Weight Training Workout // Full Body Strength Exercises for Seniors & Beginners

- Full body strength training workout with dumbbells. I'm using 5 pound weights in this excellent workout featuring exercises for the entire body. Always start with lighter weights if you are new to working out and you can gradually increase the weight as you get stronger.
After a short warm up, the first part of this workout is completed in a standing position. Here, we will work on strength building exercises for the shoulders, biceps, calves, thighs and glutes. We will do some lateral lunges as well as some curtsy lunges that are more knee friendly. You can also always keep the movement small to avoid any knee pain. We then move to the floor to work the glutes/butt more, as well as chest, triceps, upper back and core. If you are uncomfortable in a hands and knees position, you can do these exercises (leg lifts and rows for the upper back) in a standing position hinged slightly forward. The workout is completed with nice stretching to reduce any soreness and work on flexibility.

I've been doing this workout everyday for a couple of months - now up to using 3Kg and 5Kg dumbbells. Getting people who enjoy exercising to do a class regularly is good but to get someone who doesn't (e.g. me) is a real achievement. The 'class' includes all the exercises (and some!) that my physio recommends and I am now seeing real benefits. Many thanks Lauren.

I’m in good shape in part due to Lauren. I like the variety. I have to skip some moves due to a shoulder and a knee. I don’t like the split stance positions esp where you lower your back knee. I just do something else. I work out three times per week with Lauren. My bone density has improved since I began!

Thanks Lauren, another great workout. I used 5# weights except when shoulder exercises looked as if rotator cuff was going to be worked. Then, I backed down to 3# weights for those. Loved the variety of exercises that you incorporated in a 30+ minute program. My muscles feel like they were worked- in a good way!

This was a very good workout, Lauren, especially the arms. I rested about 5 days from using weights, so after this exercise, I can feel the light 'ache' in biceps, triceps and lower arm area! 👍 Have a great week ahead 😁.
