There is a few people that seem to somehow either get B12 from a source which is unknown... or that their bodies microbiome some how makes B12 for them. There is cases of vegans being vegan for over 40 years, and they don't take B12 supplements, par if it's added to food. And so this seems to indicate some people make their own B12 somehow. However there is also cases of vegans not taking B12 and getting seriously ill with mental problems, and even dying as a result. So it is important for most vegans to play it safe and supplement B12, even if there is a chance they make their own B12, I don't think risking mental health issues is worth the gamble. So I think all vegans should encourage B12 supplementation to be safe.✌

My 92 yr old mother has gone on an all meat diet😱😱😱. This is the person I’m so thankful to for raising us on lots of garden veggies and whole foods in the 60’s, which I think gave me a really good start in life that has really paid off. Dang. She has listened to UA-cam ‘researchers’ and is convinced that veggies have 27 toxicins in them or something. I’m shocked. But she has lost a lot of weight that she needed to loose. And at this point in her life if she believes in it then she has the right to try it. I’ll be visiting in a few weeks. Oh YES definitely get the sign of I HAVE A WHOLE VIDEO ON THIS . Use it often . Great vid 🤩 I knew we'd find B12 in plants - not just mushrooms ? Nutritional Yeast ? ?
A whole food plant based diet and a ruminant carnivore diet both are good for ones health. I have tried both for months at a time, but as a middle aged man, it was only after being on the carnivore diet that I personally experienced (2-4 weeks into the diet) waking every morning with an erection like I did back when I was in my teens and twenties. I'm a lap swimmer, and had no problem swimming a mile nonstop on both diets. For health and well being regardless of diet, the important thing is to exclude all processed foods, all seed oils, most sugars. Many of the plants we consider food today did not exist 100 to 200 years ago in the form found today. They have been modified via selective growing techniques and/ or geneticaly modified techniques. As a result fruits are more sugary, and many individual vegetables were developed/designed from one or two types of vegetable ancestors. Lastly, if you love your animals, feed them natural foods too; not processed foods. That means feeding your cats a diet that includes raw meat or if cooked meat, but not boiled.
I always call myself a plant based vegan. Health is as important as animal welfare. You need to set an example for overs to follow. Congratulations on getting the degree
A vegan diet will lead to deficiency unless we can buy the rare plants mentioned in this video. I live in a city of 150000. Not one shop sells them. The success of a vegan will depend on long-term conscientiousness and her/his income.
Thanks for the video Nic. I'll admit I haven't actually looked myself yet, but can you or anyone post a link to the study about bioavailable B12 in duckweed please? I knew there was B12 in duckweed but didn't realise any research had been done to prove whether it is bioavailable or not - the last article I read on the subject suggested that the research hadn't been done or was in it's early stages, so really interesting.
I would add that a vegan diet does not necessarily correlate to good health. If you are not eating meat - great - but don't expect to be healthier by eating non meat products such as bags of chips, French fries, non dairy chocolate bars, processed vegan foods, etc. Though these are foods not containing meat, they are also very hazardous to ones health. I would also add that strong bone is not the sole result of eating calcium rich food. You can eat all the calcium you want, but if you are not engaging in some form of stress related bone activity, your bones will continue to weaken. Use it or lose it is the phase that comes to mind. If the body discovers that it doesn't need to expend resources on growing bone strength, it doesn't - it simply doesn't waste it's time. To build stronger bones one needs basically two things: bone stress and proper nutrition to support bone growth. Take one or the other way and you take away bone health. Just my two cents... Peace and love always.
Can you share why you stopped being vegan??? I'm not a troll/militant I'm on the path to being vegan and I'd like to know if there's things/mistakes that I can prepare for beforehand so I don't go back to eating APs.
