Opel corsa is a good car dude, I own a Toyota Corolla 2020 SE edition and I’m happy with this little rocket my dream car is a McLaren P1 GTR or Pagani Zonda R, well just dreaming however it has fact is you feel happy what you drive dude, cheers bro.
I worked at a US Porsche dealer when the first 996 turbo dropped in 2000. Porsche reps came into the office and demanded to see the Purchase and Sale Agreement. They would’ve pulled the franchise if it was sold over list, or we refused to show the paperwork. The times they are a changing….
Corporate greed is at an all time high across all fields of desirable products. Even the high-end PC part market is screwed now because of crap like this. Such a shame. Will only get worse unless there's government intervention to drop the hammer on them and regulate their practices. However, that probably won't happen due to good ol' bribery.
It took just one generation for the average customer to lose his mind. This wouldn't be happening if that wasn't true. The world depicted in the movie Idiocracy arrived almost 500 years early.
Yes but now porsche sells cars aimed at fleet buyers. The Panamera, The Macan, and the Cayenne are all bought as company cars. You probably didn't have people walk in back then and say "I need 20 Panamera for the board members, 15 Cayenne for the upper managment, and 25 macan for the upper middle management thanks" Thats what everyone is forgetting, these guys buying 5 porsche cars for a million and expecting to be up the list, yeah maybe 25 year ago, but now? Do you know what happens if you refuse the guy putting the fleet order through a gtr? he puts his order through with mercedes the next year and phones them up looking for an amg gt coupe and gets it.. Even Lexus did it, a cherry to dangle at the fleet buyers. Watch makers do it. You have to get to car brands that only do sports before having 4 or 5 will get you any sort of way up a list.
I walked into a Porsche dealer in California looking to order just 911S. Salesman didn't even get up from behind the desk and started a conversation with "you know there is a markup." I left without a word. I can afford to buy a new 911, but I will never pay markup on anything.
Wait till a recession. I have the money and love how a Porsche base model 911 looks. in 2020 I was on Porsche's builder and at the end let it look at inventory for a match, which sent my info to the nearest dealer. In 15 minutes Porsche Chicago called. This was during the beginning of pandemic shut down - he would have given me a discount on that car. [edit - Iwo26 - props for handling the disrespect with grace].
A few years ago I went to a Porsche dealership to configure a Targa. The salesman didn't seem at all interested in making a sale and couldn't even be bothered to find out when a slot would be available. I left and didn't come back. Watching videos like this really makes me re-evaluate my attitude towards this brand. Essentially appreciate the engineering and stay well clear of corporate which to me means 2nd hand market only. But I appreciate the pickle people wanting and being able to afford a GT3 find themselves in. It's not good for the brand image if they have to shove cars down people's throats while dangling a carrot in front of their eyes.
can you imagine having to buy some POS low end Porsches then drive it around, then sell it take a loss, only to buy like 9 more POS versions just to get a 240k dollar car in the end LOLOL....Passs!!!!!
@@CrankCyclingChannel Well yeah but it's not really overs though is it. Nobody can actually buy the car at the 'retail' price anywhere ever. The car should just retail at £350K and be done with it, and then everyone can decide if it's worth it vs the competition.
The coffee is free at BMW dealerships lol. I have a used one and get a cup when do my alignment. I'm getting two cups next time because I'm fitting new wider tires and want an alignment after that.
It actually took me almost two thirds of the way through this video to realise that you made this whole video just to show Jayne to convince her that paying over list was the best thing to do. Well played Mark, well played sir...
Either way people need to know how lost the system and big corporations are, they treat the people of the world with contempt, the very people they abuse to slime people's money from
Customers shouldn't have to grovel and beg by paying over MSPR. Consumers have power to vote with their dollars and we can put an end to these practices. Thanks for the video!
But does Porsche also sell hot models through back door in bulk to grey market? Or do you need to check in every 2 weeks and be a simp for the salesperson? If not they still have a lot to learn from Rolex how to properly abuse groveling rich people.
Yea but you gotta wonder why Rolex ADs don't just add dealer markup. It's because Rolex fixes the price at MSRP, so the only way for an AD to squeeze out more money is to put you on a perpetual waiting list unless you buy your new Sub alongside three Datejusts for you, your wife, and your mom. If Rolex and Porsche allowed dealers to markup above sticker, they'd just do that and forget about this buying 10 cars / 10 watches nonsense.
I worked at a used dealership for 2 weeks. 18 yo. My best friend, basically my brother, had just taken his own life. One of the salesmen there saw me crying in my car on lunch break and found out from the boss what happened. This person had been hazing me from hour 1 of working there. He taunted me about my brother. Telling me his sole mission was to make me cry as much as possible -and I won’t repeat any if the things he said to me but think of the worst things possible. Everyone there was an asshole but nowhere near this level of pure evil. Fast forward some years and I’m the AGM of a gourmet market-basically a mini Whole Foods but over-the-top customer service and quality-and guess who walks in the door? My boss, the GM, knew my story and I took her aside and told her this idiot was in our store. She gave me permission to kick him out. I didn’t do it. He was with little ones, what I assumed to be his family including what I assumed to be a human wife; it was holding a baby. I’m not sure he even recognized me. It wasn’t worth giving his smiling, happy children that memory. I shared this because it’s kind of related and I want whoever reading this to do me a favor and go find someone you love, hug them, and tell you how much they mean to you. ❤
