my boss must be a different breed of a DG manager. 😂 we never throw out penny items. Either the employees get their share or we let the customers buy it anyway. usually both.
The dollar General I worked at if anything clothing, accessories, jewelry, or toys would get pennied out, a black marker on the barcode and put in a box for donations to our local church

Went to 2 different stores today; was @ my local 1 @ 9 a m. Nothing @ either one! Last week was better but didn't get not 1 pr. Of socks! 😆 Got $151.50 worth of clothing for .19 cents! I'd say not bad for a first timer, huh?
I went penny shopping for the 1st time today & that happened with me when the employee was checking me out and saw that the benadryl was ringing up for a penny she told the manager & the manager just looked at her and told her ok thats fine then asked me where I found the benedryl at because she was looking for them I told her & I know she probably went to go look for more but I grabbed them all.
Actually they have to remove them from the shelf. They end up floaters and its already out of the system for inventory. I was a manager for a discount dollar store before 😉
I got 3 penny items today. Hair dye, wylers and balloons. The cashier was really mean though and said she hates penny shoppers because they void items and make messes and that the cashiers can't get penny items. She was mean, but oh well I got em! 😎

I had an employee be really hostile with me and another one a a different store today. The one today saw what I was doing and said I don’t have any of that and I said it never hurts to check and I found 7 cans of country time sweet tea...she was not happy. I don’t get why they get so butt-hurt over it, especially if they’re going to throw it away!

Hiya, Beautiful! I just found your videos. After watching this one, I really had to speak up about your shopping ethics. They basically boil down to: stores are selling things to make a profit, you're there to buy items at the lowest cost possible; you work WITH the system, it's not US against THEM; saving money without doing things that are unethical/amoral: trashing stores, hiding items to buy at discount later, etc. This one's not ethics/morals, but it speaks to peoples overall mental & emotional happiness: trying to find good deals to get awesome savings, vs. if you can't find the deals you're looking for, you take it personally & get upset. All of this meshes perfectly with MY ethics about shopping & saving money. It's refreshing to hear someone else publicly speak of these things. I also want to say that your objective for making these videos is also refreshing & I respect you even more. You make these videos to help other shoppers save money & get excited about shopping. I'm disabled with a very low fixed income ($270 after rent & utilities). Another UA-camr (Thrifty Farmmamma) inspired me with her video on how she makes money selling on eBay. This feels like a very good fit for me to make money, so imagine my delight upon finding YOUR videos. Between you & Super Unsexy (another UA-camr who's videos are made to help others save money, as well as being funny & supportive), I'm beginning to feel that the eBay idea is more & more the way to go. Thanks Erica! I’ve been with you for about a year! I’ve been learning penny shopping from other youtubers and always wondered why you didn’t penny shop! I’m really happy that you brought up that last point. I work for another retailer in NY and our AP had noticed this woman stashing things behind our mirrors and because she was concealing the items to come back to at a later date she was detained and arrested. I applaud you for pointing out that if we want to have these deals and brick and mortar stores to still be here in the future that we need to be considerate and educated about policy and our rights! Keep on doing you girl!
I went to Dollar General this past Saturday because they had a huge 50% (or more on some items) sale for 3 days. I did find penny items ( the cashier was as happy as I was LOL , she said " yay!!!! These are going to be a penny for you, good job!") I'd kept my eye on at the store closest to me. Well, while I was waiting for them to be discounted, they were gone when I went back. So Saturday, when I hit up a different DG, not only did I find some amazing deals, (a vivitar Bluetooth "pill" or box for like $4) I also found some penny items and as an extra, it was the items that I had my eye on at the store closest to me! I was so excited! Another thing on the penny items, I spoke with a SUPER nice manager about penny items. She was very honest, told me when and what would be available. It was her opinion ( after I mentioned that another video on UA-cam had a "Master List" ) that the penny list was coming from someone on a corporate level at times. In my store specifically, she says that a lot of times they (this specific store) don't get a list of items to remove prior to them being priced at a penny. She was SO nice about it! She even said she tries very hard to not throw anything away because she thinks that policy is ridiculous and even if it's super cheap or a penny, she'd rather sale it! I found/made a friend at my local store AND she's the store manager!!! She helped me out a LOT on tips! Sorry for the long comment but I thought it was a double win!!! Thanks for what you do to help us save money!!!! ❤

Just saw this video for the first time and glad I did. Very informative video. I learn a lot. Thanks for the lesson. I will keep looking at it until I get the hang of it and my lines down pat...lol. All I can say is that this was an awesome video and you did a great job of explaining. Your video is never boring. Enjoyed how you acted out the transaction and the things you say have me laughing. You are good at what you do.
FYI, I perform inventory for DGs and we often remove penny items from the shelves when we perform inventory. If the store mentions they are going to perform inventory, shop for penny items right before they perform inventory because the store often takes everything from the back and puts them in the floor to be counted. You will definitely find a lot of penny items if you are willing to deal with the over crowded aisles. DGs usually puts up signs or announces when they are about to perform inventory. Every DG store performs inventory at least once a year, sometimes more than once a year. I liked your video and wanted to give you more info to add if you are interested.
@@thebritfix actually, you would because they don't make an effort to remove product from the shelves because they anticipate the inventory doing it for them.
@@thebritfix I'm not trying to be confusing. Let me clarify. When the store says they're going to have inventory, I mean they put a sign in the door saying excuse the mess because we're doing inventory. People still shop but the store goes into the back and takes all their product that they have piled up in their storage areas and brings it out to the floor. When they do that there are a lot of Penny items. It is the job for the inventory team to go through all of their products that they're selling and pull the penny items as we are counting. So the store, in the week or two leading up to their inventory time, does not bother pulling Penny items off their shelves because they know that we're going to do it, meaning the inventory team. That is all I was saying

