@@FeyonaT Corn that is harvested when the seeds are dry is considered a grain. Sweet corn when harvested before maturity is usually considered a vegetable. Sweet corn is grown to be eaten fresh as a vegetable rather than as a dried grain that would be ground into flour for example. So corn on the cob would thus be a vegetable (and the kernels are fruit actually)

Nice, it doesn't matter how healthy a diet could be, if it is difficult to stick, it's a recipe for a disaster.

Really underrated concept. Diet adherence is one of the most important things. Eating super healthy for a week and then giving up and going back to eating full garbage is worse than someone who eats 95% garbage all the time. That one week of "healthy" does not do much anything. Which is why diets and lifestyles and focus on moderation are the best. Don't attempt to become a Pro athlete or lose 10kg a month. It's not sustainable for the vast majority of people, nor is it even healthy at that point. Extremism of any kind is unhealthy.
Make smaller adjustments that can become part of your lifestyle, so that you can sustain them indefinitely. On day at the gym per week isn't a lot, but doing it for 50 years, is far better than going 5x for a few months and then giving up completely. Reducing the amount of junk food in the diet by 30% is going to be more sustainable and better for your health than a short term complete avoidance, followed by binging double the amount.

I'm on day 18 of the WHOLE30 diet. I can say that I have a lot more energy than before. I don't feel like I need to take several naps per day. Unlike you, I wasn't eating a healthy diet before - I always ate way too much sugar/bread/white rice/pasta, just unhealthy carbs and not enough vegetables and fruit. This diet is just teaching me to make better choices; to choose what I eat based on what my body NEEDS and not just on what it WANTS (because all it wants is cheese and sugar, honestly). LOVE

I did whole 30 by a doctors recommendation and ended up in the ER. I am anemic and didn't realize it would hurt anything. My doctor was aware when they recommended the diet but like most of my doctors they see a chunky woman and assumed I ate trash. It's very frustrating and just plain hurtful. The ER doc was one I worked with and once I was stable just asked me why I thought that was a good idea. I explained I was meeting my doctor weekly and voiced concerns and there response was that the number on the scale is going down and that I would adjust.

Getting a healthy dose of R&R (even if it's just for one week out of the year) coupled with a healthy dose of fear as a motivator (do you want to be comfortably retired at retirement age or do you want to work until the day you die) and then calculating how much you'll need to save for retirement (yes, in addition to anything your work provides like 401k and Thrift Savings Plan, etc.) to reach that 'comfortable' state, unless you don't mind working for the rest of your life (I know a few people who say they don't care if they work for the rest of their lives right now, but I know I'd prefer to be comfortably retired myself, lol.)

I’m doing the whole30 currently (day 13) and it hasn’t been easy...I’ve gone back to the bad thoughts I’d have when I was anorexic bc of its rigid restrictions. All about “control” so I’ve been easier on myself and eaten some things (some healthy, some not, but not overdoing it) that aren’t on the plan. It’s tough get out of that mindset once you’re in it and small cheats have helped significantly...plus, I don’t think it really does what it says it does unless you’re severely unhealthy. Even then, I’m not sure 🤔

I tried the whole 30 (age 20) to better understand my dietary habits and what certain foods do to my body. It basically showed me that I’m sensitive to lactose and gluten. It also showed how my eating habits really affected me in my energy, clarity, and overall performance in daily life. My skin cleared up, I slept better, waking up wasn’t a pain for the first time in my life! Now (age 25) I’ve used what I learned and make better habits with food. I agree with Doctor Mike that it’s a bit overboard and not necessarily the BEST diet BUT it is a clear set of rules to follow that can lead to better food awareness. I could’ve seen these changes by “just eating healthier” but I didn’t know what that meant when I was 20. 4.5 years later, I stick to simple food that’s unprocessed, while allowing treats here and there in moderation. I feel great.

