Clips from this show documenting the lives of people who save money any way they can have gone mega viral on UA-cam, and it turns out a lot of them are pretty medical. Today I look at women who dumpster dive for medicine and food, a man who risks his life enrolling in countless medical studies to stop his heart and harvest his testicles, a man who sleeps on packing peanuts, and a woman who cooks her lasagna in the dish washer. I love how Dr. Mike got straight up dead serious about the health & welfare of that woman's kids who were eating the dishwasher lasagna. He's a really non-judgemental guy overall. But feeding kids basically uncooked beef fat made him sit up & take notice!
There were more people there. It was disgusting to watch.
Would have been better off with just noodles, sauce, and cheese. That beef fat was so gross, and 170 degrees is the temp ground meat should be after be after being cooked in an oven twice that temp.
I doubt any of that was actually real. If she was actually a cheapskate she’d be washing her dishes in the sink and not using a dishwasher at all. If this is what she does every time then why would they be surprised by the food? There’s also nothing about the rest of her lifestyle shown that indicates she’s particularly concerned about money.
For the Lasagna: It is one thing to do these things for yourself only, but when you have kids or are feeding other people it is really dangerous. I am really glad Dr. Mike mentioned getting CPS involved if the person did not want to change.
Exactly. If you want to eat a certain way, go for it. But don't make others do it too, especially without any warning.
I went into anaphylaxis at 19 and ended up unconscious on the floor of my bathroom. My boyfriend at the time gave me my EPI pen, which was 2 years expired because they were $600 for a box of 2 and I couldn't afford new ones. It brought be back, but barely and I ended up getting another from the paramedics who were able to get there in about 2 minutes. Medications like epinephrine should ALWAYS be free when it is the difference between life and death because $600 is the difference between housing and no housing for the month. Thanks Dr. Mike!!

I’m Native American. We eat and have eaten clover and dandelions for many years. They are safe to eat in their natural form. The danger of getting them in the wild is that someone could have sprayed a pesticide or herbicide on them that you don’t know about. For our traditional foods we usually grow these in our own gardens. There are many plants that are safe and have good nutritional value that are not typically eaten in a European diet. The important thing is that they’re grown safely and not with unsafe chemicals sprayed on them.
Yep. That's the single biggest problem of 'found' fruit and plants. You don't know if they've been sprayed, or even if they're diseased (unless you know what you're looking at).
Not to mention that eating random plants is a sure way to end up sick, or even dead if you don't know what they are.
My family started making foods out of dandelions, mostly jellies, teas, and salads. The jelly tastes just like peach
Often Dandelion leaves are found in store bought spring salad mixes.
It used to be commonplace in Europe as well and I'm sure there are plenty of grandmothers still collecting them today. It was actually imported here by Europeans because every part was useful (except maybe the stems, I have no idea about those). The flowers for tea, wine, and jelly; the leaves for salad greens; and the roots can be cooked like parsnips or ground up and used as a coffee replacement (if you squint really hard and plug your nose. And now we call them weeds and complain bitterly about them 🤷♀
@@kathleendavidson3316 If I could afford it, I would love to have a dandelion farm. Reseeding would be no issue. I also have a love of the flower. I would bet a dandelion is the first flower any mom gets from her kids. I have an artificial group of dandelions in my memorial cabinet in honor of my mom.

A lady on UA-cam did a debunking of the dishwasher cooking hack. She cooked food in the dishwasher with a thermometer hooked up to it. She said that, from the outside, it looked like the fish (I think it was fish?) was well cooked, however, the data from the thermometer proved otherwise.
So Dr Mike is spot on about this being dangerous.
The second lady came out in an interview and said that she doesn't typically do any of what they showcased in the show. She's cheap, yes, she admits it, but they asked her to really amp it up for the sake of the entertainment factor of the show. I felt so bad for her watching that interview, people were calling her all sorts of names because of it.
I mean….. what did she expect? To be honored and praised? She’s literally taking food out of garbage bins. Whether or not the food is edible, it was inside a GARBAGE bin on the street.
I say she got what she deserved. But hey, shame for money!

i feel like the second lady is mostly fine, like having your meals all in one pot is lovely! I personally wouldn't go dumpster diving for produce but i mean if she finds good stuff and washes it throughly i dont see a problem with it. I think her guests were really terrible.

