- How to programme epic percussion. Join Guy Michelmore as he pouts a brand new epic percussion sample library through its paces. Damage 2 from Heavyocity is a much anticipated percussion library but in this sample library review, does it live up to the hype? I'm not paid to review or promote this software. I get a review copy and I only review software I like.

I've been in a musical rut for a while now and now I finally found my source of inspiration: now, before every session, I watch you composing for about 15 minutes. Your joy and excitement is truly contagious! Plus, I bought me some "biscuits of inspiration" today. That should improve it even more! Thanks for your content, Guy! This is my favourite music-related channel.

I totally agree!! 👍
Love how he loves to teach! no matter what genre you like, this guy is a legit teacher.
Yes! 🥰🙂
Still relevant 2023. Haha, thanks Guy. I love this channel. Seriously make me laugh while I learn. It's like the best days working in the studio with awesome peeps. Makes writing music/songs the way it should be, an absolute blast!
I can’t get enough of Guy, keep the content coming 🔥
Been over a week since finding you Guy, sure as hell been a WEEK. Thank you.
Yes Guy, you have become my favorite UA-cam pit stop for info and inspiration. Thanks you immensely.
I spent a long time looking for a good percussion library I like that can do everything I need. Damage 2 is really the nuts. Its inspiring but allows you to get inside and create insane detail too.
Great tutorial as always Guy.
This is the video I needed today. Great work dude!
Ive been waiting for a video like this! Thank you Guy!

Really great video, Thank you Guy for taking the time to give this in depth explanation !
love the way you did the video! Love your energy man!! Brilliant!
Another GREAT video. Suggestion - I’d love for Guy to make a video about his current all time favorite sample libraries / plugins and why. Keep it up ... I’m learning a lot and having fun doing it.
Love your videos and sense of humor keep the great content coming :)
I always see these terrific videos about creating amazing pieces and sounds on these expensive plugins. I'd love to see a video on creating full pieces of music with only free software. Not only do I think it'd be an awesome challenge, but it would drastically in creating scores for student films I'm working on. Thanks Guy! You're the best.
He's done that before with the Spitfire Labs stuff.
Hahaahh I loved the water cup shot after you hit the key for Armageddon
Always great info and passion!
you are an amazing maestro , all your videos are really well made , it is joy to learn from you ,thanks
Guy gives me life, as well as some of these damage 2 patches phew!
It's so nice to see that childish joy emerge at 10:25, you can clearly see Guy has maintained such a passion for music.
Man.. I had writers block for 2 weeks trying to come up with an idea for this scene Im working on, I was tinkering with Damage 2.. but was a bit over whelmed with all of the options and trying to decide what to go with...hearing the ethnic, rises, and mids gave me me some cool ideas to finish the music for this scene. This helped my writers block, thank you.
Thankyou for this.
Your videos are amazing!
Thank you for a great video.
Such a wonderful and creative library, Damage 2!
Yes please! Aspergers Welcome says it would be great to know of alternative solutions to Kontakt, for us budget restricted, yet enthusiastic composers! Your channel is fantastic.
Spitfire audio has a series called labs. It has some pretty cool free sounds.
They also have a series called originals 30 bucks a pop. Great stuff in there.
I love your content!!
Great tutorial
It's fantastic software. Especially for pros on deadlines. The only downside being that the second you hear it, you know it's Damage and I'm sure 2 will become as ubiquitous as 1 (Typing this as I'm watching and Guy has just said the same thing) So my above is slightly mute now! 😌
As someone with endless time to noodle, I like to find my own bits/samples which I like to manipulate myself but as ever, fantastic products and superbly demonstrated by Guy as usual 👍
Love the track!
Great special effects! Good fun!! 😂
One thing i would like you to check out is output’s products. Especially the analog strings, brass and woodwinds, and substance. Spitfire and Output even collaborated to make Overture and there arent any videos that really show what it is.
Nice video, as always.
You really should try loading all your NKS libraries with the Komplete Kontrol plugin, I am sure that you will enjoy the flashing lights on your S88 even more!!
love the 'visual clues'
Thanks Guy
Very nice and helpful ..
Thrilling!
Informative and entertaining.
I'm still looking forward to your take on a Western. No rush.
Ah but will he use fluffy's Spaghetti vst or just wing it?
@@mellifluousfable Ah! You've got me there, Mel. 🙄
Kittens dancing on clouds Ocity. HAHAHAHA you're a living Legend
Please do one on trailer percussion too :) Love you Guy!
I was waiting for this video for a long time because as you said in the last video Rythm is vital and this is IT!btw.. would you have a look on OT Metropolis Ark 4? I just got it and it's astonishing for only 50 Gbs and not much ram.
This old man is crazy. Love it! haha
Got it on sale! :)
Great Job Guy.
The track made me think of that Sherlock Holmes movie with Robert Downey Jr. the part where they are running through the forest.
The track could have worked for that with the drum hits being the gunfire or something similar.
Really good one this.
Even after all these years, It's Good to See Cubase 5!
Heavyocity makes the best Instrument Plugins. The quality is great.
The Hello everybody intro is killing me :)
Epic!
Guy, what would be a good Synth Vst to get started with for film music? Diva? Serum? Zebra 2? Which is the easiest to learn?
Hey Guy! I'm new to your channel, but I quite like the videos I've seen so far! I was wondering roughly how much a Cubase setup like yours would cost? I'm thinking of getting something similar to what you have and I'm wondering if it will already come with a huge library of instruments and sounds, or if I will have to purchase those separately. Thanks!
could you make another random genre challenge video, really liked the last one
I am watching your fabulous channel since a while and I must admit that I am short from cancelling my subscription for it. Very often it is causing trouble with my wife when some of the gear you use is arriving in my house. Thank god that Damage2 is not visible to my wife as it is downloading right now. I just hope she does not look in the wrong folder in my mailbox though:)
Your videos are great, thanks!
PLEASE put a POP filter though when you speak, listening in headphones one really suffers. Happy new year!
Anxiously waiting for a Damage 2 sale
Great video! I have HZ perc and have been looking for this kind of video! Would you recommend Spitrfire Studio Woodwinds? Currently at sale?
Guy - how'd you program your Stream Deck to respond the different instruments - seems like each key is a different instrument? Willing to share??? :-). Thanks sir! Always enjoy your vids! Cheers!

