It’s pronounced “BUY-AZZ” not BAYZ. She, along with Dylan, were the (folk song) voices of the 60s. She’s long before my time but I respect all musical genres and learn the names of key individuals
I hate Madonna so I'm glad they snubbed her. Prince not attending was a bad look. That whole "holier than thou" attitude didn't serve him well, but at the same time he probably didn't like being around other celebrities and was probably an introvert so can't really blame him. At least he contributed something to the album. That showed it didn't have to do with the cause and more with being around other celebs.
In what world Prince was ‘rivaling’ Michael’s success at the time ? 😂 Thriller was certified 2x Diamond in less than 2 years after its release, sold close to 40 million copies worldwide by 1984. Purple Rain never went close to that at all. It sold approximately to what Off the Wall sold overall ! Y’all aren’t serious with this wanting so hard to put both on the same box. 💀
If you were there that era Prince surpassed Mike by far in popularity end of 84/beginning 85. Even Madonna then was ahead of Mike. I m rather a fan of Mike but one can be fair. The last huge think of Mike then was the video of Thriller more than 1 y before for promoting a tune made more than 2 years before.
I thought this was a great idea but to be honest I wasn't into most of these artists. I was far more into the British New Wave thing, and definitely preferred Do They Know It's Christmas by Band Aid because of this. Prince wasn't snubbed....Q, Lionel, & MJ wanted Prince on the song from the beginning as one of the featured artists & even crafted a portion of the song to showcase he & MJ, but Prince balked at singing & doubled down on only wanting to play guitar, so Q got pissed & gave his lines to Huey Lewis & then relegated Prince to the backup chorus. Prince sent Sheila E in his place, & he went out clubbing with his band & bodyguards, who ended up roughing up a group of paparrazzi
I can't believe they didn't have Dolly Parton.. I mean who better to have on a video for the world than the mother to the nation Dolly Parton or be itt the country nation..
Prince ALWAYS recorded his vocals ALONE... everybody knows that... not a surprise he couldn’t sing along with all this people in the room... they should have let him doing à guitar solo, that would have been great.... and very easily doable... Never understood why Q Jones refused....
I agree. Sheila E. didn't even want to be there, so why would she want a solo? Lionel Richie convinced her to come and I doubt she was used to get Prince to attend. It does sound made up.
I'm glad he(Prince) didn't do it. I now Know why Lionel Ritchie won all those American Music Awards over Prince. Because of his involvement with that song before the show and voting.

