Elder dragon of wind, aka I’ve fallen and I can’t get up from wind press

well, he's mostly on the ground when I'm fighting him lol, but yeah it can be pretty annoying.
Wind press is a bitch in FU. You need 20 points to be immune to everything, and not all monsters have winds that strong (Teo/Chameleos/Kushala are the ones I can remember that have Dragon Wind). Wind resistance is nice and all, but you shouldn't bother with it unless you have a set to farm an elder dragon. Even if that, only Kushala and maybe Chameleos' WP is annoying
came back to MHFU after a year now, and I improved a bit. and, now this is my first time reaching Daora. and, man, is he troublesome, he's the first monster that I struggled with this much, lol. (since the start of me coming back, at least.) and so I'm here again, thanks, man.
That's great to hear! Good job! 😄 Daora is pretty tough, for sure, I recommend using Greatsword if you can.

I am actually a GS main. and, I just killed him earlier, lol. the wind aura's def. the big issue for me. poisoned him though and quickly shattered his head. it is really tough though. but, thanks to you I got 'em.

Poison was good for this fight, the poison battle axe helped me beat Kushala as the poison weakened his wind knock back ability, seemed to work better than dragon weapons just for the anti knock back

Great guide mate! Also another attack of his is a an aerial back hop followed by an air bullet. It has no anticipation and can be a surprise when fighting him.

Hi fellow hunter! newly subbed here thank you so much for committing your time and knowledge of my favorite childhood game to give us really practical and helpful guides to work our way up to the higher ranks and tougher monsters 👍 its all due to your guide i nailed my first encounter with the Kushala decades after i last hunted him and against my initial assumption it was a total BLAST. idk why i ever tarried that much to fight him lol. LR Tigrex hunting horn and Lunastra/Tigrex armor set and staggering him like a madlad as often as manageable through the openings you pointed out was even more fun and a piece of cake that i thought. now i'm more than prepared for Lao-shan and the rest of that sheer HR suffering later lmao this channel is a blessing thanks again man keep this up

Definitely, the armor I use in the video is Garuga Mask, and the rest is Tigrex, you get Earplugs which is very useful.

Nice guide. It a bit weird to see an elder dragon this early after you just got done fighting tiggy but that mhfu for you. Weird ass quest line ups. The only thing I really would've added is the showing of getting of lvl 3 charges in between his wind blasts but the timing is really tight.

Yeah! If you look at the quest lines for the games things tend to escalate a bit rapidly, when I was first playing the game it took me so long for each monster, it was an adventure, a journey, now when I play I'm like "Oh shit, I'm at Tigrex already?" lol, I guess they wanted to (and imo did) strike a balance between slow enough for new players but fast enough for veterans to get to the late game pretty quickly if they wanted. Especially in the guild hall.

Is it possible to kill this bastard during first encounter? This guy was so infuriating to fight against, his head is so annoying to hit because of constant flailing and claw attacks when flashed, the wind barrier in general was a total ass and if you haven't managed to stagger or break the head as the poison fades away then it activates the barrier all over again(sometimes, even earlier than expected). Seriously, if it weren't for this guide then i wouldn't be able to fight against this guy. The amount of HP was absurd, i even had a Rathalos armor set + Diablos Greatsword just to make sure i can kill him in one try but at best i just managed to make it flee. It's amazing that you managed to clear it with that equipment.

If you're not using a long enough weapon to hit his head and/or can't poison him consistently, then yeah it's going to be an awful time honestly :(
I've fought him with LS with some success as well. (the nekoht one in particular with the g-rank moveset)
I'm glad I was hopefully able to help you out :) Even if Kushala has the wind aura, you can technically hit his head without being blown back, but it takes pretty good positioning and isn't possible with weapons that are too short.
The HP value is high, but that's kinda because they expect you to fight him multiple times, and because it's an Elder Dragon. With some practice and good equipment, I'm sure you'll be able to clear him in one run 🙂

@@zed499 Good choice, swaxe is fun. Save axe mode for whenever you can't reach a tail, or when a monster is down so you can spend all your stamina (I don't know the exact numbers for the infinite swing [Triangle + Circle -> Circle to begin the infinite] and if it's better than sword mode'd damage output). Besides that, sword will always trump axe in terms of damage, blame capcom for making the sword so good.

