Considering the time, and chance to just generally ruin something internally, [lose a washer, cause an oil leak, get 'junk' into the crankcase] what are the advantages of actually removing the sensor rather than just unhooking it electronically from the outside? With the same thought in my, why go inside the engine to actually remove the governor internal when it can be bypassed externally? Looking forward to your reply.
Hey it’s a year late but oh well. If you just bypass the governor without removing the plastic gear internally, the gear has a good chance to let go of the metal weights and fling them where you don’t want them. No good.
why don't you jt bypass the wiring from the oil sensor ? It would be much cleaner and you could connect a light io it to tell you when there's a probleme with oil.
This is true... but anyone smart enough to know that there's harmful metal shavings in the engine, knows that you should probably remove them before you seal it up and run it...
when tapping them holes put a rag right under the hole your tapping out to catch all the shavings then run a nut in it then check the whole engine before closing it up.
Would it hurt to just use a hammer an tap that arm into the motor instead of cutting? I already done it an don't know much so hopefully it won't hurt anything
Just a quick addition you could carefully wiggle the governor arm off by the crank and cut off the elbow below the two crimped wings. Then reinstall just the straight shaft into the case to use the external governor arm for your throttle. By removing the elbow portion you wont have to worry about the arm contacting the crank shaft and its a lot easier than tapping the hole for a screw. I did also remove the plastic gear just for insurance also. Looked fragile since I was inside the case already.

Red Beard's Garage Thanks! everyone shows the governor delete, but no one explains why you need to remove it completely and not just bypass the linkage.

Red Beard's Garage also if you use a nail you can just tap the pin out and the governer gear and all comes right out then you can tap the pin back in. Super easy i just done it
If you remove the governer on the 212, what other mods do you need to have to support it? besides jets/exhaust/intake... should i do billet flywheel/rod and valve springs too?
I removed the governor but now it's hard to pull. It easily runs without the spark plug and I've tried swapping for a new cam to see if it was a compression release problem, and I've reset the valve lash. What's wrong?
Hey thanks for the reply. So is taking out the oil sensor necessary or can I leave it in. Also once the governor is out do I have to do a direct throttle mod like your one in your video.
Yeah you will have to do the throttle mod like i did. You don't have to remove the oil sensor but i recommend that you do because it will cause the engine to shut off if riding off road or taking curves hard.
I removed governor, had 18lb valve springs and go power sports stage 1 kit and my motor blew, literally next day after removing the governor, what did I do wrong?

I'm a little confused. RBG always has the motor off and seems really involved. I see other videos where they just put their minibike on the side and just pick the governor out with needlenose pliars.
Hi Red. I have a question for you. I don't understand where it is necessary to remove the governor "gear and lever". couldn't you just disengage the attachments to the carburetor instead? please let me know.
To plug the hole where the arm was for the governor I just found a bolt that I was able to start without tapping. Got it about half inch in and cut the head off with a dremel because it will never need to be removed.
if i take off/disable the govenor and put a jet .038 in stock carb with stage 3 exhuast pipe and upgrade air adapter will i need stonger springs then stock and rlv/billet flywheel?
The biggest have to have upgrades would be 18lb valve springs and if you are running a centrifugal clutch a billet flywheel. A billet rod would be smart when you can afford it.
And I have a 6.5 greyhound motor and it starts up with the choke on but when I take it off it dies I already clean the carburetor and gas tank and it still dies

+bobdude2360 I think it would be fine. If you just take a flat head screwdriver and get in-between the gap in the little clip and twist the screw driver it will come out pretty easy.
I have a predator 212 engine as a replacement engine for a stripped down Harley poketbike, and got that Mikuni carb kit off Ebay brand new for like $48.00 instead of like close to $100.00 the other gocart parts dealers charge, my question is this, there is 3 ports on that Mikuni carb and the one port closest to the air breather is the gas feed line, but where does the port directly by the choke lever go to ? and where does the third port on the very bottom of that Mikuni carb go to? does those 2 ports have to be hooked up or can those ports be blocked like on the older cars having the factory emissions crap bypassed?
vent and overflow hoses. don't block, but tie them downward. the overflow will tell you if your float is stuck open, and the vent will prevent vapors from building pressure within the whole system when it's not running. you need them
I removed the governor, the oil sensor with the yellow wire and the box were the yellow wire goes to. I have no spark now. Any idea? It's a good brand new predator 212. I did everything the video said.