Love how the girl cooking the lasagna in the dishwasher while washing the dishes doesnt clue in that she admitted to having to use more tin foil to avoid the water leaking in, so you now just wasted product you could have saved by just using the oven 🤦♀️

@@triforce9286 It said 170 for an hour. And maybe they meant Celsius (338°F)? Then it would be enough but still never recommended.
@Shana_Fujioka ah, 170, okay. But hot water heaters are only set to about ~125F. Otherwise, you get severe scalding. And a quick Google search says dishwashers are fixed between 130-150F. And the boiling point of water is only 212F, so everything kinda points it to being in fahrenheit.
And that woman has some custom hot water system to get it that hot.
@@triforce9286 I didn‘t consider that, I have no idea how hot our dishwashers get (Google said 50-70 Celsius), so you‘re right, they most likely meant Fahrenheit so this lasagne is definitely not cooked through.🙈
I love the fact that you can see it clearly on his face when Doctor Mike worries about something someone says. Not out of annoyance but out of pure concern. It's one of the reason so many of us watch his videos - it's clear that he's both professional and compassionate.

As someone who grew up poor and still deals with old emotional issues of food insecurity, I could never bring myself to dumpster dive for food. Just the thought of it makes me nauseated. And then to feed it to children.... absolutely not. 😨 I guess I've been lucky enough to be in an area with food pantries and churches that will help those in need of food.
I think it really depends on what you take. I've never been dumpster diving myself but I wouldn't have any issues diving for fruit and veg. When I worked in a supermarket we would throw away so much fruit that was perfectly edible. I often threw away 2 kg nets of oranges and boxes of kiwis where only one fruit had gone bad. I think anything that doesn't need refrigeration and can be properly cleaned (or in sealed packaging) is probably fine.
This is true tho we grew up poor n always had sumthing to eat she was just dragging it in my opinion

I, too, grew up with food insecurity and to this day I don’t think I have enough food in the house unless my cabinets are practically being pulled from the walls.
Food pantries have been my go-to sometimes I get free laundry detergent and fabric softener in there, it helps so that money that would have been used for that gets put to something else.
The second girl I feel really bad for. She did an interview a little while after that was filmed, and she said she was getting bullied alot for her looks and it made her feel really bad about herself. She also said half the stuff she did, the producers told her to do. She seems like a really sweet, beautiful woman. She didn't deserve the hate =(

Dandelion greens and flowers actually are perfectly safe and nutritious to have in a salad. The big issue with just foraging them is that unless it's on your own property, you don't know if they've been treated with any pesticides or herbicides.
Or urine and fecal matter from animals.

The lady who stole meds out of the dumpster terrifies me! Anything could be in those pills. That’s really not a risk worth taking for some free prenatal meds. You don’t know if you’re ingesting fentanyl or folic acid.
Especially when there are other options available, I dont know the cost of folic acid in the US but surely it isnt that much and if she is using it to try and improve her odds of conceiving that is a scary thought, if you are that desperate and poor, you shouldnt be thinking of having kids. Folic acid is found in foods so if you cant afford folic acid pills then why not just eat folic acid rich food?
right like... there's literally a ton of it in spinach which is super easy to grow... Not that folic acid is all that much anyways, the bottle of prenatal vitamins I bought was $25 but that's 125 daily doses of it... literally 25 cents per day... and it's not even just folic acid in there, it has iron and fatty acids and stuff