@@witty_kitty when I first went vegan I struggled and only lasted 9 months. I wasn't eating enough calories. I went back to pescatarian for a few months but hated it because I knew what was happening to fish. So, I researched everything I could at the time. Recipes, how to eat at restaurants, and found vegan groups on Facebook. This helped me a lot because I wasn't so alone and I learned a lot from the others. It also got me into activism which only solidified my stance on ethics. Seriously, you have it so easy these days. The information, products, and larger community didn't exist when I first went vegan. Where there is a will, there is a way.
Love your videos.I love your research style and presentation. Congratulations on finishing your degree. I’m sure you contributed so much to the program for everybody.
It is fantastic how much depth you are able to go into on this! I'm considering going vegan again after 14 years as just a vegetarian and I can't believe how much more there is to know now, the science was in such early stages then. Everyone thought I was crazy and sacrificing my health for 'the animals'
Most of cow's milk is actually not that rich in calcium. In our country they actually add calcium to the milk. So why not just drink plant based milk that has also added calcium and other nutrients
Hi Mic! I haven't looked through all your videos yet but have you ever done one about vegan/vegetarian diets and developing Hypochlorhydria? I developed that condition after being a vegetarian/vegan for over 20 years of my life and had no choice but to start eating meat to deal with the side effects that almost killed me. Didn't know if you knew of it or other ways to treat it. Thanks!
I went vegan and had 3 strokes, broke 14 bones, had a heart attack, got MS and Lou Gherig's disease, was diagnosed with Parkinson's, had an aneurism, and my teeth fell out. Other than that, I'm in great health.
When people talk to me about protein deficiency, I always ask them if they've heard of kwashiorkor. They stare at me, confused. Exactly. Protein deficiency is not a problem in the Western world.
Congratulations on your MPH. I just came back from my fiancé’s graduation he received his DHSC and I was so moved by all the people graduating in to careers thats are so beneficial to society
Also Isotope studies show early humans at large amounts of nuts and aquatic protein and less land-animal protein than usually claimed. Instead of "hunter-gatherer" we should've been called "fisher-gatherer". Sorry red-pill carnivore bro's.
The 8.7 million species of animals have a 100% success rate with their species diet as long as they had access to the food and no accidents happened. If a vegan diet does not have a 100% success rate with simple intuition based on evolution, then someone is trying to outsmart nature which will have a 100% failure rate.
When it comes to science, there is no debate and there is no "balance". Data is the only thing that matters. The scientific data behind whole food plant based diets has been extensive and rock solid for DECADES. There is nothing to debate
My canines are so insignificant, that they look like other teeth, like they are in no way pointy. 😂 I personally never saw "big" canines on a person, sometimes they at best are a little pointy and it looks like dracula teeth, especially when we were kids we were so interested in those things, never saw big canines, don't know why ppl use it as an argument at all 😅
2:41 can anyone recognise what's on the plate? I can see olives, tomatoes, broccoli, beans, a yellow pepper, a rice puff cracker, what's the stringy stuff next to the olives and what's the large yellow portion on the bottom with leaves on top of it? I really love the idea of a more plant based diet but its soooo hard to do that in a third world country like the Philippines where you're slapped in the face with pork or chicken everywhere you go, unless you find that exceptionally rare restaurant with overpriced tiny portions of vegan food,
@ryanhulme3303 You might call it that but you'd be wrong. Any medical professional will tell you that a vegan diet is suitable for humans at any stage of life unless they deny the science.
@ryanhulme3303 Just to clarify, veganism is a moral philosophy not a diet. Vegans eat a plants-only diet sourced without harming or exploiting animals. That's the whole and sole purpose of veganism, to avoid harming and exploiting animals. Nothing more, nothing less. Those very sources you cite state quite clearly that a well planned "vegan diet" is NOT an unhealthy diet and can even provide benefits that other diets cannot. Dig deeper and you'll find the facts. I often use the NHS's statement to back up my claims. I tried linking the NHS page but UA-cam doesn't like legitimate links so you'll have to look it up yourself. Just search NHS vegan statement and you'll see it. As for supplements, vegans generally only need one: B12, and that's easily sourced by tablets, injections or fortified foods. Also, if you think supplements are a bad thing, you might want to research all the supplements that go into standard animal meat products in the animal Ag industry including B12. I think you'll be surprised at what the industry has to do to make their "products" legal to sell. Enjoy your research. May it make you a better person!
