5:11 "No matter how bad the shot is, at least you'll look good" - couldn't agree more. I love holding the Adam Scott pose as my ball sails into the trees. Then a club twirl to finish it off. My shots are ugly, so might as well have a pleasant-looking swing.
Just watched a the videos. This is such a good no nonsense guide Rick. Separating them into 6 videos makes it easier to remember the individual tips. I cant wait for the Complete Driver Guide! I agree, we need the same with chipping, bunkers and putting!
Mr. Shiels, not sure if this pops up in your comment section after 4 years, thank you. I struggled so long (better now) with the finish. Awesome video, truly appreciate the time and effort spent on this clip.
Rick, this is the best lesson in Golf one can find on UA-cam. It parallels, but simplifies Peter Cowen pyramid training, and modernizes Ernest Jones theory of swinging the clubhead. Well done!
Lovely video content! Forgive me for chiming in, I would appreciate your thoughts. Have you thought about - Paneevelyn Swinging Clubsman (Sure I saw it on Google)? It is a good one of a kind guide for revealing an effortless golf swing technique minus the hard work. Ive heard some interesting things about it and my mate at very last got great success with it.
Wow, Rick thanks so much for posting this series. I went through the driver guide, hit the range and then came back to work on this set. I've been playing for a long time but consistency has always been a struggle. You've done an excellent job of breaking the swing down into manageable steps. I can't believe this was free.
you need a deep grove wedges best one niki 2012 deep grove the fella I golf with and he is a 30 hadicap but he make the ball check up every time. he even makes the ball frails even 30 yards of the green we get a charge out of it.
Im a golfer who’s just starting back after 28 years off. A going back to basics start off seems to be the way to go. Your videos are well presented and full of great informative tips. Many thanks Rick, brilliant
The best instruction video I have ever watched, 100% basic Northern common sense unlike so many American coaches who just drone on for hours leading to complication of thought and action. Further more as a golfer of over 30 years of struggle from trying so many `techniques and tips` Rick`s instruction is straightforward to practice and works 100%. And here was silly old me thinking that all he did was testing clubs.
I used to play as a kid and now want to get into golf again. These videos really helped me see some of the mistakes and errors I never corrected. Thanks a lot, great short and simple guide.
This series changed my golf game forever. Part 1 (grip) shaved 3 strokes off my game without ever swinging a club. After 200 swings practicing Part 2, 3 and 4, I shaved 2-3 more strokes. Rick, you are the man. Thank you so much for sharing this instruction for free
Rick I have admired your swing thru SO many club demos while trying to find a set of irons that suit a 70 year old after a 20 year layoff from this great game. Thank you for providing the most complete and common sense approach to the basic golf swing that I have seen on public media. Your presentation is very easy to understand. Thank you!
This is by far the most simple and yet the most comprehensive golf swing video series I have viewed. As a beginner/intermediate golfer I would like to thank you for being so simple, to the point, and professional in your presentation of the material. This will undoubtedly help my golf game. Thank you, Rick.
Thank you Rick, this series reminded me of two basic elements. I'm going to delete the hundreds of different golf swing videos and keep this series and work on this for a while in the off season. Well done 👏 ✔️ 👍
This series is quite simply THE best swing guide for a new golfer. As you mention in the series, many coaches make it too complicated. Everything any golfer needs to know about swinging the club is in these vids. Well done Rick and thanks, it's helped a lot!
Classy set of guides Rick, love it. One of the best pieces of golf advice I ever heard was on an old vid of yours I saw a few months ago "hit the ball hard, don't slow your down swing down thinking speed is the reason for a bad strike, it isn't the speed that's the problem, it's some other factor in your technique that's sending you offline". It has helped me massively, thanks!
Thanks for the video content! Excuse me for the intrusion, I would appreciate your opinion. Have you heard the talk about - Paneevelyn Swinging Clubsman (do a google search)? It is a good one off guide for revealing an effortless golf swing technique minus the headache. Ive heard some decent things about it and my m8 after a lifetime of fighting got great results with it.
