My cousin who saw the show with Amanda in it told me some trivia. Not only did Amanda Balon play the role of Annie at such a young age (8 yrs old I think) on Broadway tour but she also played Molly, Duffy, Kate and I think July (not as a a swing but the actual role) before getting the lead role. She was also the Annie US before she became Annie.
That's probably why she was so great. That's how they did the show back during the original Broadway and tour runs (usually a girl would start playing the younger orphan character and eventually as she got older they groomed her to take over the role of Annie (that's how Shelly Bruce and Sarah Jessica Parker got the roles!)
