I’ve had my T2i for 12 years now and I still use it! The video specs are outdated now but it still takes great pictures! It’s a great camera for anyone trying to get into photography or beginning video work.
My Canon 550d has now 12 years and it's still usable. I take it when shooting non-commercial work and it's good for photo. Twelve years ago video was great, especially when you used MagicLantern, it was complete game changer in it's time. You should check it out for OG Canon 2010 Indie filmmaking experience.
My Christmas present this year was this camera. My very first cannon camera and my very first professional camera if you exclude my iPhone 11. This review made me love it more because considering how old it is and knowing it’s the best DSLR for the price is awesome, thanks!!!
If its your first camera, get a nifty-50 50mm lens. Its almost impossible to take a bad photo with that once you wrap your head around the fact that, like all prime lenses, you zoom using your legs lol. Its got a fairly shallow DOF, but the Bokeh (Think blurriness of things out of focus, but tasteful) on 50mm lenses is divine.
This was one of my first digital cameras when I started shooting professionally. Ive shot layouts for Muscle and Fitness, GQ, FHM and several other magazines back in the day. Still use it from time to time when I want to use my Holga lens and do some low-fi looks or when I just need product shots clothing companies are using on their social media. Put a good lens on it an its a steal for $100 these days.
What crazy is, i bought this camera because I wanted better than my highschool class offered, at the time I’m btfo right now, seems I’m gonna have to film some more bark to re level myself Lol
My first DSLR was a T3i in 2011. Essentially a T2i with a fully articulated screen. As I was interested in birds in flight, I quickly purchased a 7D for it's superior AF and continuous shooting, but the T3i remained my "go to" for everything else. It was awesome and I was very fond of it. A few years ago, I gifted to to my great-niece and we did some shooting together. It's just an awesome, awesome starter camera. Loads of fun and easy to learn on.
Yo I love this video, I just got into photography but you’re gonna blow up man. The quality of this video is exceptional, I honestly thought this vid had 1M views. In due time..
I love this camera so much this is my primary camera I use I have gotten some of the best pictures using the t2i and the picture quality definitely goes up when using a good telephoto lens or even with a kit lens does wonders for being 13 years old, I have been plane spotting and have gone to multiple airshow filmed multiple film projects with the t2i and it works amazingly and the battery life is really good, I have nothing but good things to say about this camera
Another great, thought-provoking video. Made me think of my Fujifilm X10 point & shoot that I bought used in 2012 for $350. I was originally attracted to it because it looked like a classic Leica. It has a 2/3-inch, 12-megapixel EXR-CMOS sensor and advanced EXR processor; RAW shooting and in-camera RAW processing, a f2.0 wide-angle and f2.8 telephoto (28-112mm) bright Fujinon 4x optical manual barrel zoom lens. No, it doesn't have a huge sensor, but the zoom is great and the images produced are superlative. Because of the size, it's always in my backpack. The Fujifilm X10 is the perfect street camera...even better than their X100 series because of the fast, tack-sharp 2.0-2.8 zoom.
Great overview, man! I started with an XSi that still lives today despite its shutter curtain falling apart. Picked up a T2i at a garage sale for $10 today. Has a cracked screen (plastic, not the LCD itself) and she'll be put to work as a b cam.
Just want to tell you a funny thing. A week or two ago I went looking for ThinkPad advice on UA-cam, and hit on your channel. Then, last night, my teenage daughter started talking to me about cameras, so I dug out my Canon t2i that nobody has used in years for her to tinker with. Went looking on UA-cam for some thoughts about the t2i in modern times, and hit on your channel again! So anyway, I'm subscribed now, obviously. 👍
I bought two for astrophotography. They came with the 75-300 mm lens, the 18-55 mm lens and another I cannot remember. Two batteries. I'm going to use one for astrophotography which means I need to mod it and the only thing I really need to buy is a shutter control cable and possibly mini HDMI. All in I am $350 with the purchase. Considering the Canon 75-300 mm lens is $200 brand new I think I did alright.
