I work for Walmart and if something is $3 and the coupons says $4 off that’s a big no no. We can’t do that cuz that’s sketchy. The product has to be greater than the coupon of what it says. That’s another thing
I've seen that first hand...Accused someone of fraud, said she can go to jail...Wasn't even the cashier, hadn't looked @ coupon...She said these are legit from coupon site, let's it go w/ no fuss, other cashier was still going in...She said I don't have a problem why are you still arguing...She told me she has no problem @ any other DG stores...Gave me a tip on continuing also...I was like REALLY!..
@@kaitlyndeyette9951 In my experience, most stores have it set to only allow up to the amount of the product. I have used $1 coupons on $0.99 items (due to sales) and my receipt shows $0.99 off with no overage.
So when y'all use a coupon and it doesn't work please don't threaten the cashier. They are just scanning stuff. They really don't have amy control. The computer does it all. Calling corporate on someone who makes 7.25 an hour is just viscous.
So the cashiers arent supposed to understand how to scan coupons? Doesnt seem fair to imply you know the couponer is WRONG but poor you for having to scan it anyway. I mean...if you see someone shoplifting do you tell your manager or loss prevention? Or is the process to just be annoyed?
As a couponer who could go through 40 coupons at a time I made sure everything was legal and I appreciate all the work you cashiers do to help, with honest ones, even when you're faced with all that fraud on a daily basis. Thank you!
@@leashantachism8859 Because fraud is illegal. I work at a law firm and we've had people use that excuse when trying to use fake paperwork for a class-action medical lawsuit. It's hurting the company who issues the coupons, it's hurting the store because the company isn't going to payout misused coupons, it's hurting the cashiers who get fired for those frauds (I worked at Walmart when I put myself through college and that happened all the time), and it's hurting the people who are also trying to help their families are affected by changes made to rules because of frauding people. It hurst a lot of people, and if you get caught and arrest or at the very least sued for fraud, it'll be hurting you and possibly your family.
I have watched you for quite a while, and my respect for you today went up like 10 million percent. You are a true role model and I really hope the new coupons learn the proper ways from you. A girl that lives in my area was arrested for coupon fraud. She was one of those that when u called her out on it, she would tell u to mind your business. Well, she sure didn't tell the judge to mind his business when he sentenced her. Thank you for teaching us to coupon the right way.
This is crazy! I never even knew you could use coupons for anything other than what was on the coupon itself. To many people are so darn greedy and its disgusting that they would do things like this to try to ruin it for the true couponers who actually do it the correct way!
I had no idea a coupon could work for a product that it wasn’t intended for? Thank you for letting us know. This kind of behavior is ridiculous. It’s stealing and it only hurts the community in the long run.
They go to self checkout to avoid having the coupons read, because it doesn't beep. They use an app called Qseer that tells them what coupon can be used on another item than specified. It's crazy.
At my Walmart just last night I had coupons that I’d pulled off the items in the store, and they weren’t scanning at checkout, the cashier actually told me that mngmnt told them they can’t take them(the directly on the product peeled off coupons)if they don’t scan, that there’s nothing she can do. She shrugged her shoulders and told me my total and asked me how I wanted to pay. I didn’t like her attitude but money is money and when you have very little, every cent counts. 15$ may not seem like much to her but that’s gas for my car, I told her I’ve never had this issue, they usually just input the amount and take it off my total, she just repeated mngmnt said she had to deny all coupons that don’t scan, so I asked for the manager. The manager came over and had to tell her that if coupons are removed from the items in the store, then they’re valid regardless. The manager then asked her if she’d been voiding coupons that were taken off products in the store bc they didn’t scan....it was apparent that when training or even when mngmnt is going over coupons w the employees they’re not explaining it correctly or they’re going over it in a way that the employees don’t understand. If you’re unsure or even if you are sure, always ask to talk to a manager so they can correct the issue or tell you directly from the horses mouth the coupon policy. So many are afraid of confrontation or causing a potential scene, don’t be and don’t worry bc it’s your money and you need to understand why this happened, to fix it on your end or for them to fix it on there end.
Which is why coupons.com totally minimized their printable coupons they offer. When I first started they had maybe a hundred of coupons available to print....right now they only have 31🥺....and now stores are changing their policies....we have a store here in Hawaii that no longer allow printable coupons. The fraud game is strong and affecting those who do it right SMH
YES. When I was at CVS they had just changed the coupon policy. This one woman wanted me to key in her expired and duplicate coupons. I politely told her no. She starts making a scene. Saying that she drove over 30 miles to get here, and this isn't her normal store but she was in town because she just got out of the hospital. Then she tells me how she knows the SM, Barb, so she will get me in trouble. And I told her Barb should be in tomorrow. And she can call or come in. She left, upset. The kicker is, all Store Managers first and last names are posted outside, for the world to see. Of COURSE you know her name.