Dealerships are just an unnecessary middle man for the most part other than when you want to test drive a vehicle.. You can get cars repaired by third-parties. Look at how large the dealerships are and the amount of employees.. It's just sucking so much money out of the system especially since they get commission. I'd rather just buy a custom spec online and not have to deal with dealerships.
7:20 she is a fantastic sales person and lays out the key points of buying the trade in over building a portfolio in a way that attracts closing the deal so fast. I would have said "Okay you got me" right there.
I go back to basics against these tactics. If a brand does not want to sell me their product at MSRP; they can keep it! If i have to jump through hoops; they can keep it! If i have no freedom to do whatever i want with my property once bought; they can keep it! There is enough cool cars in the world, old AND new, for me to find a way to enjoy myself! Stop the FOMO! To those who do not agree. You do you guys, just be happy with your choices. ^__-
Yes! This is the way. Don't like the game, stop playing. They do this because people still take them up on it. It's really unfortunate because companies could have an expanding customer base if they had methods to entice new people aboard with great products at great prices. If someone came out with a great drivers' car that looked like it cost a million but was really sub-$50K and readily available, they'd sell insane numbers and Porsche, Ferrari, etc. would see their business model cave in.
Imagine our poor man perspective. You have 100+ hot wheels cars, every car you've wanted growing up. Then they come out with a model 2024 911 GT3RS Hotwheel. 😂 since there's only select stores that have them, I'd pay $5, $10, $25, maybe even $50 for it. Just to add to the vast collection I already have. Now think of that with real cars. Now throw in planes, yachts, manions etc. Unfortunately that's the way the cookie crumbles lol. Then you have psychos like the Sultan of Brunei and you have 5-20 of each model of car! And then customs versions of those too lmao. People have too much money!
Finally the truth of the matter. Other UA-camrs fail to acknowledge. They like to pretend they were selected for the cars they lease to prop up their vulnerable egos and appear to make themselves important and special, as if they have a relationship with the manufacturer. Whereby they are in truth just idiots who are so desperate to own the vehicle before anyone else for the pure purpose of boasting in a video 'look what I have because I'm connected'. This is where you stand tall and proud amongst your peers Mark! You don't care what anyone thinks, nor need to portray yourself as special. You tell the truth and expose it for what it is. I for one truly appreciate your honesty and integrity. GREAT VIDEO!
_" wants to buy a car which is only sold to porsche dealers internal and drove with a ford to the porsche contract partner "_ i like to bring the joke in place to the companies
Prime example of the egotistical narcissist youtube "celebrity" is the king of jumpstarting his drag races and sulks like a petulant child, If he doesn't win, Mr 'carMATTwow' himself🤦🏻 You're ten times the genuine person he'll ever be, my friend 🙏🏻
11:13 "They said a better history with buying from us" I see now how these scammers take advantage of people in order to stay in business. These dealerships are run by pure scammers that want you to buy 10 cars from them, take expensive tours, and then backdoor you even after paying a deposit. I'd rather spend that money modifying something easily available and have the same handling and way more HP than anything in those dealerships. Also, you could have spent 1 billion dollars worth of Porshe's in the past from other dealerships, or private sales, but that dont mean anything because it dont help with their current sales quota's for the month. Thats why i believe some people get scammed. They are poor innocent souls just used by these companies in order to keep up with their sales quota's.
So thats why so many people were buying Macans and Cayannes. You could buy it through your business, take the accelerated depreciation on your books and then sell it a year later. All the while building your "Portfolio"
Thank you for finally shedding some light onto this scumbag industry. I waited 9 years, worked hard, saved my money, invested wisely, just to buy a gt3 rs. Walked into the dealership and got laughed out the door by scumbags like this.
Looks like you missed the entire video? Used gt3rs's are being scalped harder than new ones...you gunna pay half a milly for a car that barely retails at a quarter mil>? All the power to you big man!@@AmosDohms
I can't say I feel very sorry for you since the "list" is pretty common knowledge and it seems like you didn't do your homework. If you don't plan to build up a relationship with a dealer, why don't you try buying a 996 GT3 or a 991.1 instead? They're usually cheaper and still retain that "driving purity" (for the 996)
Hey Mark, I just watched your video and couldn't agree more, especially given my recent experience here in the US. I'm an expat residing in San Francisco and have a story that echoes your points, but perhaps even more frustrating. During the Covid pandemic, I set out to purchase a Porsche GT3. Despite my efforts, I couldn't secure it from a Porsche dealership, so I ended up buying it from a local non-Porsche dealer. Keen to establish a relationship with the official service department, I visited the Porsche dealer, letting them know about my GT3 acquisition and expressing interest in a GT3 RS. The response was a bit disheartening, as the representative hinted at the difficulty due to my lack of a "Porsche history" with their dealership. I explained that this GT3 was my seventh 911, though my previous purchases were in the UK. Their insistence on a history with their specific dealership felt somewhat narrow-minded, but I understood their perspective. In a bid to strengthen this nascent relationship, I even purchased a Taycan from them - a fantastic car, by the way. Confident that this might put me in good stead, I asked to be put on the waiting list