What do you think of the Focus 3? Considering it as your PCVR headset??
Fov more? but how much more?
@@diyvrchannel3414 :) This is not made for you or most of us. It's a great biz headset.
@@diyvrchannel3414 oh for 600 usd sooo many people would buy this!
@@diyvrchannel3414 so what don't you like about the device? Fan?
Looks Gorgeous, i hope the next Consumer Device makes a mockery of the Quest 2. As for the sound issue. Proper Rift/index style Audio would solve the audible fan issue. or earbuds.
Been looking forward to this one!
exciting for next videos about the focus 3
$800 consumer version this would have done well
Totally agreed, that's why it won't happen.
@@diyvrchannel3414 "same spec like Quest2"
You are tripping.

Great review, thanks.
Look forward to the Steam VR Streaming review - let’s see through the lens. Also worth noting HTC proprietary solution has yet to be used. It will likely outperform Link cable.
This is an interesting preview of what the Index 2/ Wireless Index will be capable of, how good standalone could be if used for gaming and PCVR.
You did a great job reviewing. Seemed honest and to the point and you didn't leave anything out that I cared about
Glad you enjoyed it. :)
I really love the Index. It has an extra cushion to fit the smallest of heads i.e. 6 yr olds. The customer service is top notch. The controller strap in nice and snug. Games are easily launchable via pc when customers are "strapped in." This VF3 does have way more durability. My concern other than can it do everything the Index can (business wise) and will the fans be a issue. It's a toss up only because Valve is so great at customer service and I have yet to deal with HTC. I see the price point and value from first impressions because of durability. I will definitely keep this headset on my radar. Thanks for the video!
Very balanced review of the device, especially versus the Quest from a consumer standpoint. This is the closest thing we have to hope that FB gets competition
Love your videos, man!
Thanks bro, love your articles as well! :)
Absolutely good review.
That is an incredible headset. It simply blows my mind that Vive has decided to stray away from the consumer market when this would be a top notch product providing they price it competitively. Honestly if they sold this for $1000, they would be making some serious cash off the consumer market.
Nice review. How is the picture sharpness vs pro 2 With cable? If its just as good, ill buy it.
If they fix streaming and fan noise I could be very interested!
Wow, what a pleasant surprise to find this review in my feed. As always, super informative and overall outstanding product review. If the fan issue is resolved, the VF3 my top candidate for my next headset. Thanks for working so hard for us enthusiasts!
If only the Vive pro 2 looked like this, it would've been a much appreciated aesthetic upgrade.
Too bad the Vive Pro 2 sucked! I would have kept it if there was better performance!
@@drmatarkin2100 the pro 2s were that bad?😮
@ umm…. I’m assuming I was hacked. I’ve never owned one!
You should probably re-review this one - the new drivers have completely changed the headset. Clarity is off the scale and Wireless 6E connectivity is superb. The thing is, I thought it was good when I got it, but it's now in a whole different league :)
Can it be used with a link wire to play steam games and can refresh rate be increased to 120 ?
Thanks in advance ☺️
@@maxpicture777 No. It is limited to 90hz - but I have never noticed an issue. The screen clarity blows away the index due to its much higher resolution. In fact the resolution is now so high that there is no screen door whatsoever. Playing VR wirelessly is a completely different experience from wired as your brain is no longer worrying about tangling the wire - instead you are fully focused in your 3d world with the freedom to go anywhere or do anything. For me personally, I cannot go back to a wired headset as the presence of the wire ruins immersion (unless you are sat down).
@@ReallyVirtual but can i play with virtual desktop? steamvr games
@@ilplatformista I think it might work looking at the virtual desktop website. But I would most definitely ask first :)
@@ilplatformista no, but their streaming vive business is stable like VD.
Love the design and controllers!!!
I have a question. Does the active cooling fan help with the heat on your face issue? Thank you
Your reviews are just simple, easy to follow, and perfect.
His reviews are SIMPLY simple, easy to follow and perfect.
Great unboxing, Sebastian--though the sweet-spot issue still gives me the willies. thank you.
Now all I need to do is save up $400 more--and start a business! ;-)
How would you rate the visuals and sound of the Focus 3 when compared to the Reverb G2 ?
