    pro tip .. use a hop spider and put the tube in it at beginning of boil with the pump running , you catch a ton of loose grain and hops that would otherwise end up as gunk at bottom

    Fantastic video. I was extraordinarily confused when my unit came without an instruction manual. After finding the "official" manual online, I quickly realized that it's... not very comprehensive. At all. Your step-by-step is absolutely perfect. Thanks!

      Agreed. The manual's information density is not very high, and the "use" instructions are mixed in with the "assembly" instructions.

Going to take it completely apart on year one for a very in-depth cleaning and resealing of the fittings. What's wrong with those Robobrew people to make an expensive product and not provide a manual. Love your video.
    I think you should come up with a little hang-on basket that fits onto some of the external bits, maybe the bottom of the pump, to put the overflow valve and the pipe blocker .... I can see those getting lost real fast. Another place to put your logo and URL on.

  • @indiekiduk

    Shouldn't you only put the false bottom in for the boil? Otherwise wouldn't recirculation not work correctly? i.e. grains that get past the grain pipe's filter could get stuck above the false bottom instead of beign recirced back to the top of the mash. And then those would stay in the boil and boiling grains is meant to be bad.

    • @graintoglass
      @graintoglass  10 місяців тому +1

      Hey, if you are using the fine mesh screen I would recommend not using it. Otherwise grain crush might be to fine or if your recipe had a lot of flakes or wheat malt it tends to cause issues. Using a couple hand fulls of rice hulls next time should help. Cheers!

    Very informative video. Can you elaborate on what improvements were made to this 3.1.1? I didn’t notice anything different from my 3.1, I assume it’s something in the control programming.

    • @graintoglass
      @graintoglass  4 роки тому

      I honestly couldn't find anything other than improved circuit board when I tried to research the differences. At some point I will take apart the 3.1 and 3.1.1 to see if I can spot any internal differences.

    • @Kardea22
      @Kardea22 3 роки тому +2

      @@graintoglass They added an alteration to the programming: there's now *two* "AUTO" modes. One starts the next step's timer immediately upon finishing each programmed step. The other AUTO mode waits until the next step's set temperature has been achieved and THEN starts the timer. I only know this 'cause I saw a review of the v3 (not the 3.1.1) and the reviewer specifically complained about a lack of a preheat version of the timers. Apparently one of the designers eventually saw the review. Haha.

    I'm looking at ditching my propane set up for this. My question, can you really plug this into any outlet? Or do I need to make sure it's on a circuit where not much else is going too? I plan to run this in the garage, maybe a light or 2 on but that's about it. If I wanted to run it in the house, would I run into issues if it's on the same circuit as say, a fridge, or a TV and sound system?
    Also, could you just have the mash pipe installed while you heat up your mash water? Why heat it up, THEN put it in?

    • @graintoglass
      @graintoglass  3 роки тому +1

      It draws give or take 1500 watts so it will depend on what else is plugged into that circuit. I have yet to run into any issues and I've plugged it in various outlets inside and outside of my house. I leave the mash pipe in the Brewzilla while it heats up.

    Two questions:
    1. How much sparge water are you supposed to use?
    2. What fittings attach to the Chiller?

    • @graintoglass
      @graintoglass  2 роки тому +1

      Sparge water will vary based on amount of grain and batch size. Use a calculator like the one in Brewfather to calculate mash and sparge volumes. On the chiller for the cold water in I have 1/2" tubing connected with a hose clamp that goes to a garden hose fitting and for the hot water out I use high temperature silicon tubing. Cheers

    I am getting E3 error. The machine doesn’t start. I filled up my brew zilla with 20+ litres of water. Waited for half hour. But still doesn’t start. Any trouble shooting ideas. ?

    • @graintoglass
      @graintoglass  Рік тому

      Hello, according to the manual:
      E3 error: This indicates the boil dry protection has been triggered. This can be triggered for several reasons including:
      If the BrewZilla has been operated when it has not been filled at least to the minimum liquid fill line. If this happens it will trigger the boil dry error. Please make sure the BrewZilla is always filled to at least the minim fill line.
      The pump has pumped the boiler dry. For instance if you block off the overflow tube that allows excess liquid to return to the boiler this can result in pumping all the liquid into the malt pipe and then the liquid level in the boiler will be too low and cause this error to occur. Always make sure to have enough liquid in the BrewZilla so even when the pump has pumped liquid into your malt pipe you still have enough in the bottom of the boiler to ensure the boil dry protection has not been triggered.
      Solids in the boiler such as excessive hops, sugars or other solids. For instance if you pour a kg of sugar into the boiler all at once this will cover the element and act like a blanket. This will allow the element to reach temperatures that are above boiling point and this will result in triggering the boil dry protection. The same thing can happen when excessive hops, and other solids sit and cover up the element.
      This error may also indicate that a wire may have come loose from a terminal, a wire is connected to the incorrect terminal or the main circuit board/LCD are malfunctioning.
      I've also heard of many people fixing this error by replacing the circuit board or both circuit board and lcd screen. Just make sure that both are version 3.1.1
