By the way, I am aware that things were different in the Light Novel and there was cut content but I only wanto to cover the episode as presented in the anime since that is what we got. Light Novel adaptations just by their nature are going to have cut content :/

The problem with this episode isn't that there was cut content in it, just like almost every other episode of the entire series.
The problem is what they decided to cut.
They rushed through a part of the story that they really should have spent another episode on.
It's stuff that's pretty fucking important to the entire future story, even if only indirectly.
First of all: Roxy feels like a completely different character, after this part of the story, depending on whether you read the novel or watched the anime. They skipped over some pretty damn important details for _this_ event of all things. It's like the characterization of the main cast got shot in the foot, which is even more egregious when you consider how important "characterization" is for this story.
Second of all: Rudeus pretty much told Roxy about his past life, in a roundabout way (kinda like "I had this friend who..."). Even if this isn't directly referenced in future parts of the story, just the fact that Roxy heard it is pretty important for her characterization, going forward.
There's more I could say, but you get the gist.

Saw this know what its about and gonna throw my 2 cents in . In the novel Rudy would not have traveled back to Sylphy if Roxy did not do what she did. He was so depressed and had no one close enough to him to support him . Roxy did what she had to do and Rudy messed up. Sylphy forgave him and Roxy . Sylphy knew Rudy was a horndog and kinda knew it would happen eventually.

There are so many ways you can come at this. The morality of the world is different, then add to the fact that they were both grieving the loss of Paul, Roxy is also the one person who has had the biggest impact on helping to over come his soul crushing issues. They are still messed up for doing it by our moral standards. But to see Rudy struggle with it is in a way kind of redeeming because he still holds on to his morality and sense of duty as a soon to be father. And I think Norn taring into him as a counter balance was a nice touch. Im just a little shocked for sylph to take it as well as she did expected or not. she didnt say one harsh word to the two of them and openly accepted Roxy.

I agree. I have never defended rudeus actions or claimed he is some amazing person, and the show does not do that either. The show is really not shy about pointing out his obvious flaws. It baffles me people want a perfect MC who never makes a bad decision. Rudeus may make bad decisions and have insane personality flaws, but he is still a good person with good intentions who genuinely loves both roxy and sylphie, displaying an actual polygmaous relationship and not a harem, like some people tried to make it out to be. Polygamy is not my jam, but who am I to judge. You also have to realize all of the hardships rudeus has been through in both lives. All in all, people want a perfect MC and have obsene expectations. They made him the way real people are, imperfect, and I appreciate that.

Scene of aggressive Roxy written with participation of Rifujin, Author of Mushoku Tensei. Changed to appeal to wider audience. Light Novels have scene turned around. Rudy pulled Roxy back to him. He initiated things. The surviving party had been discussing breaking Rudy's depression. Sex suggested. Elinalise refused. No one wanted to talk to Lilia about it. Roxy went in willing to do whatever to get Rudy on his feet.

It was fine. Even in most of history infidelity has been an open secret, especially among people of noble lineage (which Rudeus is). What's more, polygamy is normal in this world (and ours in many places and times, as well as out natural instinct). As for the timing, it is also fine. You think "heckin therapy" existed before the 20th century? Someone you like being intimate with you is as valid a way of reaching out to comfort someone as any other, especially for a man. Sorry, that's just how it is. You don't have an argument against this unless you're religious, so go cry into the wind if you think it's bad because Christianity said it's bad and you think they were right even though to you don't believe in God.

I mean its hard for me to not see Mushoku as peak. The art style is fantastic, theres a colossal depth to the world that can be seen without excessive exposition. There is an almost extreme depth to literally every character, and every single bit of it is show dont tell so the audience isnt treated like we are stupid, and if you sit down and rewatch the show or think about things you start to peace together the world and characters and how things relate to other things. And then add on top of that our "over powered protagonist" isnt over powered hes powerful to be sure but its been shown multiple times that he is far from OP. There are monsters and people more powerful or able to get one over on him if hes not careful. The show is genuinely great to the point where Im not liking a lot of other shows coming out because they are so shallow and lacking depth of any kind.