I'm also curious about this. As the Index is far out of my reach. And Fakebook's crap isn't even a consideration.
the way he couldn't keep his head still, I can't tell man
I had the reverb 2 but sent it back. when you put your hands to you face it went all over the place did not work but view was good
got the Focus 3 on July 7th. been two firmware since then and both helped improve the visuals, tracking and interface. Also have the HP Reverb G2 . G2 sound and visuals are the best for a commercial HMD; still.
My mouth was salivating while watching this, can’t wait to get a vr
You will love VR
@@mixedrealityTV I have a psvr but it dosnt compare to the others. And there all too expensive for me right now
Can a Bluetooth keyboard, such as a Logitech, be linked to the Focus 3 for creating / editing MS Word documents in VR?
HTC Vive have knocked it out of the park !! Phenomenal HMD
You must not be very smart.......
@@evolicious 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 nothing more to say
Is the reflective part at the front removable? Thanks for the great video!
It's not! Glad you enjoyed this.
great video :D
In future iterations of this headset I wonder if they can improve the passive cooling so it doesn't rely on such heavy active cooling?
I want them to release this as a quest killer
I don't think that's possible given the price at 1300$. That's 4 quests and some games.
@@relaxingrain8395 This is the next Gen ENTERPRISE HMD....the last gen was 5000-6000$ let that sink in....This is NOT a consumer HMD> but the Enterprise model is now the price of the last "king of the land" consumer HMD. let that sink in. the best thing the world can do is ruin facebook. sorry, factbook

I think you meant "faeces book"
@@sYd6point7 please try following the conversation before replying. OP said he hoped this would be a Quest killer, and Ascendend is 100% correct that it can't be, given the price. Also, for a supposedly commercial headset, with a matching price, HTC sure is spamming the heck out of INDIVIDUAL users to buy it, including me! They are getting desperate.
As always Sebastian an awesome video, although I can’t believe that you didn’t talk about the audio...
I mentioned that it is a bit better than Quest.
From the preview videos, that button at the back is for adjusting the headset more quickly than the knob - not for the battery.
good honest reviews here
The grip length actually matters a lot in beat saber... I found myself a lot more comfortable with the moves using the OG WMR controller vs the new G2 controller. And I had to use a knuckle strap to play Beat Saber on the Rift S / Quest 1 controller at all.
How do you use that one for example with in the PC? Wanna fly DCS, or iL2
seems like G2 is still your best bet for simming
Hands down, this is, without doubt, will be the next my VIVE VR headset... I am sold, if they can fix the fan noise, or have some way to turn the fan on, or off.
Where did you get those cool posters in the background?
hey :-)
great review...
is it possible to play games from the steam library or somehow import other games, or can you play only what is in the new store for business?
You can stream all SteamVR games from your PC wirelessly. Check my last video.
Hi, you do very good work with every video I've seen!
I'm super curious about a couple of things. Since it's a "Enterprise headset" would it be limited in things it could do, like access to a software library? Maybe I missed this somewhere in the video, but how would you go about connecting it to a PC? And how would it do with things like bigscreen and VRchat (The two programs I use regularly)? Thanks!
I finished the video and found the cabled PC connection to be good! Does it come with the necessary cable, or is there an even better one? Seems steam library is no problem. I'd still like to know a little more about performance with bigscreen and VRChat.
about design, this one seems more like the movie ,Ready Player 1,great video.
good job & keep on...
I am wondering if there will be a way to get VD on it to play SteamVR games. By the way the fan noise might go away after a while cause my Quest 2 had a fan noise issue after bumping it but then later it went away. I was thinking maybe it was getting too hot and it made the fan just go faster that's why or it went off the track and it grinded on the spindle. I would just keep playing around with it and it might just fix it's self. That might just be a defect.
I'll look into it.
Amazing how vr is finally good enough to embark on it's inevitable journey to change our lives forever!
How is the tracking when you are not looking at the controllers? Currently having issues with a VR enterprise training application where you look backwards while driving backwards but still have the controllers in front of you for the steering. It's quiet a hard issue to solve at the moment with the inside out tracking of the HP reverb G2
Will valve hand controllers work with one base station only ?. I've a Pimax which works fine with one Vive 2.0 station, do I really need another base station ?.
Good quality!
Thanks, hope to see the fan noise and wireless streaming getting improved!