I took some moon pictures with mine on manual with the standard extra long lens, i cant remember the length, i leant on my car roof for stability, i will upload one to my profile background if you care to view
You have to use exposure lock in video mode 💯 i use my t2i for films , weeding events, etc, its the photographer not the camera, like top gun mavrick , its the pilot not the plane💯
My first ever digital Camera 550D, my brother got it from dumpster with battgrip, battery, charger, intervalometer for sony, lenshood. The camera doesn't open and doesn't have any lens. Thankfully i did my best to open the power by the help of youtube of course. Then I bought my first ever lens as well which is Canon 50mm f1.8STM that i found on Marketplace. The output of the photos makes you like very professional. 😊
Your videos are very well-made! The reviews of both the t2i and the a5000 were very helpful to me, but I have a hard time choosing between them. Assuming the price being similar, which one would you recommend for use as a webcam or just youtube in general?
At that point it's mostly up to preference imo. I'm more familiar with Canon and have more Canon lenses so I would probably go for the t2i. The a5100 is for sure a more video focused camera and would be great paired with some cheap vintage lenses. Plus the adjustable screen can be a major help, especially if you're filming yourself.
My favorite and first DSLR ever. I still have it even though the shutter button doesn't work so well anymore. I've transitioned to Fuji now, but I'll never regret how good the Rebel series was.
@@aChairLeg Hi 🙋🏻♀️ So sorry to bother you but could you please tell me what external monitor you’re featuring here? I’m not sure what to look in my search 📷
The movable touchscreen is probably the biggest deal breaker for me personally. The t3i does have a flippy screen though which could be a nice upgrade.
Canon 550d is my go to camera, yes its older now but still takes amazing shots, better than any phone, and i got the 1.8 canon portrait lens recently and its great, and thats before i mess with manual where it gets really good
I'd hold off on the T2i and go for an SL1 which you can grab for ~$150. I bought my 2013 EOS Rebel SL1/100D in 2021 after shooting for almost ten years with a Nikon D3100, which I loved. I got beautiful images with my Nikon kit lenses until I lost my whole system when traveling in south America. After that, the Canon 100D was the most available option for my budget. My Rebel SL1/100D hasn't slowed down my photography one bit. To solve the dynamic range problem early Canon models have with washed out skies in outdoor shooting, I rely on ND and CPL filters to keep the color saturation and blue of the sky without losing the rest of my shot. For any other image challenge, whenever people ask me whether they need a better camera body, I tell them to put their money into their glass instead. It continues to serve me well. I shoot mostly street, nighttime, and concerts, so I need wide apertures and I don't want to mess with ISO noise in post-processing. The ISO can be a limitation on this camera, but it's easy to solve with a couple changes. For lowlight photography, upgrading my lenses to faster apertures were the game changer. I don't need to use extreme high ISO because I have Sigma Art series f/1.4 primes at 30, 50 and 85mm focal lengths, plus a great little Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 zoom. Additionally, the Sigma Art series makes two absolutely killer crop sensor zoom lenses that beat the pants off the similar Canon L series lenses and for several hundred dollars less. If you want to shoot mostly with zoom, their 18-35mm f/1.8 and 24-70 f/2.8 are the best glass you can put on any Canon APS-C camera. If you can't afford the Art series, the Sigma 50mm f/1.4 that came before it is still a great lens, and Samyang makes a beautiful MF 85mm f/1.4 that you can grab used for ~$150. Christopher Frost has done really solid lens reviews on Sigma, Canon, Tamron and Samyang lenses for Canon which have informed my buys. I'm also having tons of fun with the Lensbaby Optic Swap lens system (available in 30, 50 and 85mm focal lengths depending on which optic). Their original Lensbaby series are pretty inexpensive now at second-hand prices and you can get beautiful effects that make your photography really unique. MPB is the best of all the secondary markets for camera gear. Plus you get their six-month warranty. Never buy new. There is no reason to eat all the depreciation on new gear when people are constantly upgrading and trading out their systems. You can get high-end glass at second-hand prices through them without any of the risk you have when buying from, say, eBay sellers.
