Wow. It's now 2020. That's 45 YEARS after this song first came out and it STILL gives me the same goosebumps. Thre will never be music like this again. I grew up in a very special time time. I knew it then. I miss it now.
Wow!!!!! Now, this is real music. Not like the so called music we have today with artists wannabes. A true classic, and they sound like....... Yesterday. Like Ambrosia sounded in the 70's. Thank you for posting.
I agree, I was 15 yrs old in 1970. It was great being a teenager and young adult in the 70s. I grew up real fast. Joined the United States Marine Corps 1973 - 1977. So a lot of my 70s memories were in the USMC.
My best friend and I had the pleasure of going to see Ambrosia as they reformed after all the years, at a small casino in Wisconsin. Joe had moved to Wisconsin, and this small casino was a great place to reunite. They were getting ready to put together what would become the "Classic Hits Live " tour with Gary Wright, Al Stewart, and others. When we got wind of it, no question, we went. It was just Ambrosia on a very small stage and a very small group of fans. Later, we were invited to the green room, and I was asked if I was the one that asked to hear "Drink Of Water"... I was. What followed was some enjoyable years .... going to Joes studio he was building, donating some of our studio mics to the cause, invited to backstage passes to meet people like Edger Winter, Rick Springfield, Cross, Gary Wright, Al Stewart, Bruce Hornsby and others. For the record, every one of them were very, very .. nice and respectable people. At their first apperance at the Taste Of Minnesota, we were driving the band back to the holel after the 4th of July fireworks, and they all agreed, that they couldn't believe the following of fans in Minnesota. As a footnote, the fans lined up to get albums signed, and with smiles and handshakes, Ambrosia spent a good couple hours extra doing it. They are truly an exceptional group of talented musicians. Also, the added members were the same way...special to say the least. Both my close friend and I were never able to cross paths onstage during their hayday, as we also had gigs to do in our band, and just never met up because of it. What an honor it was to sit, talk, share a meal, and help out. The memories are pure gold.
This shows how diverse & talented Ambrosia are. And also explains why Alan Parsons who worked on the last 2 Beatles albums & had just mixed Pink Floyd's DSOTM, chose to work with Ambrosia on their debut & follow up album. He had carte blanche in the industry and worked with Ambrosia before they had released an album. That would normally qualify for Name Dropping however in this case it makes a strong statement about Ambrosia and remains true to this day. Thank You For All The Great Music!
I love this song so much! I can hear it over and over again and never get sick of it. This is by far the best live version I have heard. Thank you for posting!
I’m so glad I grew up in the 60’s & 70’s because music had hit its zenith in songwriting & band diversity. There will never be another era like the 70’s.😎🔥
This song just hits all the right triggers with me, takes me right back to 1978, high school, teen angst, no clue about how simple life was and not even remotely equipt to deal with it than at any other time in my life. At 52, it is nice to get that escapism once in a while. Simply phenomenal talent, one of the first jam bands that paved the way for a lot of other folks.
I ran out and bought the single version of "Holding On..." it was on the radio at the time in '75. It didn't seem like music--it was beyond music: more like a message right into my heart about life.
Holding On To Yesterday - Lyrics "Well, I keep holdin' on to yesterday I keep holdin' enough to say that I'm wrong I keep thinking that I'm lonely But it's only missing you inside Days when we were once together Seems we'd never come alive So I keep holdin' on to yesterday I keep holdin' on enough to say that it's wrong Lord I don't know when I see you I can't reach you anymore Well if I'd only known I'd need you Then I'd keep you like before Well I keep holdin' on to yesterday (yesterday) I keep holdin' on enough to say That I'm wrong wrong wrong to keep holdin' on to yesterday My yesterdays have all gone by..."
I found this video while doing some prep for their upcoming 2019 show in Ohio. I was 15 when their first album came out. Can't wait to see them. One of the great American bands.
THANK YOU AMBROSIA AND FIREFALL FOR A GREAT EVENING OF SOME OF THE BEST MUSIC EVER WRITTEN, PENNS PEAK (JIM THORPE, PA.) SORRY FOR THE SMALL CROWD, I FELT SO BAD ONLY 200 PEOPLE IN ATTENDANCE MOSTLY DUE TO THE UPCOMING HURRICANE. I HOPE BOTH OF YOU CAN PLAY IN ATLANTIC CITY NJ SOON AT THE CASINOS. ME AND MY GF LOVE YOU GUYS SOOOOO MUCH, WE LIVE FOR 70'S MUSIC !! AND YOU GUYS ARE THE BEST. THANXXX AGAIN FOR A GREAT GREAT SHOW, IT EXCEEDED OUR EXPECTATIONS !!!! KEN LAMBERT
Oh my Lord, I now have a new favorite song. May the Lord bless you and keep you safe gentlemen and thank you from the bottom of my heart for sharing your gift with us. Have been a fan from the beginning but this video leaves me speechless. Used to cover several of your songs until I had a stroke years ago. Plan to see you in September '17 in St. Peters, MO. Can't wait. Safe travels and God bless,
Fantastic music from a long time ago...thanks for posting these super clean versions...true quality always stands the test of time! Greets from Connecticut!
Really tremendous band and sound. The studio version of this is also amazing -- unique guitar solo, bass, keyboards and superb vocals. Ambrosia never really got their due.
A true American jewel! Full of SOUL!!! The musicians of today need to wake up, take note and put this kind of soul back into music!!! It would do nothing but good for this country! This is "feel good music" unlike most of the useless noise that's perpetuating and filling the minds of society today... Kinda ironic song title, don't you think?
I just heard the original of this CLASSIC this morning at 5 am on my bedside radio and man, it STILL ROCKS !! There's a lot there and (speaking now) as a drummer, this guy killed it. Every fill was PERFECT, almost may I say "Ringo like." Thank you for it. 10.2.17
Great to see outlets like The Drum Channel recognizing one of my top influencing drummers in Burleigh Drummond. Some drummers have better chops, some drummers play faster, some drummers are better at polyrhythms but if the #1 priority is to integrate with the music, Burleigh is near the top of the list. He stands out by not calling attention to himself. That is, he plays exactly what the song calls for - no more no less.
Back in 1964, I met an my old crush that I haven't seen since Junior High and Lord, was he a hunk! We talked about old times and I wanted so bad to date him but he didn't ask since he was going with someone else. I heard this song and it just reminded me of him. Going back to yesterday where I should have asked him out regardless but too chicken to do so.
Beautiful voices in perfect harmony... LOVE this song. Great, great performance here. The words have always kinda creeped me out though, so sad... I've put this song on my dead son's FB as a tribute... he died Aug. 24, 2019 due to a drug overdose at age 38.
AMBROSIA......WHAT A GREAT BAND...SO VERY VERY VERY TRUE...LONG TIME AGO FOUND MY BEST FRIEND WITH MY GIRL....YOUR HEART FALLS TO THE FLOOR.AND I KEPT HOLDING ON...TILL I MET MY WIFE DEBBIE.HER BEAUTIFUL BLOND HAIR....TRULY A KNOCK OUT.....WE HAVE BEEN MARRIED 30 YRS TILL THIS DAY SHE STILL SAYS IT WAS HER LOSS AND MY GAIN...I WILL LOVE YOU FOREVER MY HANDSOME HUSBAND...
I'm sure as hell holding on to yesterday.. Times we're better. People had style and class and got along. Not the freak show we're witnessing in 2023...
Definitely 1 of the best, most musically sophisticated rock/pop/prog bands ever to come out of LA. You guys smoke !! And 'bout the most unheralded along with Love.
@DodgeFan439 I am only 25 yrs old. My mom used to have an old record. she died years ago and One thing I remember was this song. Finally I found it!!!! I agree, this is music, WOW!!!
The sound is Increadible to be Live!!! It's also Accurate to the song for a live performance. Just proves how great Ambrosia is. I was dating a lovely girl and we listened to their romantic songs.
Good version! Wow! I don't care what anyone else says, at least someone's still playing real music and doing it justice! _"Go Ambrosia"_ I don't even mind the harmonica!
All these years, I still can't believe how good this band is. Rick Cowlings is just amazing; vocals and guitar; and the rest of the band is so incredible. The way they compliment each other is just wonderful. I've loved all their music. This morning I'm playing these video's; smiling and singing along; man, what a band. Making my day; thanks Ambrosiaband.
God my first concert .I was 12, Ambrosia,Rory gallagher and Dave mason, awesome days.concerts use to last till 1 or 2 am was probably $6.00 ,now a days it's 100. And your on your way home at 10:00
I remember seeing the original video for this song back in the mid 70s. It was a family affair of sorts with the band singing in a living room setting with people sitting around. Great song and great band indeed. Great memories like my first kiss and my first joint in a dimly lit room with the stench of Patchouli everywhere and this song playing in the background. Magical days indeed.
I'm like some of you who had forgotten this song until I heard it again today. Thank you Sirius! This great song never gets airplay unlike You're The Only Woman, Biggest Part Of Me. Not a shock considering how bad FM radio is today.
Give me a thumbs up if you were lucky enough to grow up in the 70’s! When music like this took you to another galaxy 🎼✌️
👍🏻 The only music I'll to listen to is from the 70's.