@@MMHay16 they aren't very expensive but even if you can't afford one every day then why not one every two days or similar. All your nutrients should ideally come from diet anyway. For a lot of these people I don't think they are that desperate for money but instead just don't want to spend anything.
I'm pretty certain that that segment was fake/coerced by producers, BUT people do dumpster dive for meds. Like there's a statistic of people who get sick/die from dumpster diving for meds and nothing will happen cause the pharmecutifal industry keeps raising prices.

good immune system, but mold grows and spreads as a network kinda and in porous food like bread it can spread easily more than you see on first glance (vs saver in harder foods like vegies or cheese), so maybe check up on some info about food-mold ^^

@@kingofgrim4761 Most of these people CAN afford better, they just choose not to. If it were an actual case of people not being able to afford it, there are plenty of places to get help. Food stamps, food banks, churches give clothes, and food. There are specific pharmacies and low-income insurances that will pay a portion of, or cover medications, and vitamins. As far as pregnancies are concerned there's specific help that you can get associated with that. These people are choosing to live this cheap, and unsafe because of status, or mental issues, or just as a way to shock people on the show.

I know I don’t. I think I use about $10 of liquid hand soap, and that’s only because the country where I live, you don’t really have anything quite like Costco. Back when I lived in USA, I’d buy a gallon jug and it would last me probably 2+ years.
Even including a few fancy body washes I haven't spent that much on soap in a year's time.
@@latelaughlove Yeah... I use Dove sensitive skin body wash, which is not the cheapest but probably not the most expensive. It costs me $15-$20 every 2 months, give or take.
Even with the fancy soaps I buy from local vendors, I still wouldn't hit that much.
I like the home made soap saver the man has going on there, but he's exaggerating how much money it saves him.
Leaving your soap in a bit of water does not wear it down by 50%...unless you're leaving it in a full sink of water...

I used to work in a deli, and we would throw away no less than 60 lbs of fresh sliced meat and 30+ lbs of fresh sliced cheese away at night. It was such a shame.
I would sometimes “accidentally leave the bag” by the dumpster, knowing the homeless would go through it. We couldn’t outright give it to them due to lawsuit concerns, but if they went through it by their own free will, fair game.

I had a friend that was a butcher, and after a week of throwing away prime cuts he asked if they could freeze it, take it home, donate it, or almost something else!
So their manager called around to set up a late night donation pick-up program. And nights that the driver didn't come, they'd put in a discreet black freezer behind the dumpster for poorer people to get.
Our store used to have boxes of old produce people could take "for animal use" but they stopped doing it due to lawsuit concerns that people could eat it(of course they were) and sue if there was an issue. At least they will mark down meat when it gets old and near exiprey to have less meat be wasted.
Sometimes you can make a deal for old produce or meat for animal use with a store. You'd sign a contract that it's for animals only and not to be given away BUT this is usually just for larger sanctuaries and such because they want you to take a lot rather than them just saving you some of the waste.
That's horrifyingly wasteful. I think the laws to prevent directly giving leftovers to homeless was enacted after homeless were being intentionally poisoned? I seem to recall something like that. Great example of how the actions of a few end up ruining it for everyone else.
Most places there isn't actually any law that prevents you from giving left over food to people. And they can't actually sue you if they get sick unless they can prove you knew the food wasn't safe.
That makes zero sense to me. It's just bad business practice. Slice on demand with a small selection that's pre-sliced/packaged and restocked regularly and only of the most commonly sold items. But also, even at the Amish butcher where I live, everything is pre sliced and everything but it can sit in the display case for a few days before being sold... but that's rare. And they never fill the display trays they pull from. When they do "refill" them, it's never more than half. If someone wants an item they're out of, they'll slice on demand and then add some to the display tray.
If TLC didn't report child abuse then they need shut down.

I hate TLC shows. Instead of getting these people help or stopping then from doing dangerous things, a lot of times they are just exposing and exploiting these people for nothing in return. It's horrid.
Or not try to Make things more extreme than what they really are.
It helps people with similar problems to seek help, but they I think are in just for money.

