    Anyone who thinks you can't handle big weights this way isn't paying attention: 1/You deadlift to just past the knees, after which, 2/you eliminate the weak-link,the grip.

      @@cykeok3525 just get some straps. rounding your spine and trying to change grips while the bar in on your knees is unsafe when getting close to failure.

      The correct way to zercher is deadlift it off .. drop down down repositioning arms as you lap the bar and then stand ... its used by stone lifters to replicate lap to chest .. ed zercher was an iawa lifter ... go and see iawa for its rules and actual comp use

    That is wrong. You pick up the bar in the crooks of your elbows and pull from the ground.

      It isn't. A zercher deadlift requires you to get into the zercher position from the floor and pull from there

      The only difference is in how you load into it. A zercher squat you usually pull from a rack and than do the squat. This is just partial range dead lift off the floor to get into position for a zercher squat to follow.

      The zercher squat doesn’t have you deadlift it off and on the floor every rep, just start and end of a set. But other then that it’s basically the same.

    I get a weird tearing, hot sort of pain in my lower abdomen when I do this exercise. My friend totally freaked me out by telling me it's a hernia, but I checked w/ my doctor/ specialist and it was not. Do you have some idea what it could be? I used to like doing this exercise, but I stopped because of this.

      I used to get that on lower weights but then i strengthened my core alot more with paused deadlifts and stuff like that now it only happens at high weights

      Just because it has not completely herniated this does suggest a point of weakness that is likely to herniate at some point and you are lucky that is has not by the sound of it. Work on some ab strengthening exercises and for the lower abs leg raises are good.

      The way he's doing it here should be fine, since he's using proper deadlift form to get the weight out of the "hole" on the bottom. The biggest issue with ZDL is when people use the elbow-hook off of the floor, which absolutely guarantees that you have to round your back out significantly to lift the weight out of the hole. Having this transition as he shows in this video should make the lift 100% fine. You're basically just combining either a standard or sumo deadlift with a Zercher squat.

      You really are dumb fuck aren’t you? These movements are specific for certain sports or movement patterns and need to be progressively loaded. If your a “gym bro” using bro science of course your going to be saying stupid shit. A two week course online does not not make you an expert in movement.
