Really makes you wonder what the hell he’s doing setting up a main base in a country where the people almost exclusively speak MSA(modern standard Arabic) and/or some localized dialect of it. I mean, yeah, Cairo itself is probably pretty used to tourists, but it still seems like a dubious choice, given that only vendors in the main area used to tourists, or the guides for archeological excavations and studies MIGHT speak and understand more than a few phrases. How the hell did he even manage to find a builder for that big arse mansion who could understand what he wanted done??

I feel the need to point out that there's every possibility that Dio learned Chinese from Wang Chun, albeit it would be 19th century Chinese. He could also conceivably have learned Japanese from Giorno's mother. There's precedent for Pillar Men being able to learn languages near-instantly so while it's not explicit that vampires can do the same it's at least possible.
Or maybe since the stone mask unlocked his brain’s hidden potential, it could have enhanced his language capabilities so that he could probably speak almost any if not all languages.
dio is basically pillar man level intelligence wise so I have no doubt he could learn languages very fast.

@@shawermus There is a section in the human brain specifically built for and dedicated to languages and communication. So actually yes, language capabilities are a thing and it is entirely possible that the mask increased them. Pretty sure birds have it too, it's just a little different for them.

It's canon that Jotaro is fluent in English. I mean, his daughter and his wife are Americans who live in Florida. And Jotaro didn't seem like he had trouble communicating with the Part 6 characters.

This video actually does raise an interesting thought experiment: What would happen if one recreated the entirety of Jojo, but characters couldn’t speak each other’s primary language?
With added linguistic realism, the whole story overall would pivot really quickly at around part 2 due to the German characters being unable to effectively communicate with their American and Italian counterparts. The pillarmen would also be impossible for anyone to communicate with due to them most likely communicating in a language that’s been dead for hundreds of years at that point.
Through that alone, the rest of Jojo might not have even taken place. And, as a result, the Jotaro VS Dio fight might not have even happened.
I don't think pillarmen is that big of an issue, didn't Santana just put his hand into someone and learnt the entire human language? or something like that
I think some of the Germans would know English, and the pillar men are quick learners so it wouldn’t be too hard for them to communicate with Joseph. It would be interesting if someone redid jojos but altered the language so the spoke the correct language at the right times (like jotaro switching to English for his grandfathers sake but speaking Japanese with kakyoin)
I think that becomes easy from part 4 onwards but I'd love to see international SC

@@computermariobross they would speak english, since joseph is obvious, avdol was a friend of his and smart so he probably knows, polnareff travels across the world so it would make sense for him to learn a few languages, and english is taught in school so jotaro and kakyoin should know it.

This reminds me of a creative writing project I was working on. My main character wants to create her own gang, so she travels to different countries to recruit and whatever. She speaks English, Lingala and some French, but she mainly uses a translator and makes an effort to learn a few things so that she can communicate. So yeah, there's a lot of language barriers.
Even though it's set in some kind of alternate universe that's Hunter x Hunter inspired, every country has their own language. Its set in around 2020 though, so there is the use of modern technology that everyone can use.

• Kakyoin can only understand Jotaro (Too depressed to pay attention and learn english)
• Abdol can only talk to Jotaro & Joseph
• Polnareff probably can speak english but isn’t that good, he totally isn’t the type to pay attention to english clash

I always figured they were mainly speaking English:
1. Joesph is obvious.
2. Avdol was hired by him, so it would make sense that he’d speak the same language. Also according to rest of this comment section, English is frequently taught as a second language in Egypt, and as a fortune teller it would make sense for him to speak the language of tourists.
3. Jotaro is half-American and could have learned English from hearing his mom speak it at home.
4. Kakyoin is like really smart.
5. Polnareff is hunting a killer across the globe, and it would again make sense for him to familiarize himself with a language that’s spoken somewhat in most major cities.

I just realised JoJo’s actually reading the subtitles like he said.
Part 1, 2, and 6 are definitely English. Part 3 would probably switch to English as soon as they leave Japan. Part 4 is Japanese. Part 5 is Italian.

@@omdano6432 For the most part, they only talk with business people, who tend to learn English for their business. But I have trouble believing that Kakyoin and Jotaro would learn Arabic in Japan. Joseph and Polnareff maybe learned it, Polnareff is a stretch, though. But I firmly believe that the Crusaders spoke in English to each other. As well as to Dio.

DIO studied philosophy and the Quran. He is quite educated but not THAT educated. He doesn't know everything
I think that the crusaders spoke English all the way to Egypt (because Polnareff and Avdol probably don't speak Japanese). The crusaders also spoke English against their enemies (Hol Horse, the Darby brothers,...), which explains how they could exchange during their fight. So we can deduce that Jotaro probably spoke English to Dio during his fight.