Watching your videos inspired me to finally check out Freedom unite! I played a bit of the iso port but just couldn't get past those controls. I'm new to ppsspp so I was wondering what Graphic's setting you'd recommend. If any at all

I'd say go into game and start changing settings to see what they do, if you're on pc you can change the settings while the game is running from the top of the window, "Game settings>Rendering resolution" etc.
I have mine set to 3x rendering resolution, 3x texture scaling, and Supersampling AA as the Postprocessing shader.
I think those will do the most, but feel free to tweak those and mess with other things as well.
I once farmed this grumpy old man's item using only a Rathalos Armor and Wyvern Blade Fire. Was a good achievement because i had to fight him for 20 times to get his horns and tails

I'm more better at using bows than swords n I remember in my first encounter how I was mad cause he just froze me with his breath n also my arrows deflected back at me. After 2 or 3 trials I finally learned to hit in his head or tail n whenever he tries to fly just use the flash to bring him back on the ground n then use the poison arrows n some other powered up arrows n then finally defeated him.

Same. As a beginner, I thought the norm was using ranged for kushala but didn't realize wind negate and earplugs were a thing. Now I'm just cringing at my younger self raging about it.

A tip to starters from a fellow Unite veteran:
When using big weapons like greatswords or hammers to hit weak spots, back up a little bit. Hitboxes in Unite are quite wack, so, for example, if you tried hitting the head and you're too close, you'll hit the neck instead, which is not the "sweet spot" of most monsters (you'll know it's a sweet spot when there's more blood splatter and you feel the weight of your attack), resulting in very low damage.

Yep, I actually just made a video about another monster that also gets repelled at around 25 minutes, it's useful to know about if you're not able to kill it in one go, and some monsters, especially in the guild hall, it's unlikely that you can kill it in one round, and that's okay :)

You know, there is something i have been wondering
Which type of way to determine what weapon is good at dealing damage on monsters?
The raw damage, The sharpness, or The element?
Because some weapons are good because of their raw damage for killing Low rank and High rank but low sharpness(Example Akantor weapons)
But some weapons are good because they have high sharpness(Example Copper Blagonga and Nargacuga weapons)
Now at least i understand Gunner weapons just need at least a high attack stat, good elemental damage for bow, a good charge attack for bow, bullets LBG and HBG can use and rapid fire bullets LBG can use

It shows some interesting things, such as one common misconception that the tigrex weapons aren't good because of their negative affinity. It's really not that bad, and they're usually just fine.

Elder Dragons are tough, for sure! But they're not invincible.
I avoid fighting and farming them for this series as they are optional and I don't want to expect players to deal with that if they don't want to, but feel free to keep trying, their gear is pretty neat.
This helped a lot my man! But I can't cut his tail and head. He's too fast for me! And that gust of wind really ticks me off! Btw I'm playing it on PPSSPP emulator so it's a little hard because sometimes the buttons freeze especially in my right dpad so I go round and round.
Glad to hear it, I might eventually make a video talking about how to break/cut a few parts but I'm not too sure about it right now. Good luck though! If you can break his head, it should stop his wind aura, then you should have an easier time getting to his tail.
@@HeadHunter455 I just did it man! At the quest "The elder dragon of wind", but still, I'm not doing much damage, but I broke something in his head, because he wasn't able to use the wind gust anymore. Still not doing any damage, cause I can't kill him. He always flee😞

Thanks, uh, not really, I think you'll have a much better time of it if you break his head first and/or get dragon wind resistance. Devil Slicer's a good weapon, you can check this guide for info on what weapons you can get throughout the game.

I thought I was getting better at monster hunter. I watched the whole video. I read the faq over and over. I just can't seem to even get close to beating him. I get hit by his ice beam over and over. I can't do anything when he's in his wind cloat. I poisoned him and then i died. I came back and poison was gone. I missed 8/10 of my flashes. I've been grinding for the last 2 days to get gear and items for him and tigrex but it ended up being a pathetic 5 minute fight that i lost. Khezu was hard and took me 7 tries but at least i got somewhere so i knew i could win.Idk man i honestly just wanna cry.

