- Soooo it's been a few months since my last cover, sorry it's been so long guys. But anyhoo here is my interpretation of Gojira's 'Liquid Fire'. I say interpretation as it's kind of difficult to tell exactly what Mario is playing but this is what I think it is, taking in to account how other drummers I've seen play this track. I also look really grumpy in this track, but trust me it's because I'm concentrating.
There a set few grooves featured in this song, all of which took me a few months to get right purely from a technical perspective.
Babble aside, please enjoy the video and take note that I will hopefully be putting up a lesson of how to play it in the near future.
I do not own the original track featured in this video.
this is just amazing, the level of detail is good as shit, you can see the effort, man, i do really like the cover, the precision is very good, every note is where it should be, also the sound its pretty good, congratulations, keep the good work, hope there’s more
mother of compliments
I do agree though
It seems that you indeed nailed it exactly like Mario did. I tried playing this myself and I couldn't do it, despite being able to play the Meshuggah Bleed hertas on top of 4/4 comfortably. A different pattern but it has a similar "floating" kick feel.
And I have to say it's pretty badass to play with ankle weights. So far I've only seen Gene Hoglan practice with those. :)
Thanks for the kind words Rygar, funnily enough bleed isn't actually too difficult to play rhythm wise, I just struggle to keep it up for the whole track, but if you can play that then I'm certain you can play this song! Give it a go!
The most accurate one on the internet, well done
0:12 three brains needed
I'd argue two since the hands are just a paradiddle which is pretty natural to almost all drummers after a while. Combining the feet is the hard part (hence 2 brains)
In my opinion this is the best drum cover of any gojira song on youtube. You nailed it man!
Holly shit dude you made it look easy! hahaha congratulations, great cover, cheers!
amazing cover! best of this song on youtube by a mile
Thanks man, really appreciate it!
You sir are an amazing drummer! Amazing song, amazing cover!
Thank you so much for the kind words Kyle!
The groove is real, awesome cover
Wow, you really killed it! I'm amazed how you nailed the last double paradiddle combined with the crazy poly triplets.
+kickfliprik Thanks for the comment bro, the last pattern is hard as fuck, but there is a pretty easy way around it. The way I did it was to play just the bass drum part against a click in 6/8 on its own so I could hear how it moved against the click and when it repeated. Then I played a groove to get the feet working with hands, then it was time to work on the coordination with the para para diddle, then just repeat until its tight and up to speed :)
+Sam Slater awesome! that is a great wat to practice it. thanks for the tip, I'm learning this song as we speak.
+kickfliprik also, write it out musically, it's a lot easier when you can see which notes fall on what hand/foot exactly
Great job !!!
Fuck that was tight! Great job dude, keep on rocking!
This was so good!
Nice one man keep doing stuff like this!
Thank you so much man, I've got loads more stuffed planned now that I'm on summer break! I'm also in the process of filming a lesson on how to play this and getting it to sound fluent, so stick around if you're interested! Thanks again!!
Fuckin sick dude. Gotta love paradiddles
Well done mate!
thanks man!

HEATH LEDGER LIVES ?
Hey man good job. How did you record this cover did you use a mic on your camera?
I have 2 seperate HD cameras, shoulder and foot. I use an 8 piece mic kit (with mic clips) and an audio interface with logic as the recording software.
Wicked job! I can't pick up what he's doing in the ghost note and ride sequence with his feet. Help!
Glad you liked it! Individually the hands are playing a paradiddle with ghost notes and accents, whereas the feet are playing in 5/16 (you could think of it like that) Its hard to explain. I think I could put a little lesson together on this groove since its the trickiest part of the track
I would be forever grateful! Haha. it's the only part of the song I can't play...
DrummaMuFucka subscribe to my channel and I'll put a lesson video up in the near future!
How long did it take you to nail the chorus pattern? I know the hands since its just a basic paradiddle but the feet along with it fall onto different beats in groups of three if you get me. It has been frying my brain trying to figure it out. Help if you can.
Hi Lewis, it took me a fair while to learn the chorus pattern and get it sounding clean and tidy. Basically you are correct about the paradiddle pattern in the hands, but make sure you include the accents in the right hand on the ride bell on the 1, 1a, and 2e. And also be aware of the ghost notes in the left hand. With regards to the bass drum pattern, you can think of it being in 5/16 where you play the first 3 notes of every group of 5. The challenge obviously comes in placing the 5/16 bass drum patterns under the 4/4 hand pattern. Its hard to explain really, but essentially the bass drum pattern will move forward a 16th note ahead in each bar of 4/4 (if that makes sense). If you can, I suggest writing out the whole pattern so you can see where each note falls and which hand is playing with which foot. I know this is kind of vague but its hard to explain without demonstrating it. I hope this kind of helps, good luck! (message me back if you think I can be of more help)
Sam Slater Thanks for the detailed reply bro. I had a feeling that the time signature would be different on the feet. I will try and write out the pattern and see if that helps. Once again, thanks a lot for the help. :)