Congrats on getting your Masters Mic! Feels like you've been talking about it since I discovered when I went vegan 5 years ago... but that can't be right, can it? haha And great video, as always!
The most likely vegans to succumb to the pressures of ultra-processed foods would be the ethical vegans, not environmental vegans, and definitely not the nutritional vegans.
Heyy. I know this video was posted a long time ago but I still want to contribute a significant correction. I'm not against veganism but I do have to say something about that part where he said gladiators ate little to no animal protein. This is not true. Dishes like porks blood, pork knuckle stew and organ meats were given to gladiators since and we're a big part for their diet especially on special occasions. Gladiators were not vegan but they did rely on the daily consumption of plant based protein but that doesn't mean the consume little to no animal protein at all. Basically, they were omnivores
Congrats on your degree! We need you ! I'm a physician and the hospitals serve eggs and bacon for breakfast to people after their bypass surgery. Its hard to find anything healthy on the menu. The veggies are poorly prepared and taste awful. They might as well sell cigarettes.

Congratulations on finishing your MPH!
And thanks for all of your informative (and entertaining) videos!
Congratulations! 🎉🎉. Thank you for all the work you put into your videos.
Congrats on mastering getting your masters in a masterful way! Your ambitions and consistency are truly inspiring. Onward
Congrats on your MPH. Keep up the good work brother. Former vegan dieter thinking about going back!!
Congratulations on completing your masters. 🎉 Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us. 😊
Love your videos.I love your research style and presentation. Congratulations on finishing your degree. I’m sure you contributed so much to the program for everybody.
There's a lot of benefits of Taurine, which is difficult to get on a vegan diet, so I've been supplementing with capsules 2 or 3 times a week.
It is fantastic how much depth you are able to go into on this! I'm considering going vegan again after 14 years as just a vegetarian and I can't believe how much more there is to know now, the science was in such early stages then. Everyone thought I was crazy and sacrificing my health for 'the animals'
Now I will call you master Mike.
Mike!!! Congratulations are in order! Good Job!
MicTheVegan will make a great epidemiologist. I look forward to seeing him speak at conferences.
Most of cow's milk is actually not that rich in calcium. In our country they actually add calcium to the milk. So why not just drink plant based milk that has also added calcium and other nutrients
I'm meat based but i subscribed because it's interesting. I like that there are links to your sources.
Time to start pickling parsley! I actually think this'll work well, mixed in with some other veg in my ferments.
A good raw kombucha serving has more than 100% of your recommended daily B12.
And also contains a lot of sugar.
Wow! Congratulations on your degree!!!! I have been watching your channel for 6 years now!! So wild.
Congratulations on your degree and thank you for your videos 💚
"But we have canines!" Yeah so does literally every other mammal
Just a side note. Green kombucha has many B vitamins in it. Great video!!!
Congratulations on your MPH! I remember what a relief it was to finish my thesis, take comps, and finally graduate with an MS in Natural Science.
Hi Mic! I haven't looked through all your videos yet but have you ever done one about vegan/vegetarian diets and developing
Hypochlorhydria? I developed that condition after being a vegetarian/vegan for over 20 years of my life and had no choice but to start eating meat to deal with the side effects that almost killed me. Didn't know if you knew of it or other ways to treat it. Thanks!
Congratulations on the MPH! I just had a conversation with a woman telling me she was doubtful as to saturated fat being harmful. I just couldn't 🙁
Congratulations on your masters!!!! 🎉🎉🎉🍾🍾🍾🎈🎈🎈🎈🎊🎊👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
And thank you for making these videos! ❤
All primates eat meat at times in the wild, I would be interested if zoos give them this part of their natural diet.
I went vegan and had 3 strokes, broke 14 bones, had a heart attack, got MS and Lou Gherig's disease, was diagnosed with Parkinson's, had an aneurism, and my teeth fell out. Other than that, I'm in great health.