Nothing in return? These "exploited" people are enjoying the 15 minutes of fame they're getting. They already realize their extreme behaviors are unusual and I'm sure they've gotten blow back for a lot of it. But, these are adults who agree to share their habits with anonymous spectators.

For me that's way too low. Dude will regret that and there's no money that could regrow it. Besides that he takes so many risks for peanuts. 35 grand payment was on high side, but he said that he takes a lot of lower paid ones. I'm pretty sure that if anything went wrong with test, he could end up disabled, his medical payments to fix it would make him go upside down and he would lose whatever job he had (well assuming he had one). He should just mop floor at McD's and maybe donate some blood once in a while.

Politics will always be thought about more than science. I really can't stand these idiots who see something wrong with social change. I get some causes can be violent but if someone wants to change their gender, why should anyone else care? The only responsibility we have is to give facts about the effects, not shove our morals down their throat.

I lived with some people who were dumpster diving when I was in uni. They ate better than me and spent almost no money on food. Often the supermarket workers would place good and sealed food next to the dumpsters or nicely placed in the dumpster that the dumpster divers could take, and in Norway in the winter, the food stayed nice and cold. They never got sick. I was too shy to do it myself though.
I also learned to forage as a child and would often eat plants that I found out in nature.
Dishwasher lasagne though, ew.
I worked at trader joes years ago and we had to lock the dumpster down to keep people out. A lot of borderline date food was tossed. Interestingly enough it wasn't the homeless that were the culprits it was college student aged people. The food and bread that was safer went to the food bank.

@@Kristinapedia yeah, it absolutely is in the majority of the US because the dumpsters aren't on public property. In major cities where dumpsters are in city-owned alley ways, then yes... the company has discarded the item and it's been officially, "put on the street" for collection. But when the dumpster is on private property, and that includes shopping plaza parking lots/service ways, that's stealing. If the police need a warrant to search it, you're tress passing and committing theft because those service passages aren't for customers and you aren't there for a legitimate, doing business, purpose. Ya gotta check the legal precedent for wherever you are.

Physically crawling into a dumpster is a bone-headed, idiot move because nothing is worth your life and falling 8-9ft onto solid steel on a concrete slab could cause a neck or head injury that is lethal not to mention, noxious fumes from decaying food, the risk of improperly disposed needles or leaking batteries because acid burns are super fun, and the list goes on. If its IN A DUMPSTER, don't go after it... unless its just, sitting on top and you can safely just, take it down.
The lady who was dumpster diving for food has been in videos more recently talking about her experience on this show and it is heartbreaking! A lot of people sought her out on social media and cyber-bullied her, but she explains in other newer videos that she is NOT that extreme with any of her money-saving techniques. Obviously this is all for entertainment, but it makes me so sad that the producers exaggerated her story and she got so much hate because of it.
I mean I agree that it's sad that she was bullied for it but honestly if you agree to be on a show like this and go along with doing what the producers want you to, knowing full well that these actions will be attributed to you.....I don't know what they expect to happen.
Well going on a show that is known to have very dangerous people when it comes to food, maybe dont use it as a way to get noticed because obviously cyberbullies will happen whether you're prepared or not
I doubt if those two people she was with were actually her friends. At worst they were actors Kate had never met or they had only been introduced to her just prior to filming. I feel really bad for her because she seems like such a nice woman. She didn't deserve to be treated like that.
@@alice45-fgd-456drt These are really financially insecure people, so if there’s any amount of financial incentive, it’s actually really easy to understand why someone would be compelled to appear on the show.
Those TLC shows are mostly fake. The show extreme couponers is another. They used coupons the company never issued. Grocery stores ran coupon specials that they only did on the afternoon of filming, which lead locals to complain. Just a couple of the things they pulled on that show. So most likely these things were only done for the show, not something they had been actually doing on the regular.
Instead of breathing air, I now don't breathe to save oxygen.

