  • A quick to make and tasty meal that uses shelf stable ingredients ideal for a multi day hike. The Trangia mess tin is just big enough. Tinned lentils, chickpeas or other sort of bean can be used as the flavour comes from the anchovies who's powerful flavour is hardly noticeable due to the soya sauce. Works well as a quick starter for two and takes minimal effort to prepare. Can be cooked on the simplest of alcohol stoves like a Trangia or a bushcraft campfire. As the ingredients are shelf stable this meal is suitable for long hikes as well as day hikes.
    Ingredients
Tin of Anchovies in Olive Oil
    1 large Onion
    About 30ml Soya Sauce
    2 teaspoons of Chilli Flakes
I packet of Puy Lentils (see below)
    Spring Onion to decorate, optional
I have made this with tins/packets of chickpeas, butter beans etc and each time its worked out well. The anchovies and soya pack a lot of flavour which is taken up by the lentils. I have served this to people who don’t like anchovies and they haven’t noticed them. Add a chopped spring onion to make it look more Instagramable.

Nice idea using the oil from the anchovies to fry the onions.

250 grams which is about 1cup.
They don't have to be that specific brand or in a soft pouch. Tinned will do just as well. This works just as well pulses such as chickpeas. Actual measurements are not critical and the whole thing is more of a serving suggestion than anything else.
