The guys in Gojira are truly a treasure. They were on tour with Car Bomb in 2017 and when I saw them in Helsinki, my buddy Elliot (drummer for Car Bomb) asked me if I'd like to meet "the guys" after the show. I hadn't even dared to ask despite being a massive Gojira fan for over a decade, but my response was naturally "uhhh, heck yeah??". So cut to me, nervous, entering G's backstage and immediately being embraced by Joe who at this point had no idea who I was. Elliot introduced me as his friend, and then just sort of left me with Joe. We chatted about personal stuff for a good twenty minutes, then he excused himself and said he needed to hit the shower after which Mario came up to me to chat... He asked me about my band, offered me pizza, and wrote the name of my band on the box. Then Jean-Michel swooped in, offered me a beer, and shit got crazy. We laughed so much for over an hour (at one point Mario cussed him out in French, genuinely upset, for spilling beer on the couch) and J-M just kept serving me beer. I kinda wish he hadn't, that way I'd have clearer memories of this night, but the selfies in my phone were worth it. Anyways, watching this interview really hammered home to me once again why this band is so important. How they treat people (and the Earth) is so, so inspirational.
gojira introduced me to metal years and years ago and now car bomb is my most listened band of the past year. I wish more than anything I could have seen them, especially since they played in my hometown on that tour. Heartwarming story man, car bomb and gojira alike are amazing pillars of music