I got mine upon it's release, a bit of an impulse purchase, but having been buying disappointing digital cameras for 10 years, this was my big move. Calling me an amateur is probably too nice, but after buying higher end lenses and photographing my son and other kids for his swim team, I never upgraded like I figured I would. Kid is in college and that era is over, but shooting some birds recently (and going to Alaska next week) I got a big new Tamron 150-600. In the local shop buying the lens I felt embarrassed saying what my camera was, but to my surprise, these 3 pros all said it's still perfect for someone like me...and I thought how I'd have a heart attack if I dropped any of my lenses, but if I broke the camera/body, I could replace it for cheap. Everyone I've known who I ever talked photography with always advised buying the camera you can easily afford, and put the real money in lenses. That's what I've done and I'm still happy. (I do wish the AF was faster/more accurate...and any video I shoot, I use my phone (S21 Ultra + DJI gimbal.)
I have two T2i and until two weeks ago, I had hadn't taken a video of anything since I had a little Samsun Hi8 video recorder 20 years ago, and I was very pleased with the results the T2i gave. Autofocus wasn't a real problem for me as I was using a tripod and not using the whole range of the lenses. The built in microphone picked up lots of wind noise unfortunately. The picture was nothing for an amateur to complain about. Now if your used to better cameras and gear, it's probably borderline crap to you, or if you're looking to blog or do cinematic work, choose something better than the Rebel line of cameras.
just bought one at a flea market for $150 with two batteries and a efs 18-55 kit lens. Excited to break it out and see what it can do. Upgraded from a Canon Rebel Xti.
I've had it for years and I really have no reason to buy another costly DSLR (although I like to know what's out there). The picture quality is phenomenal and I have no problem with the video either, it is still very good 1080p.
If you really want to unlock what this camera can do, the magic lantern stuff is essential, it unlocks a lot of really useful stuff including RAW (though, be careful with that, you can overheat it, the CPU on it just doesnt cope well with long shoots doing that, though modern fast SD cards make it possible, and hey ask the high end pros about RED cameras and heat lol.) and fix that autogain guff as well as letting you black balance, focus peaking, zebra stripes etc for really calibrating that video output. And for photography, it has some fun stuff like HDR multi exposure photography.
I'll take the XSi or T3 over the T2i anytime. IMO, 12mp is the optimum pixel size vs pixel density in an APS-C sensor. A 12mp sensor has a pixel size of 5.2 micron. In comparison, a 6D full frame has a pixel size of 6 microns. Now, if you want to do video, there are way better options, but for still, the XSi and T3 rule the Rebels.
i am looking at buying my first dslr camera for making my youtube vids instead of a webcam ect...or even my phone. will this do 1080p 30 or 60 fps video via the canon webcam app for windows using OBS? i just want to get a real nice clearer image quality...i mainly will be doing guitar and gear review videos...im not interested in using it to take photos ect, just using it as a webcam any help appreciated ect.
I still use my T2i and its the ultimate proof that equipment doesnt mean quality but experience and knowledge. And yes, equipment improve the result of your knowledge and experience. Photographer math: 85%-95% of result are human ability and knowledge (know the limitations, lights, composing, creative and other aspects) and the rest the equipment "The best camera is not the dslr or the mireless but the one you have at hand." My friend told me this one day
Just a correction, the recording bitrate is something about 48mbps, according to Canon's website, it records at 330MB/min, which converting to "mbps" units, turns to 48mbps the math is: 330 ÷ 60 × 8 if someone ever wants me to explain the math I explain, just ask
Okay, so I have a tech channel and I really badly need to get rid of my old logitech webcam for the video since it looks like bull. I also don't have 500/600/700 bucks to spend on a camera. Would you reccommened this??
This, the panasonic g7 if you want 4k or canon 70d if good video autofocus is important to you. All will be good cameras. The lenses will matter more long-term imo but all are solid cameras either way.
Anything that has to do more than one thing there has to be a compromise.if you want to shoot video, buy a video camera. If you want to take photos, buy a stills camera. Simple hey!