I have to be honest with you Erica, I am still in the FB group, but for a bit chose to limit my interaction bc I noticed a lot of ppl trying to pull a fast one, misusing coupons, and being rude, esp when called out. Some things were newbie accidents of course. I know you and the moderators were warning and cleaning house towards Dec/Jan. For that, I applaud you. Any of us little ppl calling those out who were blatantly abusing coupons/stores were called names, considered jealous, etc. With that said, I have noticed less of that hostilty in the group and I think you guys are doing a great job weeding out the bad apples. Thank you for being an honest couponer and making a PSA such as this that coupon fraud is not okay on ANY level.
Crystal when I first started couponing I didn't know any better like Erica said....and some of the old heads would just be straight out nasty about it...I think it's the way things are said...I got VERY offended
@@joyce9857 I very much agree with your statement as I had once been new and had to learn things through trial and error as well. Many mistakes. I guess I should have clarified that there was a lot of hostility towards ppl who were kindly pointing it out, but yes, there are even some "holier than thou" types that seem to crucify those making honest mistakes. In the past, there were a lot who were just being nasty in the group when a lot of seasoned couponers (and some of Erica's mods) were trying to kindly teach. Nasty- that's not what Erica or OCC is about. I was just glad to see her and her team able to solve a lot of that within the group. It needs to be a positive place to share, to learn, and be taught- I think that's her all around vision. I am so very sorry that you were treated unkind. There's no excuse for that, ever.

On a Facebook page one person was posting how they used coupons for travel size and the coupon stated a regular size. I questioned this person and they bit my head off! Gotta follow the outline of the coupon- thanks for posting this.
juls jewels ugh I saw this happen at dg in Pantene trial size. The coupon worked, and I just couldn’t do it. Instead I walked over to the clearance section and found clearance full size Pantene products and used my coupon.
Yep right on the coupons it actually lets you know what would be fraudulent to do with a coupons it shows or tails its limits what coupons you can use with it and if you can use another coupon with it we have to just stop scanning things and actually read it so that we don't make those mistakes
THESE COMPANIES DONT CARE, WHY IS THIS AN ISSUE, WHO AM I HURTING ? Actually multi billion dollar companies like Proctor & Gamble are pouring thousands into research to minamize coupon fraud. The sad part is, a lot of times it's the cashiers that pays the price by losing their jobs.
Call those "legitimate" insert and coupon cutter services what you want. But, it's a lie... you wouldn't buy an empty insert. You are just buying coupons disguised as a service. Call it what you want to make you feel better, but it is the same thing... fraud. Period.
When I worked at Walmart if a coupon didn't scan or a person had more than five printed coupons we had to bring over a cashier manager (for a while I was the CSS/CSM) and they had to ring everything up, override, etc so that the min wage employee wasn't at fault, but managers only make on average 75 cents to $1 more an hour.
They’re known as “family” products (eg made by the same company- like how she was talking about PG being the victim of a lot of fraud- there’s some way to crack which products it will work on)- there was some lady on extreme couponing that did this and ppl have called her out ... it’s so ridiculous that ppl do this 💩

It amazes me that people fraud stores using coupons. I haven't tree them in years. But when I did if you didn't get the specifically written product size or count you couldn't use said coupon. The cash register and the cashier knows if you bought the correct product/s or not. Why try to scam to save a few bucks? If you are just buying stuff to resell it you deserve to be arrested. Just my opinion
It amazes me that people fraud the stores using coupons but then THEY MAKE VIDEOS to brag on it and teach other people to commit fraud! What a gross thing to do and then to announce to the world that you are basically a thief!

I never even knew coupon fraud was a "thing". I have trouble getting my stores here to take one or two coupons I might be lucky to have. I guess people will always figure out a way to scam others, very sad.

