- When you’re talking updates to Heavy Duty pickups, you’re usually boasting about bigger power and higher tow ratings; but the truth is, all those numbers have gotten out of control lately, and not too many people actually come close to maximizing their truck’s towing or hauling abilities.
So, rather than simply focusing on bigger numbers, the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado HD lineup showcases improvements that will make your workday easier and your days off more enjoyable.

Hearing John Davis’ voice is like ASMR for me! Love these videos!!!
That 6.6L gas engine is no joke I have it in my express 2500 work van it’s unbelievable.
Oooh believe it if its in your van 😅 jeeeezus
Chevy Silverado is best trucks of everytimes
Yes I'd love a $1200 monthly truck payment 😂
That's my mortgage!
Just pay cash
I've said this on other sites and might as well on this one too. I have a 22 2500 Custom model gasser that we bought to tow our camper, of which it does with ease. And I daily drive it back and forth to work empty. If someday we give up the whole camping life thing, we are keeping that truck. I could care less if I ever tow anything with it again. It's the best vehicle I've ever owned in my 42 years of driving and I've owned a ton of vehicles over the years. Hands down bar none! I have the 6 speed in mine and I get a solid 14 going back and forth to work empty (11 miles each way mostly city) 18 to 20 if I keep it at 70 or under on the highway and 8 to 10 towing our 8k lb camper. It's absolutely amazing!
If you're looking to hire a dire hard Motor Week guy at 57 years old, let me know...lol... No worries, I already know the answer to that.
Love when the legend John Davis presents ❤
A question for GM: does the front edge of the hood really have to be that high? Since I’m a car runner at a Chevrolet dealership I get to drive these and just about everything else you see on the road. If a VW Beetle was 6” in front of a 3500 4wd I’m not sure that a 6’ tall driver could see it.
From the driving position it isn't terrible, however I did option the 360 camera so whenever I am in a parking lot I turn on the front camera. If I didn't have it then yes basically any car is invisible.
Current semi driver. If you get close enough to my bumper, then it might bump you. 😂
Capable and powerful. Nice rims, power dome hood, and the improved interior. Otherwise, I prefer the GMC front end.
They also left out only the LTs and above get the electronic assisted steering and automatic disabled lane departure when you hook up a trailer among other features you won’t get on WT trim
How drunk were the engineers when the designed the front end of this thing? Man, is that ugly.
They were watching "Vacation" on loop in the breakroom.
Way more refined and looks than a ford.
All 3 look like drunken sailors designed the front end. The last great looking front end was the 03-05 cat eye.
@@Vickvineager I loved my 02 2500 HD. That was a good looking truck.
When you add wheels and a lift it looks much more aggressive than the new LTZ/High Country front ends.
I've had my 2024 LT 3500 with the 6.6 gas engine since September. I custom ordered it and waited 3 months for it. I added basically every option and I am very happy with it. I tow my toy hauler 5-6 times a year and other than that its my daily driver.
It’s a shame one has go in the 2500+ class to get an engine w/o cylinder deactivation.
@502Chevy is now on a ram you can tap upshift when you start the truck and it turns it off
Awesome trucks.
Motorweek, I LOVE you but you need to include performance testing in your context like from old, it is a staple and one that I expect.
Please make it happen.
We just bought a new Camry. Finance guy who worked for Chevy recently said he'd see people walk out of the dealership with a $2,500/month payment on loaded and aftermarket optioned trucks.
Those are the ones that cry about inflation and gas prices all the time. They expect the world to change for their poor decisions.
BS. 2500/month is a 125k-150k vehicle with no cash down. So…..yeah
@@pistolpete5325 do the math on a loaded 1 ton diesel with dealer installed lift kit and wheels and tires, and whatever extended warrantees or service packages they buy, plus tax tag and title.
Not too sure about that... I have a LT 4×4 with few upgrades, put $7,500 down $943 monthly payment.
What are they paying in APR, 28%? Wow, that's nuts. I just basically bought the truck in this video (@ $64k) and put down $20k. After taxes and an extended warranty, and with 5.29% financing for 72 months, I'm a little over $800/ mo. That said, trucks can easily go over $100k, but you would have to get raped on interest and/or do a very short-term loan to get to $2,500. I think there may have been a little exaggeration going on there.
