It's things like this that really lend credibility to everything Meghan said.
Meghan said some howlers though
1. Security isn't tied to titles
2. Archie would not be the first grandchild of a monarch not to be titled Prince/Princess (See Edward's Children)
3. Harry says his dad cut the off when in January he said he wanted financial independance on his website
4. Titles are governed by a monarch's letters' patent. A monarch has the right to change that at any time.(She seriously said 'Who are they to deny him his birthright?'!)
5. Archie is not currently eligible to be a prince.
6. Harry and Meghan published a website full of plans they hadn't negotiated with the Queen that then later had to be hashed out at Sandringham. Yet they say they didn't blindside her
7. Harry complains that being a Prince is to be trapped and Meghan complains their child isn't a Prince
8. Prince Charles has been actively trying to slim down the monarchy for decades, Archie isn't being made an example of
9. Meghan says her passport was taken as if she was held prisoner but then went on numerous foreign holidays
10. Meghan says they 'got married' three days before the church ceremony in their back yard. No marriage is legal without witnesses or taking place in a permanent structure like a church or a town hall
What is true is that these are human beings prone to human failings in a gilded cage where everything they say and do is scrutinised and their freedom is curtailed by the security Harry wanted to keep.
@JUSTIN KLUESNER EXACTLY!
@@04nbod okay. beach weddings are a thing though. And it's not a "permanent structure"
@@medealkemy Witnesses OR...
@@04nbod 1) meghan was told security is tied to the title. 2) we were told Edward and sophie chose not to have titles (did they?) 3) working towards financial independence and stepping back from their senior roles --> not abandoning all their duties. 4) I would be offended that the monarch would choose not to give the title, when it has been previously granted to the children unless the parents chose not to. If meghan had wrong idea about this I wonder why no one explained when the decision was made. she was left to believe that the rule was changed just then and there. and then the palace claimed harry and meghan did not want titles for archie which was false.
5. but he would be when charles became king and prince george, princess charlotte and prince lois weren't eligeble to become princes either.
6. i don't remember them putting up any website until late last year. they had a small statements and you have no knowledge what was talked with queen or charles." After many months of reflection and internal discussions, we have chosen to make a transition this year in starting to carve out a progressive new role within this institution," they said in a statement. "We intend to step back as 'senior' members of the Royal Family and work to become financially independent, while continuing to fully support Her Majesty The Queen."
7. harry does think he was trapped in Royal family, and meghan was rightly offended that her son was not to be treated the way that grandchildren of kings have been treated.
8. well they did bloody bad job of explaining it to harry and meghan and the punlic. Besides, the palace should have told to the public it was charles's choise not to give Archie titles, if they think that was nothing controversial about that. Now it looks it was just because archies mixed heritage
9. Her passport was handled by the palace workers who also deal with customs. No royal carries their passports or keyes. I can see how that made her feel furter like a prisoner.
10. she said they had a ceremony before the royal wedding "for just two of us". i thought it was obvious she didn't mean the legal sense married, but in emotional sense. I wonder why people made a fuss about it. people redo wedding vows multiple times, they have blessings etc. to me that seemed a sweet thing.

Everybody: here after Oprah
Me: over here thinking how creepy it is that the Royal Family not only learned nothing from Diana's death, BUT seems they just don't care either
How would they care if it might've been an inside job.
They did learn from Diana's death though. First of all, Harry was allowed to marry Meghan to begin with. A Commoner 30-something American Divorcee. Remember Diana was a 19 year old Virgin daughter of Earl Spencer. They thought Diana would get it because of her position in life and her youth would mean no one to come out the woodwork with salacious stories about her past.
I don't think the Royals are 100% to blame here. Harry himself said their relationship went very quickly. Meghan hadn't lived in England a year before the engagement. I think there was a clash between Meghan's expectations and reality
My favourite bit about all of this is Harry's basically "Y'all didn't learn, I'm out!" reaction to the whole thing.
No, people like this cannot grow to be better. They can only hurt others because of their dysfunctionality.
Also bear in mind that the royals were thought to have gone thru a "Strangers on a Train" (Hitchkock) moment where it was thought that Andrew Parker Bowles escaped being murdered as Diana was. Two widowed people being more eligible to remarry into the royal family than two divorced persons, mind you.