Also think about the cashier too! You put them, especially the newbies that don’t know any better, in a great deal of trouble. I currently work at a grocery chain, and one night...these two older ladies came in, put a bunch of duplicate items on the belt with a handful of coupons to match. I kid you not- HALF of the coupons they gave me DID NOT MATCH the things they had in their cart, but they rang up anyway!!!! And to add insult to injury, they clipped off the part that tells you how much the coupons take off, so the cashier won’t know!! They went to me because I was new and naive at the time, so I was laughing like, “Wow! I wish I could save money like that!” & “Wow! I wish I had your patience!”- but it was a trap sis!! Thank The Most High I didn’t get in trouble, and my managers showed me what to look for from that point on, but my stomach twisted because I was so worried that they got me in trouble. They come in late at night before closing and prey on new cashiers!! I know it’s hard out here, but using playing dirty to save money going to cause more problems than it’s going to fix in the long run! Don’t put somebody’s job in jeopardy because YOU chose to disobey the law
I remember clipping coupons from the newspaper with my grandma when I was very young. She told me to be sure and leave almost all of the dotted line when cutting. She said, otherwise they'll claim it isn't legitimate! That was 40 years ago! So coupon fraud must have always been here. My beloved grandma was one of the best people who ever walked this earth. She wasn't an extreme couponer either. Just saved a few bucks to feed all of the people she fed.
Thank you for having the courage to say things that have needed to be said for a long time. I applaud you and your beautiful outlook on life. All of this couponing is about making our lives easier, not harder, and definitely not illegal.
I guess I'm naive, I never would of thought to try using coupons from other products for what I'm purchasing. And dang, to go online and show people how to fraud the companies is brazingly bold.

I didn't know at first. I was following a group, and went to Walmart. It worked, so I tried the next week coupon deals, and that when I learned it was against the law. I figured if it worked it was ok. Nope. I only use coupons for what it says, now. I'm glad your covering this topic!
Note: Using more coupons than allowed in one transaction is an ETHICAL issue and not usually considered fraud UNLESS the manufacturer has a fraud stipulation outlined in the fine print. For an example, refer to Loreal & Garnier coupons. The manufacturer has outlined "any other use constitutes fraud".
Explain more please . I wanna know if I was to have 2 of the same coupon and it says one per person can I use one today and come back the next day or can I just use both of them? Or can I go to same store but different location to use it on the same day?
I also would would like to add another point as a retail store manager. Coupon fraud could cause the cashier to loose his or her job as well so your not only putting yourself at risk for jail time and fines but also an innocent person and their family.
If I have multiple copies of coupons with restrictions , I just go back the next day and do the deal again. Not worth the risk to try and pass two at the same time.Thank you for keeping it real.❤️
Thank you Erica for making this video! That is the first thing I tell anyone who asks me how to coupon. Its crazy how some of these people are. I had a lady try to get me to back her up as she was yelling at the cashier that she could use as many as she wanted. She saw I had my coupon box and was like "right? right? Tell him how you can use it and that I have no limit" I felt so embarrassed to be a couponer at that moment and said "girl, you know we gotta follow whatever those little letters at the bottom say". She is one of the many reasons why its getting so much harder to coupon now.

Some people just have WAY too much time on their hands to be able to sit down and think of which coupons will work on other items! I have a hard enough time just getting coupons to work on the correct items!! I don't have time for all that other funny business nor am I willing to risk my family, even if I do look good in the color orange! 😂😂 Thanks for all your help Erica!! 😘❤ Oh..and for those who do not know...this is the exact reason that Walmart stopped their price matching of other store ads! I'm a newbie and I feel the same way. I get frustrated and just give up and I'm getting the right products (I think). But literally how do they even come up with I can use a depends coupon on Huggies and it will work? Very sad and people will always find a way to get around the system.
What's crazy, there are apps that will show you what you can use every coupon on! I have never used it, but i have heard about those apps. My mama raised me, you don't lie, cheat, or steal! I am almost 46, and she would still whoop my butt if she caught me doing fraud!

There has to be some kind of "secret group" for lack of better words, that know ahead about what will scan regardless. In any case, if I'm not using store ditagls, and ONLY paper coupons? To keep things running smoothly and not to back up the line, I put the item up then the coupon. I use to make the mistake of having all my items scanned, then use the paper coupons. If something beeped, they had to go all the way through the receipt and dig through the bag to see if it was correct. Talk about holding a line up and being embarrassed!! Like I said, I do this with a transaction that I only use paper coupons. It just makes it soooo much easier for everyone. Hope this helps someone.

I saw that video that you spliced in and it’s absolutely DISGUSTING! We get enough stuff couponing with integrity that there’s no reason to do things that way. And, let me add, you can google coupon information center if you feel adamantly about misuse and they have a place to report it. Some people call it being a coupon cop. There’s a point where you’ll throw that shade aside and report misuse to that degree.