So my question is if i was to remove just the spring and the tension bar on top of the engine would it mess up or still activate the govner
Did you just cut the wire in front of the box or how did you do that on the oil sensor disconnecting it just bought a himi 212 glad it was a himi
+Kylee Bates you can just unplug the oil sensor if you like.
if I unplug it from it it will still run. Also i just ordered a exhaust and I don't wanna spend the money on a mikuni and I also don't wanna spend 45 bucks for the adapter plate and Air filter and main jet was wondering a cheaper carb to bolt up and will run good with Lil tuning...
+Kylee Bates well if you take the lid off your air box it's basically like you are running the air filter kit. Just buy the keys from go power sports for less than 10 and you'll be good to go
Send me a link please if you don't mind buddy and thank you for the info everything else I be gotten figured out lol
Glad I watched until the end because I was going to just bolt the oil sensor hole like you did but tapping it would be better. Thanks for the guide!
If I just put a spring that holds the arm back, does it keep the governor from kicking in?
So I have 2 212s hemis and 2 301cc my question is performance wise just adding the exhaust air cleaner kit on 301cc vs adding that to the 212cc.. whats the hp of both and is the 301cc worth the extra $120
Will some jb weld do fine if I use it to plug the wholes ?
The top one maybe but the lower on no
What if i just disconnect everything from the governor arm and leave the arm there with nothing on it and governor still inside my motor
It can swing around and hit the crank. This actually happen to a subscriber of mine and it broke his piston rod.
Red Beard's Garage Thanks! everyone shows the governor delete, but no one explains why you need to remove it completely and not just bypass the linkage.
What if you just removed the arm and not the gear?
@@effyoo6081, I think the problem is that the gear is fragile plastic and has the potential to spin itself into pieces.
@@rodneyws1977 I did mine correctly and took it all out. Exactly what I thought. The plastic can shatter at high rpm.
Hey I was wondering I just purchased a makuni carb do I have to remove the gonernor for it to work properly I also just added a torque converter
No it will make more power at the governed limit but is much better with the governor out
Will the Mikuni carb replacement kit make much of a difference from the stock carb ?
Yes it is a huge difference. Power and a way better throttle response.
Red Beard's Garage Okay thanks.
what is the difference, taking out the governor gear or just use a zip tye on the spring ?
Taking out the governor deletes the rpm limit, putting a zip tie on the spring just reduces the limit. i believe putting on a zip tie allows for 500 more rpm from what i've heard
Wouldn't it be okay to leave them sealed as they are and just cut along the sides ?
That way you wouldn't have to seal anything.
Iv got an old school mini baja that im completly redoing. However at the moment i cant afford any motor upgrades so my question is if i remove the governer how long could i ride non stop safely without blowing the motor before i get the funds to completly build the motor?
+Extreme Tint & Decals you can ride it for a long time. Just don't hold it wide open for a long time
Red Beard's Garage awesome. I wanna build this engine to go as fast as it possibly can. Piston rod crank cam valves & springs port & polish head carb intake mani custom header and so on. I know where and how to purchase everything however im not sure what exactly to buy since this is my first build and i dont wanna buy the wrong parts and blow it up lol. So any help would be awesome
Red Beard's Garage also if you use a nail you can just tap the pin out and the governer gear and all comes right out then you can tap the pin back in. Super easy i just done it
Why do you not tap the low oil sensor like you do the governor arm hole?
If you remove the governer on the 212, what other mods do you need to have to support it? besides jets/exhaust/intake... should i do billet flywheel/rod and valve springs too?
Its good to bullet proof it with the billet parts but a must have is 18lb valve springs
If you take the oil sensor out make sure to add a little more oil, to make up for the space!!!
I usually just fill mine to the level on the stick.
Can I just unplug the sensor?
@@portercole2798 may as well leave it alone if you aren't taking it out
@@fantro1064 what is the purpose of removing it?
@@portercole2798 one less thing that could break and destroy the engine, and it makes room for more oil
You don't have to remove the oil sensor but i recommend that you do because it will cause the engine to shut off if riding off road or taking curves hard.
red beard s garage what is the difference in eliminating the governor
Lets the engine rev past its governed 3600 rpms
So you just run a bolt through the throttle arm?
What would be the effect or change of removing the flywheel?
I removed governor, had 18lb valve springs and go power sports stage 1 kit and my motor blew, literally next day after removing the governor, what did I do wrong?
I'd say you over revved the motor. How big are your tires and how many teeth are on your sprocket?
@@JakeSeiner 60 tooth and 145/70-6
@@JakeSeiner fuck it I had a whole day with it the first day I took it out and I was going 40+ Fosho!!! 2nd day it blew but they are cheap ass engines anyways, I had to send that shit! I had the 60 tooth sprocket, 18lb valve springs and I had my carb jetted (main jet and E-tube) and I had the go power sports stage 1 kit
And max torque clutch
On a Baja doodle bug mini bike
What will be better if i buy the stage one modification kit or do this
I'm a little confused. RBG always has the motor off and seems really involved. I see other videos where they just put their minibike on the side and just pick the governor out with needlenose pliars.