FYI Every part of a dandelion is completely edible, and it's not at all weird to eat them. When the leaves are newly grown they're quite nice in salads or sandwiches (they become more bitter as they age), and they have a similar nutritional profile to spinach or other dark leafy greens. The flowers are a bit sweet and their nectar contains proteins. The roots may have some medicinal value, though more study is needed. Clovers are also completely edible, I used to eat the flowers as a kid because they're full of nectar which is sweet.
That being said, I would NEVER get them off the side of the road like that family did. You have no idea what kinds of pesticides they could be coated with, if they're pulling up contaminates from the soil, not to mention the heavy load of pollutants coming from vehicle exhaust. It's insanely irresponsible, especially when you can easily grow these plants in containers or in your yard. It's also a bit scary to think they're butchering road kill. Rabies and prion diseases could be huge risks depending on where they live and what they're butchering/eating. I hope they're being safe about it, but something tells me they're not...
My grandmother grew up eating dandelion greens (I think a lot of people in her generation did). Our family mainly uses the flowers to make dandelion bread or shortbread cookies. I know some people use the roots as a coffee substitute, but I haven't tried it.

My family has eaten road kill very occasionally - deer and pheasant - usually when seeing a carcass on a return journey that definitely wasn't there on outward journey, if its still warm even better. My dad does have some butchering experience through and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone as a money saving hack!

Dandelion root and chicory root have a fiber called inulin, which is really good for the intestines (health-wise). Also there have been some positive animal studies in helping fight colon cancer. However... kale (and I think dandelion too) is a chelator. If grown in good soil low in heavy metals, then it can assist in heavy metal removal from the body, but if grown in an area with heavy metals, lead, and other pollutants, well, it has an affinity to soak those things up so probably a bad idea.

If you know what to look for, there are plenty of safe and edible plants out there. Dandelions, clover, and sorrel, are all actually quite healthy additions to one's diet. The main problem I see with the roadkill family, besides the obvious gross factor of eating roadkill, is that they're gathering their plants right there on the roadside. Those plants are probably massively contaminated by constant exposure to vehicle exhaust. They should've maintained a distance of at least twenty feet to cut down on that.
I agree. Foraging for edible plants in the woods is one thing. a random roadside is another. Between contaminated plants and roadkill, those poor kids will get sick eventually.

I live in an area with lots of blackberries, and I'm always shocked how may people will pick them right along major roads (especially since pretty much every park has some bramble that's easy to get to).

Honestly the soap trick from the last guy is pretty clever. Helps keep bacteria from growing on your soap too when it's allowed to fully dry.

@@ratsalad178 Apparently, the soap bar itself will be fine. Not because it necessarily kills germs but because only a small amount will be on there, and get rinsed off the next time you use it. However, the soapy sludge that forms when setting bar soap into a dish or on a little shelf can harbor more germs, as it just sits around and stays quite moist.

@@shroomyk The rubber band trick isnt a great solution either as the rubber bands themselves can harbour the bacteria and wont be the easiest to clean (they can develop small cracks in them and I bet he doesnt replace them often), a better solution is a metal or plastic mesh dish to hold it, so the water and sludge can drip out and it is easy to clean.
Dandelions are actually entirely edible and a great thing that foragers look for. If you just look up their nutritional information they're full of vitamins K, A, C, potassium, calcium, iron etc. People should only forage when they are absolutely sure of a plant/fungi but I think dandelions are pretty distinct. Absolute props to foragers as long as they make sure the plants/fungi are safe to eat!
I'm most concerned about which animal pooped near a wild growing plant, and what pesticides have been used nearby.

Some herbicides/pesticides are systemic meaning they go inside the plant and work from the inside out making it impossible to just "wash it off". Many of these can have cancerous agents in it so it's still very dangerous to eat. However much of the stuff in shows like this are B.S. to drive views.

I’ve been lucky enough to grow up in Canada where the healthcare is free. With the amount of surgeries my brother and I have had combined my parents would be hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt. Also all the medications. We both had inhalers growing up, both currently on ADHD meds and both have Prevacid. He’s died about 5 times (that I can remember) and been revived every time. I can’t imagine how much that would cost in America. I recently had to get x-rays, ultrasounds and bloodwork and I’m going for a nerve study and honestly like I’m glad I was born in Canada. I used to wish I was from America but with the healthcare costs my family has had to deal with I’m so grateful.