This clip has to be in their documentary.
"It's weird to kneel in front of another adult." So real.
John was so correct about this that Harry and Meghan said 'nah, we out.' I hear Canada is lovely most of the year. Good for them.
Well, he's watched her in action for years....he warned him....he knew what she was about.
CarriUSA sorry - just so I totally understand your reply - are you one of those people who think Meghan is to blame for this? One of those people who somehow forgot that Harry hasn’t exactly conformed to the royal standard basically his whole life?

John Oliver: Best joke in the interview
audience: crickets
John Oliver was remarkably prescient about the outcome of the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, wasn’t he? They didn’t get divorced...but they divorced themselves from the Royal Family.
His great great uncle (the Queen's uncle) did almost the EXACT same thing, except he also abandoned the throne to do it. Spent less than one year as king, married Wallis Simpson (American divorcée) the year after and moved to France after the war, both stayed there until their deaths.
At least Harry didn't abandon the throne.
Karrie Dee I see what you are implying about Meghan Markle-which is both uncalled-for and, depending upon the motivation, possibly racist. What I don’t get is your smearing of John Oliver’s wife; she’s a former US Army combat medic who served with the 1st Cavalry Division and was deployed overseas and just happened to meet Oliver by chance (before he had his own show, let alone US citizenship)-how exactly does that make her a “gold-digger?”
@@cmconley33 You know you speak truth and hit a nerve when the commenter you’re responding to deletes their comment. Good job.

@@sjs9698 I mean you say he'd love to not have your colonial past hanging over you but the whole wealth of your country came form that colonial past. And let's be honest you would not give that away right? And again we are talking about a country like the UK that fought against Hitler for the longest and is one of the main reasons the world doesn't speak German. Still it was so hypocritical of the British to speak about freedom when they still controlled half of Africa, India and even some of Europe. And not to mention the way they left, making the situation so bad that half the conflicts we have today in the world are because of the British.
John Oliver and Taika Waititi are the only ones who do this. Everyone else in Hollywood especially in the UK parade KOHINOOR diamond like it's their effing property when in reality they effing STOLE IT FROM INDIA!! STOP PARADING IT and GIVE IT BACK TO INDIA! FUCK ROYAL FAMILY!
India’s not so good now, massive poverty, greedy billionaires who pay no tax. No public health, no education. When I go out there I take 500 pens & buy notebooks for schoolchildren of fishermen because they don’t have any. Government buy expensive trains that only 1% can afford to travel on. Still think Raj that bad?
John Oliver is a well informed, smart, know the history, know the culture of Britain and know exactly what he’s talking about! I love this guy! People always saying he predicted the life of Meghan but I disagree, he concluded base on facts. Royals don’t want change, the only thing that permanent in this world
These "prophecies" said by Colbert and Oliver were 100% more accurate than the prophecies said by evangelicals.

'Emotionally stunted, fundamentally flawed people doing a pseudo-job' ......love this guy !
“Do you think that’s got my invitation back”
I’ve watched this interview at least 5 times and that part kills me every time. It’s the look on his face right before he says it😂
John Oliver has never sounded more condescendingly English than when he said: “That’s what Trump took away from his France trip. Their awesome military.”
At least they weren't talking about the Italian military. The great record in the 1930s of the only modern European army to be defeated by a bunch of blokes with spears. There Navy faired no better.
Dang. I'm condescendingly British too, then.
I literally read your comment after he said that 🤣
@@richardbeeston1170 Dont forget Isandlwana 1879.
John was correct, though.
Gosh he hit the nail right in the head about the Meghan marriage. Emotionally stunted.
Are you from the Philippines or have relatives that live/lived there?
Its sad because he was trying to warn her and he just got laughed at.
Laughed with. And he _sortakinda_ tried to warn her. He was just worried about Meghan turning out like Diana. And then those fears turned out to be accurate.
The first thing that struck me after Harry and Megan's interview is how bloody accurate John was.
Those two staring into the camera is priceless.
Looking back now, John Oliver was spot on his warning to Meghan Markle!
