The Late Show with Stephen Colbert is the premier late night talk show on CBS, airing at 11:35pm EST, streaming online via CBS All Access, and delivered to the International Space Station on a USB drive taped to a weather balloon. Every night, viewers can expect: Comedy, humor, funny moments, witty interviews, celebrities, famous people, movie stars, bits, humorous celebrities doing bits, funny celebs, big group photos of every star from Hollywood, even the reclusive ones, plus also jokes.
The calmness in John's voice when he says, "I'm drowning, Stephen" is the single most resonant sentence I've heard in 2020
That's one thing I love about the Brits. If things go belly up you can immediately start to work on a solution without emotional outbursts. It's very efficient.
Stephen and John are the twin peaks of late-night wisdom... I'd be honored if some fans of melancholic 90s classics would take a quick listen to my acoustic piano & vocal performances of LONG DECEMBER by the Counting Crows, SHE'S A BRICK by Ben Folds Five, and Mmm Mmm Mmm by the CRASH TEST DUMMIES on my YT channel. Is anyone else enjoying these at home late night shows more than the regular show. So much more real comedy.
Absolutely!
Kinda thought I was alone in that thought. The jokes without the audience in the background is surreal and sublime.
Nah. They're way less funny. There's a reason these guys have writers and they're proving why.
Although I do enjoy these, the host definitely would rather perform in front of the live audience
I think about how blissful things will be if we get back to normal someday...shows with live audiences, eating in a crowded restaurant, grocery shopping without panic attacks....
They look both so disheveled and so happy at the same time.

Coastal Elites having a chat. What could be better?
It's nice to see John Oliver functioning like everybody else at home with the balance. He truly looked frustrated juggling 2 kids n his career.
I think this whole freaking thing is best summed up in the words of John Oliver: "This is a sub-optimal time to be a human being."
Probably a false statement, as human beings lived in caves for tens of thousands of years. Folks today have got it pretty good in comparison, even taking the COVID into account.
Well, if we're getting all nitpicky (and you're correct of course, I have it better right now than my grandparents at my age, let alone their forebears, though worse than a month ago), it is suboptimal. Whenever things can be better, they're suboptimal. Sure it's often used to mean "shitty", but the real meaning is just "it could be better". And that it could.
As humans continue to multiply at around 83 million annually, we will see things like pandemics, famine, war, genocide, effects from climate change more and more. We either get control of our population or work together to become a space faring race or just fight each other for resources until we kill a bunch of ourselves off.
It's suboptimal because.. This is The Bad Place! padum tss
@@willritter4076 Living in a cave is also suboptimal, unless you're comparing it to living in San Francisco.

Laura Martin his 'depressing' English upbringing
He actually WAS a failed comic in the UK. You should hear his appearance on Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee. He told about a show he did that started with like 4 people in the crowd and everyone walked out on his set.

Well it's more complicated than that... When you get into youtube. From the start you are the cast, crew, camera, editor, etc...
Where as these big t.v. companies who hire lawyers and highly educated college graduates, hire a highly educated cast. A cast educated in entertainment NOT in video production. These dang Zoomers are just too dang snuggly with lady technology.
it’s refreshing to see john oliver candidly and see that he’s still just as funny irl without a writers room
He was on a hilarious podcast for years called "The Bugle". There are tons of great natural banter in there. The podcast is still going with other guests, and the host Andy is amazing too. Look for really early episodes in the feed. Early as in 7-8 years ago. I'm sure fans of this clip would like it. It is available on every large platform.

@Jeremy Knaack Oh I absolutely agree; the funniest I ever saw John was when he was on Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee.

I love how John Oliver just doesn’t take himself too seriously, and can laugh at himself. I guess he can, given how he has basically won, and I’m so happy for him.
He gets to make a show about essentially whatever topic he fancies at that time and whose profit model is utterly inscrutible, while making a decent amount of money doing so. Yeah, as comedian gigs go these days, he's absolutely won.

