Man, they really crushed this! This might be the best Funkadelic cover they ever did. There are lots of vids on youtube of bands covering this jam. They all try to make it sound like a Parliament song by putting the bass up front. I've even seen it done with horns. 🤮 On the original track, George Clinton puts the bass in the background, has Bernie Worrell shadow the bassline on his keyboards, and puts Eddie Hazel out front. In my opinion, the original mix makes this a rock jam that happens to be funky, not the other way around. On the second CD release, someone remastered it, and turned the bass way up above where GC had it, trying to appeal to the "funkateer" crowd. The original mix is better, and the RHCP's capture the spirit of it.