for the GT3 RS. I had low expectations but was willing to be patient. However, what came next was truly shocking. The representative mentioned that as a new customer, if I were lucky enough to get an allocation for a new car, I'd be required to pay an outrageous premium of $150,000 over the list price. This revelation was astounding and deeply disappointing. The notion of an authorized dealer demanding such a significant markup on a new vehicle was beyond belief. Needless to say, I was livid and expressed my displeasure quite vocally to both the representative and the dealership. Mark, your video didn't touch on this, but another crucial point to consider is the reason behind the limited supply of high-performance models like the GT3 RS. It's not just what Carl mentioned. A significant factor is the stringent emissions targets that manufacturers like Porsche must adhere to. These high-performance models are produced in limited numbers to maintain a balance with their overall vehicle emissions as a manufacturer. This experience and understanding the broader context of car manufacturing has left me deeply disillusioned. It's not just about the scarcity of these models; it's also about the tactics employed by dealerships. Porsche, as a brand, risks being tarnished by such practices. Their dealerships’ approach, especially in demanding unwarranted premiums, not only damages customer relationships but also undermines the brand's integrity. I'm sharing this in hopes that it brings more awareness to these issues and perhaps encourages a change in how these prestigious vehicles are distributed and sold. Thanks for shedding light on this topic, Mark. It's crucial for potential buyers to be aware of these challenges and for manufacturers to recognize the impact of dealership practices on their reputation.
How did you prove your purchase history to the dealership? Verbal or actual paperwork? Also owning multiple can sound like a flipper versus a longtime holder of vehicles.
@@justintoth5440 Lol that guy takes himself so seriously. Dude- you're buying a stupid overpriced car. The middle class can't afford a house, can't afford to have kids, can't afford medical insurance.
Met a bloke who got told he needed to buy 5 Cayennes and 5 Macans he could get one of these. Basically the deal was he would buy 10 cars in December, they would buy the cars back for 10% less in January, then he would be able to buy the car he actually wanted. He went through with the deal and sold the car immediately, still making 100k profit despite taking a bath on the SUVs
Friend of mine bought over 30, yes 30, Ferraris over the last 25 or so years. . He bought the car according to their specs, never drove them, brought them back (got MSRP for them), they sold them as "Pre Owned" and took another guys head off price wise. This went on and on. He always wanted one of their HALO cars but never got one. He finally bought three new ones and sold them himself at a $ 400,000 profit. The dealership was freaking out but he told them to go screw themselves.
not to mention the guy does not see his hipokryccy. His buddy offers him a car under the condition he will buy it back at the same price but no he want's a car that he can make easy money on not the actual car.
@@hagestad His buddy isn't even his buddy lol. He's playing the same game the dealer is. Hes a gray market seller, selling for way over retail. Its the same game with certain Rolex sports models.
This is why I love BMW, they make insane performance vehicles and you can walk right on in and spec out whatever you want, pay for it and pick it up in a few months. My M8 comp has been nothing but bliss.
This isn't an accurate comparison, the M8 Comp isn't a limited-edition car. Try buying an M4 CSL for example, you'll see that it has allocations like the GT3RS does.
Yeah but BMWs break down and there aren't really any good looking BMWs TBH. Don't like BMWs at all, it's in a similar class as mercedes for me. Just older moms driving them basically as a status symbol other than the kids driving the older M3s
A BMW is not a Porsche it’s not even close that’s the problem and like the other comment said if you tried to get a “special” car like the M4 CSL it wouldn’t be the same
@@AJayZy honestly the difference between BMW and Porsche is nowhere as big as you make it sound. You ain't comparing Dacia to Mercedes here. While they have a similar 'drivers cars' ethos, Porsche has a more sporty focus which often means they don't achieve the sophistication that a luxury car needs (see the new 7-series vs Panamera). In fact with many competitive BMW/Porsche models, going to Porsche is often a tradeoff instead of a direct upgrade, especially if you're looking to spend about the same money. Perfect example: I own a Z4 M40i and plan to own a Boxster next. The Boxster GTS is the only model which is an actual upgrade, and it costs significantly more. On top of that, you gotta spend about 10k EUR on top on the leather interior to get a similar interior quality to the Z4, plus the options which are hella expensive with Porsche. Or you could get a Boxster T if you want to stay in the same price area, which honestly is a downgrade in practically every area aside from the raw feel. It's honestly a game of trade-offs, and I'm saying this as someone who prefers Porsche and as someone who drove these cars.
Sounds like car dealerships are taking a page out of the watch industries book. I remember when you could just walk into a dealership and order a 997 GT3 with out any issues.
I was going to say. I'm a modest watch collector and find that I can get very good values in the used market if I stay away from a few brands. That said, I'm not backed up with invitations to black tie affairs because of my Richard Mille collection. At this level of consumption, there has to be more than the thrill of driving the car. I would want to leverage ownership to get membership in a club where they pipe insider trading information into my ear all day long.
@curtisjackson7814 Exactly. He’s is in the business to influence people to walk into the bears cave that is car dealerships. They’d make money even if they gave one to him for free
