    The recent blunder by De Gea against Portugal also resulted from the old technique, didn't it?

    Some keepers never use the split as it creates a big gap and if the ball slips then you will miss it and congrats on leaving a Panna goal

      The key element that I wanted to teach you GKeepers with this video is that if you close the gap between your elbows as much as possible, you automatically bring the hands in the perfect position and it is impossible that the ball slips through your hands. Try it and you will see that you will feel much more confident using the scooping technique.

      GKeeping Thanks you! I'm sure that will solve my problem. Plus what I did is very uncomfortable. This is easier and much faster.

      @@GKeeping what if the ball is struck with a lot of power? Seems to me that if you're just a tiny bit too late you won't get your elbows towards eachother quick enough resulting in a goal or rebound?

    Hello
    I am a GK coach in France. I personaly was teached with the old version of the scooping (because at the time it was the only one really). Today my message to the young GKs I teach (or try to) is to choose the technique they feel suits them the better.
    I show them both techniques and they can try out themselves.
    The only modification to the old technique I teah them is to never actually put your knee on the ground (do NOT touch the ground with your bending knee), so you can still move to the side even in this position if need to be.
    Great vids, keep up the good work!

    Interesting take on the classic technique... It does create a momentary gap between gk's legs, even if you're really fast to bring your elbows/arms down. You also don't have to over commit and place your knee down with classic technique, so you're still able to move/re-adjust. Will give it a try though, never a bad idea to try new things.

    Great video, real in depth explanation on why this technique is superior to the traditional. However it should be noted that this is an advanced skill and rookie goalkeepers should nail down the basic old fashioned scoop before learning this technique due to the skills that's are transferable such as the hand position but minimising the chance of a mistake for the likes of children and new goalkeepers

    Nice vid mate, Wow I have been working for two years with a personal trainer in the "old way" and over time I have problems like getting the upper body to rise over the ball and picking up balls that are not on the floor. With this method, everything seems simpler. All the weaker parts of me will improve even more. But my coach will stay the old method, the habit does not change in the day :)

    Nice video! I would ad that during scooping saves or low diving saves your chin is important. If your chin is kept down it helps your whole body staying low, the moment you lift your chin during a low save it will affect your whole body.

    I coach young goalkeepers, but never played the position. I was a CB. So I am learning, as well. Is it necessary to go to ground every time with this technique? It seems as though the ball is more protected that way, but also this seems to be most applicable on a bouncing ball. Would you consider a standing bent leg scoop sufficient for a rolling ball or do you always prefer this technique for a low driven shot?

  • @FRESHL1887
    @FRESHL1887 5 років тому

    Very helpful video. Just one remark: Wouldn't it be a good idea to cross your hands after collecting the ball (one hand over the other? That would most probably lock your elbows a bit more to prevent a ball slipping through your arms by hazard even while using your innovative and effective technique of limiting the elbow gap.

  • @andrewelsh7759
    @andrewelsh7759 7 років тому

    To be honest, I think the modern day technique is better. It's easier to learn more effective,especially when you are an exceptionally tall goalkeeper like me. Great video.

  • @funcefilms8462
    @funcefilms8462 7 років тому

    Many goalkeepers still do the old technique bc it works for them. Watch Lloris in the Euros, he uses I believe that after every shot your technique in diving changes a little. I noticed that after one week I don't dive exactly the same for the same shot as i did the week before. That's why I can't use this technique. Such a little detail with the elbows will cost u if ur technique changes a little. The old way is just more secure bc that knee will be down if all goes wrong

      I had the same issue when I was younger, which is really sad. Consider that:
      The key element that I wanted to teach you GKeepers with this video is that if you close the gap between your elbows as much as possible, you automatically bring the hands in the perfect position and it is impossible that the ball slips through your hands. Try it and you will see that you will feel much more confident using the scooping technique.
      Try it and you will see the difference, then try to explain it to him - a good GK coach respects some details where you personally feel more confident with :)

    • @aykiicaush8363
      @aykiicaush8363 7 років тому +5

      GKeeping I think that he will agree with me, because every keeper has his own technique and he needs to play with his technique, right?

    • @GKeeping
      @GKeeping  7 років тому +6

      He should! I personally don't think that you can educate every GKeepers the same way because every individual has his own physical strengths and weaknesses. This difference requires giving GKeepers the freedom of developing their own style !

      Infinity Kevin I had this problem before but i fixed with trying new techniques and finally i founded the perfect one for me. Watch the ball concentrate to it dive with a nice power step and when you're in the air still watch the ball nicely and then place your two hands behind the ball with the diamond shape catching style then land the ball first to the ground and make sure you're landing with nice technique and ball locked in your hands. (sorry for the bad english, i guess that you understand it) btw buy yourself i nice sticky and grippy latex goalkeeper gloves like uhlsport supergrip or something else. thank you!

  • @MeMyelfAndHer
    @MeMyelfAndHer 7 років тому

    This is a question I've had for a while but always forget to ask. Many keepers (even pros like Manuel Neuer especially) make a small jump or hop just before a ball is hit, or as its hit. You can see it a lot in German keepers like with the Bayern Munich gk training videos. I used to get scolded by my old gk coach for doing it, is it bad?

  • @jeff1ca
    @jeff1ca 6 років тому

    P Cech uses the old technique mate... he also uses the W grip. The arrow grip is nice but requires more shoulder abduction which means less shock absorption so in heavier shots you will have a problem if you are not a beast. So if you want to keep the shoulders in perfect position with the arrow grip you have to flex the wrist which is a no no. Anyway, the old technique is safer for high speed low balls, you might offer a rebound but at least you will never be humiliated... Cheers
