply a price knowing what it COULD be...instead of what it is and instead of doing the work themselves. lol
I feel like this one looks better than the one on the add

@@herrpez lol thanks, I was watching this at like 2 in the morning 🤣
Wendy Venegas, I agree.
Absolutely lovely! Thank you for all the “backstage” details you provided regarding the products you used (for us newbies this is phenomenal) Since I’m new to your channel, I’ll just claim ignorance and go ahead and ask- are we allowed to be so bold and inquire how much this piece actually sold for? (Approx sale price of course) Lol! Thank you so very much, what a fantastic and extremely educational video this was for me!
I concur
I literally yelled NO when you started to put the dark stain on that beautiful color but t turned out gorgeous. Then when you started guilding it you got another no, no, but you know your stuff. It is absolutely gorgeous.
Absolutely beautiful! This look is the authentic looking "antique" that people love and you can certainly see all the hard work you put into this piece.
Bro, that looks amazing! I've been watching a lot of videos, and really want to do this but kind of intimidated and don't want to mess up. I've watch a lot of woman make these beautiful pieces and wonder if I can do it to. Watching you, another guy, definitely gives me hope. Your piece came out amazing. When I saw you use that stain on the blue, I was like what are you doing, and then I was like, oh wait, wow. Thank you for posting this video.
It is intimidating at first but it's one of those things you just have to do to learn it. It can be frustrating but the end results are rewarding. Jump in and go! Good luck! Thanks for watching.
I wouldn't change a thing. This piece is absolutely gorgeous. You did a fantastic job and I'm inspired to try this now.
Your eye for detail makes your work in a league of its own.
You did an awesome job on this! I wasn’t sure when you first started doing your job on it but I kept watching and you really impressed me with your technique. I loved the end result. I’m so grateful you posted it. Thank you for inspiring all of us!!
You created a one-of-a-kind Designer Boutique Art Piece. You did not use junky, ratty furniture- you opted for an originally high-end item and make it into 100% ART. If it was something I made starting with such original quality that evolved into such a stunning end-product I would not consider accepting less than $600. I would initially start at close to $750. Although I do not do Social Media maybe you could promote it via those sources. Also, be certain you state if you will or will not ship. That can be very difficult, even when the customer agrees to pay both the packaging and shipping/insurance fees. (Also decide in advance if you want to bother with local deliveries. Not something I will ever do again.) Boutique furniture is awesome. If you know someone that owns a designer ladies clothing shop maybe you could ask if they would like to utilize it as a display/storage item - stating if it is purchased you would give them a percentage, I usually state 10%. They have the pleasure of enjoying and utilizing the item while enhancing their boutique. 2 shops actually ended up purchasing a few of my pieces. Do not devalue your work.
I agree when you said ‘that is really blue!’ The glazing toned it down nicely. The gilding wax is impressive! Nice job!
This is absolutely gorgeous! I love the colour choices you've made here. Your videos are so well done, very informative and inspirational. I feel like I might be able to tackle the old dresser in my garage now. Thank you, thank you!
I LOVE how you wear respirators and gloves.
Thank you for setting a good example!
Beautiful job, this is a "one of a kind" piece. Love your tutorials, you are a great teacher. No silly sound effects or annoying music, just your voice explaining the project. Love it!
I love the lack of hokey music. Just product info and good technique. This piece is glorious. The only thing I could imagine doing different is maybe an ivory or antique white color instead of blue. You do fantastic work!
WoW ! What a transformation ! Meticulous methods, steps, it came out beautiful !
That is gorgeous!!! You didn’t need to change anything. I’m painting my antique store find while watching you! Never tried the aging with stain-gonna go for it now!
Have to admit I was afraid of the teal color. After the end, it is Gorgeous!! Very inspiring!!
Oh my God, you know your stuff! This is absolutely gorgeous and educational, too. Thanks!
Beautiful piece of art, and I love that you be “keeping it real” in these videos , you the man, man!🤓
Very beautiful! I love the time and care you put into making the dresser, it’s absolutely gorgeous!!😍
Love the blue and gold! Great color selection.
Absolutely beautiful. I enjoyed watching you turn that old piece of furniture into something beautiful.
OH MY GOSH!!!!! Once again, it's BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!! The hardware really made it!!! Excellent!!!!! LOVE it!!! NICE JOB!!!!!
WOW! What a gem! You have done such a super look and finish!
Stripper & Hooker. Most entertaining DIY ever! 😂 Love the finished project!
Thank you!
Great work. Thanks for showing color! Turquoise is one of my faves.
Even more Classic looking than in original form . Perfect Cottage/Lake House/Beach House piece of furniture. Great for framed pictures n nice floral arrangement. Super job.