Canon ef-s 10-18mm is a solid aps-c vlogging lens. Has stabilization and AF. For a wider focal range the Sigma 17-50 f/2.8 is what I use for a lot of my videos. If you're ok with a manual lens, a wide rokinon lens could be an option too.
The 24mm is a solid lens, I owned one for a while. I'm just not sure if it's wide enough for vlogging. If possible I would purchase it to test and return if it doesn't suit your needs. A basic canon 18-55 on ebay, at least here, is easily under $100 if the 24mm isn't wide enough. Other than that the only other option I can think of would be a wide vintage M42 mount lens.
The videos quality is far from bad. Anyone know knows how to use correct settings and LIGHTING and AUDIO. This camera can out perform a ROOKIE USING A RED CAMERA.
@@aChairLeg thanks for replying my question was if I had a fast car to record on it will it be able to have it in the video clear and have enough shutter speed to have it clear?
Canon 70d is a great option in the Canon realm. Panasonic G7 if you can afford it will have the highest quality video for the price. The Sony a6000 isn't too bad either, any cheap camera is going to have it's shortcomings, but at the end of the day they're all pretty decent
You got robbed on that Sigma lens, I paid for mine for $140. Probably outside of Sigma 18 to 35 1.8, best standard zoom 2.8 zoom lens for cropped cameras on all other camera brand except Canon; on Canon the Canon 17 to 55 2.8 is still sharper. Too bad most super sharp lens are not taken full advantage on most if not all Canon DSLR's because of their inhouse built in sensors and refuse to design one without aa filter.
Good video… (T2i was never meant to have video autofocus, canon started AF t4i and up , I think they started dual pixel AF for rebel around t7i or t8i?)
if you install magic lanter you can have many new features like intervalometer, use the sensor to shoot, dual iso photos etc.. you can record RAW video in this too but it´s just 5 seconds jajaj.. just to play
I’ve had my T2i for 12 years now and I still use it! The video specs are outdated now but it still takes great pictures! It’s a great camera for anyone trying to get into photography or beginning video work.
i just bought one on a whim today for $75 on fb marketplace. so excited to learn how to use this
Is it still better than an IPhone camera?
Since u have one can u answer how to download photos on computer or phone, mine won’t work;(
Magic Lantern my friend.😏
I bought a t2i new as my first “nice” camera. Haven’t felt the need to upgrade. Glad to see it still holds up.
I got a t2i and I only plan on using it for photography and I’m blown away at the pictures you can get for just 200$
My Christmas present this year was this camera.
What crazy is, i bought this camera because I wanted better than my highschool class offered, at the time
I’m btfo right now, seems I’m gonna have to film some more bark to re level myself
Lol
thats what I paid yesterday from craigslist, in mint condition with 2 mem cards.
Magic Lantern firmware turned this camera into a beast back in the day with focus peaking, 3rds grid and zebras in live view.
Magic Lantern is a must on T2i. It becomes way easier to navigate and you get grids, zebra pattern, focus peaking, better ISO and shutter settings...
Yo I love this video, I just got into photography but you’re gonna blow up man. The quality of this video is exceptional, I honestly thought this vid had 1M views. In due time..
Thanks man, I appreciate it!

I still use the camera today. It takes good pictures. Have not tried the video yet. Maybe good enough for now since money tight.
The fact that you had such low expectations is what's really mind blowing.
Just a correction, the recording bitrate is something about 48mbps, according to Canon's website, it records at 330MB/min, which converting to "mbps" units, turns to 48mbps
the math is: 330 ÷ 60 × 8
if someone ever wants me to explain the math I explain, just ask
That’s a damn good looking sandwhich
What's that big thing on the bottom... I assume it's an extra battery, I litteraly get a day out my small ones... How long would that last?
Still using the one I bought in 2011 for all my UA-cam videos.
Such great review 👏🏻
Please what’s the name of the other white Sony camera featured in this video
A5100 I believe
Okay, so I have a tech channel and I really badly need to get rid of my old logitech webcam for the video since it looks like bull. I also don't have 500/600/700 bucks to spend on a camera. Would you reccommened this??