I know I'm going to have to read a few tantrums for writing this. "Biggest SELLING artist" doesn't mean "Biggest artist in the world". And two: MJ and Prince were rivals in our minds. Full stop. Prince said he never saw MJ as a rival. I can understand that if I think in a strictly musical way, because Prince was absolutely free and MJ only beat him in fame and money: he was a multi-instrumentalist, composer*, writer*, arranger, singer, dancer, actor, showman, workaholic, had an insane vocal range, wrote the music he liked (not what the charts dictated), had a knack for being several years ahead of the rest (in sounds, rhythms and recording techniques) and already owned at that time 2 Oscar awards. (*) it is probably more than 95% of his songs are signed by him alone as the solo author. PS: The narrator is quite malicious with the use of "prima donna", that term is feminine, it does not apply to men. Nor is diva, in any case it would be divo. Second PS: When Prince did charity work, donated money or volunteered to help, he NEVER needed anyone to take his picture. Hos we know that his donations were far more than numerous and there is talk of many millions of dollars. A small example: 25 million to install solar panels.
Sammy Hagar wanted to be invited. Instead, other Bay Area musicians sang. They were Sheila E, Lindsey Buckingham, The Pointer Sisters, Huey Lewis and the News. Dan Akroyd was the only Canadian 🇨🇦 there. David Foster wanted him, but Quincy Jones got him! L 🤣 L The other Canadians sang in Tears Are Not Enough.
I imagine this will only be of interest to a few people, but...if you go to this link you'll see at around 6:25 a video people arriving like Tina Turner, Bette Midler, Kenny Loggins, then there is a brief video of Lionel Richie with his wife at the time ... and then Lola Falana actually enters the picture and Lionel takes a picture with Lola Falana on one side and his wife on the other. Lola's star unfortunately was falling fast after around 1982, she was still around and played Vegas, but by the end of the 80s, she was a non-entity in the entertainment world. I feel for her. Sheila E. wanted a solo spot with that weak singing voice of hers??? I didn't even know Sheila E. was in the We Are The World song and video till a couple of years ago. So it like 30 odd some years for me to realize that she was apart of the song. Even though I have had seen the video hundreds of times.
But she's a bad ass on the drums. If she had a strong voice that would simplify be unfair
It’s pronounced “BUY-AZZ” not BAYZ. She, along with Dylan, were the (folk song) voices of the 60s. She’s long before my time but I respect all musical genres and learn the names of key individuals
I think they all got a letter to leave their "eagle" at the door. Prince and Madonna had no babysitter that night
I hate Madonna so I'm glad they snubbed her.
Prince not attending was a bad look. That whole "holier than thou"
attitude didn't serve him well, but at the same time he probably didn't
like being around other celebrities and was probably an introvert so
can't really blame him. At least he contributed something to the album.
That showed it didn't have to do with the cause and more with being
around other celebs.
Ego of Madonna and Prince was beyond all that drama instead of helping to Donate the sales! both was acting like a prima donna😂
She wasn't asked though.
Sad that Prince didn't participate in the We are the world song
Not sad to me.
In what world Prince was ‘rivaling’ Michael’s success at the time ? 😂
Thriller was certified 2x Diamond in less than 2 years after its release, sold close to 40 million copies worldwide by 1984.

However as a Gen Xer I knew of all of these acts and thought it was cool they all performed together to raise money.
I never noticed jackie wasn't in we are the world. So that's rebbie, jackie, jermaine & janet excluded.... damn🤦🏿♂️🧘🏾♂️
well janet became a bigger artist when control came out in 1986 so i’m not surprised she wasn’t involved. though her siblings arguably weren’t that big anymore either, they were all there except for jermaine so why she wasn’t able to make it is anyone’s guess. and well we know bout jermaine
Viva. Os. Grandes artistas
It's pronounced "Buy-ez", not "Baze"
How many times are you going to tell this story?
Madonna and Prince were the two biggest 80s icons after MJ, they should have been there.
lol mike was a megastar compared to those 2
@@travishylton6976 Madonna and Prince were huge in the 80s don't get it twisted.
No the hell they shouldn’t have. They were toxic asf and only cares about themselves. Michael is better and bigger than them
@@johnsonmark65 Yet the only one called as the biggest single artist since Elvis and biggest phenomenon since Beatles was Michael Jackson. Not both.
@@thrill82j I know that MJ was the biggest star of that era(Im a Gen Xer, duh) im just saying Prince and Madonna were just as decade defining for the 80s and had a huge impact and influence on the youth of the time.
So Madonna proved she didn't care about the dying starving children, but her own ego.
@@MrCyberamp lol the whole project was about virtue signaling 😅
Madonna e Prince não são puxa saco e tem personalidade, igual o Michael Jackson. Eles não precisam aparecer em um videoclipe pra mostrar que ajudam, igual o Michael Jackson.
So did Prince
@@MrCyberamp So did Prince
Wasn’t the live aid concert a fundraiser to save the starving children as well? If you wanna bash her for not going because of her ego then you can’t really bash her because they said LEAVE ALL EGOS AT THE FRONT DOOR meaning Madonna wouldn’t be able to do that knowing how confrontational she is. Also bash Prince if your gonna bash her
Ufff....so glad Price didn't show up!!!😂
I love Prince - but that man was so condescending!
O prince. Nao. Quiz. Participar. Nao. Fez. Falta. Neuma.
You brought your narrator back?
Donna Summer didn't make the cut?😏
That's what I said!
Donna Summer had a lot going on at home. Watched her documentary that woman was carrying a ridiculous amount of baggage.
Can you even believe it
Спасибо!
Prince was invited but couldn’t be bothered to show up
Lauper could sing, Madonna... not really.
If that had been the case, Bob Dylan would have had to be rejected too.
@@TheAmarok87 Nobody wants to watch Madonna grind on a microphone

