Mounting a Minn Kota Trolling Motor On A Hoodoo Tempest 120P Kayak

- This video shows the motor mount that I fabricated for my Hoodoo Tempest 120P pedal kayak.
The mount is made from a marine grade polyethylene board.
It measures 25.25in.x2in.x1in. for the main board.
The mount portion is made from a 6in x 6in x 1in block of the same materiial.
It is held together by 5 screws in the back, and 2 angle braces in front.
This has made for a very sturdy , compact, and fairly light weight (3.28 pounds total weight) motor mount for my Tempest 120P.
The mount is held onto the kayak using the factory installed track.
I used YakAttack MightyBolt, 2" Long x 1/2 Wide t-bolts and POWERTEC 71068 T-Track 1/4x20 Knobs.
The motor is a Minn Kota Endura Max55.
It has 55 pounds of thrust, and weighs 26 pounds.
I replaced the original 60 inch factory battery leads with a 96in(8 Feet) set of Minn Kota battery leads to better fit the layout of my kayak.
Also worth noting is that I also reversed the motor head for use with this type of kayak.
It is the same motor that I have been using on my Tamarack Angler 100 kayak for over a year now, and I expect many more years of faithful service from this Minn Kota motor as they will last forever if you take proper care of them, and do not abuse them.

According to my GPS, my yak is getting a max speed of 3.76 mph using the r/c aircraft prop.
I may go back to the original prop on my Minn Kota Endura Max 55 due to issues with weeds where I've been fishing lately.
Weeds can wrap around the exposed propeller shaft, and bring it to a quick halt.
Not so much with the upgraded prop from Minn Kota.
We'll see.
Did you test the top speed yet?
3.4 mph with the 55lb Minn Kota Endura max at full power, and Tempest fully loaded.
Do you take it in salt water or just fresh I got the same trolling motor.
And same kayak
The Minn kota Endure motors are for freshwater only.
They do make saltwater motors,but they cost more.
Using an electric motor that's not made for use in saltwater will ruin it in short order.
You'll also have to add the stabilizers . The Tempest kayak will turn over on you if you don't.
I've run extensive tests on this boat,and it is slightly unstable with the pedal drive. But it becomes very unstable when you run an electric motor on it.

@@rkygriz hoodoo has a trolling motor that is made for the tempest im going to purchase that to see but kinda hesitant now I do bay fishing in Texas and I usually don’t go in high wind but would not be ideal to lose all my gear.