Thankyou very much Rick, you have simplified and explained so easily the entire golf swing,i found it unbelievably helpful,i hit close to 300 balls each Saturday over a 3 to 4 hour period at the practice range ,and by following your guidance within two weeks of repetitional hitting, my consistancy and accuracy has improved immensely, i play off a handicap of 12 now , the enjoyment i get from a confident ,relaxed swing and improved accuracy is immense. i now own a set Ping G400s' having just traded in my g-maxs' ,and i agree completely with your assessment of these clubs ,what a joy it is to use them. i look forwards to watching your future video reviews yours sincerely Darrell Langcake. Rick, this is absolutely fantastic. I’m an absolute beginner - I watched these videos and they helped me go from shanking 9/10, to literally hitting 8/10 160 plus yds with my 6 iron, the very next session. Absolutely loved the simplicity of it. Thank you!!
I love this series! I got fitted into a new driver this past year and for some reason my iron shot, which used to be my bread and butter, just fell apart. I’m so glad I found this because I didn’t even realize all the little errors I had let sneak into my game until hearing you break it down so simply. The craziest part is this series just reminded me what I had been doing when things were working. It had become so frustrating compensating for so many small errors to the point that my swing looked completely different. I just had two of my best rounds of golf, and this series just made the sport fun again. Thank you Rick for all of your content and giving me back my confidence, accuracy, and consistency.
You're a Top Notch instructor. Loved the series and like others.., would like to see driver and wedge series. Kid you not.., played last Friday and because of your swing tips.., I shot my best round EVER.., 82..! I want so much to break 80. Just maybe in 6/8 months. Thx Rick
I think this is a great idea that will help beginners and mid-handicappers who are searching for an actual improvement in their game! Going on the internet looking for guides can be really counterproductive, as alot of videos has a tendency to be very much about fixes - or certain areas of technique which always has a way of becoming in depth. Resulting in the birth of a whole new set of problems as you work on whatever you've seen a guy on youtube talk about. I guess this is the big issue of making instructional videos.. You've adressed it pretty damn straight. This is simple, understandable, and I honestly think that most golfers out there would benefit from watching this. Great content Rick, looking forward to more videos like these!
Rick, I hit the range today after watching this (and your driver series) last night. Im not joking when I say my first iron shots and first drive were PERFECT with a little baby draw! Now, I have plenary to work on in making that repeatable but the lesson was BRILLIANT!
This video series couldn't have been timed any more perfectly. I recently picked up a golf club for the first time since I was maybe 10 years old. I used to accompany my dad and his friends to the driving range and on a couple of occasions around the course too. Now at the ripe old age of 29 I've decided to take up golf as a hobby that gets me out of the house and into the fresh air every once in a while. Went to the driving range last weekend, remembered small amounts of what I learned as a kid and have been watching your videos for the whole week in hopes of finding something just like this series. The first thing I can honestly say is that I have been trying to force power to come from my arms, rather than the rotation force of my torso, this is likely due to having a bad back and being fairly inflexible in that respect, but I now know what I can do to correctly use what rotation I can get to create a somewhat powerful shot. My grip has been concerning me too, I walked away with blisters on the middle finger and thumb of my bottom hand, which now appears to be due to having it too far round to the top of the club, rather than wrapping underneath fully, and the club twisting when striking the ball due to a poor grip. I've also noticed that I lift up at the point of impact and end up topping the ball a lot of the time, this is probably because of my stance not being correct, both at set up and through the swing, I'm either not leaning far enough forward, or I'm standing up at some point during the swing, and possibly leaning onto my back foot on the down swing. I just goes to show how important each individual piece is to making up the whole swing when it comes to producing a good shot. Thanks for the awesome content Rick, also your overlays and visual graphics are spot on, they have really helped me visualise the individual aspects of the swing.
Hey Rick, On one of your videos I thanked you for renewing my fervor for the game of golf. Well it finally happened.... I got my first hole in one!!! Again I have to thank you for your charm, humor and most importantly simplifying such a complex sport. I've introduced the game to a few of my co-workers and of course referred them to "The Man" Rick Shiels. Again thank you!!!
Rick, I've been watching your for many years and just want to say that your videos, lessons & content just keep getting better and better! Keep up the great work!!!