I think those of us that dont find deals often is because we dont have the right resources. A car for one lol I'm a stay at home mom and I dont drive so I cant get there when its critical. But there is instances where my husband is home at the time I hear about sales and that's when I score. Thank you!!!!!
@@elizabethkass49 I have found items at Walmart for a steal. If my husband is home I either ask him or walk my butt but Walmart I go to more. I hear Walmart does clearance markdowns the first few days of the month.
I should try that too. I have the walmart app so I can scan. But I also like Ericka's idea about the buddy system. So, I might bring my boyfriend along to dollar General and try it that way.
Dollar general should donate their items to a food bank or a thrift store for the homeless or a school especially the books. Any store that pollutes Mother Earth should be avoided at all cost.

I made the mistake a few weeks ago asking an employee where they keep the penny items at? The response I got was, " oh, we don't have that at some of these stores, that's mostly the inner city stores, aka the hood." And I was like ohh Ok, but puzzled bcuz she said, "aka the hood ". I was like B!/@& I'm from the hood, whatcha trying to say?
Michael's used to have penny items but corporate finally realized people were catching too many of them so now they go into grab bags after it goes to 90% off because after that it doesn't go to penny anymore it just stops existing in the system.

C a t sometimes they are sometimes they will cut it , spray paint it or it’s broken. Sometimes you get lucky and there isn’t anything wrong with the items!

Wow, I'm always amazed at how detailed am explanation you provide including the legal ramifications. I can see where penny shopping would be exciting but am not sure I'd want to drive that far, store is not near me, yo potentially finding a penny item. And yes, another YT mentioned that a new employee would not sell her the penny items she had in her cart.
i know my sister used to keep some thing from her old retail job i can't say the store. my brother in law friend use to work at cvs after every holiday season if they don't sale everything they have to burn or throw it out
I 100% agree when u said "leave penny items for other penny shoppers" I'm pretty sure employees sell u the 20 items for a penny and after u leave they go pull those items off the shelf lol 😆

All I can say is that this was an awesome video and you did a great job of explaining. Your video is never boring. Enjoyed how you acted out the transaction and the things you say have me laughing. You are good at what you do.
FYI, I perform inventory for DGs and we often remove penny items from the shelves when we perform inventory. If the store mentions they are going to perform inventory, shop for penny items right before they perform inventory because the store often takes everything from the back and puts them in the floor to be counted. You will definitely find a lot of penny items if you are willing to deal with the over crowded aisles. DGs usually puts up signs or announces when they are about to perform inventory. Every DG store performs inventory at least once a year, sometimes more than once a year. I liked your video and wanted to give you more info to add if you are interested.

@@thebritfix actually, you would because they don't make an effort to remove product from the shelves because they anticipate the inventory doing it for them.

@@thebritfix I'm not trying to be confusing. Let me clarify. When the store says they're going to have inventory, I mean they put a sign in the door saying excuse the mess because we're doing inventory. People still shop but the store goes into the back and takes all their product that they have piled up in their storage areas and brings it out to the floor. When they do that there are a lot of Penny items. It is the job for the inventory team to go through all of their products that they're selling and pull the penny items as we are counting. So the store, in the week or two leading up to their inventory time, does not bother pulling Penny items off their shelves because they know that we're going to do it, meaning the inventory team. That is all I was saying

I think those of us that dont find deals often is because we dont have the right resources. A car for one lol I'm a stay at home mom and I dont drive so I cant get there when its critical. But there is instances where my husband is home at the time I hear about sales and that's when I score. Thank you!!!!!

@@elizabethkass49 I have found items at Walmart for a steal. If my husband is home I either ask him or walk my butt but Walmart I go to more. I hear Walmart does clearance markdowns the first few days of the month.
I should try that too. I have the walmart app so I can scan. But I also like Ericka's idea about the buddy system. So, I might bring my boyfriend along to dollar General and try it that way.

The response I got was, " oh, we don't have that at some of these stores, that's mostly the inner city stores, aka the hood." And I was like ohh Ok, but puzzled bcuz she said, "aka the hood ". I was like B!/@& I'm from the hood, whatcha trying to say?

Michael's used to have penny items but corporate finally realized people were catching too many of them so now they go into grab bags after it goes to 90% off because after that it doesn't go to penny anymore it just stops existing in the system.

Had my first haul on Friday. 99.00 worth for .56. Bummed when I couldn’t find any today.
I actually watch some people on UA-cam who actually dumpster dive for those things that get thrown away.
Are the items destroyed usually?
C a t sometimes they are sometimes they will cut it , spray paint it or it’s broken. Sometimes you get lucky and there isn’t anything wrong with the items!
I personally do, most of the food items are not destroyed but many stores will slit the bags or containers

i know my sister used to keep some thing from her old retail job i can't say the store. my brother in law friend use to work at cvs after every holiday season if they don't sale everything they have to burn or throw it out
Always carry the Dollar General Penny Policy with you. It works I take it all the time. I keep it in my phone