@@AllglorytoGod000 I didn't realise Matt Watson is the son of God, but it doesn't surprise me for he has many disciples and his Word is the truth. Just like his stick is. I worked for Ferrari. The position in the order "List" means nothing and comes down to which individual established customer the Head of Business or General Sales Manager prioritises at the time of a production slot becoming available. The clients deemed to be the "big hitters" are talking to those guys, not a salesperson. And those preferred customers could be very very appreciative. Allegedly.
I worked under a man who is currently the head of Ferrari sales in his region. Needless to say that he was corrupt and dishonest when I worked for him and I hate to think how he sleeps at night now knowing the type of people he must be blackmailing because there is absolutely no doubt that he is. I realised this years ago and got him to buy ME a brand new car to keep my mouth shut and then resigned as soon as I was given the keys. Quite truly I think that is the one and only time this guy has been stung. I sold the car a few weeks later for a large profit and left him to pay it off. He learnt a lesson that year, but has obviously bettered his game as he is now a regional manager for Ferrari.
@@Glyn69 Yes. But as I wouldn't trust the man as far as I can throw him and aware of Ferrari antics once they have their greedy hands in your pockets, I'm afraid I'll pass. You are free to contat me if you would like to buy a car - I'll do that for you - then I will step way clear and you are on your own.
I talked with a Porsche dealer 3 days ago. There is a new car on their lot and a 4 month old CPO car. He would not sell me the new car, but he offered me the CPO. Reason? Because they want to sell the new car to someone they have a relationship with. Oh, and the CPO car is marked up almost $10k over it's original sticker - and higher priced than the new car - but is lower spec than the new one. I told them I'd shop elsewhere.
@@carpediem4512Flippers wouldn't have a business if these cars were not restricted in this way by the dealers. If people could buy it at list price, how could a flipper get a 100k mark-up?
@@janbo8331 Theyre restricted because those cars are rare. If they allowed to sell their cars to flippers, regular people who legitimately want a supercar to drive and keep wouldn't be able to buy any from a dealership. The exact same thing happens with Rolexes.
@@Romans8-9After watching the video it should be pretty clear that people can't buy these cars from dealerships either. They keep them rare to sell a bunch of cars people don't want. That was the whole point of the video series...
No you’re not. Porsche hasn’t delivered any cars to dealers in months. They’re all stuck at port. Dealers are buying Taycans tho and those are not selling in the slightest.
This culture with luxury car brands is the reason why I will keep my 86, STI, GR Corollas even if money wasn't a problem (I manage IT for multiple dealerships, Ive driven them all). Fun to drive? Yes. Repair and upgrade myself? Yes. Easily replaced? Yes. Imagine being rich enough to buy 10 Porsches and still being treated like trash by the business that you keep afloat by being a customer.
Certain STI models are appreciating anyway hehe. And you are right, they treat their customers very well. The Subaru CEO even said he just wants to make cars that make people happy. They have topped multiple surveys for customer satisfaction. Sure, they're not super cars, but they're great cars non-the-less and fun to work on (easy to work on, lots of parts), cheap (relative to luxury brands), they''re great all rounders (used in many different forms of motorsport, like rally, time attack, drag, circuit racing etc), have a rich history in motorsport (with WRC) and in general are good enthusiast vehicles. Toyota likewise is a very good brand also.
I don't see what's fraudulent about it. Surely it's up to them to decide who they sell to. If you don't like it, go and buy a different car from somewhere else. I presume it's to try and weed out the people who want to come in and buy the car and just immediately flip it for profit whereas Porsche would rather sell to loyal customers who want to actually keep and enjoy the car, or as mentioned in the video, be ambassadors for the brand. I can't really blame Porsche for that. But also similarly just let people with too much money, spunk it away giving it to Porsche for the 'cachet' of owning one of these halo cars.. it's their money, let them throw it away. The same crap happens all over the place with 'luxury' brands.. just go and walk into a Rolex store and try and buy something other than a generic / higher volume piece. They won't sell anything to you.
I wont even bother stepping foot in a Porsche Dealership then. If I want something nice like that, I'll just find exactly what I want and buy it off of someone. Saves me from buying all kinds of vehicles and I just jump to the car that I want. Good video!
And since you have no loyalty to a dealership, you can just sell the car private party again at a fair price rather than selling back to the dealer at msrp
Its the dealerships and the people who buy 10 cars from it to own a gt3 rs, we made this flaw ourselfs. They smell money they do everything to take it from you
its because people are willing to pay over msrp. if no one did, no one would try and profit off it. porsche wants these cars in the hands of people who will use them so this is one way of doing it.
This is a huge problem and needs to be resolved. The common man will eventually become so tired of not being able to buy a gt3rs that no worker will continue their job and the economy will come to a standstill.
Great job Mark!!!! My good friend just took delivery of his Porche 911 Targa this past weekend. $179K. This is his 3rd Porche in a row with the same Chicago dealership. He left me a voicemail that his delivery experience with the new GM was terrible, and he is reaching out to the State Attorneys General office today on this. I can't wait to hear the juicy story. Will keep you posted. 👍
Great video Mark. I tried a heap of Porsche dealers to get a Cayman GT4RS at list but had no joy. I have also tried to get a GT3 at list but again a massive waste of time, I was constantly directed to the used GT3's on the forecourt at ridiculous overs. Despite being cracking cars, this experience has massively put me off Porsche. These dirty tactics have driven me a way from the brand even though the forecourts are filling up and the prices are coming down. Keep up the good work Mark. It passes my down time here on an oil rig offshore Africa.