Before I got my new 2019 Colorado 4x4 over a year ago, I was focused on Ford trucks (mainly F-150s) which are considered full size pickups. Now with my Colorado being classified as a midsize pickup, I can comment from my point of view experience whenever I'm spending the days & times with it on the road...It can be at least sort of a challenge. For example, over a month ago I was leaving a barbershop with my grandpa after my mom requested me to take him for a haircut & trim prior to his birthday celebration, what happened was that while driving in a residential neighborhood behind the shop one of the streets had a line of parked vehicles on both sides. During that moment, a vehicle approached from the opposite direction & in response I was able to bring my truck to the side so that driver could pass. It's occasions like that, which would have me think it's one thing I was looking to get full size trucks like a F-150 but a small portion of that interest included the prospect getting a dual wheel pickup. If I did obtain a dual wheel pickup truck it would be next to a mission impossible driving around the local area. Especially since over the last few years or so, new apartment & condo buildings that are several floors/stories tall have been getting established. Including the smaller borough towns. Just having a midsized pickup such as my Colorado 4x4 on the local streets can be sort of a tight fit. Unfortunately, that will occasionally include driving on at least part of the center line with some streets just to avoid contact with parked vehicles. Not to mention the time of the day & night with high peaks of rush hour traffic, road construction, etc. If you even had a single wheel full size large truck like the Ford Super Duty, Chevy 2500 or 3500 Silverado, etc. The case scenario could be similar.
Looks so retro nice
Love mine, best I ever had.
I have the 2024 LTZ MIDNIGHT EDITION. love the truck. If you can’t afford it,then just don’t buy it. I got it as a business write off. 😎
Need on in LT crew cab 🖤🖤💯💯
As an alternative truck from Ram or Ford, I’ll take a Silverado HD Custom gasser. Only thing I wish is it having fog lights vs just having head lights, overall I think this refresh toned down the otherwise polarizing looks of the 2020-22 trucks and the Allison branded 10-speed I bet is a welcome to the gas model.
Has motorweek ever given a bad review on any vehicle
I hear you! When I was growing up they used to do “PROS & CONS”. They also did 0-60 and handling(slalom) tests too. They lost it!
Yea
While the price seems insane, 2500 gms are about the same or even less than an equally equipped 1500. And the 2500 has no silly displacement on demand, way more capabilities and only gets 1-3 mpg less. Plus resale value is always higher! I think the 2500 GM trucks are the best value right now, relatively speaking of course. Eveything is priced insanely
No true...the Ram 6.4 has MDS. Wish it didn't but it does.
@@M_dot202 I was talking about GM 2500s, if the 6.4 didn't have MDS it would be fantastic. It's already a solid performer plus it has a SFA!
I love it
Bought my truck last year and no complaints at all , MPG on the city is around 11-13 and in the highway going 75 i can get 22 mpg with no problem. True that the price is very high but honestly every time I hear the diesel engine makes me smile. If you can’t afford it, then don’t complain is the sad truth.🤷🏽♂️
They really need to get rid of the badging on the side of the hood unless it's the engine size.
Didn't the '24 models have an updated front end? I don't see it here.
The LT is slightly different than the 23 front ends but still looks close. The LTZ and High Country have the complete redesigned front ends with LEDs.
@@jayb7675 interesting. I just picked up a '24 LTZ Duramax. Awesome truck.
65k really isn’t that bad with the diesel for an XL 4x4 with the Z71
That was for the gasser
13 mpg for a heavy duty V8 gasser is actually not bad. Most cases, you're lucky if you average 10.
Remember, a vehicle like this is not for everyone.
Still pretty tough, my duramx returned 23 mpg commuting 70 miles to my office mainly highway. But on weekends, impressive 13 .... my Camry was the better run around town choice.
In nicer weather you can hit 17-18mpg with a decent highway drive. I was averaging over 14 combined (a lot of city driving) before the weather hit.
@Tool0GT92 I used to average 16 with my 93 GMC 1/2-ton extended cab. (Tried and true 350/460LE w/3.42:1) Best I ever got was 22 mpg.....It can be done if you have the right setup and don't drive it like a maniac.
Oh and back in the days when I actually had a use for a four wheel drive pickup truck.
@@effend446 my last truck was a 2014 Ram 1500 hemi it could almost crack 20mpg overall
Honestly the front fascia looks like a combination of the Third Generation, and the current (Fourth) Generation. To me that is.
My only complaint with my 2024 LTZ is the headlight halo issues they have had and still using cheap garbage for shocks …Ranchos
So what's it run 1/4?
Gas truck isn't too bad, not as peppy as my Hemi Ram 1500 but it gets the job done.
5:15 Guy just triggered half the buyers market.
Theyre starting to make these better looking the interior is great.
65k for this is officially insane
Yeah I wonder if anyone actually makes their money back on these trucks before the warranty expires.
It comes with a shotgun rack and banjo, so worth it...
Was expecting for it to be more, myself. Still too much either way
That's actually not a bad price. The interiors are a let down no matter how nice the upper trim level. Lots of cheap plastics and leather seats broke down faster then they should. At 36k, you could see it really getting worn on the leather by the door side , vs my lexus rx 350, which looked brand new at the same mileage.