You eating straight Oreos?
Congratulations!!!! We are so proud of you!!!!
When people talk to me about protein deficiency, I always ask them if they've heard of kwashiorkor. They stare at me, confused. Exactly. Protein deficiency is not a problem in the Western world.
Almost every meat eater has B12 deficiency
Have you googled B12 sources?
thanks mic!! you are my go to for recommending credible voices in the vegan community.
cheers.
Congratulations! I've been telling people that's who you are, the guy studying for that!! 🎉 Woohoo 🙌
Congratulations on obtaining your masters bro. And thanks again for yet another insightful video.
Could you do a video on GMOs and glyphosate/Roundup? This seems like a big deal that effects everyones food in the US but no one is talking about it.
People usually make this a vegan problem. That’s funny to me as it would effect everybody
Congratulations on your Master's degree and thank you for all you do.
I love asap science! My daughter turned me on to them years ago! Great review!
Congratulations on your Masters! Love your debunk videos! Keep them coming!❤
Congrats Mic! Well done on MPH! And thanks for the great research summaries and commentaries as always. Every success.
WOOO Congrats man! That's spectacular! Wonder if you could talk about your experience with your program for interested parties...
love your channel mic, thank you so much
Congratulations on completing your Masters wooooooooo 🎉🎉🎉
I know how you feel. Finishing my MLIS next semester. Been 3 years 😆
My canines are so insignificant, that they look like other teeth, like they are in no way pointy. 😂 I personally never saw "big" canines on a person, sometimes they at best are a little pointy and it looks like dracula teeth, especially when we were kids we were so interested in those things, never saw big canines, don't know why ppl use it as an argument at all 😅
Congratulations on graduating Mike!
Thank you for making this video ! I am disapointed in them for not checking more their data. They should have asked you for advices :p
Thanks so much for doing this video, love your channel
2:41 can anyone recognise what's on the plate? I can see olives, tomatoes, broccoli, beans, a yellow pepper, a rice puff cracker, what's the stringy stuff next to the olives and what's the large yellow portion on the bottom with leaves on top of it? I really love the idea of a more plant based diet but its soooo hard to do that in a third world country like the Philippines where you're slapped in the face with pork or chicken everywhere you go, unless you find that exceptionally rare restaurant with overpriced tiny portions of vegan food,
Was waiting for you to cover this...
😇✨
Someone else has probably mentioned it but Joaquin Phoenix became vegan when he was three years old! Same time as his whole family.
Feels like you've been talking about it since I discovered when I went vegan 5 years ago... but that can't be right, can it? haha
And great video, as always!
The most likely vegans to succumb to the pressures of ultra-processed foods would be the ethical vegans, not environmental vegans, and definitely not the nutritional vegans.
This channel is criminally underrated!
Congratulations Mic!! So happy for you 😊 do you have a Venmo?
Congrats on the MPH! Thank you for the great content!
Lol, I just knew it... You'd be responding to this today...?! Thanks, Mikey. Cheers.
Well done on your degree 🥳 and thank you for another fantastic video 🌱💪🙂
Love your work. You helped ease the anxiety I felt as I transitioned to a vegan diet while pregnant. I spent many late nights watching your videos!
that's simply not true, it's just another one of your fabrications. mic was never pregnant
The famous River family of actors/actresses have been vegan since birth and was a vegan mom whilst carrying her children i believe
@@moosky7344 River family? Who on earth are you talking about?
@@ASMRyouVEGANyet 😂 You must know who i meant, famous Vegan brother begins with J phoenix,River was his late brother ✌️
Just wanted to send Love to your efforts in making all your videos.
Congrats on your degree! We need you ! I'm a physician and the hospitals serve eggs and bacon for breakfast to people after their bypass surgery. Its hard to find anything healthy on the menu. The veggies are poorly prepared and taste awful. They might as well sell cigarettes.
Congrats on the MPH!