He hit the nail on the head! The fact that people were laughing about ‘emotional complications’ 🤦🏾♀️
Two things:
1) I love how this is from February 2018 and all of the comments are from last week
2) Everything John Oliver says ages so gracefully
who else is watching after today's Meghan Harry Oprah Interview?
@@pambrown6260 And yet you're here. Weird. 🙄
Pam Brown but you were here 😂 that means you are interested ha ha
Praying for them especially Meghan this People are dangerous.
I was just enjoying the opening... remember hugs?
@@tiffanycrystalclear obviously we are. Your the one claiming your not but are here we’re here and claiming we are. I know for a fact I’m interested in anything that makes me not bored for 5 mins. Soooo
Someone needs to get all the late night talk show hosts in a room.😂🤣
That happened once, people called it "The Late Night Fight: Conan vs Colbert vs Stewart." It was GLORIOUS!
Chuck PK We also need kimmel, Oliver, corden and Noah.
as long as fallon doesnt show up :)
kuroholic Maybe Meyers shows up though.
And then what?
John Oliver truer words were not spoken. Emotional complications, so true. Now they live in California and are happy and living a great life.
About Meghan, the difference is that Harry is standing by her side.
This wasn't any foreseeing or predicting the future. John's lived most of his life in the uk, he knows what kind of journalism they have there and how the royal family is
which is how that foresight manifests. he knows his shit so it becomes predictable.
nothing mystical ofc, but it's easy to see how shit'll go when you're broadly aware of history &c
How accurate John Oliver's prediction was, almost two years ago! This is genius!
Even more so now....
Such an intelligent comedic interview...spot on with the Meghan Markle saga.
Jonn Oliver is an underemployed Nostradamus.
Meghan talk starts at 4:41, in case you are here after the Oprah interview
Thank you
"It's just weird to kneel in front of another adult." Couldn't agree more with that.
The commentary about Meghan Markle has aged like fine wine...
Seriously John Oliver like a wizard who can see the future, man he got this dead right..I remember watching this interview at that time I thought he was overreacting but boy he got that right
5:08 the truth kicks off.
Not really. Diana Spencer went through the same treatment. So unfortunately this was highly predictable.
IN the beginning he said "back to the future" lmfao
Not really, a lot of people have either run away or ended up dead marrying into that dysfunctional family
I thought something similar. I thought the press would be worse for her than the family itself... Wel, here we are.
I would hail John Oliver for his almost prophetic words, but all us knew in our hearts that something of that sort was going to happen.
John Oliver looks like a soothsayer now .His warning to Meghan was spot on.😵💫
"They're all nice now, right?"
"...........yeah."
OMG Meghan should have listened to John Oliver, watching this after the Oprah interview.
as she told Oprah...She does not or did not google her husband...hehehe..
@@marigolddeleon4564 I'm mystified that that comment has gotten so much disbelief. Why would she have Googled someone she'd heard of and was introduced to by a mutual friend? Most people I know Google randos they meet to be sure they aren't married or wanted for murder.
Well, it turned out all ok. She got her prince and her civilian life in California.
Damn, John was *not* pulling punches here, lol.
Has he ever pulled any punches?
Last time John dared Trump to do something, it didn't work out so well.
ua-cam.com/video/HlHo-F1z_aw/v-deo.html
Maybe he should just stop acting so high and mighty and humble himself a bit. Kiss the ring bitch
Johnny B Yes, we all know you do enough kissing of the ring to speak from experience
+Samuel McCallister
I'm a big fan of his, so I've seen him be sharp and cutting before, but usually it's not as concentrated as it is here lol
+Johnny B
Why would he humble himself again? Because it sounds like you're saying "John shouldn't be sharp and incisive because sometimes he overestimates the intelligence of Americans and assumes that they wouldn't go all in for a blithering moron"...
“He’s an emotional vacuum and of course he’ll die that way “
HE CALLED IT! We should have LISTENED! Meghan: you should have listened, girl
Perhaps.....but love and hope..ya know.
John Oliver is my all time favorite. The way he just described the royal family felt like a huge slam but really, it’s just accurate. Which in turn, makes it hilarious.