This, the panasonic g7 if you want 4k or canon 70d if good video autofocus is important to you. All will be good cameras. The lenses will matter more long-term imo but all are solid cameras either way.
Anything that has to do more than one thing there has to be a compromise.if you want to shoot video, buy a video camera. If you want to take photos, buy a stills camera. Simple hey!
What do you recommend as a webcam and isn’t there just a software that you use for no additional purchase?
That's a tough one. I'm not sure right now, but that's for sure a yt shorts idea!
@@aChairLeg yes! I’ll put notifications on. 🥹🫶
This camera with really good glass is still a phenomenal camera for still photography. Throw a 50mm prime lens on it and watch how good it is.
Can the lower part or grip can be removed? Or no?
I'm using it and i am finding a good cheap vlogging lens for it, do you know any lens ?
Canon ef-s 10-18mm is a solid aps-c vlogging lens. Has stabilization and AF. For a wider focal range the Sigma 17-50 f/2.8 is what I use for a lot of my videos. If you're ok with a manual lens, a wide rokinon lens could be an option too.
@@aChairLeg i can't afford them, do u think i can use the canon efs 24mm f/2.8 instead ?
@@aChairLeg And I also don't want to delete the font too much, is it okay?
The 24mm is a solid lens, I owned one for a while. I'm just not sure if it's wide enough for vlogging. If possible I would purchase it to test and return if it doesn't suit your needs. A basic canon 18-55 on ebay, at least here, is easily under $100 if the 24mm isn't wide enough. Other than that the only other option I can think of would be a wide vintage M42 mount lens.
@@aChairLeg do u think can i use a tamron 17-50 instead of the sigma 17-50, i heard that tamron is focus lower and don't hanve stablization
The videos quality is far from bad. Anyone know knows how to use correct settings and LIGHTING and AUDIO. This camera can out perform a ROOKIE USING A RED CAMERA.
Is it any good for fast moving objects as in recording them?
It doesn't have good slow motion if that's your question. For photos you'll be fine with the right glass
@@aChairLeg thanks for replying my question was if I had a fast car to record on it will it be able to have it in the video clear and have enough shutter speed to have it clear?
Whats the name of monitor? want one
Do you have suggestions for an higher quality photo/video camera that’s cheap to buy?
Canon 70d is a great option in the Canon realm. Panasonic G7 if you can afford it will have the highest quality video for the price. The Sony a6000 isn't too bad either, any cheap camera is going to have it's shortcomings, but at the end of the day they're all pretty decent
If you put some filters on the lens it will blow you away with what you get raw out of the camera.
I really liked my T2i. I thought the stills looked better than the 7d I replaced it with.
My 550d is now 13 years old❤
I still love my Xsi which was my first SLR.
What do you have on the base of your camera?
Some cheap carbon fiber slider I got 5 or 6 years ago haha. It hardly works, would not suggest buying cheap sliders.
LMFAO
I just died @ the "thank you nissan" Hmu ill help you build er hahaha
Haha she's on her way to a new owner... just keeps breaking every time I'm about to sell
Real shooters use manual.
Bro according to you can u tell is T2i is better than of 4000d (brand new) i am planning to buy
Thanks 🙏
That was the saddest sandwich ever😂
You sound like Hamilton Morris
If you use Magic Lantern on this camera it becomes and video camera beast... so hands down with the magic lantern it is definitely worth it
this Video is really good but PLEASE move your mouth away from the mic 😭 Just a little bit 😭😭😭
Never Underestimate Canon. 📸
I still use my T2i, still good so far, I guess: dont take my word for it I am not a pro.
These go for 75-100 and the D70 goes for 300
Just bought one for $180.
I hate mayonnaise.
"WHY Are People Still Buying This?" Clickbait much?
Buy an M100
Muzak! I'm out.
if you install magic lanter you can have many new features like intervalometer, use the sensor to shoot, dual iso photos etc.. you can record RAW video in this too but it´s just 5 seconds jajaj.. just to play
Whats that?
Thats the ñame? magic lanter?
