- After the birth of his son, 1998 marked a slower pace in Michael Jackson's life as he waited for the arrival of his daughter, Paris. Away from the spotlight with no new music releases or concerts scheduled, Michael focused his attention onto large scale business ventures. Most notably his ambitions to develop a casino, theme park, hotel and multi retail and entertainment empire that would span the globe.

Actually only in 2001 he looked slightly different otherwise after that he still looked like the way he did during dangerous era.

1998 was an exciting summer here in Detroit! I was 16 & wasn't old enough to vote. I was so disappointed that city didn't vote on proposal A but got a chance to see MJ at Chene Park to speak in person about coming to the "D" as a business man & not as an entertainer. I took really good & close pictures of him. I'm glad I actually got a glimpse of him in person. 11 years before his untimely death.

Not much MJ stuff happened in 1998. But I noticed he dropped his “90s” look and started to look more like the Invincible era MJ by the end of this video.

This is the year I fell in love with Michael Jackson. I was 9 and we had just moved away from my hometown the year before and I remember seeing countdowns and video marathons on Michael Jackson music and stuff all over the music channels around his 40th birthday. I had heard of him and seen his videos before that and even back in 1993 when I first saw the "Rock With You" video or 1995 when my family watched the premiere of "You Are Not Alone", I wasn't fully aware or cognizant of who he was. 1998 changed that. I've been a fan ever since.

Post history era is interesting to me because you can see MJ starting to show some signs of aging before he did the facelift in 1999.
He already did a facelift somewhere in late spring '98. His smile isnt as bright

In 1999 he didn't do a facelift. In 2001 I don't think there was a lot of smiling
@@markus5944 he fucked up his upper lip due to facelift/botox near the end of 2000. when he smiled he hid his face in his hands. 2001 MSG shows he also hid his face in his hands because he didn't like how he looked. something went wrong with the surgery. it gradually became better though. he looked great in 2008
@@bartgielen119 Something was still wrong, particularly with his lips, when they filmed the You Rock My World video. Apparently a member of the crew made fun of Michael and he hid and broke down on set.
Still wonder what caused such a dramatic shift in terms of his facial features right after 1998-99. I assume maybe some more surgeries. But I think the biggest might have been after the crane accident that messed his back up pretty bad. I think that’s when the drug dependency came back hard. He just looked completely spaced out for the next few years and was putting on pounds, which could have impacted his face as well. Either way. This was such a sad era in my opinion. Because you didn’t see the bright soul in his eyes anymore. He seemed to just “exist” 😥
+Stro Productionz Yeah, just like with the Pepsi burn from 1984, we underestimated the pain Michael went through after such traumatic events. Mike walked his pain off so well he made us think he wasn't suffering.
That 50 feet fall in 1999 accelerated his need for painkillers because he did permanent damage to his skeletal structure when that staging declined so fast. Most people don't even know this incident happened to him.
I noticed in his 2001 concerts with his brothers that something was off about him.
He was taking stuff to get through the concerts. That's why his smile was not quite right.
He actually started looking better by 2004, 2005, & especially 2006.
But for awhile, he had to be taking stuff to dull the pain. Pain will make you do what you normally would not do.
Then you have mental strain of that witchhunt which probably damaged his ability to sleep normally.
Once he tried to comeback with This Is It, he added more pressure resulting in him dealing with hitman "doctor".
If only we could change a key event in this series of outcomes, he might still be with us on Earth in life.
It’s true what you say about his eyes. You can blatantly tell from photographs and footage when the drug dependency had a real hold on him. There were large periods of time around the early 2000s where his eyes have this droopy, half-shut appearance which was a telltale sign he was on something major, for example; the Madison Square Garden shows, his Invincible album signing and at his visit to the Houses of Parliament in London.
I have been wondering the exact same thing for years like what did he do ? In 1998 he looked good and than in 1999 al of a sudden his face changed completely and it went downhill after that when invisible came out he look bad and he looked way older than he was supposed to look . I think he had a facelift that didn’t go well

It was a character assassination for him for being unfaithful to Debbie. Although Michael had no relationship with Debbie and all children came by IVF, but that was not declared by Michael at that time clearly. Lisa was jealous. She couldn't accept that she was washed off from Michael's life so early. She came back to take a revenge on Michael, assassinate his Peter Pan image, prove him unloyal, make him away from many fans who thought Michael was of a very kidding nature, she did it and flew to Nicholas Cage.