Well said my friend. I too miss those days.
So lucky the 70's were "my time". They'll never again be a time like that for me.

70’s were such a fun time to grow up. Ambrosia was one of many great bands at that time. It’s a shame you can’t go back....
I was in high school when this song hit thr radio. What great times
Pure talent. They don’t make music like this anymore. I’ll keep holding onto yesterday ❤️
What a stunning version of this song! Where has all the talent in the music business gone? These guys are awesome.
THEY WENT TO GEORGIA & NASHVILLE ...
@@brachashighhopeshomestead226 David Pack did, the others are still together, and play out.

A great example of how great musicians remain so. You can't fake music like this. Timeless and terrific. The band sounds great and is great!
I agree. Man I'd go back to 70s and stay. Loved being a teenager and young adult; 15 yrs old to 25 yrs old.✌🇺🇸🎸🎹
Howard, you are right on, the musicianship is there and part of their soul.

Diggin this version more and more!!...Beautifully done!!..
I love the original but if they played this at a concert tomorrow, I wouldn't be disappointed. The feel and groove is still there.
That, ladies & gentlemen, is called TALENT.

Holding On To Yesterday - Lyrics
"Well, I keep holdin' on to yesterday
I keep holdin' enough to say that I'm wrong
I keep thinking that I'm lonely
But it's only missing you inside
Days when we were once together
Seems we'd never come alive
So I keep holdin' on to yesterday
I keep holdin' on enough to say that it's wrong
Lord I don't know when I see you
I can't reach you anymore
Well if I'd only known I'd need you
Then I'd keep you like before
Well I keep holdin' on to yesterday (yesterday)
I keep holdin' on enough to say
That I'm wrong wrong wrong to keep holdin' on to yesterday
My yesterdays have all gone by..."
YOU KNOW ITS GONNA BE A GREAT DAY WHEN YOU WAKE WITH THIS SONG IN YOUR HEART .......GOOD MORNING ROCKERS........