Picked the game up at an adult age, playing a little bit for the 2 last years. Being analytical as a person, I've identify my issues and tried working on them through various drills etc, but not really getting the improvement I was expecting, kind of stuck. This probably because I was attacking the issue instead of the root cause. I then watched this series, and decided I didnt want to make corrections anymore, I would perfect the key points that you describe. And the differnece, just wow. The problems I've had (pushing irons, hitting thick, hitting thin) have all gone away due to just following the instructions in the video. I stated from video one and kept going. In my case, the hip bump have made my contact much more solid and the swing plane corrections that I have made is making me shoot pretty straight, not at a draw yet though. This is a great series, and I will use it to teach my wife that is started to get interested, instead of letting her go through what I have and making the same mistakes. I can't wait for the driver one! Thanks for a great channel, keep it up!
I had my first 1 on 1 lesson yesterday and I must say my follow-through was my most neglected part of my swing. I never really thought about it being so important. My coach helped correct my follow-through and WHAT A DIFFERENCE it made!
Watching these videos again because I've been consistently hitting my irons fat. Thanks for the instructional videos. I absolutely love them and find your tips concise and easy to put into practice.
this whole series was so well done, every golfer should watch this. the instruction was simple and to the point, yet so accurate and helpful. thank you Rick!
I just finished watching your " Complete golf swing guide". It is simply the best i have seen. So simple that any level of golfer can use for their practice routine. Thank you so much. Ps i realy enjoy all of you videos. Specially the reviews. From you Northen Québec fan
Dear Rick, thank you for your videos. These are absolutely brilliant! I watched other golf tutorials, but nothing compares to your videos, detailed descriptions, and your sense of humour. I am a new golfer, some days are better than others. These are good reminders, back to basics. Thank you again.
After spending a small fortune on lessons where the coach changed my grip, stance and swing leaving me totally confused and confidence gone this guide has simplified everything.. Brilliant Rick can't wait for the driver guide your a credit to your profession 👏
I so appreciate this series. I've watched it two or three times now, and am just starting golf at 54, here in the states. I'm working on the short game first, and have enjoyed many of your vides, esp about the chipping too.
4 years later this still does the job. After 6 months of learning this video series REALLY has improved my game this last few weeks. I just couldn’t get the hip rotation and turn mastered - and you’ve put it so simple that it’s just clicked! Thanks Rick 🙏 ⛳️
Getting to a full follow through seems to square everything up at impact and the results are straighter. I've spent most of my days at an abbreviated finish as Rick demonstrated but the "icing on the cake" is worth adopting. The quality of strike feels awesome.
Once again I got to thank you Rick. I have watched the series before was having some problems with my swing. Had my friend video my swing notice that my follow through was lacking and was able to refer to this guide really stressed and important points especially how the follow through is often overlooked, especially in my case. Now I need to go outside and practice.
I get quite far away from golf and my swing in the Winter months, and it is often puzzling and time consuming to start over in the Spring. Your series has given me a great place to begin and several important things to work on. Looking forward to seeing how it translates to the outdoors very soon! Many thanks! Cheers!
That's what I'm saying lol. I was a 10 handicap about 15 years ago. A 12h 10 years ago and now I am an 18 because I didn't shoot for 2 years. Seemed like I could not get back to consistent, so I watched this series to break it all down. I was keeping my wrists straight and had the ball always centered in my stance. Stupid things to forget, but damn are they important lol
Found this for a beginner. Ended up watching it myself first and took away a couple of really useful pointers - set up and "the swing arc" image. Took them to the course and driver and long irons has never gone further or straighter.
Excellent...the simplicity of the instruction was key for me...too many instructors just confuse us...you are the best...look forward to driver, chipping and putting!
Thanks Rick! I've only been subscribed to your channel a couple months now, but I love the Complete Guide videos!!!! when I have lost my swing between a 7 and 6 iron or can't seem to grip for my life, I go back to these for a reset. Valuable!! Thank you! Dan
Really good job of breaking it down. Even as a left handed golfer your instruction was easy to follow. Going to take it all to the range and work on it. Thanks
I’ve only been watching your videos for the past month and already my golf game has improved although there’s still a lot of work to do. At least now with your videos I’ve got some direction, thanks very much.