In the UK, every dealership in Scotland then worked my way southwards but quickly realised I was wasting my time. Like many other prospective buyers, Porsche don't need my money so I'll spend it elsewhere.
Same here. I bought a couple GT3's from a dealer. They offered me a GT4 RS...for 150k over sticker. I never spoke to them or any Porsche dealer again. I maintain my own Porsches, and I never purchase cars from Porsche.
Scarcity is a powerful dynamic. Many high end watch brands are doing the same thing. MSRP doesn’t mean anything. An item is worth what people are willing to spend on it regardless of what its MSRP is. If a Porsche is going for $350k on the secondary market-it’s a $350k car. Are you going to insure it for $250k if replacement value is $350k? Dealers have found out that it’s better to offer these rare items to their best customers at a discount to what the secondary market is commanding instead of just charging anybody and everybody the full market value. I don’t like it as it seems wrong and greedy-but everybody interviewed in this video (the Porsche salespeople a well as that luxury car dealer) was brutally honest about the situation.
@Tune2Race Mat Watson has a few older Porsches such as a 1999 911 996 which is 24 years old however I am thinking of the exact same question of how Mat Watson got a allocated a brand new GT3 RS. Shmee150 can’t get a brand new GT4 RS when he has had more modern Porsche than Mat Watson because Shmee has had a 981 GT4, 991 GT3, Taycan Turbo S and 718 GT4.
Massive social presence. He made a video customizing it as well, probably in the deal for him to get the allocation. That video alone probably made 100+ more people buy into the stupidity of this scam, all profit and hype for Porsche
Even as evil as a car dealers, the last thing you want to do is to upset a man on one of the biggest internet platforms with close to 9 million subscribers and risk him saying don't go to whatever dealer you are in because it's rigged. That is a one-way ticket on a space shuttle to absolute destruction.
I would never do business with a company that operates this way. There is simply too many other options out there that have much more respect for the customer.
Thank you Mark for showcasing this side of the dealerships that isn't widely spoken about on social media. It's disgusting to me, that such reputed brands are being so petty and hypocritical to make that extra cash at the expense of their valuable customers.
The reason that these dealers can continue to do so is because Porsche, the brand you love, doesn't really care about you, the customers. It is that simple.
No the reason they can do this is because people put up with this sort of crap to buy the cars that porsche dangles in front of them. People with self respect wouldn't buy 10 cars they don't want just to buy one car they do want.
Stop being a brand loyalist. If we pull our money from porsche then they will be straight with us. As long as you remain loyal to a brand and give them your money they will screw you over. Aaple does it, Samsung does it, and farari and porsche are doing it.
Maybe in the uk but not in germany. We do such dealership tests since 30years here in germany and expose them on TV. Porsche dealers are always the best of all! While Audi and BMW always the worst.
Significant dealer markup is common - Toyota 4Runner and Tundra TRD Pros, Ford Raptors, latest gen Corvette, etc. If Porsche allowed their dealers to markup significantly above sticker, they'd just do that instead of making you buy 10 cars.
its not about the money, theyre getting that extra money regardless. its about the status of their company. whoever buys a porsche is seen as a representative of the company.
They have the cars at the top of the range, the limited, the almost one offs, if they sold them they would no longer have their pull and carrot for customers to walk in the door. This system is a total con and the customers are weak minded to play a long with it. Buying into a gullible club. Brilliant video, great insight. Hope you get the car it’s a stunner.
This almost sounds like what the U. S Ford, Chevy, Dodge was doing with Pick up trucks a couple years ago. Lies Lies Lies, they where selling $50,000 trucks for $110,000. You ordered a vehicle, left a deposit, then the dealer sales the truck right from under you to the next customer who was willing to pay $30-$50,000 over. Dirty Game!!!
In an age of unintended ambiguity, this was a remarkably clear take on 'klout' chasing at the highest levels. Great presentation, story-line, and positivity in the face of staggering stupidity. Subscribed.
I bought my GT3RS in 2016 without any of these issues. I’m so glad I’ve sold it since and moved to manufacturers who don’t play this game while selling 100 variations of the same exact same car haha.
Love these 'exposing the industry' videos Mark. Your taking your channel to another level, similar to 'Jayemm', exposing everything too. Fab insight. 🤗 💯👍
If I'd done absolutely everything and spent millions at a loss and still not got 1 I think I'd just sell them all and never buy a porka again. Great video mark.
But then there's 100 other people that have spent more than you, they should take priority as they are bigger supporters of the brand. So that's why you still might not get an allocation.
That’s exactly what it is. Took them a while to catch on but it’s the same scam. Which they know doesn’t matter to the wealthy. They want what they want and will pay what ever they have to.
Crazy bonkers world we live in. Its just a car, a very good one, but just a car. Thanks for exposing such a ridiculous money making scam. Amazes me that there are people with so much money they don't even mind being treated like a mug!
Or any SS Sports model - unless you buy a stack of Tudors and Omegas you don't stand a chance, and even then you won't get a Daytona unless you 'are someone'.
Out of thousands of other fine watches out there and all you do is ask for a Daytona or a Submariner (yawn) then more fool you. You are just being a sheep and the AD's can instantly tell you are easy to scam into playing their game to feed into the grey market.

