- Best Bucket Hat Ever Crochet Tutorial / It is Finally "Soon" 😉
It's finally here! I have been wearing this bucket hat in many of my recent videos, and soooo MANY of you have asked me when it is coming out.
I have told all of you "soon".
Well, it is "SOON" today - it is finally here!
Cute, easy to make, perfect for a long-time crocheter and easy enough for the beginner. What a cool hat!
VERY beginner friendly and super fun to make.
You really only need to know Single Crochets and a Magic Circle (Magic Ring) to make it - but I show you the easy way to do that as well! Right here:
• Help! How Do I Crochet...
*************
At round 11 (72 stitches) your circle should have a diameter of approx 4.5-5 inches.
At round 16 (100 stitches), your diameter should be about 6.5 inches.

Ciao friends! If you are so inclined, you can now buy me a coffee. It really helps the channel, and I could use the caffeine, so thanks! 😉 www.buymeacoff...

I love this hat. The tutorial is fantastic and I've made 3 of them since finding this video. Thank you.
You are so welcome Phyllis! That makes me so happy!! Bethany
Dear is the brim straight or its like floppy
@@yannie1312it’s straight.
Mine came out children’s size but I think it’s because of the yarn I used. Very cute and easy to follow tutorial!
Did you use a 3mm hook? Or a 5?
Finally found a tutorial that was easy to follow as a novice and achieved the “bucket hat” look I was searching for . Instant follow!
I am so pleased by that Ieisha! Welcome and thanks for letting me know - it makes my day! Bethany

