Thanks for posting this mate. I absolutely loved this beer. Only just finished the keg and I'm planning to make it again asap. I'm new to all grain and really appreciate the detail in this video. Helped me through the whole brew day.
shanethoroughgood That’s great to hear mate, thanks for the feedback. Cheers!
It's looking very good so far...
Bring on Pt 2.
cool vid Gash. cool to see you use a counterflow, they look like a worthy investment. look forward to the next part of the brewday. Cheers mate.
I still love my plate chiller, but I did use a home made counterflow for years, they are very good! Thanks for watching mate! Cheers!
Hi Gavin, Greetings from NZ. Your extract/coopers NEIPA went off a treat. Now I have a RB3 so cant wait to try this one. I purchased a sack of Gladfield american ale malt so will be using that . It will be an awesome Christmas beer!!! Cheers
SOunds like a plan, thanks for watching mate! Much appreciated. Cheers!
I love my CFC! It makes my BrewDay bout 1hour shorter. Great video so far! These NEIPA’s have takeN over lol
Hahaha Yeah I used my home built one for years, they are great, thanks for watching Kenny, Cheers!
Looking good mate yum
great video, cheers!
Hey mate good video. Looking forward to your dry hopping method. My only attempt at an NEIPA was a disaster and I put it down to messing up the dry hopping so hopefully I'll get some tips from you and give it another go.
Oh No! thats sucks, Thanks for watching mate, cheers!
Good style bro. I appreciate videos like yours. I just subbed to your channel. Cheers!
Thanks for watching mate and thanks for the sub! Cheers!
Nice one mate. Looking forward to part 2! I just bought that same coubterflow chiller. Seemed a good price
Seems to work well enough! Cheers!
@@HomeBrewNetwork I'm looking forward to doing a side by side timed comparison with the robo's standard immersion chiller compared to this. Lately we've been running the wort through the immersion chiller and have it in a bucket of ice water. Having the robobrew built in pump is handy!
Great video Gav. you can't beat the counterflow chiller, I cool the wort the same way in the Grainfather and it only takes a couple of minutes to get down to around 79-80C, I then turn the water off and steep for 10 minutes. Merry Christmas to you and family. cheers mate
Thanks mate, may you have a very merry Christmas too , cheers!!
Down to 80c is the easy part. Cooling to pitching temp near impossible with the temp of the ground water during summer. I can get around the 27c mark into fermenter, then let the glycol chiller do the rest.
Sounding good Gash. I would have thought that IBUs in the 50s is a little out of style (assuming ABV is ~5-6%). I would think high 30s low 40s would be more appropriate. Cheers!
Good one mate........cheers
Cheeerrrrsss mayyyyttttttteee
Gday Gash, any suggestions to stop keg from blocking with this beer?
Awesome vid Gash. My counter flow drops the temperature very quickly. Cold NZ ground water helps too. Cheers mate 🍺🍺
Yeah be awesome to have that cold water all the time, Cheers Tim!
@@HomeBrewNetwork makes a huge difference from Brisbane water. Can get it down to pitching temperature easily.
Cheers!
Cheers mayyyyytttt
Watching this after a while -just got my Brewzilla. Great Video... what does the top screen do?
Just wondering, why not run the pump when mashing in and also when boiling. This would make mashing easier and would mean temperatures are even throughout when boiling.
Great vid, you always explain stuff well, keep it up! If you haven't tried it check out M36 Liberty Bell Ale, it's rebadged from the M79 Burton Union. It's really good, smells fruity in the packet and ferments like a beast! S-04 over US-05 would have been a closer sub in this instance but all good, WLP007 is meant to be great for the style but I've not tried it. :D
Thanks for that info mate, that sounds awesome. Cheers!
Nice video mate, I aimed a bit lower on the IBUs on my recent NEIPA but it looks a tasty brew either way 👍🏻🍻
Yeah who really knows what the ibus are with a beer like this, two lots of steeps and FWH, near on impossible to know. I can say I was worried it was going to be too bitter, but was surprised with how it turned out. I liked it. Cheers Dudes!
@@HomeBrewNetwork definitely its hard to say where you end up with these sorts of beers but if it tastes good who cares what the IBUs say! Cheers
Gashy luv ya videos. Bought my own Robobrew, did my first brewday all seems to have gone well. Can i ask did u have any welding marks that you think would cause issues in the future on yours?