I've bought close to 20 Porsches now, but unfortunately have bought from multiple dealerships as I've sometimes just gone to whoever has a particular car I like in stock. I stopped buying from Hatfield after falling out with them, (I think I bought 6 from them), but despite having also bought 1 car from Mayfair, 2 from Reading and my 2 most recent cars from Guildford (so well into double figures with PRG dealerships), I can't get a place for any GT cars as brand loyalty doesn't count, it's only loyalty to an individual dealership that potentially gives one a place on the elite list. I've also bought 3 cars from Dick Lovett, 1 from `Sytner and a couple from Ashgood. I wouldn't buy to sell, but having one of the rare cars would be a real treat! It bugs me that vloggers get the cars with no interest in brand loyalty, whereas people like me don't get a look in.
That is ABSOLUTELY INSANE. You´re telling me you bought 20 Porsches and you can´t get an allocation for a GT3RS? I thought Ferrari made clients do the run around but WOW.
Ultimately it sounds like you're the ideal customer to them though, you buy their cars regardless of how you're treated and they don't have to give you any VIP treatment as you still go back for more.
Some of these people are beyond clueless...Just because you have money doesn't entitle you to anything. Nor does buying a bunch of cars (or overpriced accessories) recently mean you're worthy of rare/special vehicles. This is no different than the watch world, hand bags or any other desirable product. Rare cars are going to go to celebrities, important business people, people with a long-time relationship with a dealer that are valuable and those with the right image. Corporate doesn't want just any random person with money in certain vehicles. Brand image is important. Just because you think you can box doesn't mean you get to challenge Mike Tyson or Muhammad Ali.
I watched the same thing happen with Ferrari back when I was buying exotics. My dealership, even though I had purchased 2 Californias, a 430, and an F12, would not spec me a 458 Aperta. And the manager is and was a great friend. He was just doing what he was told. I later found out that they actually rejected one of the stars of the L.A. Lakers for the same car because his portfolio wasn't impressive enough. It's mind blowing. But, they all do it and customers continue to pay the overs.
Sounds like 1st world problems. I'm almost tearing up ;) Seriously, the OEMs can do this only because enough people are willing to play. Failing to own a GT3 RS is not an existential threat...
@@YSF_B28 Did you even watch the video, the whole high end model scam is to make you buy more of their cars to get on a list to buy the car you actually want. Porsche make a lot more money this way. It's a fear of loss hustle.
I had the exact same issue with Porsche Nottingham two years ago…. Walked in spoke to the receptionist & said I’d like to purchase a new car, what car she asked…a 911.2 GT3 RS with Weissach package, I’ll get a sales mane for you. Then this jumped up little 🔔 end comes over in his mother care tight fitting suit & asks straight away have you had a Porsche before… No I’m treating myself as it’s my 50th. That’s ya problem he replied, then he went on about I should have bought Porka’s before then sold them back to the dealer etc etc…. After about 5 mins of him telling me what I should have done I tore the little C**T a new one in the showroom about the way in which he was talking to me, next thing I know is two 🐷 rock up & ask me to leave as I’m causing a scene!! After I’d explained what had happened one of the 🐷 I walked off in disbelief!! Wanting to spend that amount of money & not on finance either I thought fcuk the lot, so 3 weeks later I purchased 5 acres of land & built 6 stunning 5 bed homes. These dealers are W*****S & want striking off the lists!!
Don't understand the problem, car is limited and they only want to sell it to regular customers. Don't like it go somewhere else or do something different as you did..bit childish making a scene.
Operation like mafia, it's corruption. They don't even hide it, strange that customers don't have any rights. I see some celebrities get their dream car, something really wrong with this monkey buisness...
The shadiest trick wasn’t mentioned. Here in the US when Porsche dealerships get an allocation that hasn’t been sold yet they will contact one of their big customers to come down and buy the car outright. Then the customer sells it directly back to them for what they paid but now since the title has switched hands they can now list it as a CPO with a massive markup. I’ve seen that twice within the last couple months at my local Porsche dealership and they are a smaller one. They had a CPO Dakar with 10 miles for 430k and a GT3 with 22 miles for 300k.
Very interesting! A friend of mine has just bought/taken delivery of a 992 4 GTS in the USA. With the scam those dealers are pulling can you explain what's in it for that 'customer' that they are getting to buy it and immediately sell it back? Do they slip them part of the profit or does it enhance their rating/score on the list? Cheers.
@@bertwhetstone3173 I suppose to avoid the MSRP prices? It's not a "new" car anymore, it's used therefore MSRP won't apply so now they can just the price up to market/whatever price they want?

