Hullo, I know the feeling, I have a BMW Z4M and it is excellent at everything it is supposed to do, but, soul-less. It is also going to be sold shortly and, like you, I find I am more interested in my 2010 110 Defender (and other earlier LBC's-little british cars).
Interesting points ..... and something very close to what I experienced myself recently. I have owned an MR2 for over 10 years and came VERY close to selling a month ago as wanted to get a 370Z Nismo. Eventually I pulled out of the sale because the Nismo just felt like a complete car from the get-go whereas the MR2 has been built and improved over the 10 years ownership. As such, the Nismo just didn't feel like it would be "mine" - despite being a better car in just about every way. So, stuck with the MR2 ....... and also the Defender (which is how first found your channel). Just had the remap done on the TD5 and also have almost all the same mods as your old one (apart from the seats !!)
I have had 4 Porsche 911 , after selling the last one I have tried something new to me, Golf GTI Clubsport , if you have not had a drive in one go and try one.
I haven’t thanks- out of interest what put you off the 911’s to not get another?

I had 2 996 and 2 997, lovey cars but 3 of them had bore scoring and rebuilt, not by me thankfully, my last one had not had any Engine work done , and to be honest it drove perfectly but I all way’s felt like I was on borrowed time with it, a 10 grand plus engine build would of been to much for me to swallow, I had always heard how good Golf’s were and thought what the hell let’s try one, honestly the GTI clubsport 2017 model is so much fun to drive, and cheap to run compared to the Porsche.
Super capable things but so soulless in design I think . I drove a v8 one years ago but can’t really recall it
