Same as the sweep Machida used. Common in Karate.

    • @cameronbaker-kf3uk
      @cameronbaker-kf3uk 9 місяців тому

tbh i think the sweep could easily be counted for example with the fist kick he showed its used when they coming at you so if you can see them coming then ya while watching there were multiple openings where a kick or even punch would land

@@cameronbaker-kf3ukevery move you use haves their counters like the jab or the cross, there are numerous of ways to counter them but that doesn't mean they are useless, the same goes for the sweep, if you know when to use it without telegraphing its okay

  • @Priapos93

For the hard sparring guy, you throw a lot of gentle finishing moves. I just watched guys charging through your head kicks not realizing they have you to thank for still having their heads attached.
I will do my best to acknowledge that when it happens.

    Incredible video, as usual.
    Thanks Jeff.
    Showerthought wall of text incoming:
your channel is both THE greatest testimony to how efficient constant sparring is at creating superb fighters but ALSO full HD proof of how it can delude good fighters into thinking they're great instead of being humbled and schooled.
So many examples of eating counter hooks and flush kicks to the chin yet going through with their combos and even ramping up the pressure is... I mean dude what?
Don't they get that if you didn't pull back they'd be on the floor (or on a stretcher)?
And of what value is continuing the exchange for the fighters' skills?
And I get that you can't get good by only having professional fights but this is like watching kids try to make up fictional rules on the fly so they don't lose at hide and seek or some shit. It certainly doesn't help them get better at hide and seek.
Speaking of hide and seek, half of these people should have been seeking medical help from the concussions you gracefully protected them from.
I think that sparring - at least at your level - needs two things to be fruitful for both parties:
    A) A similar expertise of martial arts. Not art. Arts.
    B) and just straight up high IQ. NOT fight IQ, but also pattern recognition and social and emotional intelligence.
So, so much nuance and it's both beautiful and baffling.

REAAAALLLY appreciating that you shows how/when it DOESN'T work, and why.
Really helps figuring out the core principles at hand.
My personal favorite (as a low level fighter, though) is a push kick to the belly, when I feel the opponent is a second away from launching a forward-dashing storm/combos.
Then chain it with hop step side kick, very frontal-like too, to nail opponent's will to advance on me and break his/her rythm.
It gives me either the attacker's role back, or if opponent tries to side-step I'll start cross combos with my momentum/position, or at worst it will just give me time to catch my breath (which is how I use it the most, admittedly, at my poor gas tank level xD)
    Love those combinations/swiss-knife tips xD

That’s great man, you have these down to a fine art 👍 I always liked to throw a lot of low round kicks from the rear (right) leg, then you fake that kick once they’re expecting it - now that ryou’ve pivoted on the supporting leg, throw the right leg up as a side kick to the body while thrusting forward off the supporting leg.