I really get so much out of your video instruction because you keep it simple! No excess technical verbiage. Thank you. I believe I will improve if I follow your pointers!
Absolutely fantastic series, I had 10 lessons with a PGA pro in the greater Manchester area and never once did he explain the golf swing in any detail. Brilliant rick driver next please.
Rick, I've noticed in your reviews, etc that you hit balls very well. So, when I went thorough the Guide, I noticed some things that will help me in my golf. One of the best approches that I have seen. Thanks. FJ
Best golfvideo i see ever! Perfect explanations, super professional visualization. And also for someone, who has been playing golf for 20 years. many thanks and best greetings from germany from Rüdiger
So far so good this series of videos, which allows me to have a better understanding of every phase of the golf swing. After many years of bad feelings about my grip, I just follow the guidance of the video, then boom I broke the 100. Many thanks, Rick you are an amazing instructor.
Your video on how to take a divot past the ball is the best explanation I've watched, ever! As a result, my entire swing has changed (& improved) for the better. I thought I was "rotating my arms around my body" but after watching your video, I realized... I was not even remotely close (to executing a proper swing). &, now I know, every solid shot I've hit in my life (before your video) was blind luck. Now, for the first time in my golfing life, my divots begin past the ball! Yippee-Kai-Yay! btw, I'm 62 and in good shape and fitness. I learned after watching that video, if I wanted to play this game, well, and execute shots with reasonable consistency, I need to get in better shape, get my legs and core much stronger & and, without question, improve my flexibility. It's not enough, imho, to just know how to swing a club. If you don't have the fitness and strength to maintain DYNAMIC balance through the entire swing process, you will still hit miserable golf shots. Nonetheless, thank you, Rick, for this wonderful instructional series. It's really helped me alot and I'm so much happier on the course because of you!
Rick, Thank you for the Complete Golf Swing Guide. I enjoyed watching the entire series, and I learned a great deal from your instruction. It was informative, practical, and straightforward. This is to say that it was not overwhelming. Your efforts are greatly appreciated.
Terrific series, Rick. Thanks very much for taking the golf swing, breaking it down into steps and making it very easy to understand. I look forward to using these videos to make my golf game more efficient.
Hi there Rick! I went to the range yesterday and tried these lessons for the first time. I must say they helped quite a lot. More than anything else I saw consistency and accuracy that I didn't have before. Most of my muffed shots were from me coming up out of my stance too soon to see how close to flag I was getting. LOL. I also found I was getting great stopping ability (back spin) with my wedges that I never had before...and with range balls!! Looking forward to trying this stuff on the course. I have yet to try your driver lessons to use but soon will. I wanted to to get this set of lessons going first since this is the majority of the golf game. Thanks for the help you've provided.
Very good stuff! I’m 41 and have played golf most of my life socially until the last year. I play once or twice a week and have a terrible time correcting an over the top swing. I’ve watched a lot of your content and love it. My back swing comes inside and causes the over the top action on down swing. It’s really hard to get rid of it. I’m working on it though. Appreciate these videos.
Thanks for putting together a great guide Rick. Covered all the basics, easy to digest, and also great video production quality (eg on a course w/ graphics vs the standard driving range videos). As you pointed out in the intro, these are absolutely 100% useful for any golfer whether a beginner or a more seasoned hacker. Best part is that you put out the whole guide at once! I'll be coming back & back & back to this guide with some regularity I think. Thanks again!
great help Rick! golf has been going downhill, just what I needed. would love the same style of series on driving, chipping/pitching/bunkers and putting.. not much to ask..
Who the kufc downvotes this series? Thanks so much. I’m a golfer and I really learned some things that will help me. I watch all your videos, so thanks again.
Thank you so much Rick. I am recently back to golf after major neck surgery and slowly getting my grip and swing back. Your videos have helped tremendously with my focus and mindfulness of the basics. I am looking forward to the driver series. Keep up the good work.