I appreciate how you emphasize in both of your Whole30 videos that it's more of a challenge/protocol and isn't trying to be a diet you follow the rest of your life. When I did my Whole30, I was having serious digestive issues, but was unwilling to go to a doctor at the time and this seemed like a way to maybe help. Doing Whole30 helped me figure out that I was having issues with apples and led me down the path of researching low-FODMAP. I finally wound up seeing a gastroenterologist because I wanted to get a professional's opinion before I went down the road of a low-FODMAP protocol (I really didn't want to say goodbye to onion and garlic) and working with him found out I have celiac! So yeah, Whole30 is definitely not a cure-all and can't replace dealing with an actual medical professional, but I did find it really helpful when I wasn't mentally or financially (all my testing has cost me like $3k+) ready to work with a doctor yet.

Ya , we have to throw out or give away all the sweet treats that are left over from December. We decline all invites to dinner and such, saying we are on a crazy diet for a month, everyone seems to understand that and no one gets their feelings hurt. So don’t do Whole30 on a whim…plan for it in January!

I'm on day 7 of whole 30, and I've realized just how much I crave sweets and cheese. I was cooking a lot of asian dishes as well and had to give up rice was hard too. :( It's quite the emotional rollercoaster. At times I want to give up and do at least a dessert with compliant ingredients or just go paleo, but I'm beginning to also notice that its because of my desire for sweets and things that are bad for me and how I want to get into a healthier mindset. It floors me just how little can be bought at the grocery store, even from the organic section, while on whole 30, and how some form of sugar is added to most every processed food.

Great request. October/Nov 2018, a new doctor told me to go on it. I tried to do it and I actually felt worse and so stressed out about it that I had to quiet it or risk losing my mind while alienating my family. I decided to get a food allergy test instead. While that food allergy test had its issues it put me on to a "sensitivity" to pork. I was stunned. Thanksgiving ham was primarily the meat I ate starting out and I felt so ill afterwards. I never would have caught it going by the FODMOD diet, which allowed all meats but recommended limiting red meat, while cutting or limiting everything else I had been eating since 2008. Cutting out pork cleared up much of the sickness, well sever sickness I had been having every month for the last 3 years.

It’s possible to do a Whole30 thanksgiving! We did it this year, out of respect for my family who didn’t want “health food” (even though you couldn’t even tell they were Whole30) I did end up making separate dishes for myself, but it was still a good experience! I feel a lot more confident working my way around the kitchen and knowing what foods have.
On a side note, I’m on my 3rd Whole30 and as a result I have lost 25 pounds over the course of 2019. Some people just can’t do this, they’re metabolism doesn’t like it, or they aren’t willing to give something up. As for working out, you’re going to get worse before you get better. You HAVE to make sure you eat enough food every day, for example I eat 3 400-600 calorie meals a day, and I’m still losing weight. Good on you for trying!

Ah, Doctor Mike... Green peas _ARE_ a Legume!! You _should_ have just enjoyed everything at that Greek dinner. Strictly speaking, green peas are not vegetables. They are part of the legume family, which consists of plants that produce pods with seeds inside. Lentils, chickpeas, beans and peanuts (peanut butter) are also legumes. Had a friend whose child was _allergic_ to lentils & legumes. Sorry about this information at such a late time. Better luck _next_ time. 🤗🥂

@Petri Dish Without Germs Green peas, green beans and snap peas are allowed because they do not contain the same level of antinutrients and lectins that are more prevalent in other beans.

When I did the whole 30 I remember reading in one of the sections that 45-90 days was recommended but for most people that is not achievable. I actually did it for 6months then reintroduced foods every two weeks. That's how I found out that I have a lot of sensitivities. Wheat, legumes, and even dairy. Overall I lost over 100lbs 10 inches around my waist. I did suffer from vitamin d deficiency, which I anticipated living in the pacific northwest, and cutting dairy. You need to plan and get labs done prior to doing any elimination diet. Also I did this diet when I was 30 and I had more energy than I did when I was a teenager and it greatly reduced my pain. I still will not do sugar.
