This is how press junket interviews should be done. None of the film "journalists" asking the same questions over and over. Just get a couple of the cast in a room and record them having a chat. This is wonderful. Thanks, Netflix!
I think you've nailed it, this is the problem with the whole bit of being an actor/actress. They make the audience forget that these players are real people, not gods. This was a pleasure to watch, two coworkers having a chat on the job, because that's what this is.
I totally agree. A lot of journalists ask uninspired and dull questions, it irritates me that they get paid to do it. Totally undeserved. I feel the same way about critics, actually. Nobody should get paid to give their opinion. The very idea is so stupid lol.
Actors rarely get along this well AND feel comfortable chatting randomly in front of cameras. Credit to whoever realized what they had with these two. 🙂
I think the coolest thing about Helena is even though she doesn't find herself elegant, the way she carries herself so authentically and unapologetically is what makes her so beautiful and elegant. I'm so drawn to her and always wanting to hear what she has to say, she's well-spoken, funny, and kind. From everything I've seen and listened to from her, I just think the way her mind works is beautiful, I'd love to sit down and have a conversation with her so I could see things from her point of view and talk about life. I'm 19 and would be content if I could be half the woman that Helena is. She's timeless!
It's my understanding she had an affair with Emma Thompson's husband, Kenneth Branagh, many years ago, contributing to their divorce. People are complex. People are contradictions.
Olivia Played: Queen Anne, Queen Mother Elizabeth, Queen Elizabeth II and Carol Thatcher (Iron Lady's Daughter) Helena Played: Queen Mother Elizabeth and Princess Margaret
This is one of the most relaxed, candid and fun interviews I have ever seen! I was sat watching with a cup of tea and bizarrely felt like they were in my living room with me just having a natter. This is one of my new favourite things and is saved to my favourites for days when I need cheering up! When I grow up (at 33, hopefully it's not too far away now!) I want to be like these two!
This is strange in that it really feels like there’s no camera here and we are eavesdropping. Also Olivia Colman, think you do have a photographic memory...
This interview set up is so smart. Just let them talk and interview each other. Probably can't do it with everybody, but it works amazing with these two
I can't understand a word they are saying! And I don't feel that they complement each other. Olivia is having a time trying to carry on with Hellena. I would just rather hear Olivia!
I feel like this is the first time I've EVER seen two female actors JUST talking about their work xD not diets, clothing, men on set and how brilliant they were. Just Their own experiences in their own right
Maybe the scene in in Harry potter where Hermione takes polyjuice potion to look like Bellatrix and fails at wearing high heels is how Helena actually walks in high heels 😂
Emma did go and stay with Helena to Learn her mannerisms so it very well could be the case. But what’s even more amazing is that Helena was playing harmonie pretending you be bellatrix and she did it incredibly.
One of the many things I love about Olivia is the fact that everything she brings to her performances comes from within. It's such a contrast to what we normally hear from actors, all the research and method-based stuff. It's especially refreshing when she is asked if she did much research blah blah and she says no. Olivia is one of the best actors I've ever seen. She's phenomenally good.
I love the way that in one interview I watched Helena said Colin Firth never stops talking but in this Helena dominates the conversation ha ha and talks over the top of Olivia. Even with Helena’s bag lady clothes in normal life she still has the most beautiful face. Funny women. Olivia is so uncomplicated in her acting and so brilliant.
I love that even though Helena tried bringing this up several times during the interview, about Olivia’s process, you still hardly get one shred of any actual answer out of her- and so often you see Olivia deflecting and turning the same question back on Helena lol. Genius!
The funny thing is, though, in this video it seems like it's other way around. Helena seems like the sociable one, Olivia more reserved. I think they're probably both extrovert, but Helena is more excitable. That's likely why she has to learn lines in advance, even when they're few, as well. The stress can be too much for her, while Olivia, who's more calm, likes and maybe even needs the adrenaline.
@Lavelia True, I'm for all intents and purposes an introvert, but when I'm with people I know and like well enough, especially in one-on-one situations, I can be just as talkative as Helena here. :)
4:42 ‘yea, maybe you’re right...ooh!’ The ooh was her realizing just how right that is 😂😂 lovely of her to acknowledge so genuinely. As if there is any other way for Olivia.
Helena Bonham Carter is such a talented actress. She's played a variety of characters and can portray each one so well. Honestly this must be the most entertaining interview I have watched in ages. Helena and Olivia together are amazing 😁
Two of my favorite British queens enjoying a conversation. Now have Dames Judi Dench, Maggie Smith and Helen Mirren in an interview like and I can die happy.
I love how they have these two hilarious, batty ladies playing two prim and proper royal sisters 😂 (I mean Helena got her start in serious period dramas so this is like a return to her roots really but still)
Helena is basically related to royalty herself I think victor Hugo and Winston Churchill as well as further back some actual royal spanish nobles I think
Her grandmother was the closest female friend to Winston Churchill (outside of his wife) and her great grandfather was one of the Prime minister. I believe there was a link to the Rothschild family as well as a sibling of her grandmother married a minor Romanian Prince.
It's called a back-handed compliment. My mother was an expert at them On a side note, I love that HBC is 8 yrs older than Olivia, but playing her younger sister.
I love these two because they have different styles of acting and bringing in the characters. Olivia can’t flood her mind with details until right before and she is perfect. Helena must study to no end. Both brilliant in their own right.
This is basically two British aunts having a cup of tea on a sunny afternoon. Love it.
correction, on a rainy gloomy cold windy afternoon. lol
PFFF Yes, and to think HBC used to be so hot. Now she hit the wall.
Helena is your mom's sister and Olivia is your dad's