I came here to say that foraging and dandelions in particular is awesome! No need to go for farmers markets, go wild! Of course there are things to take into consideration, like proximity to traffic etc.
Will also add that picking anything closer than 10m from the road is not considered edible food. Because of the exhaust fumes and other stuff that comes from cars. Atleast where i live we have those laws.
I mean, as long as you wash them you're fine. Farmed crops grow outside and aren't safe from animal pee. Even things grown in greenhouses will get peed on by bees.

Yup. I maybe use one bar of soap a month in the shower. For all other uses I generally don't use bar soap, but if I did it would be maybe another bar per month. 2 bars a month is maybe $15 a year without even getting the cheapest stuff.

I can't believe the doctor didn't know that every part of the dandelion is edible and extremely good for you. The roots can be made into a coffee or tea, flowers and leaves in salads, so many uses. Look in the salad bar at some stores, it might be in there.

That's wonderful to hear! But just two cents from a stranger: use Dr. Mike as a benchmark for what a good doctor is like, and if the doctor you are seeing is too far off, run the other way! It's still best to be careful and not completely trust a doctor right away. I only say this because I think it's easy for bad doctors to steamroller over people who are intimidated by medical visits (for any given reason), when the patient might actually have alarms going off, or questions they would normally ask but feel too uncomfortable to ask when actually at their appointment. This might even apply to good doctors who might just be people who communicate in a way that doesn't click with you. Things just get sensitive when it's something as personal as your health, so I think it's important to "shop around" for a doctor IF POSSIBLE.
i think a lot more doctors should use the way Dr. Mike offers info as a basis for how to treat and approach their patients, judgement leads to shame and not getting help.
But, all doctors aren’t like Dr Mike

For anyone facing money issues who are looking to supplement their meat with something, I’d strongly recommend looking into lentils if you can find them. They’re cheap, easy to boil, and have good protein and fiber.

Watching your reactions to processes is so refreshing and reinforcing my desire to transition into primary/preventative care. I’m an outpatient dialysis nurse and it sucks my soul. I care for my patients. But it makes me crazy how quickly the doctors are to throw meds at every thing rather than trying to understand what is causing the symptoms and fixing that. I try to encourage my patients to find out the root of the problem rather than searching for a bandaid for the symptoms.
I love the reminder to doctors to use medical or professional terminology. My cardiologist told me my feet were "nice and slender, impeccable" it was. Uncomfortable.

From what I remember, it was her husband that specifically asked for the lasagna for a football party with his friends. She tried to justify the cost by making him turn the TV off during commercials and only using a candle instead of lights. And used 2nd hand Spaghetti sauce. The hoops they jump through to make sense of their habits is excessive.

Thank you so much for speaking SENSIBLY about dumpster diving. We have so so high hygiene control in Finland and I live in the same building with a grocery store. Every night they bring their food to the dumpster and every night I sneak out right after them. TONS of good foor, especially fresh veggies and fruit. Even right now I'm eating food I took last night from there.

Worked for a grocery chain for 15 yrs. We donated as much as we could. Bread, vegetables etc… The biggest problem was finding someone to come pick it up.
The soap one and eating clovers, dandelions etc. seemed super nice. If you know what to look for and you can differentiate between plant species, then be happy foraging.
Only if you can guarantee where you forage doesn’t have any chemicals used or toxins in the soil. These days you never know, especially in metropolitan areas.

I often visited a friend who always tried to offer me food. He'd have stuff sitting in the pot overnight on the stove and say it's fine. No matter how stoned I got, I was never hungry enough to eat at his place.

I went to school with someone whose mom made foods like spaghetti with meat sauce or pizza and left it on the counter overnight instead of refrigerating it. I didn't know this until I was at their house one day. I told them I already ate and then went home and ate something I knew was safe. I don't know how they didn't get sick from that.