HOW IS ANY OF THIS POSSIBLE? WHY? Unfortunately, where there are numbers, there is room for crime. The same way a criminal will switch license plates on a car, or steal a credit card numbers. Barcodes are sequenced numbers and can be manipulated.
I live in a small town, and I went to my local DG to make a purchase, and I wanted to use a .50 off coupon which I printed from the computer, and the cashier wouldn't take it. He said that a lot of fraudulent coupons were going around, and that he needed to talk to his manager. I told him do you think I would go to jail for a .50 coupon??? I have a family to take care of, and I won't jeopardize that for .50. I was't mad or anything and I just paid for my items and left. A lot of people are making it extremely bad for us good legit couponers.
..and those poor cashiers are just trying to keep their jobs. So they accuse all of us, even the good couponers. It's so unfair to all sides, except the ones causing the problem. Sidenote, I'm sorry for your experience. Its the worst when they make a huge deal about legit coupons.
@@onecutecouponer The good thing about the cashier was he was nice about everything. And he actually showed me a fraudulent coupon. It looked just as if it came from the company itself. It had the silver strip(it looked totally real), but if you would have read the fine print it had misspellings, and the wording was weird. The cashier was like you never can get a 5.00 Dove coupon. I corrected him and said it is possible for the companies to give coupons of that value, but you just have to pay attention very closely.
Yeah, a few bad apples are ruining it for the rest of us. And using them inappropriately, can even make it hard for others to even get the products. I'm a SAHM, and we're about to move out of state to go to school. We will have to be TIGHT with out entire budget, like we're paying our rent a year in advance and we're going to try to prepay our utilities with taxes, we won't be able to make it if I can't stretch that budget with shopping deals and coupons! '
I don’t understand people who do this. As a child not to steal it was a sin. I stole one time as a child and it has been 40 years now and I still feel guilty. faythchik777 IKR! However, I remember once I was at CVS and one of my CRTs wasn’t going through so manager decided to redo transaction. It wasn’t until I left the store that I realized one of my coupons scanned or attached as something totally different like tomato sauce. I was only purchasing personal care items and only handed over like coupons, it was weird. While this was just a system glitch, I wouldn’t knowingly ever try to use a wrong coupon on a product.

Excellent video. I didn’t know people were doing this.. I live in brooklyn NY. and the newspapers are $2.50 each. And sometimes there’s no coupons cuz people steal them. That’s another problem. And I didn’t get the tide pods in my P&G. I didn’t know why. So thanks for the info on that. Thanks 🙏
I just open it to check that they're there and if not I don't buy it. I get mine from the dollar store and sometimes they're a mess and you never know. The first time I got one for coupons there were none even in there so I made sure to check this last time.
@@morgangoodell2840 When I pick up my Sunday papers I grab from close to the bottom of the stack. It's good to check and make sure the coupons are there still, but a paper from the bottom is almost never missing the coupons.
for some reason I don't even get them in my newspaper anymore nor do they come in the mail like proctor & gamble use to. I will definitely go to the post office for help on that matter. Now that I know what our savvy coupon helper has taught me so more good of how to on coupons I will no longer buy a newspaper unless the inserts are included.

When you say some regions don’t get certain coupons then why is it ok to order inserts from fairy isn’t that some sort of coupon fraud? Only because it was a reason why they didn’t release in that region?
On one of the inserts I got I saw that selling coupons is fraud I sent a pic of it to my friend because I knew she bought some (only once) and she was freaking out because it said buying too, which I hadn’t noticed. We’re both new to this so yeah... I just sent her this video so she can watch
I just looked it up and it says it is illegal to buy and sell coupons. I have read articles about coupon fairies getting arrested. They get them from newspaper distribution centers.
GURLLLL PREACH IT!!! About time someone brought this issue up!! I think most people who have been doing this method really don’t care. I moved to a new side of town and went to my local CVS using coupons. The cashier told me no I couldn’t use this 20% off coupon cause my items were on sale. I said okay. I move out of the way to rethink my purchase. The lady behind me was obviously a regular shopper at this store. She brings all her items and coupons, register kept declining the coupons and the cashier was overriding it. I was upset because I really needed my items but was short of funds. All to find out this lady is a reseller!! She and the cashier were doing the exact same thing you just mentioned. Using the coupon on other items that the Coupon did not state. This lady walked out with a basket full of items, I mean FULL! For less than 5$. Pantene shampoo, toothpastes, Tide, Gain, Charmin toilet paper and makeup.
My friend showed me entire Facebook groups for basically couponing fraud. They update each other about what coupons are wrongfully working for trial sizes and making things free. It looked cool but when I did it, many times I got caught by the cashier and realized it was not worth it. I have been doing couponing the right way now and I am better off and still saving.

As a cashier, I always make sure to look at the coupons first. I have had several people try to use coupons that weren't for the items they were buying. And always pissed them off when I would tell them no. Some companies are also aware of glitches, and have their cashiers adjust the prices at the register. Please don't yell at cashiers for denying your coupons or adjusting glitches.