Great review mate, thanks for sharing all this. Please tell me that the controller charging ports are now type-c, lol! Once the fan noise and wireless PCVR are sorted out this will def be on my radar. Cheers.
Yes sure, controller is type c :)
@@mixedrealityTV Great, so now just like the Index controllers. I hate those micro-usb on the Vive Wands. Also, I imagine that with IR tracking those F3 controller batteries are going to have nice long runtimes. Probably much better than G2/WMR headlights, lol! Thanks again mate and cheers.
Sebastian, when will you get us all a review of the Varjo VR-3. ?
Working on it! :)
@@shojo8708 Big "It'd be ashame if anything happened to him" energy comment.
Does the battery discharge when using the headset tethered to the computer? Will the battery die while plugged into a computer?
I wish they’d release this to the consumer market… the quest needs SOME competition..
I really hope guy goddin will work on other devices in the future because i absolutely love what he does and i will have a pretty hard time leaving my OG quest with virtual desktop for a new wireless headset.
Hi mate - Long time subscriber. I love your work. Can I just ask that you don't move around in jerky motions so much please :-)
Haha, jerky motions? Probably it's my excitement over VR that manifests itself? ;)
if they had just used this tech in the vive cosmos i would likely be using one right now, lol. so are they planning on making a new inside out pcvr only headset with this tech now? if they did it would be cheaper to make than the vive focus 3 so should be cheaper to buy, and i would likely buy it to upgrade from my lenovo explorer wmr i have had for years. either that or the decagear or maybe the reverb g2 although that is pretty pricey and still has not so great controller tracking.. they have an opportunity here to properly cater to the pcvr community and make a reverb g2 killer.
I use the Index controllers with the G2. A little involved to set up, but when I got them working, it was great. Oh yeah, this setup isn’t cheap, especially if you don’t have the Vive lighthouses.
Great preview. I use my Quest 1 exclusively for wireless PCVR streaming. I don't want a data mining ad machine so want a viable alternative to the Quest 2. Hope streaming gets better. How are the haptics? G2 was really weak there.
Are you a cia agent ?
you can block all ads on your network using pihole
Can I use HTC focus 3 controllers with my HTC vive cosmos elite and play steamvr games with them?
Also, ignoring the fan noise, how is the audio? I don't think you really touched on that. Thanks!
The audio is good! A bit richer than Quest 2. I will analyze in my full review!
Hi! Videos 2D gopro 9 whitout ambient 3D is good? Thanks!
Can you charge it while playing like the quest?
Do the controllers register your fingers touching like the Quest
Yes it has capacitive sensors
Battery life vs types of usage (full resolution, refresh rate and on down). Play area size? Does it still get hot even with the fan? Can it map out different play areas and remember them?
Steam integration and usage, largest VR content provider which I think you mentioned will be covered separately would be great.
Yes, weil get to all of that in my full review.
Can this house and support the facial tracker well with the front usb c input or would you need some kind of adapter to make it stay on?
It's not made for this device. I will ask HTC.
+1 on that tracking
Battery life same as quest? Storage space?
The detachable batteries is a nice Idea.
What is the battery life like on the controllers?
Haven’t watched the vid yet, but I’m excited to see what becomes of this headset, and if it’s worth the price tag
What do you think after watching it?
@@mixedrealityTV Honestly, it's a pretty interesting headset! Too bad it’s not cheaper, Ey?

I love my Quest 2 but designing it with only 3 preset IPD choices was incompetent. I wish I could buy this for that issue alone.
can you use the FBT trackers on this?
how do you acces to business appstore it doesn t appear
Can you sideload quest games? Like could you play beat saber? And other games
Great first impressions! The headset looks absolutely stunning. What's the audio quality like? Cheers 😊
Audio quality is nice. Better than Quest 2 but the fan noise...
@@mixedrealityTV Yeah that really is a damn shame. Cheers buddy
This was surprising. Didn't expect that Vive would impress me again with an HMD. This implements some of the ideas i had for a VR headset that didn't understand why companies haven't adopt them. Btw, why didn't HTC bundled these controllers with the Pro?
Yeah this is a nice headset indeed! The controllers work with a different tracking technology, that's why.
ANY chance you'll be getting your hands on the VARJO VR-3??? Would love to see your type of in depth review, applied to that OLED headset. I know it's pricey, but the extreme VR enthusiasts are out there....