Recently new to golf, just watched the full guide and it has helped me understand more and it's the less complicated tutorial I've seen, thank you!!!!!!
Just found your golf guide on my computer. There is no question in my mind that English golf professionals in general and you in particular give the easiest and most comprehensive guide to the entire golf swing I have ever seen. The 3 C's-clear, concise and correct. Too bad I live in Toronto, Canada, I would love to come to you for a lesson or two. Arnie Markowitz
The finish is so important because you have to do everything perfect to get into that final pose. The pose is my single swing thought. Has been transformative. Thank you for this great video.
These videos have helped me out a lot, only been golfing for a couple seasons, and these have given me a lot to think about when I'm practicing and playing a round. Thanks Rick.
Hey Rick, I know I've commented a couple of times on this series, but just wanted to post one more! I hit the course today (Forest Hills near Lancaster in the North West) and after watching this series, I can't even tell you the improvement in my game. I had a couple of swing thoughts that helped so much! The wrist action you mentioned on the back-swing and the grip video! I've never struck the ball so well, as I did this afternoon; must have got 20 yards more out of my irons. Even my Driver improved but would love a series on the driver and chipping. Thanks so much man, there are so many videos out there, some go really deep and are long and drawn out, but I find this format to be just perfect! I'm hoping I can come and visit you or Pete in Burnley over the summer for a couple of lessons, but in the meantime, I will keep working and re-watching this series. Keep up the great work bro! (oh and I wasn't a big fan of the beard, but it's starting to grow on me haha) Happy golfing mate! Rodge
Thank you so much, this has helped me soooooooo much. Each time I go out I will watch your videos. I would love set up for drivers and putting and anything else you would like to share. I starting golf after 30 years and have taken private lessons, but cannot go back to listen again. Everything you explain in this series I am having trouble with. Thank you for taking the time to help us all.
Hi Rick, I'm a 5ft female that's just beginning to get into golf and I'm only going to the driving range right now so I can practice my swings. My husband and our friends golf but they're not very good teachers lol I found your series soo helpful and informative and simple to understand esp for newbies like myself. Plus your editing is a great touch, so thank you! I would love if you could please do a series on drivers and putting as well
Outstanding series Rick, absolutely loved it!! You're the only golf channel I watch on UA-cam and you have helped me drop 30+ strokes in a short amount of time. I can't thank you enough!! Really enjoyed the series format and the editing/graphics.
The golf swing & driver guides are both fantastic! I would absolutely benefit from a complete short game & putting guides. Your graphics are extremely helpful.
Hi Rick did as you said and watched the full series, lots of great pointers and things to work on starting with getting the club more into the fingers of my left hand and not so much the palm. That's stage one then work my way through the rest of the series chunk by chunk. Thanks again⛳️😃
Great complete guide. After years of swinging a bat at a little round ball and going for a frustrating circular walk, you have given me confidence to actually get out there and attempt some proper golf. On the practice range getting used to proper hitting of the ball while looking silly, instead of just feeling silly, for these winter months. Can’t wait for next year to go for a proper circular walk and enjoying it with more self satisfaction.
5:11 "No matter how bad the shot is, at least you'll look good" - couldn't agree more. I love holding the Adam Scott pose as my ball sails into the trees. Then a club twirl to finish it off. My shots are ugly, so might as well have a pleasant-looking swing.
Mango Man and plus if your finish looks good that means you swing and your shots will start to look good as well
This made my day. Well played sir.
Thats hilarious, The Adam Scott pose as my ball sails into the trees !! brought tears to my eyes !!
Mango Man so true....
Twirls for the squirrels. Lol.
Rick: I could stand here the vast majority of the day. Also Rick: I got a cramp on my foot
Just watched a the videos. This is such a good no nonsense guide Rick. Separating them into 6 videos makes it easier to remember the individual tips. I cant wait for the Complete Driver Guide! I agree, we need the same with chipping, bunkers and putting!

putting best part of my game. remember the putter and your arms is a pendulum. dot move your head or your legs. best tip I can give you.

After a long time off golfing, this series is exactly what I needed. Superb instruction and keeping golf simple!
Started playing golf one and a half years back. I still goof up with the swing. This video shall be of help as it explains the basics clearly.