Reports dating back as far as 2010 talking about splicing the genome and in 2015 mixing sars with bats. Italian MSM report raising concerns over the corona bioweapon being tested in bio labs. They use the MSM to blame Trump and democrats on the spread of the virus to keep citizens divided on the issue when it's world governments and a select few at the top of the chain of command who have ordered this virus to spread around the world. MSM/WHO slowly rolled out the pandemic and anyone with a little common sense and memory should realize how obvious it is. G20/G7 countries gave the manufacturing contracts to China to mass produce medical supplies and pharma with little regulations. China burned down the medical supply factories before they released the Wuhan bat soup corona covid 19 bioweapon. Than China sent 5 million of their citizens around the world for the chinese new year knowing they were infected. G20/G7 countries USA/Australia/Canada . . . medical suppliers sent back 90% of the medical supplies to China to help China fight the virus. So i think that pretty well says this is a globalist released bio weapon designed to destroy the economy and usher in a one world government. They chose China as the place to release the virus because they know nothing can be done about it in a communist run country. The cure will be a effort from multiply countries, select few will drop bread crumbs to find the cure which will be the perfect cover up. The citizens world wide will get the dirty vax while the 1% will get the clean vax. Your children will be stairel and who knows how many other side effects will come alone with the virus and the cure. This is a war crime on humanity and nothing can are will be done about it.

I bet Mrs. Oliver will be pointing out that prioritization to John for the next foreseeable while.
That order is objectively correct
I am assuming that he listed them in descending order regarding the mess that they can make.
In order of least likely to desert you in a crisis.
@@tommo3190/home/home
Well, not entirely. It would have been correct if John would have mentioned at least one cat before mentioning the dog. :-)
(The little one of my two moggies is currently eyeing me pretty close, so I have to be extra careful what to wri-- OW!)
@LivingInVancouverBC
JO's wife (in a _very_ icy tone): "John, did you _really_ just mention our dog _and_ our children before mentioning me?"
JO (blushing): "Err... actually, that was just me showing my appreciation for you, my darling. I just wanted to save the best for last."
JO's wife (slightly sarcastic): "Nice save, John."
Can we get at least 30 min of this every day? The quarantine then wouldn’t be in vain.
I need all the old Daily Show correspondents just doing casual collabs with each other. SOMEONE FIND CARREL!
I find myself laughing at this more than at either of their regular quarantine shows now, because they're not playing for an audience. There's no uncomfortable silence where a laugh track is supposed to be for a meh quality joke. Here, they can actually play off of each other and make each other laugh. Quality content.
Oh wow this is my favorite interview oh my gosh, no awkwardness, just two funny friends chatting, giving me laughs I desperately need
Not all heroes wear capes, some wear glasses
Some wear both, though not at at the same time.
Make this a T-shirt!!
That and no shoes.
Most do actually. Superman does at least.
LOL and can't say: shit, Fuck, dick, and (I just learned) penushead. lol
"Again, I have a 4 year old and a one year old.... I'm drowning, Stephen." TRUER WORDS HAVE NE'ER BEEN SPOKEN, JOHN. Hang in there, brother!
It gets better but beware: then they become teenagers.
Yep I keep reminding myself I’m glad this wasn’t happening 15 years ago lol
My God this is every parent rn isn't it. My kids both interrupted my team meeting this morning.
@@amandastinson2024