I like to see a review too. Nextgenvr has done a few videos on his channel. The discord group is also full of enthusiastic owners/users.
Only the center of the screen is micro oled the rest of the screen is lcd
Sebastian, thanks for your great review, as always. I'm personally interested in possibly connecting to a pc for flight simulation purposes. Do you think this is going to be possible in the future? If so, I'll consider purchasing. I hope HTC realises we non-business users are also very interested! :-)
I feel like you should be able to change the fan profile. I don't mind fan noise to enhanced performance.
This headset make me droll, look endgame to me. Quick question Sebastian! I really like the canvas behind you, are they for sale somewhere or have you used some sort of canvas printing service ?
Hi, I used a canvas printing service and designed them myself! :)
@@mixedrealityTV Thanks for the answer!
Is the reason they won't release a consumer version because at a price viable for them it would still be more than double the Quest2? in other words is the Facebook subsidy pricing out the competition in standalone headsets? I would've replaced my Q2 for a consumer Focus 3, so much potential here..
Facebook isn't subsidizing the Quest as much as they're buying product (Quest users) to sell to their real customers (the advertisers). The Quest 2 would be a $900 headset if FB dropped their in headset advertising plans.
They make the HMD's battery swappable, but don't do the same for the controllers? Strange oversight!
Comment for the algorithm!!! Yess.
I wouldn't mind the fan so this will work perfect for me.. I actually like the fan it's cooling off the headset. Maybe put a fan with the same speed but less noise?
the speed of the fan is going to increase the noise no matter what
@@EpicMozamba no
@@hexerade.e6142 usually yes
@@EpicMozamba not if you use higher quality fans
Such a fantastic headset, I hope HTC release a reduced cost version when they are in a better financial situation.
We all hope so!
4:35 The button below the back adjusting knob should be quick adjustment for the head strap not for the battery release. Cheers
Yeah, i got weirded out when he said that that button opens the battery even though the padding is magnetic
It would be great to use VR EARS with this. Do you think VR EARS would drown out the fan noise?
For sure.
I would love a recommendation for a WWi-Fi 6E router for use for VR in the U.S. (something around $300 or less, maybe a mesh router).
If you want something wireless the Quest 3 is the way to go right now!
Whoops, edited my comment. I am getting the VF3 and need to get a router for it.
It's nice but I'm gonna wait to see how valve index 2 gonna be, this one seems great but the price is very high and I like the valve index controllers a lot
How is the screen door effect if Oculus Quest 2 was a 5? 1 being bad and 10 being non-existent. Thank you!
9ish
The button on the back is actually the “quick release button” for quickly loosening and tightening the headset before using the knobs.
Thanks for the stellar review!
Thanks Yukai, I found out about it :) It was a first impression video, I will go more in depth!
The fan noise will more than likely not be solved unless they throttle the processor, since it is the same Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 Platform as in the Quest 2, but pushing more pixels.
Do the lenses fog up when you're using it?
No, they do not. I have a 2h livestream on the channel where I play wireless SteamVR and they did not fog up once.
@@mixedrealityTV Thank you for your quick response and info
So you can't use this headset to play SteamVR games since they don't have the game store?
You can stream all SteamVR games.
I already occasionally hit myself in the head with the rift touch controllers making the ring bigger is going to be a problem.
Did you mention audio at all?
nice
Nice
This might be an option if the quest 2 pro dose not support higher ipd's.
I actually have heard the fan on my quest 2 quite a bit even with headphones. I want vive to come back to the consumer space. Even if it’s a cosmos refresh where they give the standard one tracking like this headset and optional base stations faceplate.
m using quest 2 since like a month and i dont even know that there is a fan xd
That’s weird. I’ve had the quest 2 since launch and have never heard any fan noise from it whatsoever. Maybe something wrong with it.
I only learned from this review that Focus 3 has a fan. Never noticed any fan sound. I am not using heaphones. But it is now 1 year later. I assume, much newer firmware fixed the problem.
Doesn't matter if $800 is too expensive for some consumers. Go for the Quest 2 if that's what you can afford. What matters right now for VR is that there's cross play availability which means having larger player pools. This is it boys. Buckle up. The rocket to mainstream ready to launch.