At 7:40, how do you get the top bar to be in the negatives? Like -1, -2, etc. Also how to add another bar under the bars, of seconds?
I try keepforest RiSENGE it work perfectly with damage 2
I'm assuming you can adjust the pitch for percussion that blends tone with The Hammer of God type sounds. Correct?
Yes...good video tutorial.
I'm a new sub... Love the content, and enjoy your creative approach too, but the voice in this specific episode is driving my sub-woofer NUTZ! I think you may have double processed your voice on this one... LOL
"Light and Fluffy-O-city." LMAO!
I'm sure you've heard of it Guy, but you should do a video on Friktion Modeled Strings for Reason by Reason Studios. Would love to hear your take on it!
Love this. I was listening on Spotify to the Doctor Strange score. Did you use a real orchestra for that? It's absolutely amazing.
For the movie or an animated show?
You’re my teacher.
U r just awesome
hello Guy, another great video! question: what is the small touch screen with the cubase shortcuts near your keyboard?
That's a StreamDeck XL
@@petehanratty950 thx, he talked about it in a previous video :).... i didn't know...
@@jibi9275 Yeah, I bought one because of him! I gotta quit watching these, costing too much $$
Can you make these drums completely dry of reverb? I'm asking coz I'm doing another genre and used to setting more broad (needs to be high Q) reverb groups to instruments to get the same-room feel. Otherwise it gets too chaotic. These drums here feel in another space... separated. Is this actually a problem for professionals (I am not one)? Do they have close mic recordings is what I mean I guess...
what vst are you using for those synth pulse sounds?
Hi there, not related, but! Is there any chance you could do a run down on non-kontakt orchestral software libriaries, instruments (Providers), extra, some of are on very tight budget but still would like to get into classical composition, please. I'm having trouble. Any help would be so much appreciated. I love your video's and am watching them regularly. Thank you Guy, I'm glad you are well :-)
If you haven't yet checked out Spitifre Labs, that is a good place to start. East West Audio's composer cloud is a huge library of instruments that use a quite affordable subscription model. I bought a year up front for access to their choirs, but look forward to exploring that as well.
The Spitfire BBC Orchestra is free, if you fill out a survey. 2 weeks later, you get the link for the free download. If you can't wait, 49,- (I forgot the currency, dollar, pounds or euro) is your price.
Would a 6 core 12 thread pc at around 4.4ghz, 32gb ram, be enough for some classical composition please sir.
How did you bind your streamdeck to render in place. That menu item seems to have no shortcut (really annoying).
My kontakt window cuts whenever I load a library like damage 2 which causes the kontakt window to increase its size inside cubase. Can anyone help me please?
Firstly fantastic job and I’m so excited to get all these new kits. Secondly what’s that black tablet you keep pressing to record?
Mohammad probably his video switcher for camera angles. This will answer all your questions on his gear. 😊 ua-cam.com/video/tIA3i0dplRA/v-deo.html