$65k is ridiculous for a body on frame vehicle. In 1992, my mom bought an Audi 100CS (not Quattro) for $36k. Nowadays an Audi A4 is the same size, has Quattro mostly as standard and has way more features and costs about $42-43k. A fully loaded HD truck back then was about $20k, now it’s almost $70k.
Prices of all new trucks are high from every manufacturer. This is why I still have my 05 Ram 2500 4-door 4x4.
There will be a Chevy when you need a tow.
@@melrose9252Chevy is junk these days bud 😂
Tick tock. Buy now or it’s just gonna keep going up
I would have no problem daily driving it.
What is this State of US?
Wow.
Wow what?
A little bigger and you could live in it 🤣
Bow Tie Big Rig
65k truck and still has halogen DLRs
Halogen DRLs in 2024....smh
What's really annoying is as you option an LT you can get the sport and midnight packages with full LEDs for a very reasonable price it just wasn't available when I ordered it because of constraints. I'm running Sealight LED bulbs they were $70 and work fine.
Chevrolet focus on stuff more important than numbers...Ford have the numbers baby. Biggest and best numbers.
'MURICA!
Good luck finding any 3/4 ton truck for 65.000 more like 85.000 plus
= 💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯
$65k pocket change, give me a couple of them.
No track performance results? Come on Motor Week. Do better.
🇹🇳
The same truck from 2012 but ever more ugly and unreliable
Better duramax choice , 😂 but much worse seats!! Never liked new GM seats after my 2012 silverado .
@@davidlusk4350 my darn 2006 Silverado is already rusting away
That's not accurate at all.
@@Uknown76already? lol!
@@pistolpete5325 yup quarter panels are almost fully gone now
10 speed transmissions are annoying, feeling the transmission shift 20 times between lights is noticeable. Going down hill the transmission downshifts and causes violent engine braking which can only be averted by preemptively shifting into neutral. The long term durability of such mechanical terrors are bleak.
Don’t worry, you will never be able to afford with your fast food job.
Making fun of the poor is cool now?@@melrose9252
Get yours checked then, I notice the 1-2 shift after that its seamless.
@@Tool0GT92Gm has a lawsuit with the 8l80e about this same problem because they haven’t been able to solve the issue. They just reprogram it and charge you for nothing.
I don't like these or any other modern trucks. The front end is too big. The headlights are too high. You can't see anything around you(cameras don't count). And I can't stand the giant screens in the dash. Give me some analog gauges, and some knobs, switches and dials to control things. I like to reach over and adjust the heater or radio without looking
The drivetrain is okay. Although I can do without all the unnecessary technology. I would rather have an inline 6 truck from the 80's than any of the moster V8 trucks made in the last few decades.
I wish i could just get a work truck not a truck marketed to yuppies.
Lmao they do make the WT trim reg cab all ya need to get the job done. But they make most cash on higher priced margin trucks.
I am tired of the excessive yuppies behind the wheel of these, even as one myself.
I just don't like annoying cliches.
👉 Overpriced, & Over engineered !!!
WHAT A COINCIDENCE YOU SHOWED THIS JUST AS THE 2025 TRAIL BOSS DEBUTED!!😂😂
😂
Still pretty terrible looking and other issues as well. Maybe the next re-redesign will be better.
👍🏽 first! (For some reason I’ve always wanted to do that)😅
Whi cares anymore. Proces goes up. Reliability has gone down. Theyver dine nothing nrwtto these trucks but add more screens.
Huh?
I dunt no whit yo ari tryeng to say.
@@windwalker121😅 I see a google translate for your reply, but not to the original poster! Even funnier the translate makes more sense than your post, which is purposely misspelled! 😅
Over priced junk! good example of all the stupid people in our society that keep it in business.
If you want an HD truck it’s the only option. That’s why people pay it. Ram just came out with a $100k 1500 half ton.
Its a truck...dump the stupid screen, useless luxury and just make it basic and affordable.
Think they are realizing this. Finally getting some good or better rebates. Problem is they jacked up the price msrp so much in past few years so rebates only go to a price that they should of started at. Need better financing terms and much more incentives from dealer
You mean like the WT and Custom trim levels?
@@silvergeoff568Unfortunately it just seems that pickup trucks attract the dumbest people to the comment section and at least some of the commenters are intelligent & successful individuals.
They had the tiny screen originally on the old model and got too many complaints that they enlarged it mid-cycle. Tesla started the screen size war, blame them
What a stupid looking truck. Seriously
Another overpriced box with the appeal of the front of a window air conditioner.
Chevy is making garbage.
Don’t mock what you can’t afford.
Just because someone mocks something doesn’t mean they can’t afford it 🤣
Be a man...BUY RAM