What should I purchase after doing this to prevent a hole in the engine
I have the predator 301, just removed the governor, do I need a upgraded flywheel and/or 50lbs springs?
What type of oil should I run in mine after doing a governor removal
Just standard 10w-30 is fine. I use synthetic just for its cleansing property's
Hi Red. I have a question for you. I don't understand where it is necessary to remove the governor "gear and lever". couldn't you just disengage the attachments to the carburetor instead? please let me know.
You can but you risk the arm inside the block moving and hitting the crank. Its not worth the risk in my opinion.
thank you so much!!
How do you keep the throttle linkage after removing it
I will make a video soon about this
@Red Beards Garage, will disconnecting the wire to the oil sensor do the same thing?
Yes, that's what I did and it saved me from having to fill in the hole
To plug the hole where the arm was for the governor I just found a bolt that I was able to start without tapping. Got it about half inch in and cut the head off with a dremel because it will never need to be removed.
if i take off/disable the govenor and put a jet .038 in stock carb with stage 3 exhuast pipe and upgrade air adapter will i need stonger springs then stock and rlv/billet flywheel?
ps. its a non hemi 212 predator with a torque converter
What would happen if you just disconnected and removed the govenor arm and left the internals in place? Would that work?
So what are the upgrades you need after you take the governor out
The biggest have to have upgrades would be 18lb valve springs and if you are running a centrifugal clutch a billet flywheel. A billet rod would be smart when you can afford it.
And I have a 6.5 greyhound motor and it starts up with the choke on but when I take it off it dies I already clean the carburetor and gas tank and it still dies
And I have a 6.5 greyhound motor and it starts up with the choke on but when I take it off it dies I already clean the carburetor and gas tank and it still dies
K thank you for the info
Red Beard's Garage do you have the governor removed on little red
Will there be any cons taking the governor off?
I removed the governor and oil sensor on a brand new predator 6.5 predator engine that has never been started before and it won't start. I have the switch turned on the run position I have the gas turned on and the Choke on the start position fresh gas and oil is filled. The only thing I can think of is when I was removing the governor the cam shaft fell out I matched up the two small dots I didn't know if it couldve thrown off my values. Any suggestions thanks I don't have it hooked up to a kill switch yet also and oil sensor is removed
hey bud why can't I just leave the gear inside and just remove the linkage that goes to the throttle. will that work?
You need to remove the lever that goes though the block because it can hit the crank and cause problems.
Is it mandatory to remove the little gold box?
no not necessarily. but it makes the engine look better. if you remove oil sensor it is useless
+Red Beards Garage because I am having trouble when I get it to run I have to hold the throttle wide open and if I let off the engine will not out and I wasn't sure if it would make a difference
+Brandan Marhefka well air fuel mixture is super finicky on these engines. have you messed with the air box or exhaust?
+Red Beards Garage no everything is stock only removed the Govenor and oil sensor
+Brandan Marhefka when you had the side cover off did you make sure you didn't move the cam out of time?
Lol don't forget to plug that governor ARM hole. So you don't spit oil everywhere all around town like I have for the past month lol. Had to rewatch to figure out what I missed.
how do i take the governer arm out if I don't have anything to cut it at the top
Not sure I have always had to cut the top part off
Justin Wallen buy something to cut it.
can i just cut the oil sensor wire so i don’t have to put a new bolt in?
Well if governor remove should I put a new connecting rod and new valve spring or can I still use the stock one and will these affect anything or will it break
Question! Will piston rings from a Honda gx 200 fit on a predator 212cc? Thanks!
I didn't notice if you had to line up the timing marks.. or do you not have to?
Clayton Suarez you don't have to unless your remove the cam.
Can a governor that is just disconnected at the top cause an engine to run wide open?
i did this now i have no compression and it wont start i think it has to do with the 2 round valve things that go up and down do they have to b in a certain position and i lined the dot up with the other dot
Do you have a video that shows how to hook up the throttle after you remove the governor?
+Michael Billingsley no but I will post one soon
Hey red Beard I have quick question if I remove the governer rod the black rod and plug the hole but leave the gear on cuz it seems like the clip is a bitch to remove. Will my engine be ok
+bobdude2360 I think it would be fine. If you just take a flat head screwdriver and get in-between the gap in the little clip and twist the screw driver it will come out pretty easy.
Did you end up doing it this way?
can the governor gear shaft fall off into the motor?
I was tapping the top where the gov hole goes and it cracked the top of the hole. What do I do? Is it done? Can it be fixed?
how much power will you gain when taking out the governor
I think its around 3hp just because a normal engines hp is at the top of the rpm range
I did everything the video said.
can you send a link to the bolt and nut please
Would you be able to answer this for me red beard. I have a robin EX13 4.5hp I was wondering if they are possibly the same as the predator 212. I’d like to see if I could just up my robin.
is this the same on the GX270 honda engine?