'This is one I wish I could use but I'm never allowed to: [BEEP].'
'What- you're not allowed to use [BEEP]?'
'No, can't use [BEEP].'
'CBS, come on.' X'D
@Sebastiaan Joosten taking a guess? probably a word that is /technically/ profane, but that we're desensitized to.
I don't know why but I thought it was dick...
@@RaysofLight98 definitely taint
I wonder if CBS would still censor them if they both would just say "beep" the whole time instead of using actual expletives. :-)
jonnnnniej It wasn’t “dick” because a couple nights ago Stephen called Trump a dick, and wasn’t censored.
“I’m drowning, Stephen.” Every parent at home with young kids right now. Me included.
if the little ones seem like a challenge, imagine having a few male teens and no school till the end of the year :}
truth
Jim Gaffigan once landed a joke that was something like "If you want to know what it's like to have a 4th child, imagine you're drowning...
And then someone hands you a baby."
lol hang in there
Corvus Strigiform : I watched Jim Gaffigan a few times before I had children, and found him funny. Watching him now that I have three kids, he is HILARIOUS.
Durox Kilo : You have my deepest sympathies. My three are all in elementary school.
I did not realize that john oliver recorded from home...
I wanna see the dog
@Black Rod I think the second piece about coronavirus was from there, but the latest one was indeed shot in his house
He lives in a white empty void full of sad facts.
I’m stunned that Mr Oliver has clothes that aren’t a suit.
The Daily Beater
🤗
I truly adore the *REALNESS* of these late night hosts at home...
Baby spit-up & Peanut-butter on your sweat pants while explaining the show ‘OctoNauts’ to Stephen Colbert, who had his daughter do his makeup ...
*Yes* !!
This is the REAL-REAL life we all know.
They didn’t welcome us into “their world”... they welcomed us into their *HOME* ✨🙏🏻✨😉😌
Alternative title: “Two adult toddlers discover webcams”
Uses his suit to portray that he is in better "control" than John, during this crisis, then later hikes his bare foot up to the camera...Bwahahahahaha!
...that was highlight of the show
His foot was cleaner than mine!
@@moonbeamchaos wash them regularly, 20 seconds at least, use soap. Haven't you heard about the rules!? ;)
Well let's see… socks and shoes cover very little of thr whole body, while a suit even while sitting looks professional, it was funny, but I'll give the points to Stephen.
😭😅😂😂
I’ve never before heard an interviewer ask their guest “how’s your personal hygiene?” 😂
Get you a partner who can smile at you the way these two smile at each other's jokes.
Loved that “Swim to me peasants “ remark on David Geffen’s boat! LMAO
This genuinely feels like a Skype call between friends...
it actually just is
Which is why it is so amazing
So this is how unrehearsed interviews go...Must say quite refreshing especially with these two
The crowd IS loving this mashup of comedy daddies.
I love how done John is, me too buddy. “I’m a 4 on a scale of 0-50” ME TOO BUDDY ME TOO
Thank you, from a confined human in Morocco. This brightened my day.
"I'm wearing a suit... but I'm not wearing shoes." 😂😂😂😂 lmfao
I bet that the feet fanatics went crazy there
Old media guys finding out how new media guys feel. Stuff like Markiplier not wearing pants while streaming, etc. XD
Things are on a downhill trajectory: by next day, he wasn't wearing pants.
(And to prove it he showed us, while his wife was distracted)
Twitch would ban this video for those feet.
@@RNCHFND They are really nice
That boat is a physical embodiement of “Let them eat cake."
Lmao 😂
Somwhere out there right now is a guy in a frigade with finger hovering over missile launch button thinking to himself "How about sunk the rich guy for 500"
Social distancing with 45 or more crew members lol yup he can have his cake, he has staff for that.
Jakub Mike b8.... hit
I love how even after the Diamond Princess was a huge disaster and they were like “this seems like a good idea, another floating Petri dish waiting to explode.”
8:25 Before I tell stories, I go through the story in my head; basically run a simulation of telling it. In the most perfect scenario, the audience listens like how Stephen is listening to John’s story here. What a genuine person. This is why I love Stephen.
"Don't panic. I can feel you're panicking."
Has this person ever met John Oliver before?
It's his secret, Cap. He's always panicking!
"I don't have time to learn Spanish and how to make the perfect profiterole... I'm drowning here!" Thank you for repping the 70% of us who can't relate to all this "boredom" talk. Some of us are juggling building a home office overnight while keeping kids off of the Zoom call as we attempt to find the unmute button, and act like this is all sooooo easy and routine. We're all expected to keep going without skipping a beat, and project some completely false sense of normalcy!
In theory (if not in practice) you have the exact same amount of time as you did before, except your travel time is now 100% your own. That can be hours every week that was previous spent driving, or standing in the train or however else you might travel to work.
@@OriginalPiMan Building a working routine in a 'leasure' environment takes up a lot of my time, tho. And the lack of commuting means that I don't have that forced way to disconnect from work. So, I am not drowning, but I do feel like I have no time to relearn old skills or to discover new ones that are not work related.
Yeah, I'm working from home so I've only really gained the 5 hours a week I spend commuting. Even my coworkers are asking what we've been doing with the extra time for some reason 🙄
On the plus side, though, I've still got a job and am getting paid even if they're currently deferring 20% of my pay while the economy struggles. There are other people in the company who can't work from home who are making only 75% of their normal salary and won't be paid back the difference. Things could be worse
try building a home office with like no stores open bro, and consider the fact that everyone is trying to get the same stuff from the stores that are actually open
Yes! Some of my self-employed friends are posting stuff like "here's 100 shows you can binge-watch right now" and I'm like "I can't, I'm working 9 to 5, just from home".
Colbert relaxed and not full of himself around someone who’s known him so long
Its nice to see these larger than life persons as ordinary human beings, going through what we are all going through!