I used to extreme coupon shop about 11 years ago but because of greed and fraud- stores, and advertisers reconfigured the whole couponing game and people like me who did the right thing had to suffer! I so appreciate this topic and you addressing. I NEED coupons because groceries are getting more expensive! Coupon responsibly to make it great for everyone!!!!
I just happened to find you today....I thought I was the only one with coupon values!! I have been couponing for many year...I follow the rules and I do them for my family and I help others in need! I don't help by selling to them, but I give to them!! I even share with consumers in the stores, if there's only 2, let them have 1 or give them a coupon....even helping them!!! That's the real beauty of all this for me!!!
I worked at Walgreens and our system would just accept anything, once a customer got away with $50 of goods for free in fake coupons because cashiers trust the computer system and they didn’t teach us how to check coupons.
Preach! That annoys me more than anything. Glittering/ “stealing”and boasting about. All levels from taking peelies off of product to using the wrong coupon. WRONG! I’m actually surprised that the glittering groups aren’t shut down!

Érica you definitely need to make more videos like this helping dumbass people like me learn the ropes and how not to get caught up in the mix following fraudulent couponers.

It’s enough that we get harassed for using legal coupons sometimes.
I work for Walmart and if something is $3 and the coupons says $4 off that’s a big no no. We can’t do that cuz that’s sketchy. The product has to be greater than the coupon of what it says. That’s another thing

I've seen that first hand...Accused someone of fraud, said she can go to jail...Wasn't even the cashier, hadn't looked @ coupon...She said these are legit from coupon site, let's it go w/ no fuss, other cashier was still going in...She said I don't have a problem why are you still arguing...She told me she has no problem @ any other DG stores...Gave me a tip on continuing also...I was like REALLY!..
@@kaitlyndeyette9951 In my experience, most stores have it set to only allow up to the amount of the product. I have used $1 coupons on $0.99 items (due to sales) and my receipt shows $0.99 off with no overage.
This is why cashiers are skeptical sometimes, we don't want to get fired. Checking with a superior is not harrassment
So when y'all use a coupon and it doesn't work please don't threaten the cashier. They are just scanning stuff. They really don't have amy control. The computer does it all. Calling corporate on someone who makes 7.25 an hour is just viscous.

As a couponer who could go through 40 coupons at a time I made sure everything was legal and I appreciate all the work you cashiers do to help, with honest ones, even when you're faced with all that fraud on a daily basis. Thank you!
@@leashantachism8859 Because fraud is illegal. I work at a law firm and we've had people use that excuse when trying to use fake paperwork for a class-action medical lawsuit. It's hurting the company who issues the coupons, it's hurting the store because the company isn't going to payout misused coupons, it's hurting the cashiers who get fired for those frauds (I worked at Walmart when I put myself through college and that happened all the time), and it's hurting the people who are also trying to help their families are affected by changes made to rules because of frauding people. It hurst a lot of people, and if you get caught and arrest or at the very least sued for fraud, it'll be hurting you and possibly your family.
Being a manager in retail and having to deal with this issue almost daily, I appreciate you touching on this. Thank You!

They go to self checkout to avoid having the coupons read, because it doesn't beep. They use an app called Qseer that tells them what coupon can be used on another item than specified. It's crazy.

At my Walmart just last night I had coupons that I’d pulled off the items in the store, and they weren’t scanning at checkout, the cashier actually told me that mngmnt told them they can’t take them(the directly on the product peeled off coupons)if they don’t scan, that there’s nothing she can do. She shrugged her shoulders and told me my total and asked me how I wanted to pay. I didn’t like her attitude but money is money and when you have very little, every cent counts. 15$ may not seem like much to her but that’s gas for my car, I told her I’ve never had this issue, they usually just input the amount and take it off my total, she just repeated mngmnt said she had to deny all coupons that don’t scan, so I asked for the manager. The manager came over and had to tell her that if coupons are removed from the items in the store, then they’re valid regardless. The manager then asked her if she’d been voiding coupons that were taken off products in the store bc they didn’t scan....it was apparent that when training or even when mngmnt is going over coupons w the employees they’re not explaining it correctly or they’re going over it in a way that the employees don’t understand. If you’re unsure or even if you are sure, always ask to talk to a manager so they can correct the issue or tell you directly from the horses mouth the coupon policy. So many are afraid of confrontation or causing a potential scene, don’t be and don’t worry bc it’s your money and you need to understand why this happened, to fix it on your end or for them to fix it on there end.
I honestly would rather pay full price for an item than commit fraud. I got to much weighing on my sholders for that!