If enough porsche customers started making videos and instagram posts saying they've been denied buying GT3s and GT3RSs coz they refuse to buy other cars, porsche would fix this over night. This means they can afford to sit back and let things go on as they are. 3. When it comes to track focused and sportscars in general, no one does it better than porsche. They're light, reliable both on and off the track, rock solid so you can beat on them all day, get up the next day and continue beating on them. Carl is right, ultimately it’s cheaper to just pay overs for a car than to play the game with a dealership for the chance that you might get the chance to buy one.
Yes but if you want it customized to your spec that is going to be a problem. The "overs" always has to cover the sellers sales tax at least here in the US and whatever premium the market insists upon. With Rolex it is worse the models you are forced to buy literally have no resale value. Its just better to buy the piece you want at a markup if you absolutely need it now. I do see prices of secondhand rolex going down probably due to money problems in China and to some extent here. I guess I am not rich enough to really bother. I cannot figure out what the fuss is about the Porsche GT cars. I have owned my 911 GTS for many years now but I don't really know what is special about them. It is nice to have a car that doesn't depreciate as much as a BMW or MBZ but still. They just seem to be cars that mid tier doctors, dentists, and lawyers drive.
I tried to buy a new Volvo in the UK, but many car dealerships these days don't sell cars, they sell PCP and a warranty....from new. So that's nearly £1,000 a month to effectively hire your car for 3 years, plus insurance, VED, servicing, wear & tear. Nearer £1250pcm. £42 a day, even if you don't use it. Park at an airport for your two week holiday and 'your' car costs you £588 + parking fees, to just sit there. Madness I'll never understand.

