Chevrolet Silverado 2024 review: 2500 HD | New supersized V8 dual-cab pick-up targets Ram 2500 ute

- The facelifted 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD is here to prove that biggest is always best. Case in point: it takes the already extra-large 1500 model and supersizes it, putting the American dual-cab pick-up firmly in the firing line of the Ram 2500, another contender that's looking to rewrite the ute rulebook.
So, what separates the updated Silverado 2500 HD from its 'smaller' sibling? Well, the big news is under the bonnet, where an upgraded 6.6-litre turbo-diesel V8 engine resides, with it now producing 350kW of power and a mammoth 1322Nm of torque to enable even easier towing.
Of course, there's more to it than that, but in this expert review, CarsGuide Contributing Journalist David Morley puts the new Silverado 2500 HD through its paces at its Australian media launch to find out if it's worth the extra spend over its 'little brother', which received similar exterior and interior changes last year.

Please note the Silverado 2500 HD isn't available with an optional T-bar shifter in Australia. It's just the standard column shifter, as seen in this video.
GM hasn't had a solid front axle in decades fyi
What about a towing licence as some other influences want to push upon people like the characters from D unknown. At least you know how to report on something unbiased, well done and nice truck by the way.
Honest review Mr Morley, the beard is getting epic too!
Very nice review from CarGuide!
How natural and friendly your presenter was!
It’s frikkin awesome
My ultimate vehicle. Near on 3 times the torque of my current Ute. A want, but not a need.
Suddenly, every one needs to tow 4 tonnes.
Not really. Just more people wish to do it legally and in comfort and with some serious torque. Previously they illegally overloaded Landcruisers and the like. Far safer doing it this way
@@tonyn1991 We have managed to safely tow caravans of all sizes somehow since cars were a thing in Australia. This is nothing if not American consumerism seeping into Australia
@@tonyn1991 You can park a Landcruiser pretty easily though
@@intrusivethoughtand mostly illegally at that. The stats don’t lie. A recent blitz in Queensland revealed that 87% of tow vehicles were overloaded and a large percentage of them were very overloaded.
@@intrusivethought if you are towing overloaded you are not towing safely. Landcruisers and Patrols etc don’t have engine brakes either. They have short wheelbases and their axles, hubs, suspension and brakes just aren’t designed to tow 4.5 tonnes.
Exact same truck, color, engine…except my steering wheel is on the left side 😂
Wonder how many will buy these as a touring vehicle. At this price we are looking at similar figures to what I can only assume it costs to chop the end off a Land Cruiser and spec it, if not miles cheaper. I know it doesn’t have the backed reliability and serviceability of Toyotas but to be as capable as this and with this power out of the box it would need to be one to consider.
Was it a white truck or grey truck?
At $163k you might want to buy in America and have it shipped lol
Need right hand drive
We looked into it before ordering our current 2500 and by the time you get it here and converted to right hand drive it’s not worth the hassle and total lack of warranty.
@@shanenorwell8580 not only do you folks have the most dangerous animals but the expense of living there yikes. Thank you for the video.
It is built for a purpose, and that is to tow and tow well while being legal.
To the princess's having a sook about the size, would you rather look at one of these that affects you in no way shape or form or would you rather continue to have people driving around in overloaded vehicles operating outside of their design parameters.
Grow a set, ya bloody sooks.
The replies are funny, dont know whether its jealousy or if Greta has gotten to them.
Its the pulled to BITs I have an issue with
australia should be importing these by the millions, but adblue is a deal breaker--- ill buy the petrol
Great truck and a mate has one and swears by it on highway , towing and off road BUT we are perplexed why the factory does not manufacture in RHD and export directly…. What a bloody rigmarole to re manufacture and toss so much out to recycle. Make zero sense!
Because right hand drive market is super small. No point in creating a separate manufacturing line for such a small population.
Another parking space disaster. Yes, it can tow stuff but geez, take up two parking spaces.
Hey please give us the average litres per 100
it's a ute mate, we're not yanks.
Tradies tow all brands of skid steer loaders, not just the Bobcat brand. Lol
It's a truck not a car.
It’s $80,000 not $160,000
@sdzachar, yes in USA, did you miss the part that this is in Australia?? Like that it had RHD?!?!🤦♂️
Too expensive with Australian three car taxes applied to push price to 180k and beyond if you want the bigger one . Circa 90K grand in USA easy .
LCT not applicable on these.
A new LC 300 with mods and GVM / GCM upgrade etc, makes this Chev a very sensible proposition.
The price in USA is not very relevant.
This is Australia, not USA
Aussie $$$ is currently low v USD
Plus, Shipping costs to Australia, then very thorough
Re-manufacture to RHD by Walkinshaw.
Factory backed product, sold by GMSV
Not converted and sold by an aftermarket company, who does not have OEM / GM support etc
Annual sales of this in Australia will be about
500 vehicles.
GM probably sell
100,000 of these per year in USA, hence the price difference.
This is what Holden turned into, sad really.
Mate all Holden 'utes' were all imported from Chevy Thailand.
All that money and tech and still no satnav. Yank truck still in the dark ages.
Has satnav in the states. Must be network access issues down there
You'd be surprised how much tech these pickup trucks come with in the States. Many of those features are not programed to work in Australia/New Zealand though.
just way way too big
Same ugly grille