When I first started they had maybe a hundred of coupons available to print....right now they only have 31🥺....and now stores are changing their policies....we have a store here in Hawaii that no longer allow printable coupons. YES. When I was at CVS they had just changed the coupon policy. This one woman wanted me to key in her expired and duplicate coupons. I politely told her no. She starts making a scene. Saying that she drove over 30 miles to get here, and this isn't her normal store but she was in town because she just got out of the hospital. Then she tells me how she knows the SM, Barb, so she will get me in trouble. And I told her Barb should be in tomorrow. And she can call or come in. She left, upset. The kicker is, all Store Managers first and last names are posted outside, for the world to see. Of COURSE you know her name.

I have to be honest with you Erica, I am still in the FB group, but for a bit chose to limit my interaction bc I noticed a lot of ppl trying to pull a fast one, misusing coupons, and being rude, esp when called out. Some things were newbie accidents of course. I know you and the moderators were warning and cleaning house towards Dec/Jan. For that, I applaud you. Any of us little ppl calling those out who were blatantly abusing coupons/stores were called names, considered jealous, etc. With that said, I have noticed less of that hostilty in the group and I think you guys are doing a great job weeding out the bad apples. Thank you for being an honest couponer and making a PSA such as this that coupon fraud is not okay on ANY level.

@@joyce9857 I very much agree with your statement as I had once been new and had to learn things through trial and error as well. Many mistakes. I guess I should have clarified that there was a lot of hostility towards ppl who were kindly pointing it out, but yes, there are even some "holier than thou" types that seem to crucify those making honest mistakes. In the past, there were a lot who were just being nasty in the group when a lot of seasoned couponers (and some of Erica's mods) were trying to kindly teach. Nasty- that's not what Erica or OCC is about. I was just glad to see her and her team able to solve a lot of that within the group. It needs to be a positive place to share, to learn, and be taught- I think that's her all around vision. I am so very sorry that you were treated unkind. There's no excuse for that, ever.

On a Facebook page one person was posting how they used coupons for travel size and the coupon stated a regular size. I questioned this person and they bit my head off! Gotta follow the outline of the coupon- thanks for posting this.
juls jewels ugh I saw this happen at dg in Pantene trial size. The coupon worked, and I just couldn’t do it. Instead I walked over to the clearance section and found clearance full size Pantene products and used my coupon.

Actually multi billion dollar companies like Proctor & Gamble are pouring thousands into research to minamize coupon fraud. The sad part is, a lot of times it's the cashiers that pays the price by losing their jobs.

Yes, a whole lot of Food Lion cashiers have been fired for accepting in accurate coupons.
Call those "legitimate" insert and coupon cutter services what you want. But, it's a lie... you wouldn't buy an empty insert. You are just buying coupons disguised as a service. Call it what you want to make you feel better, but it is the same thing... fraud. Period.
Also, companies might decide to completely do away with coupons because of fraud, and that would affect a lot of family's bottom lines!
When I worked at Walmart if a coupon didn't scan or a person had more than five printed coupons we had to bring over a cashier manager (for a while I was the CSS/CSM) and they had to ring everything up, override, etc so that the min wage employee wasn't at fault, but managers only make on average 75 cents to $1 more an hour.

They’re known as “family” products (eg made by the same company- like how she was talking about PG being the victim of a lot of fraud- there’s some way to crack which products it will work on)- there was some lady on extreme couponing that did this and ppl have called her out ... it’s so ridiculous that ppl do this 💩

It amazes me that people fraud stores using coupons. I haven't tree them in years. But when I did if you didn't get the specifically written product size or count you couldn't use said coupon. The cash register and the cashier knows if you bought the correct product/s or not. Why try to scam to save a few bucks?

I currently work at a grocery chain, and one night...these two older ladies came in, put a bunch of duplicate items on the belt with a handful of coupons to match. I kid you not- HALF of the coupons they gave me DID NOT MATCH the things they had in their cart, but they rang up anyway!!!!
And to add insult to injury, they clipped off the part that tells you how much the coupons take off, so the cashier won’t know!! They went to me because I was new and naive at the time, so I was laughing like, “Wow! I wish I could save money like that!” & “Wow! I wish I had your patience!”- but it was a trap sis!!
Thank The Most High I didn’t get in trouble, and my managers showed me what to look for from that point on, but my stomach twisted because I was so worried that they got me in trouble. They come in late at night before closing and prey on new cashiers!!
I know it’s hard out here, but using playing dirty to save money going to cause more problems than it’s going to fix in the long run! Don’t put somebody’s job in jeopardy because YOU chose to disobey the law
I remember clipping coupons from the newspaper with my grandma when I was very young. She told me to be sure and leave almost all of the dotted line when cutting. She said, otherwise they'll claim it isn't legitimate! That was 40 years ago! So coupon fraud must have always been here. My beloved grandma was one of the best people who ever walked this earth. She wasn't an extreme couponer either. Just saved a few bucks to feed all of the people she fed.

