My case manager has been trying to force me against my will, because I don't have a job. I told her that and she doesn't listen to me. I'm my own guardian and I love living on my own. There's privacy, activity rooms in my apartment building, even a mini gym. My apartment manager is on my side too. I had to advocate for myself on my phone all last weekend, but it worked out.
I posted my problem on Facebook, text my therapist, my sister and friends. They are on my side as well. My lease is signed twice for this year and my rent will be $430 every month starting in April. I have it really good here, if I go to the activity rooms and get good exercise. This past Monday morning, I called Aging& Disability and I called my case manager's supervisor. It all worked out for me. 👍😁😁
Yes I live in a group home i was placed in one since 2018 and I hate it here so far since my Uncle moved and My grandma passed away in 2016 and she raised me all these years
Thank God I have an apartment all to myself for the last 13 years with Hud's Permanent Supportive Housing Program. I have Autism choice to work vs Social Security disability I pay 30% of income for rent.
Yes I agree I'm against it aswell I'm more then capable of making my own decisions and I was not told anything abt group homes I'm filing for My own guardianship to change living space
And they will say that for the most complex needs group homes are the best place and I disagree because you have Staff that have to take care of everyone and it’s not that easy to do with a group of people that have the same disabilities. The group homes model should not exist.
Thanks be to almighty Jehovah my daughter is living at home again!! She’s able to walk in her underwear and drink or eat anything and at anytime at home sweet home ❤
I get it Freedom to Eat on her time sleeping on her time -I personally don’t like the ridge stuff of group homes -they don’t read or encourage individual independence -my daughter is befuddled by the past ridge stuff of her being in groups home . Much better with mom who is teaching skills for independence.Freedom
My aunt Cheryl told me to wait a year, to see what happens, but I'm not buying it. Hopefully, I can get a job, so she's not worried about me being a couch potato.
I so appreciate all this very informative videos, full of great helpful information. Thank you!!
The best part of all this is that my case manager said that she won't talk to me about group homes anymore.

I'm against them as well and I have autism.
Who would have thought that people are seldom happy in residential institutions?
So sad😢

Are all DD group homes bad? How to find a good one? Son has autism and positive behavioral supports vital.
