Goalkeeper Training: How to save 1v1/Breakaways

  • The 1v1 is why the keepers are known as the crazy players on the field because it entails attacking the ball wherever it may be! Everyone has seen those crazy moments where the keeper comes flying off of his line to make a massive preemptive strike stopping the opposition from scoring.
    And the skill is as difficult and scary as it looks! The 1v1 and break away situation can never be practiced too much and should always be looked at.
    Most beginner keepers have a hard time attacking the ball and normally like to stay back and give the striker all the time to look at the goal and slam it and sometimes they can make the save but learning to attack the ball can turn an almost guaranteed goal into an amazing save.
    Make sure as you are cutting down the angle you are closely watching the strikers feet the moment you see that they are going to plant down and shoot you have to get yourself ready for the shot and if you're close enough you have to dive in right away!
    Remember goalkeeping like anything else is all practice do several repetitions to help get a feel for when you like to attack and when is the best time.

    Just wanted to say thanks for the tips! I've always struggled to defend 1v1 and after watching several of your videos I was able to apply them in the past game and stopped 7-8 breakaways and several point blank shots. Had players from multiple teams trying to get my number after the game.. :)
    Get low, get big!

    Master Goalkeeper
    Thank you soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much for making this video!!!!!!!!! I've watched this video like 4 times and I watched it again before my game, and I have to say, this vid replayed in my head many times. I had at least four 1v1's and I saved all of them.
    Again I'd like to say Thank You!!!!!!!!

    Hey Alberto, I found out yesterday that I made the school team as a goalkeeper after 2 weeks of conditioning and 1 week of tryouts. I'm happy but very nervous because our first game is on Tuesday and it's going to be my first time ever being on a team and my first time ever playing a full 90 minute game that's 11 v 11

      EnergySubstantial Stay calm bro, that's all I have to say. If you are nervous during the game you are bound to make some mistakes, so just stay calm and not think about it too much. I was like that this year too, I was too nervous and made some mistakes, but now I just keep calm and don't make as many anymore. Good luck on your game bro.

      My right back in my team can't head away long balls and always mistake a pass back. I shouted at him and spat at him, even pouring cold water on him, he has become a much better player now

    • @m_swizzy22
      @m_swizzy22 6 років тому +7

      Well you got a problem, my defenders are some lads, and my team generally play 3-4-3 or 3-5-2, as our defense is really strong, the first few weeks when I came in were of getting used to for them as I’m a left foot and left handed keeper so my throw outs were curling to their other foot...
      Your defenders must have some serious issue if they cannot pass properly.. a defender should be the most precise passer, and long ball delivery system in your team, except the keeper of course

    My daughter faced her 1st 1v1 break away tonight. It went about as you might have expected for a 9 yr old novice goalie staring down a boy coming at her her full steam ahead. She froze right in her tracks and gave up the goal. Her team still won 2-1 to remain undefeated but now I can show her this tutorial so she’ll know what to do next time it happens. Thanks for sharing!

      No I wouldn't place such a wide blanket number on situations like the 1v1 pro keepers should be able to deal with them more often but a 1v1 heavily favors the striker