@@JPDC624 Thanks man I appreciate that
@@ThinkSpaceEducation Thank you so much good sir! Love your work!
what is Guy's setup?? Can a video be made of this please? :)
Great video.. Loved it.. What's that tablet kinda thing on your right that you use to record.. Please make a video on that.. Is it useful? How does it work? What is it called?
he talks about it here: ua-cam.com/video/tIA3i0dplRA/v-deo.html
@@guycampbell733 thank you 😊
What happened to the high end on your mic after you came back inside??? Dropped it for a brighter mic and left it there? Cuz, man that's boomy. Loaded up Ableton and looked at the real time spectrum.. Just about zero energy between 2 and 6 kHz. Recorded a few seconds.. a nice wide boost at 3 kHz makes it much more listenable.
Hi Guy, I'm trying to decide on a percussion library, and I'm sort of leaning toward either the Native Instruments Symphony Series, or Damage 2, as I'd be able to use both with the free Kontakt player, and I can currently get them for the same price. I'm torn because I'm interested in the organic sound and articulations like tremelos and crescendo rolls I'd get with Symphony Series, but the dramatic stuff, plus things like the reverse cymbal options in Damage 2 are also really appealing. I'm curious if the stuff in Damage 2 can accomplish more or less the same thing (albeit more dramatically) as in the Symphony Series, or if they'd just be entirely different altogether. I'm just starting out with programming this kind of stuff, and I can only afford one of them so it's a tough choice to make.
don’t go with the Symphony Series, man.... it really isn’t good. Choose either Damage 2 for epic or East West Hollywood Percussions for traditional orchestral percussion.
Guy, what happened to your Mic-sound?
I’m not really sure what this is going to have that the first one didn’t... it was a pretty complete library and I get something different every time I use it.
Guy, what controller is it on the right hand of your side? You use it for record/stop etc. and it looks so handy!

Thx 👍🏼
❤️
Do the baywatch theme epic intro percussion line 😍
Hi guy!
Good review ... alas I kinda lack money to get that thing, ..., now at least
The synth sound reminds of Destiny 2 Soundtrack
Guy, an offtopic question, now that u used the s88 for a while.. what's is your opinion about it now?
Wondering the same thing.
This would be an ideal lib for Bambi 3. Bambi knows people, you do know that, don't you?
I have spitfire Albion one's percussion and Audio Imperia NUCLEUS and also BBC orchestra core library, I have trubble with making percussion recordings with them, so I have been looking at Strike force's percussion and many others!
so... Strike force or damage 2? or is there something else I should check out? If some one could give me like a top 5 list of percussion libraries I would be happy
If you want „epic“, than there only is one answer: Damage 2!👍
Hey Guy! What do you think about Komplete 13? It has a lot of good stuff including Noire!
i need to check it out
Is this the start of a new craze - UA-cam videos in a car park? ;)
Could you please make a video review on spitfires “solo strings”?
the original small strings are great
Guy Michelmore thanks. I inspire to be like you. The solo strings will be my first big spitfire purchase. I have discover bbc and all the originals.
Is there a sound library that includes Guy Excitement Noises?
The forthcoming Damage 3
great video can u find some free epic percussion samples. I have been having trouble trying to find free percussion samples.
check Splash Sound Epic Percussion free. (for kontakt full)
@@samuelfranco.musica extremely unlikely. I'm pretty sure libraries that work with kontakt player(the free version) have to pay a fee to NI, which means they have to charge for the library.
@@samuelfranco.musica Yup, it's unfortunate, but it is what it is. I'd suggest looking for a free sfz player and some compatible libraries as an alternative, if kontakt isn't feasible.
@@samuelfranco.musica Ohh good!
One thing I can recommend is the "SCC Taikos" library. It runs on Plogue's sforzando sampler, which is free.
I have damage 1 and feel like damage 2 is much more advanced in terms of parameters right ?
Its better all round
Which orchestra bundle would you advise as best price quality stuff? Albion 1 ?
Hi', I'm a bit lost in the jungle of orchestra ensemble vsts/plugins/bundles. Could you help to advise on the best compromise between quality/price and musicality ? Thx a lot Guy and team !
Depends if you want ensembles or individual sections. I would either start with Albion One (ensembles) or BBCSO Core (individual sections).

I think you forgot your hi pass filter on your mic 😀
What is a cheap Perc library Incan get?
