But, being one that prefers a good looking Coupe & Saloon - NOT this BIG BULKY SUV sh!te nowadays - but a proper car, I fell in love with the 2 & 4 series when they came out, ESPECIALLY in that gorgeous Aquamarine colour... The colour only comes a close second to my ULTIMATE FAVE - Audi's 'Ara Blue Christal Effect' like on their S3, TT's and such...

Edit: As a car guy I always want something fun for everyday (mid powered manual ticks that box) personally I have a manual M4, and the rev match feature makes it very dailyable.

Usually, when you have to debate a car's "daily- ness," it's likely does not possess the most 'quotidian' friendly attributes. It is the enthusiast's justification. "I haven't fall out of love with it". Yes, yes you have. And that's okay. As an M2 owner myself, and buying and selling several cars throughout my years I understand this feeling. Its not that you can specifically point out anything wrong with the car (which is why you're saying you still love it), but it just doesn't make your pants tingle anymore. Cars are not logical decisions, and logically the car is great. Perfect even. But as time goes on, everytime you get in, it feels slightly less special. Its part of the human condition. Lucky for us, unlike with women, we're generally welcome to swap in and out of new cars whenever we please!

This is almost spot on I think. I feel this particular case is maybe a little different as it sounds like he doesn't have/ make the time to drive his M2, but generally you are right and he's likely to get bored and replace the M2 with something spicy in the future as well. We car enthusiasts are always looking for the next car (and falling out of love with our current cars in the process). The way I've found that addresses this somewhat is to watch reviews of your own car. It helps you fall back in love
Also completely agree with you re wrenching on your own cars. The sense of freedom of not needing to go to a mechanic is just so nice. Good luck with your Fiat!
FWIW I drive a Clio 182 cup and Megane R26. Both after Renault Sport cars which I'm guessing you don't have in Canada either. I think the closest place to you that got the Clio (and maybe others) is Mexico.

It's such a good car, but if you don't use it (like I don't use mine) then it just becomes a really pretty paperweight in the garage - which part of me is strangely ok with. I totally agree with the ‘one car that does everything’ point. The second you have a garage that can have at least ‘a daily driver’ and ‘a weekend toy,’ then M-cars, 911s, or any other practical and reliable sports car becomes less interesting, because you can get a better car for daily driving, and a more special and unique experience giving car for the weekend.

Took awhile to figure this out as I was always familiar with front engine cars, is balancing a rear engine setup for turns. It will take time, and confidence will come. I have learned to lightly tap the brakes to get the weight to shift to front axle before initiating the turn on twist roads when driving spiritedly with a car with the engine behind the driver. Especially after putting M3 bits underneath it with a nice LSD in the rear. 6MT 3200lb RWD with upgraded suspension and some tuning (plus other things ;))makes it quicker in a straight line and way more fun to drive than the new M2 (and even the OG). Ironically, all that "sounds good" @3:04 is BMW Active Sound Design (ASD). 🤣 As a previous owner, I can confirm 1-2 shift sucks and the suspension feels too floaty. Although Thomas and James didn't mention it, the steering is very numb. Besides that, excellent car! Not many others in the price range that are good all-arounders like that and it's not bloated like all the newer cars. I drove the CT-4 Blackwing, very nice too, but the clutch/transmission are so disconnected and it has the American vs European feel (that's just preference). I liked it (manual only), but not or me. M2 replacement is the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio. Feels perfect in every way from the factory. I prefer it over the M4. It feels like much more of a car that BMW used to make, but designed by Ferrari engineers.

So I owned both an OG M2 and an M2 CS and the CS definitely was the better car and certainly addressed the suspension issues that you spoke about and upgraded on your car. The car was super capable, incredibly fast but I ended up selling it after about a year and a half. I sold it for almost what I paid for it so there was that but there were definitely things I did not like about the car like the gearbox that you mentioned. I did not love the manual transmission as I found it to be a little rubbery feeling and that 1st to 2nd shift was often a problem. I did not love the sound of the car either and while it was incredibly fast, the sound was not satisfying to me. Also, not only did the car have a small fuel tank but it got terrible gas mileage. For whatever reason, I had my fun with the car and sold it to buy a Porsche 718 GTS 4.0. While that car was not as practical, it was superior to me as a sports car and it was way more exhilarating to drive! Overall, the M2's are all great cars but sometimes it's just time to let a car go and move on to the next one. Thanks for sharing and looking forward to seeing what you get next.

Can relate. Bought a B8.5 RS5 after watching your old vs new video. Had low miles and was only my nice day car which didn't get driven enough to justify it. Sold it for something practical. I shed a tear selling that car.

There is no such thing as a forever car. After owning a car for years you want to change it up. No matter how good the car is.

My og m2 is a forever car but I got a few other cars so perhaps that’s the key.
I will never sell my og. It’s a perfect modern car with more character than almost any other vehicle in the price range.

the new M2 is only for O.G. DTM fans. the design is supposed to harken back to the E30 racer, now whether BMW achieved that or not is up for debate, but apparently that was the idea. once i heard that the look made sense (to me anyway).

Got an LCI OG and enjoy it quite a bit. Always drive with the windows down to hear that exhaust. I also feel it’s the last M car to have the old school charm of the older models. May not be nearly as capable as the top dogs in the line up, but just feels more nimble, fun, and sporadic than they do. Although I can’t say I wouldn’t trade it for a clean f80 M4C lol