No, theres some discolouring on some of the spot welds but nothing I've worried about, all seems fine. If you think you have too much or something just let them know, cheers mate!
@@HomeBrewNetwork thx cobba
I'm looking at getting a counterflow chiller. How long did it take to cool to pitching? Also how much water do you think you used? Cheers!
Really depends on your ground water temperature, can take any where from 10mins to 20+mins. On a good day probably use about 40L which I collect for cleaning, rest goes on the garden or in the washing machine. Cheers!
What water to grain ratio do you use for your mash?
I dont go by ratios in the single vessel units, just go by feel. I guess you could go by ratios, work out your water to grain, then add the dead space below malt pipe and the bottom, and a small bit for the sides. maybe 4 or 5 Litres (1 Gallon) So for this recipe it would be close to 5kg of grain, and at 3:1 that would make 15L plus another 4-5L for the dead spaces, would make 19-20L. I used 20L for this recipe. Cheers!
Friend, How many minutes do you usually spend to do the sparge?
Cant say I've ever timed it, can be slow some days if I havent stirred maybe 20mins, but since I've been wet conditioning the grain, it happens pretty fast.. maybe 5 to 10mins
How many minutes does it take to dough in and get all the grains properly stirred for a batch of beer in the Robobrew?
By myself not long, maybe 5mins, umm if I remember I'll check the footage and work it out. Much quicker with some one to help. Cheers!
Hi Gash Recipe says add Hops stand hops but i din't see it in the video. Did you miss that on the video or just didn't added? Thanks.
It's all there, just checked. Cheers mate
how different would it be to NOT add the oats? or what can you replace the oats with?
Oats are a big part of NEIPAs, they help with mouthfeel and some haze, you could leave them out if you're just after the flavour, maybe sub with flaked wheat? Cheers!
hey mate got a link to that clamp on the hose to reduce flow or the name of what they're called ?
They can be difficult to find, umm theres this one but I dont like the knob bit, its much better with a t piece.. this ones out of stock anyway but will give you an idea, I've had mine for years. www.keg-king.com.au/25mm-screw-type-hoffman-hose-clamp.html You maybe able to use something like this rover.ebay.com/rover/1/705-53470-19255-0/1?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com.au%2Fitm%2F45mm-Capacity-Screw-Type-Brake-Hose-Clamp-Set-T-E-Tools-2042%2F282197134561%3Fepid%3D1473816137%26hash%3Ditem41b4428ce1%3Ag%3A8zkAAOSwlVBfCCk5&campid=5338500856&toolid=20008
@@HomeBrewNetwork Cheers mate
What is the point of a recirculating pump if you are going to stir it so much anyway? Am I missing something? I am evaluating whether an all in one system is worth getting
Stirring is good for any mash, makes sure you don't have dry spots or channeling, helps to even out temperatures and stops the grain bed compacting. A pump isnt needed for a simple mash, but it comes in handy for temperature changes, it saves verloufing by hand and is good for transferring wort. People tend to over think the simple process of mashing, you can mash in a shoe if you preheat it and insulate it. You'll find most commercial breweries tuns will have a stir arm and if not they'll stir during the mash. All systems have their good and bad points, best thing about an all in one system is the the ease of setup, pack up and cleaning. Emptying a keggle full of grain is no fun at all. Cheers!
didnt realise that homemakeit shop sold grains ? was out there the other week grabbing a third fermenter yeah, looked like an interesting shop but they werent allowing customers to come in due to covid, only do pickups etc
Hi mate, is there any chance of those hops clogging up your pump once you’ve taken the grain basket out.
I've never had a blocked pump in the robo after all these years! I'm still not sure how it happens to people, the false bottom stops 99% of the hops and the bits that do get past are very fine. Cheers mate!
The Home Brew Network Thanks heaps for the reply and keep up the good work I’m really enjoying all your content.👍
Thanks for watching!
Have you ever considered doing recipe kits?
I did throw the idea up once, but didnt get any bites. Cheers!
fc I always follow you
Cheers mate and thanks!
you don't actually hand crush do you?
I did for years, didnt really have much choice. Stay at home dad here, no money! Cheers mate!
Ah gone are the days of Jenna barely the size of a bucket fv saying "daddy's beer",they grow up too fast, she was throwing some hand signals there lol. Hope all is well with you and yours m8,my sister and her bf are over in Aussie atm,Perth i think. Cheers.