I think the problem now is the demand is far greater than it was back then.

There are barely ANY porsche 911s in the dealer inventories.

Yep I agree, I don’t understand how people can like a car so much that they get taken for mugs, this is nuts
Yeah u need to have a backbone, which unfortunately not many have.
When you have a collection of 50+ cars and have all of the cars you've dreamed of and money is no object, why not pay over to get it?

Aww, sorry you couldn’t get your toy. I hope you still have the will to live

I was going to say. I'm a modest watch collector and find that I can get very good values in the used market if I stay away from a few brands. That said, I'm not backed up with invitations to black tie affairs because of my Richard Mille collection.

I worked for Ferrari. The position in the order "List" means nothing and comes down to which individual established customer the Head of Business or General Sales Manager prioritises at the time of a production slot becoming available.
These Porsche dealers should be introduced to criminal prosecution for fraud

@@mg-by7uu ouch. 150k would have me pretty angry also.
How did Mat Watson get an allocation???? He hasn’t bought any other new Porsches… it’s all a fix
My thoughts exactly
Maybe because he is a motoring journalist and could say nasty things about their cars in his reviews?

They are in business to make money and they have this down to a fine art!

Here in the US when Porsche dealerships get an allocation that hasn’t been sold yet they will contact one of their big customers to come down and buy the car outright. Then the customer sells it directly back to them for what they paid but now since the title has switched hands they can now list it as a CPO with a massive markup. I don't think there's any sports or supercar that can do this. Most of them only look good and do really well as street cars. They are mediocre on track coz, fall apart the second you start beating on them, some fall apart while parked and some weigh more than most mountains s/o to clarkson.

@@pauldavies7251 That's changing fast with cars like Tesla who doesn't have a middleman dealership and still beats a 911, even with a Truck. Wait till the Roadster 2.0 comes out, Tesla's actual supercar. It will be the day of reckoning for all the supercars out there, mark my words.

My first car was 1988 toyota Corolla, it was carbinator not fuel injection with 300,000km; the thing was immortal never did any maintenance on the car no oil changes nothing except front brakes just because it was metal on metal . Had it for 3-4 years and abused the crap out of it and it never let me down. So I ended up scraping it in perfect working order because I got a new car.
Problem is that car is also overly marked up
Carl is right, ultimately it’s cheaper to just pay overs for a car than to play the game with a dealership for the chance that you might get the chance to buy one.
Pay 'overs' and then the bubble bursts... probably not likely with the RS, but it happened to the GT3.
Can you imagine paying 250+k for a car and not even being able to spec it the way you want? We're not talking some second hand Ford here ....
I laugh at the sillyness of any man who allows a company (like porsche) to treat them like fools.
Hahaha

I tried to buy a new Volvo in the UK, but many car dealerships these days don't sell cars, they sell PCP and a warranty....from new. So that's nearly £1,000 a month to effectively hire your car for 3 years, plus insurance, VED, servicing, wear & tear. Nearer £1250pcm. £42 a day, even if you don't use it. Park at an airport for your two week holiday and 'your' car costs you £588 + parking fees, to just sit there. Madness I'll never understand.

There are many RIAs out there, but finding someone you trust to help you seems like a big deal. For this I work with Val and so far it has been worth it. I was looking for this kind of help in trading because my job takes up most of my time and leaves me little chance to focus on trading. How can I know him?

It’s funny. 15 years ago, you could walk in and get a GT3RS without too much fuss. But since Covid, it’s been near impossible. There will eventually be a correction…just have to wonder if people will have long-enough memories when it happens
I worked in a Porsche dealership when the gen 1 997 GT3 came out. If you wanted one, I'd sell one to you, no worries. You'd have to wait about a year but if you wanted one, it was yours.
In around 2010/11, I walked into my local showroom and there was a used 997.1 RS on the floor. 3xxx miles. Salesman said they could do 100k out the door. I'm still kicking myself for not picking it up. I wanted a .2, so I skipped it...and got neither

I bought a new a 997.1 GT3 in this manner. There was a list but it wasn't too difficult to get an allocation if you purchased from a dealer who got a decent number of cars. I purchased from Fairfield Porsche in Connecticut. It was the first ever Porsche I purchased too. I think fewer were made back then too. I think the problem now is the demand is far greater than it was back then.
There will be no corrections. Petrols cars are to become outlawed and priced out.
This is a club within a club but I can appreciate the mentality behind it. Porsche don't need to do 'the hard sell' They already have a captive audience!