Prince ALWAYS recorded his vocals ALONE... everybody knows that... not a surprise he couldn’t sing along with all this people in the room... they should have let him doing à guitar solo, that would have been great.... and very easily doable... Never understood why Q Jones refused....
❤❤❤❤❤❤
I would like to know why they couldn't get Ted Nugent.
Lionel states that he DID NOT ask Madonna to participate. Prince was asked but in fact turned it down.
Made up sh!t here
I agree. Sheila E. didn't even want to be there, so why would she want a solo? Lionel Richie convinced her to come and I doubt she was used to get Prince to attend. It does sound made up.
Someone gotta make an AI version with Prince and Madonna vocals added in.
Oh hell no
Fck NO!
and that guitar solo too… But where would Madonna even be and would you have to remove Huey Lewis’ vocals too since he took Prince’s solo?
I NEED to see that.
I'm glad he(Prince) didn't do it. I now Know why Lionel Ritchie won all those American Music Awards over Prince. Because of his involvement with that song before the show and voting.
Yeah, they really should have had "Baze."
My bigger question is, why is actor Dan Ackroyd singing on it?
I THINK MICHAEL ALTHOUGH HE WAS A VERY SHY PERSON HE HAD NO ISSUES WITH SINGING IN FRONT OF OTHER ARTISTS, PRINCE ON THE OTHER HAND WAS A VERY PRIVATE PERSON HE WAS USED TO RECORDING PRIVATELY IN HIS OWN STUDIO BACK THEN IN THE 80S HE WAS QUITE THE PREMADONNA THERE IS A VIDEO OUT THERE WHERE MICHAEL AND PRINCE PAY TRIBUTE TO JAMES BROWN AND MICHAEL UPSTAGES PRINCE PERFORMANCE WISE I DONT THINK PRICE EVER GOT OVER THAT, MAYBE HE DIDNT WANT A REPEAT OF THAT ROLLING STONES CONCERT WERE THAT CROWD DID NOT ACCEPT PRINCE AND THEY THREW FOOD AND BEER BOTTLES AT HIM AND HIS BAND BACK IN THE 70S
And the sad thing is after everything was done hardly any of the money got to the starving people
Michael is enough anyway . 😏
And they couldn't get Devo to sing some tracks? The Nerve!!!! lol
Just 2 prima Donna ego's isn't bad considering the amount of huge ego's in the recording session

8:36 I don't know if Prince said that himself, but for Wendy to say that in her book makes her such a petty prick
I wounder what they told her after she showed up.?

Prince a fait un don en 2011 après MJ bien après. Et n'a pas voulu we are the world car prince voulait absolument un solo guitare. I'm glad Madonna wasn't on the record. She would have ruined it.
Prince had a chip on his shoulder and missed out due to his ego.
Also glad that Barbra Streisand wasn't on it. She's overrated.
I don't like Cyndi but at least it wasn't Madonna.
I really wish MJ and Prince could have made a song together, it would have been legendary for the ages
Actually, Michael Jackson's "Bad" was supposed to be a duet with Prince, but Prince turned it down because he didn't want to sing the lyric 'your butt is mine'. In an interview he stated: "Who's going to sing that to who?' Because you sure aren't singing that to me, and I sure ain't singing it to you."
Madonna devia estar nessa gravação, qto ao Prince , tinha suas " manias" Cindy Loper eu amava, mas foi estupidez sua presença! Fiquei pasma com suas falas sobre essa gravação: ela foi mediocre!
I loved a recent history with Sheila E. saying Prince was invited and everyone waited, and he never showed up.. according to her, she was asked to sing, but she got tired waiting around to record, and walked out..so unlikely Sheila..😂… and I have to say, I agree it’s a terrible song..
