  • The Zercher squat is the squat variation that allows you to go the deepest.Yes, even deeper than the front squat. That makes it a great movement to build the quads and glutes. But it's also a very solid assistance exercise to increase your strength out of the hole in the squat. - Christian Thibaudeau

    Amazing exercise. And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music.

    I came across this exact video today and after doing it at the gym (with a current lower back pain injury from several years ago) this feels amazing! I had to do justice by commenting to let people know

    Hardest and most rewarding squat variation when performed correctly with the right weight. Hammers nearly every muscle in the body

    • @shellytanner
      @shellytanner 4 місяці тому

      Hammers? It's an isometric move for your upper body and mediocre for the quads.

    Doing a zercher squat that heavy is nuts. I’m jealous and now I want to get there myself.

      Nah, you can read 45 on red plate (on the inside) and 25 on the green/yellow one. (am colourblind idk lol) So it makes 6*45+2*25+45 = 365 which is about 162kg.

      You're right, it's 200kg. Red plates indicate 25kg (55.1lb) and yellow plates indicate 15kg (33lb), plus the 20kg bar.

    This variation is getting even more popular, but from my own experience it's uncomfortable and hurting especially in where bar placed. Since the weight is positioned in front of the body, it's quad dominant. I would rather to go with front squat.

    This is not a zercher squat, bar is on your front shoulder under your chin, this is another variation due to the difficulty of maintaining proper balance perform using the bar under your chin

    • @leonwong95

      This is the zercher squat. Bar on the front of your shoulder under your chin is called a front squat.

    Why would anyone ever do these? Just because it looks hard doesn't mean at all that it is more beneficial or works your muscles any more fully. If you see anyone doing these they are a gym clown.

      It's brilliant if you can't front squat 'traditionally'. I have hypermobility, meaning I cannot front squat using either the cross or neutral grip due to shoulders and wrists dislocations and instability. The Zercher Squat is immeasurably more comfortable and 'better' for me. Don't write people off as 'clowns' because of a certain exercise variation.

    • @ReignofHealth

      it's incredible for core strength and stabilization and can help with front or back squat plateaus due to core limiting factors. I also have clients who are medically unable to place loads on their back or even across their chest as in a front squat so a Zercher squat is a great alternative.

      Don't worry guys, i took away his 1 only like ;D. Almost always when something is very challenging, it builds tons of strength too. And no, bosuball tippytoe pistol squats with a sword in mouth do not count. Study more biomechanics, & anatomy, and you will easily find arguments to support Zerchers due to their perks. Why would anyone comment something that stupid, without doing their homework?