I didn't know at first. I was following a group, and went to Walmart. It worked, so I tried the next week coupon deals, and that when I learned it was against the law. I figured if it worked it was ok. Nope. I only use coupons for what it says, now. I'm glad your covering this topic!
Note: Using more coupons than allowed in one transaction is an ETHICAL issue and not usually considered fraud UNLESS the manufacturer has a fraud stipulation outlined in the fine print. For an example, refer to Loreal & Garnier coupons. The manufacturer has outlined "any other use constitutes fraud".
Explain more please . I wanna know if I was to have 2 of the same coupon and it says one per person can I use one today and come back the next day or can I just use both of them? Or can I go to same store but different location to use it on the same day?

I also would would like to add another point as a retail store manager. Coupon fraud could cause the cashier to loose his or her job as well so your not only putting yourself at risk for jail time and fines but also an innocent person and their family.

Thank you Erica for making this video! That is the first thing I tell anyone who asks me how to coupon. Its crazy how some of these people are. I had a lady try to get me to back her up as she was yelling at the cashier that she could use as many as she wanted. She saw I had my coupon box and was like "right? right? Tell him how you can use it and that I have no limit" I felt so embarrassed to be a couponer at that moment and said "girl, you know we gotta follow whatever those little letters at the bottom say". She is one of the many reasons why its getting so much harder to coupon now.

I have a hard enough time just getting coupons to work on the correct items!! What's crazy, there are apps that will show you what you can use every coupon on! I have never used it, but i have heard about those apps. My mama raised me, you don't lie, cheat, or steal! I am almost 46, and she would still whoop my butt if she caught me doing fraud!

There has to be some kind of "secret group" for lack of better words, that know ahead about what will scan regardless. In any case, if I'm not using store ditagls, and ONLY paper coupons? To keep things running smoothly and not to back up the line, I put the item up then the coupon. I use to make the mistake of having all my items scanned, then use the paper coupons. If something beeped, they had to go all the way through the receipt and dig through the bag to see if it was correct. Talk about holding a line up and being embarrassed!! Like I said, I do this with a transaction that I only use paper coupons. It just makes it soooo much easier for everyone. Hope this helps someone.

I saw that video that you spliced in and it’s absolutely DISGUSTING! We get enough stuff couponing with integrity that there’s no reason to do things that way.
And, let me add, you can google coupon information center if you feel adamantly about misuse and they have a place to report it. Some people call it being a coupon cop. There’s a point where you’ll throw that shade aside and report misuse to that degree.

Unfortunately, where there are numbers, there is room for crime. The same way a criminal will switch license plates on a car, or steal a credit card numbers. Barcodes are sequenced numbers and can be manipulated.

He said that a lot of fraudulent coupons were going around, and that he needed to talk to his manager. I told him do you think I would go to jail for a .50 coupon??? I have a family to take care of, and I won't jeopardize that for .50. I was't mad or anything and I just paid for my items and left. A lot of people are making it extremely bad for us good legit couponers.
..and those poor cashiers are just trying to keep their jobs. So they accuse all of us, even the good couponers. It's so unfair to all sides, except the ones causing the problem. Sidenote, I'm sorry for your experience. Its the worst when they make a huge deal about legit coupons.
@@onecutecouponer The good thing about the cashier was he was nice about everything. And he actually showed me a fraudulent coupon. It looked just as if it came from the company itself. It had the silver strip(it looked totally real), but if you would have read the fine print it had misspellings, and the wording was weird. The cashier was like you never can get a 5.00 Dove coupon. I corrected him and said it is possible for the companies to give coupons of that value, but you just have to pay attention very closely.
Yeah, a few bad apples are ruining it for the rest of us. And using them inappropriately, can even make it hard for others to even get the products. I'm a SAHM, and we're about to move out of state to go to school. We will have to be TIGHT with out entire budget, like we're paying our rent a year in advance and we're going to try to prepay our utilities with taxes, we won't be able to make it if I can't stretch that budget with shopping deals and coupons!

I don’t understand people who do this. As a child not to steal it was a sin. I stole one time as a child and it has been 40 years now and I still feel guilty. I always wondered how people could buy $200 of groceries and pay $20. Thanks to you I see how they are doing it. Thank you for the information.