At the end of the day, the author is nasty. This is a loser's fantasy and of course the MC needs a harem. So we have to go through mental gymnastics to try and justify him cheating on her and somehow make it okay. It's everyone's fault but Rudy's because we can't go on and dislike him or whatever

    • @sandwichman6765
      @sandwichman6765 5 місяців тому

Who is we? There will be those who justify anything. That much is true with any piece of fiction. But that alone doesn't make it ok. Nor does it make it the general audience consensus. Mushoku Tensei has a highly divided and critical fanbase with various opinions and views. Many people who are genuine fans of the series didn't like this moment in the light novel either. Granted it was handled better.
If anything when reading the light novel you blame both Roxy and Rudy. No one is innocent in this specific situation. So, I don't get what you're saying when you state that we can't dislike or blame Rudy for anything. As If the show multiple times even aside from this instance hasn't made it clear. We aren't supposed to like all his life choices, but despite that, he's still a great protagonist with depth and complexity.

I nean, the author is very problematic and wrote this episode this way as a way of trying to give reasons for us that what Rudy is doing is okay. I detest Rudy because of his previous and current actions but it seems that the author is trying to make up a scenario where what Rudy is doing is not disgusting. @sandwichman6765 5 місяців тому

What didn't I comprehend?? You claimed that we have to play mental gymnastics to justify his cheating on his wife. Which like I've pointed out isn't necessary. I'll reiterate not one person in this scenario is innocent nor do they lack any responsibility. If you could explain why we as the audience in your words "HAVE" to try and justify his cheating I'd like to hear it since I have no idea where you've reached this conclusion after watching this display of infidelity.
I'm equally confused as to how this scenario the author constructed gives us any reason as to why what he's doing is ok. He has agency. Sure he was at his low point but he knew what he was doing and actively chose to not stop Roxy when she was on top of him. If that in your mind falls under the author trying to make what Rudy did ok then that's a bit strange. But to each their own. Maybe there was something else. If so let me know. Since I am assuming here.

If you don't find the show complex that's fine. Since the show doesn't go into as much depth as the light novel. But even then everyone has what they interpret as complex or not. So I completely understand how you feel.

That's why Mushoku Tensei is the GOAT of character building, It's way too REAL and even the hater don't realize it that they subconsciously resonate with the anime and that's why there is disgust you feel in this anime, you believe what you see, grief, joy, envy, anger, they all feel real. And also you realize that in this anime, no one's immortal. That why Game of Thrones was a huge success, anyone can die and will die, and they all had lives before and after we join them, same as Mushoku. And I also agree with the observation that, it's ok in other anime, but when Rudy does something suddenly it's not ok. Why the bias ? I tell you why because it resonates with real life.

Dude, even as a diehard fan of Mushoku Tensei, this episode felt weird as fuck.
The problem wasn't the events that happened, but the way those events were portrayed.
It just felt like it came out of nowhere, with Roxy jumping to the most drastic option available like some horny bitch, since they skipped entire conversations and weeks of time where this was shown to be a kind of "last resort". Like, it still could have been fine if they left atleast one of the conversations in, but no. They just completely skipped everything.
I've been keeping up with the "cut content you missed" series of videos from AniNews, and none of the other cut content in the series felt like something truly essential to the story, unlike this. The characters are the most important part of this story, so the fact that they kinda almost managed to "ruin" (dunno how else to word it) multiple characters of the main cast in a single episode is pretty impressive.

what surprises me the most is that, there is so much worse things that other characters in other anime have done, yet when rudeus does it, it is somehow worse than the millions light yagami killed and the far worse things the other mcs have done, for me the answer here is that, mushoku tensei is so immersive that people are as disgusted of his actions as if it actually happened, no one will be laughing if kira existed, and vice versa, if the holocaust or other controversial events in the world was fictional, it would have been treated just like how we treat kira in the anime, most likely people would even end up making merch of mustache man.