Im a golfer who’s just starting back after 28 years off. A going back to basics start off seems to be the way to go. Your videos are well presented and full of great informative tips. Many thanks Rick, brilliant

Rick, this series is excellent. The definitive, step by step breakdown of the 'irons' golf swing.
Rick. These videos were extremely helpful. And at times also funny and entertaining. Don't ever stop making them. Thanks.

This is the best golf video I have seen, you manage to simplify things which other golf instructors complicate, thank you.
This never gets old and when I need a recalibration I watch your video series. The Driver guide fixed my driving so I hope this fixes my iron hitting.
I just finished watching your " Complete golf swing guide". It is simply the best i have seen. So simple that any level of golfer can use for their practice routine. Thank you so much. Ps i realy enjoy all of you videos. Specially the reviews.
From you Northen Québec fan
Been playing for 20 years. Best swing guide I’ve come across and it’s not even close. Thank you ✊🏻
This series and the driver series is absolute gold!! If you ever film a putting series I will be the first to watch!
Just an excellent series of mini classes on how to swing properly. Thanks so much!
I so appreciate this series. I've watched it two or three times now, and am just starting golf at 54, here in the states. I'm working on the short game first, and have enjoyed many of your vides, esp about the chipping too.
I’ve been playing golf for 30+ years and never learned some of the things you’ve covered in this series. Thank you so much for making these videos!
You are the best golf instructor I have ever seen. Your iron and driver videos are fantastic!
Found this for a beginner. Ended up watching it myself first and took away a couple of really useful pointers - set up and "the swing arc" image. Took them to the course and driver and long irons has never gone further or straighter.
Excellent production of information for a frustrated golfer. Thank you very much Rick.
Absolute class series Rick.I love golf again, you never let me down when I'm lost in my swing.
Congrats with well over 2M subscribers.
Awesome glad you enjoyed the video series!
Rick, I've noticed in your reviews, etc that you hit balls very well. So, when I went thorough the Guide, I noticed some things that will help me in my golf. One of the best approches that I have seen. Thanks. FJ
The series served as great refresher lessons as my season gets fully underway. Thank you!
Awesome to hear! 🙌
Thanks for the the series on the basics of the golf swing. Now to get out and put it into play. Thanks again.
Rick, Thank you for the Complete Golf Swing Guide. I enjoyed watching the entire series, and I learned a great deal from your instruction. It was informative, practical, and straightforward. This is to say that it was not overwhelming. Your efforts are greatly appreciated.
Rick is the best. nobody else on youtube or the internet comes close
Thanks rick - brilliant as always. The best golf lesson series on UA-cam by a long, long way
Terrific series, Rick.
Fantastic series Rick! The wrist set in the back swing is what I've been needing in my swing. Can't wait for the driver series.
This whole series was a great help. Thoroughly enjoyed it
I just watched this series and now I’m off to the range to review my swing. Very clear explanation.
Great video Rick, made a lot of sense as something that most golfers I see get wrong every time on the golf course. This really helps. Cheers
One of the best descriptions about right side follows through, bravo!
Hi Stewart. Thanks for the comment. More series like this already being planned. thanks
Rick what happend with the guides? i would love a chipping guide aswell :D
Thanks Rick - sitting here with my 7yo grandson before I take him out to the course, He loves it already and we'll see what your coaching can do!
Very good tuition Rick, nice and simple with easy to remember check points. A great refresher for established golfers too.
Thanks so much
Rick thanks for releasing all videos at once👍 good to be reminded that it's quite simple
The finish is so important because you have to do everything perfect to get into that final pose. The pose is my single swing thought. Has been transformative. Thank you for this great video.
Love watching your videos. You simplify the golf swing. You are a great teacher!
I greatly appreciate this guide. I am just beginning, and your demonstration focuses on the key elements to strive for consistency.
This series was a pleasure to view.
Rick, that is fantastic. Too many people focus on the backswing and get into trouble. This was a great video on how to finish
Brilliant, thanks Rick. This is something I am going to refer to back to on my quest for a handicap and increased enjoyment of golf.