It’s a gorgeous piece- hard work and patience paid off.
Wow! What a great job! Not so shabby mr shabby guy!!!
I wish I had it so that I could create the best shabby boho room with it as the centrepiece !
I never would have thought of putting timber stain on over paint, but it looked great!
It turned out beautiful!! Makes me want to try something like that. I love the color! Thank you for sharing.
My mom and I have gotten hooked on watching your videos tonight! You are so talented! Just amazing! A true artist! I don't see where anything other should be done to anything that you do.
Lol awesome! Thanks for watching. Tell your mother I said hello!
Wow!! You are very good at that! We just bought a couple of end tables at Goodwill for $15...(lol, I go on Tuesdays for senior discount of 25%) so it's my intention to redo them to match the finished coffee table we just bought, from someone that refurbished it. After watching you, I think this one gal can do it too!
Looks like a beauty and the beast night stand
It's beautiful. I love it. Wow. That should be in a palace. Well done.
Thanks for the ideas. And the different machinery. Love the dresser.
I dunno how I got here, but im still watching! 😂
I dont know either but I'm glad you found me. Hope you can stick around!
Same! It was on my home page recommended to me. And here we are.
Glad to have you!
I get bohemian vibes from this dresser and the colours selected! It's gorgeous 😍😍
My only wish is for you to have added a picture at the end of the piece before; to see the progress! Great work
Llllll
It’s awesome great job, I’ve been playing around with some old pieces that I’ve found in a thrift shop next to my job and really enjoyed making them new and beautiful again, hopefully I’ll be as good as you one day, Thanks for sharing your talents with us!
From "burn it" to "sell it". Not my taste but you did a great job and I watched every minute.
Not my style either but still really beautiful.
Same, I surprisingly didn't fast fwd to the end.
Watching you spray that paint was so satisfying. I want a paint sprayer now! Great job!
Wow I love it!!!! I love the gold with the turquoise, and staining the top was an awesome choice! My favorite of your videos so far. Thanks😁
I have found your channel in the last couple of days. I am absolutely amazed at your work.
You are a true artisan,
Thank you so much 😀
I love the instruction you give. Many people show what they do, but you explain it. Thanks!
And for showing ALL THE PRODUCTS! 🙌🏼 I need to know exactly what things to buy for certain steps! Surprising how many people will leave that out in their videos!
Love that dresser. I think it’s perfect
Love it! I'm envious of your hardware collection!!! 💕
The paint job was extremely satisfying to watch
Well you've got me wanting to get back to doing more projects again. Thankyou
I hope you do. Even if it is just for a hobby. We all need something to distract us from daily life.
I'd like to know what you get for your pieces when you're finished...they look amazing!
Okay, I was thoroughly entertained and I learned a thing or two. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
You did a very professional job and you were able to sell it. That's always a plus! It's beautiful and I would have been tempted to keep it. Thanks so much for sharing your passion.
Super sweet. Lots of work and yes it inspired me to repaint a black piece I have. It’s beautiful 💕
I LOVED THIS!!!!!!
This made me want to use that Gold Dixie Bell Wax!!!!! AWESOME job!!!
Gorgeous work! I think it's worth quite a bit now. Love the color. Love the gold. Beautiful.
It's perfect! Very inspiring! I love all the details!
Lovely job, it looks amazing! My husband and I plan on refinishing all of our furniture over the winter, it's way too hot in Arizona right now. We have learned so much from your videos, and can't wait to get started. We will share pictures 😊 when the job is done. Thank you for sharing all of your art work, it's amazing.
This blows my mind! So talented. Thanks for sharing.
You've done an excellent job. I was hesitant on doing a job like this but because you took your time, and you did everything step by step instead of rushing, I will definitely try this. Thank you, and again, great job
Elegant with a modern color. Love it!
This is the best furniture makeover I’ve watched the end result is beautiful.
I preferred your to the one you were inspired by 😊
BEAUTIFUL PIECE !! It came out way better than the one of the picture, Well done and thanks for sharing !!
This is beautiful. Great job. Love this technique. Thanks for sharing.
This is awesome! Gorgeous color! The wood carvings really make the piece. Well worth $900.00 in the after pictures!
I love it. It turned out beautiful. Plus I am learning what you do because I have to do something with my kitchen table top.
That is a lovely result! I have a similar nightstand which would look great with that treatment. I don't have the sprayer though, which seemed like such an enormous help.
A lot of people find the process of painting with a brush therapeutic. You might consider giving it a try. The only reason I use a sprayer is because I do this for a living. Time = money. :)
You are truly talented!!!! Artistic in every sense of the word!!!!