Former produce department clerk here. Dandelion greens are actually a product sold in some produce departments! They are a great source of vitamin A, C, and K. They also contain minerals such as iron, potassium, magnesium, and calcium. The more you know 🌈
Lol not even most. We have 25 grocery stores within a 4-mile radius. 22 of these have produce departments. Only *one* grocery store sells dandelion greens. Sounds like you live in an extraordinary affluent area.

Like I get it for some medication, especially when not controlled for storage. But like... Yeah, some expiration dates are meaningless. Do they have any plastic components to them? I seem to remember the bibs that all of the dental offices I have visited have a plastic-like coating on one side. Plastics break down over time. That’s why infant and child car seats have expiration dates on them and many consignment shops won’t take them.

Dandelions are actually pretty well documented as a food, it just isn't common in the US. The tricky part with foraged foods is that you don't know the soil quality and thus can't ensure it's free from environmental toxins, animal droppings, etc.
I agree with making sure there's no toxic chemicals in the soil or on the plant itself, but animal droppings? You do realize produce at the grocery store is grown outside, right?

Growing up my Father always talked about fried Dandelion greens and fresh clover as great nutritional values. Having tried them, dandelions are naturally very "buttery" and sweet, and clover has a very refreshing quality to it. They are safe and still commonly eaten.
The dishwasher lasagna one is just nasty! The dishwasher uses high pressure jets that will definitely find their way into the food and bring detergent with them, and it doesn’t get hot enough for long enough. I don’t think that woman has ever cooked a lasagna in her life. In fact, she may have just made up that recipe on the fly to get on a sensationalist TV show.
I used to work at the medical IRB at UCLA and there's a lot of reviews and approvals needed to do these tests on human subjects so when that guy said the doctor stopped that trial where they were planning to stop people's hearts it probably the case that the IRB didn't approve it due to the potential risks. Also there is a real need for diversity in human subjects. We need to have a variety of ethnicities in these trials. So I hope more people will consider doing it after seeing that show and this UA-cam video.

Dandelion is actually quite nutrient dense - right up there with kale. The blossoms are also edible. It’s good to know about common flora where you are at….one never knows.
I was semi-shocked (not fully shocked actually, because I know the education M.D. doctors go through is actually NOT the best in a well-rounded biology way)... I went a bit "off the wall" when he said he "couldn't begin to guess the nutritional content of a dandelion" BECAUSE... just because it contains natural green chlorophyll, that should AUTOMATICALLY tell ANYONE who remembers "basic biology" that means it CONTAINS MAGNESIUM. Because, (this is something even in many biology textbooks) ... if you look up "chlorophyll molecule images", in EVERY legitimate schematic of that green chlorophyll molecule, you'll see an "Mg" right in the middle of it (which represents magnesium). That is why they say "magnesium is found in dark green leafy veggies". And dandelions are one of those which we can see with our own eyes because it's a naturally green plant. On top of that, any plant is going to ALSO contain FIBER because that is a component of ALL plant cell walls.

Dr. Mike dandelions, clovers, and certain flowers are excellent foods. Some garden salads have dandelion leaves in them. These plants were not seen as weeds and people did not stop eating them until manicured lawns became popular around the 19th century. Both dandelions and clover are rich in potassium, and Dandelions are rich in vitamins A and D.
The problem is how they got the dandelions. They don’t know what pesticides or bacteria are on them

On the topic of being in medical studies - I recently got into a study following moms who had Covid while pregnant. I'll be in the study for 4 years and do surveys, physical exams, and blood draws throughout the 4 years, and they'll pay a couple hundred dollars each year. I'm really glad I can be a data point in the process of better understanding COVID!
There's a programme in the UK called 'Too Good To Go,' and it's an app where a large selection of stores sell boxes of food that would otherwise be thrown out because they're close to expiration. It's really lovely when companies actually worry about food waste
