I've killed chicken, goats, and fish for "food." I grew up with gang violence and abusive/neglectful parents. After high school, I joined the U.S. Marines. (I've also had to kill humans) After leaving the U.S. Marines I started questioning many things. (Dark times post multiple deployments, finally properly processing my childhood trauma and then my experiences in war) After much reflection, I eventually went vegan in 2018. I concluded that I've been through and have caused enough suffering in my life. I used to say I could never go vegan because I wasn't willing to change. If I can do it. Anyone can!

I don't know if there are proportionately more tattooed people who are vegan (or vice versa). But I wouldn't be surprised that if someone is confident enough to emancipate themselves from the social norms of animal abuse that they'd also be confident enough to do away with the convention of shying away from body modification/tattoos. I guess the answer, if what you hypothesise is true, might be that those who do eat meat or are averse to decorating themselves are potentially more susceptible to peer pressure and abiding by social norms.