Thanks 🎉 Do you know the counts for the rows that she doesn’t say? 4=30; 5=?; 6=42; 7=?; 10-13??
Thankyou!❤
First time watching and instantly subscribed. Great tutorial!👍👍
I made many hats thanks 🙏 and they turned very beautiful.
It took me 2 days but i finally finished and you were very easy to follow. Thanks
I just found your channel and this wonderful bucket hat! I used LB 24/7 cotton, and it turned out great! Thank you so much for sharing this pattern with us.😊
So, I want this style hat.. but, the body between the flat top and brim, I'd REALLY like entrelac squares.
Just made this hat. It is super cute! I used Hobby Lobby variegated and a G hook- easy to follow and turned out great. Thank you!!
Beautiful hat. Thanks for sharing...😍
Love this can’t wait to make me one thanks you for sharing this beautiful hat
Love it. Need to make it for my granddaughter.
Thanks Carlann! She will love it, I promise! Bethany
Thanks i finally showed my daughter and she made a bucket hat
I loved watching your easy to follow tutorial, I subscribed right away🎉
Thank you for sharing!
Thanks for subbing Erica!
Very very cute❤
Great hat, thanks for doing the tutorial xxx
Thanks for sharing. I wasn't paying attention and was adding in some extra increases and well it sorta came out with a ruffle rim. Still looks cute but gonna make another one but I will keep track of the increases.
I love watching your tutorials. You are very patient. I am making this hat for my son. When he was watching this video he fell in love with the yarn that you are using. I am making this bucket hat to match a pair of pants that I am also crocheting. The pants have multiple individual colors. When making this hat, how can I change colors?
Please help me!
This is the second (2nd) of your tutorials that I have used.
Thanks for the tutorial.
The best bucket hat pattern ever❤
Thanks Phyllis! Bethany
Love your bucket hat pattern. I’m not a fan of the hexagons effect either. Thank you. New subscriber!
Love love love your energy!!!!
beginner friendly, i made my second one already! muchas gracias!
hi! what size yarn and hook did you use? thanks!
Love it!! Thanks so much for sharing! ❤😘😊
Hi Tia!
You’re so cute! I love how excited you were the whole project and it’s super nice and easy to follow the whole video. Working on the top of mine now 😊
Thank you so much!! I love this hat!
Thank you❤
Great pattern great viedo thank you!❤
Awesome tutorial!! Thanks
You're welcome Victoria!
It would be helpful to measure the top of the hat so we can check the gauge. That way if the circle is too big or small we can change the hook size;I am making it now , I don’t want to 🐸 if it’s too big ?
I like the easy peasy expression ❤️
Is the hat that you are wearing the same like the one that you are crocheting, because it looks bigger especially the brim ? Thanks
Thanks!
Gotta make this hat!! So cute ☺️ tell me is this yarn a lightweight number 4???? Good job on your tutorial! 😃 ✌🏼
It is a Medium 4 Lana
Thank you! ☺️
Im confused 😵💫 after the row with 14 stitches in between increases we jump straight to 23 stitchs in between increases? Please help 🙏🏼 thank you 😊
That’s correct. It works. Row 16s pattern is 23 sc, sc inc (repeat) because we only need to increase four stitches. They’re spread out around the hat on four equal places making the stitch count 100.
Last week I was visiting your virus stitch tutorials again. I wanted to add more rows to the blanket I made. Played this normal speed for support.
Thanks Verna - Happy Easter!
Would love to know how you made your hat you have on. Thanks for all your great tutorials
Many thanks! I have been looking for a pattern for a nice sturdy bucket hat! Subscribing now! (By the way, you have wonderful camera presence!) Happy Holidays!
So this hat fits a 6.5 in.head what about someone who has a 7-7.5 in ?, would you still increase after row 15 like you did for the other rows? I need to make a hat for someone with a 23 1/2 in head measuring around 💜thanks in advance if you see this, I love your work 💜💜
Also can you use a 4mm needle?
Thank you. Im a new subscriber i love ur channel already.🙏🏾
Awesome! Thank you! Welcome to my channel Kanika! Bethany
I LOVE THIS HAT! Could you tell me what size head it fits? Thank you!
Hi Toni! It is about 22" - an average adult woman.
@@ThimbleHooks - Thank you!
The hat that you’re wearing, what row did you start with the green?
That’s what I want to know too 😑
Is there a print version of this? I just finished my first one and it’s not only easy to make, but comfortable. Wanted to do this if I had no internet wherever I crochet. Thank you
Is there a tutorial on the hat you are wearing in this video?
Just found you video, working on the hat. Where did you find the larger stitch markers?
Why does your hook say 5 after all of this time? I used a 3, which was very hard to use. I didn’t see 3 as in 3mm… am I not seeing this clearly @23:45???
I would like the top to not pucker as it’s too wide, I guess, and the hook deal… I went to the store to get a size 3 hook, and there was no such thing.
I love this video!! Please tell me what brand hook you’re using.❤
Love this hat ❤ just wondering if it will be too hot for those hot days. Would it work up nice in a cotton yarn too ❤ I'm in Love with the colors Of the one You're wearing ❤❤ God Bless from Northwestern Ontario Canada 🇨🇦
You really get hot days in North Ontario? 😉
Cotton could work Marie, but it won't hold it's form as well. Perhaps doubling the cotton would work better. Thanks for the question! Bethany
@@ThimbleHooks Thank you so much ❤ I was looking at My LYS and seen Handcrafters by Bernat and it seemed stiffer than most. Going to give it a try. Thanks again for Your Inspiration. God Bless ❤
Love it😊
That makes me happy Susan! 😃 Happy Thanksgiving! Bethany
thank you for the tutorial! question: i have waist-long locs which i stack on top of my head when it's hot.. how would i go about to make mine open at the top to fit over my "top-knot"?
Is there a way to make a hat with this shape but bigger stitches? Single crochet just takes me too long but I love the shape of this
Hi Simlom! I have tried this hat many ways, and the SC is the only one that keeps this particular shape. I do have lots of other bucket hat tutorials posted - check those out, perhaps one of those would fit your needs. Bethany
Is your white hat the same pattern?
Did you do color control ????
Just found a video and I like to know where did you get your yarn from because I would like to make my hat and those colors also❤❤❤❤
Is it possible to use cotton yarn to make bucket hats especially for the spring and summer? If yes should the yarn be doubled? It is 4 weight cotton that I purchased from hobby Lobby
Nice like it.
Thanks for liking Debra! Beth
I get confused from when we are going in the rounds and then we working on the body of the hat. I don’t know when to switch where I’m doing my stitch outward vs inward. I’m on the brim part and it’s throwing me off!
Can i do a sl st instead of continuing
Where do I buy that particular wool please xx
I have a question not related to the hat but to the spiral interlac. I hope it’s ok to ask you here as I’ve been looking for an email but couldn’t find it! So here is my question; would it be possible to make a square edge on my spiral Interac blanket? If so, could you show how to do it? I really enjoy making this type of blanket and you really explain so clearly. I also made a couple c2c interlac that turned out pretty nice thanks to your great instructions. Thank you
Hi Pauline the Italian!
Check this out:

😊😂😉👍
I have 10 things in my Entrelac Playlist...So far... Bethany
I looked at all of them, but only find edges for horizontal or c2c types. I’m wondering if I can make a square border on a spiral blanket? I just don’t know how to go about it or if it’s even possible! Thank you for your previous reply!
I'll have to put some thought into that Pauline. Anything is possible, but I haven't put my head around that one yet...
@@ThimbleHooks thank you! I know if someone can figure it out, you can!! Keep up the good work. I love watching you. You explain very well and funny to booth!!
At what point does it start to Look like a Hat? Im at row 19 and its still a circle.? Im gonna keep going but Im ..NERVOUS ..Im thinking its just gonna be a BIG CIRCLE...TRUSTING THE PROCESS THO'..REALLY TRUSTING IT..
maybe my dyslexia is on high drive....but i am having a tough time fully grasping the staggering out.... deep sigh.
Hi! My youngest daughter is dyslexic, so I get that...
On this video watch from 7 minutes to 8 1/2 minutes. That is where I explain it first.
You can also see the same technique on my video here:

Do you have a written pattern for this bucket hat?
Hi Just joined and was wondering if there is a print out that I can buy as I'm an older adult and can't remember the increases, would like to make the bucket hat for my granddaughters. Thank you for a reply. Carol Delfino
Very beautiful, they can’t keep the rainbow color on the shelf…
How many inches is the top flat part of the hat?
6.5” diameter is her gauge
Hi, this is amazing, thank you! What wool is the best to use please, I used double knit and it's not very sturdy, thanks 😊
Hi Marcia! I just used a 4 weight yarn with a much smaller hook than the yarn label recommended. That did the trick for me, and it holds it's shape! Bethany
@@ThimbleHooks thanks for getting back to me Bethany. Is 4 weight yarn called something different in the UK, I've not heard of that you see x
4 Weight is also called "Medium" - perhaps that will help Marcia.
I am not sure if you have Red Heart Super Saver yarn in the UK, but if so that would be the weight you need.
I found the below site online - it looks like perhaps you might call it "Aran"... I hope this helps!
www.gathered.how/knitting-and-crochet/knitting/knitting-yarn-and-needle-conversion-charts/#yarn%20weight%20chart
@@ThimbleHooks ah yes, we do have aran, thanks so much for going to the trouble of finding it for me 🥰 take care Bethany x
It was my pleasure Marcia - Welcome to my ThimbleHooks "family"!
Which rounds did you change colors for the stripe hat you were wearing during the video?
Ok, everyone. I zoomed in on the hat she’s wearing and it looks like the stripes are six rows (2 green, 2 red, 2 green) just before row 32.
So it would be:
Row 26 and 27: green
Row 28 and 29: red
Row 30 and 31: green
I’ll verify and let y’all know for certain.
I did everything you said right and used a 3mm hook with a medium weight yarn and it’s so small it can’t even fit over my head. I’m so disappointed I did everything exactly the same and it’s child sized
That sounds like a tension issue to me. I have made dozens of these, and as you can see in the video, it fits a grown woman just fine. I have never had anyone tell me that theirs turned out to small, but I did have someone once tell me that it fit her husband it was so big. Just need to adjust your tension Beth
@@ThimbleHooks I’m still fairly new to crocheting (about 6 months practice) and I’m not great at adjusting tension. Would you recommend sizing up to a 3.5mm hook if I can’t adjust my tension correctly? Thank you for responding
Hi! Practice this to verify/adjust your tension: At round 11 (72 stitches) your circle should have a diameter of approx 4.5-5 inches.
At round 16 (100 stitches), your diameter should be about 6.5 inches.
Work towards that, and it will be right on.
The 3 1/2 mm might help, but you will need to practice with that as well.
Hope that helps! Bethany
I've made 4. I have a question about another hat. Can you make a shelly hat or a ruffle hat?
I'll have to look into those Phyllis. I don't have a pattern for either, but that doesn't mean much...! 😃
What size yarn and hook???
Hi there sorry im lost on row 5.i have 30 stiches from round 4. But the sequence for round 5 is not working for me,i take it im doin it rite with sc,sc,inc,sc,sc,sc,sc,inc.
Please help.are u only doin the sc x2, inc at the begining and at the end of row?then in middle its sc x4,inc
that is correct! you do sc, sc, increase and then sc, sc, sc, sc, inc. at the end, you will only have two sc left. that will make the first two sc and the inc actually four sc and an increase
Would this work with hdc?
Could you tell me the size of this crown after all the increases are completed?
Hi Doreen! This info is in the description. I give you 2 different spots to check your work. Bethany
Thank you!
How can I shorter the hat? Row 37 is at my eyes.
Hi Monique! Did you catch the part in the video where the yarn I used asked for a 5 1/2 hook but I used a 3mm? It sounds like maybe that didn't happen.
I bet you can just finish off the hot now. Just jump to row 42 and finish - see if that works! Bethany
Do you have a pattern for the hat you are wearing? I love it
Coming soon Yanira, but I show you everything you need to know in this tutorial. I am so pleased that you like my hat! Bethany
@ThimbleHooks what rows did you add the color 😊?
This particular yarn skein comes that way...
What size hook would you use if making for a man?
I am not really sure Muriel as I never design anything for a man. Perhaps go up one hook size...?
It depends on the man, but I’m using a D hook (3.25mm) and it’s going to fit.
@@ThimbleHooks This hat can be universal.
@@jjbing3Thank you
It came out too big for my head because I don’t have any hair! 😑. Imma have to drop down to like a B hook. 🤔
After 14 do we do a row of 15 of just go right into the 23sc?
Hi Jay - I am watching that video right now. I don't understand your question, but go to 16 mins 30 seconds and watch again closely. Hopefully that is what you are asking... I have had hundreds of people make this pattern and have never had a question like that... Bethany
I'm stuck here too, I just don't get it 😕 did you work it out in the end?
@thimbleHooks I get her question, because I was wondering the same thing. You said in the video 2SC after every 14th SC. Then you said on roll 15, 2SC in between every 23SC.
Did you make the hat your wearing with this pattern?
Sure did!
@@ThimbleHookswhich row did you start the stripe? 🤔
Rows 4sc plus2 you don’t have the number of stitches 6 sc no count
What weight is that yarn?
Hi again! It is Red Heart Super Saver, so a Medium 4 wt. I am pretty sure I mention this at least once in my video. Bethany
I'm stuck after row 9
Just watch the video closer Lisa, I am confident you will get it!
Did you get it?