I guess I’m naive, as I assumed a coupon is good for the product it was intended for. I’ve never even heard of a coupon being able to be used on a completely different product than what it was written for. Just crazy. Any way to make a dishonest buck, I guess. 😳 TFS and keeping it real! 💛

faythchik777 IKR! However, I remember once I was at CVS and one of my CRTs wasn’t going through so manager decided to redo transaction. It wasn’t until I left the store that I realized one of my coupons scanned or attached as something totally different like tomato sauce. I was only purchasing personal care items and only handed over like coupons, it was weird. While this was just a system glitch, I wouldn’t knowingly ever try to use a wrong coupon on a product.

Excellent video. I didn’t know people were doing this.. I live in brooklyn NY. and the newspapers are $2.50 each. And sometimes there’s no coupons cuz people steal them. That’s another problem. And I didn’t get the tide pods in my P&G. I didn’t know why. So thanks for the info on that. Thanks 🙏

I just open it to check that they're there and if not I don't buy it. I get mine from the dollar store and sometimes they're a mess and you never know. The first time I got one for coupons there were none even in there so I made sure to check this last time.
@@morgangoodell2840 When I pick up my Sunday papers I grab from close to the bottom of the stack. It's good to check and make sure the coupons are there still, but a paper from the bottom is almost never missing the coupons.
for some reason I don't even get them in my newspaper anymore nor do they come in the mail like proctor & gamble use to. I will definitely go to the post office for help on that matter. Now that I know what our savvy coupon helper has taught me so more good of how to on coupons I will no longer buy a newspaper unless the inserts are included.

When you say some regions don’t get certain coupons then why is it ok to order inserts from fairy isn’t that some sort of coupon fraud? Only because it was a reason why they didn’t release in that region?

On one of the inserts I got I saw that selling coupons is fraud I sent a pic of it to my friend because I knew she bought some (only once) and she was freaking out because it said buying too, which I hadn’t noticed. We’re both new to this so yeah... I just sent her this video so she can watch
I just looked it up and it says it is illegal to buy and sell coupons. I have read articles about coupon fairies getting arrested. They get them from newspaper distribution centers.

I think most people who have been doing this method really don’t care.
I moved to a new side of town and went to my local CVS using coupons. The cashier told me no I couldn’t use this 20% off coupon cause my items were on sale.
I said okay. I move out of the way to rethink my purchase. The lady behind me was obviously a regular shopper at this store. She brings all her items and coupons, register kept declining the coupons and the cashier was overriding it. I was upset because I really needed my items but was short of funds.
All to find out this lady is a reseller!! She and the cashier were doing the exact same thing you just mentioned. Using the coupon on other items that the Coupon did not state. This lady walked out with a basket full of items, I mean FULL! For less than 5$.
Pantene shampoo, toothpastes, Tide, Gain, Charmin toilet paper and makeup.
My friend showed me entire Facebook groups for basically couponing fraud. They update each other about what coupons are wrongfully working for trial sizes and making things free. It looked cool but when I did it, many times I got caught by the cashier and realized it was not worth it. I have been doing couponing the right way now and I am better off and still saving.

As a cashier, I always make sure to look at the coupons first. I have had several people try to use coupons that weren't for the items they were buying. And always pissed them off when I would tell them no. Some companies are also aware of glitches, and have their cashiers adjust the prices at the register. Please don't yell at cashiers for denying your coupons or adjusting glitches.

Thank you so much for being candid about a very serious yet idiotic issue!! I used to extreme coupon shop about 11 years ago but because of greed and fraud- stores, and advertisers reconfigured the whole couponing game and people like me who did the right thing had to suffer! I so appreciate this topic and you addressing.

I just happened to find you today....I thought I was the only one with coupon values!! I have been couponing for many year...I follow the rules and I do them for my family and I help others in need! I don't help by selling to them, but I give to them!! I even share with consumers in the stores, if there's only 2, let them have 1 or give them a coupon....even helping them!!! That's the real beauty of all this for me!!!

I worked at Walgreens and our system would just accept anything, once a customer got away with $50 of goods for free in fake coupons because cashiers trust the computer system and they didn’t teach us how to check coupons.

Preach! That annoys me more than anything. Glittering/ “stealing”and boasting about. All levels from taking peelies off of product to using the wrong coupon. WRONG! I’m actually surprised that the glittering groups aren’t shut down!
I'm glad I didn't run into those couponers when I was beginner because I wouldn't have known what was right from wrong thanks for teaching us.
I feel like an absolute dumbass. I had been following TinkTV not knowing that she was committing coupon fraud constantly while shopping at Target. We see a lot of coupon fraud from those that print from the Catalina. I’ve seen them from a Target and Walgreens that is faked.