A lot of dumb people will make the game out like it's really easy but it's just not, it's tough.
Playing the game in general takes a lot of practice, each monster has their own things to look out for, and you'll get better over time, also some weapon types vs some monsters are easier or harder than others.
The wind aura is difficult to deal with if you can't reliably hit his head from outside of it, which is a big reason I use the Great Sword. Poison is pretty short lived, unfortunately :( Using a poison weapon can have him poisoned more reliably, but they usually do less damage than weapons of similar power, and the amount of hits it takes to poison him will go up each time you poison him. If you're able to knock him down, it'll deactivate the aura temporarily. I know this is kinda retreading stuff from the video, hopefully that's not too annoying. I'm assuming you're fighting him in the village quests, but just in case, if you're in the guild hall, remember they have more health and might even deal more damage.
All I can say is try and use the gear I'm using in the video (or better, if you can) I highly recommend a strong raw Greatsword, using poison in solo isn't really practical, unfortunately.
Upgrade your armor, practice using flash bombs (they're tricky tbh)
It's okay to fail, it's not okay to give up. Take a break if you need to, you can do it! Take your time, you'll get better!
Hey thanks man. I really look up to you and it means a lot to me that you personally took the time to type all of that for me. I am using ravager blade + because it has high raw and I'm using garunga armour set with health +20 and earplugs
It's elder **** star quest.
Btw while i have your attention, you recommend many weapons or armour pieces that aren't as easy to find. For example monster bone + is extremely hard to find in low rank because none of the monsters who usually drop it ,do in low rank. I have all garunga pieces except the vambraces and i can't get blue claw because correct me if I'm wrong it also requires monster bone +. I read that u need to be village level 4 or higher or farm it in hr3 but it's been kinda rare for me in there too. I still haven't found anything and it's made me give up on monster bone + for now until i start farming tig.
Also from personal experience i think i have gotten a bit better at evading (when I'm not greedy XD) but my biggest issue is aiming. I miss my gs and ls hits so much and it's pretty sad. I was wondering if you could maybe do a aiming tutorial or something idk because i feel like I'm missing something big that I don't notice in gameplay videos.

damn dawg its been 2 years. cannot believe i stopped monster hunter here at kushala (well actually controller broke). just finished the 2nd quest to slay him. genuinely wasnt that difficult (tigrex was harder but we farmed him) just needed more practice and focus. haha we did it :)

Thanks, I have hitzones listed in the description. These guides are kinda meant to be like "How do you beat this the first time you meet it" which is why I'm using gear that you can only get before fighting it (No tigrex armor while fighting Tigrex for example)

i've held off on the 4* kushala quest for a bit, and i've managed to make the naag serpentblade (remobra poison lance), would it be advisable to bring it along for this fight discounting any possible armor set bonuses (i'm usually running cephalos with hunger and cold increase gemmed out)? or should i try to build more around the poison? or, would it be better to make the growling wyvern or take my black katana mk2 LS?

@BananaMan-vg7dm well, at this point we don't have many good options for wind resistance, I think, so, I think it's important to bring a weapon with decent reach and mobility.
You may be able to make it work tbh, but you'd have to space yourself properly to hit him outside of his aura, and tbh I dunno how that'd really play out.
I'd say that Longsword would be better, you can play similarly to how I did in this video, I remember farming high rank daora with some good success with LS actually.

Tbh Kushala and Teostra are similar, you kinda spend the whole fight hitting his head to try and topple him, then when he's toppled, try and damage his head more to make it easier to do it again, rinse and repeat.
Also, Kushala is an optional monster, unlike Khezu, so there's always that 😄

Maybe, I think I got lucky doing one round with Kushala lol, my other runs were always two rounds.
If you optimize your gear, make sure to eat for buffs (or drink a mega demondrug) and make sure to refresh your power seed buff, you might be able to, but I dunno.
Just realised why da heck the gs looks so small when you are not using it and then its gets 50% bigger when you draw it 🤔

You can't get yian garuga armor before killing kushala in the 4 stars village quest, right? I'm suffering right now with my blangonga/ceanataur armor, even w/upgrades. The wind aura and roars make this fight so difficult I swear.
Kushala Daora is an optional fight, Yian Garuga unlocks in 4 star as long as you've slain at least 10 yian kut-ku

I did too tbh. Only Teostra and Lunastra I think. It has to take at least 1 point of dragon element damage, and enough ordinary damage, and has to be under 60% HP.
Found this online, kinda neat, if it's how it works:
"Like when you're using BGs - if you spam Dragon shots at the start of the fight, nothing happens when he gets to 60% HP. But if you start with other shots and only use Dragon S when it's on low health, the horns will break."
I mopped him with the exceptional insect sword upgrade number 1(i forgor the name)
Killed him in 1 round

Do u have any tips by any chance for a hammer? It should be triple pound after flashing i'll assume but i find poking after a small opening tend to be hard when i use a hammer
Sorry but I'm not super sure. My go to weapon for Kushala is Greatsword both because of the range as well as the damage. Hammer may be too short range and you could be knocked around by his wind aura, but I can't say for sure. Good luck!
