Got the R3 recently and I have no complaints. Even if the MT03 has more comfortable ergo's the R3 isn't that far behind. Honestly don't think anyone would be disappointed either way.
Fantastic content as always Chase and team. I got a 2017 R3 with 1000 miles on it as my first motorcycle. Im 5'9 and around 150 pounds. As a first motorcycle, the R3 has been absolutely fantastic. I took my motorcycle course a few months after getting the bike last October. This season i've put 3 thousand miles on it and loved every mile. The bike came with everything I need such as an M4 slip on, frame sliders, and a tail tidy. Just to throw this in there since prices are wild right now, I paid $3998 plus tax, title, etc this past October. The bike costs me $25 in insurance and less than $100 for a payment a month. Many of my friends that had been riding for a while told me to get a 650 class to start with. With the skills I have now, I believe I would have handled a 650 well. I wanted a Ninja 650 as my first, so I went to my insurance company. I got insurance prices on 5 different bikes. After seeing how expensive even a new Ninja 650 was compared to a used R3, my choice was made. The R3 is a fantastic first bike. Everyday ride I get back from, I am blown away how capable the bike is. Once I got some miles on the road, I understood why my friends said a 650 would be better. I would definitely like more torque in my life. People like numbers and when theirs is higher. The number I like most, is my out of pocket cost per month for a learning tool. If you get the right tool, and learn to use it well the sky is the limit. In conclusion, The R3 is a compact, light weapon. An experienced rider on a twisty road would surprise you riding this 321cc machine. The price is very friendly, along with everything else about the bike. Chase and the team has said it better than I can as a new rider. The R3 series was fantastic. Thanks for all the great content. Been a viewer for many years before finally starting the journey.
I think long ride comfort is one of those things you build up over time. The first time I tried to ride 2 hours on a motorway without stopping, well I found those last minutes very difficult. Just wanted to stand up, walk about and stretch. But after that I found the next long journeys much easier. After a while I could ride through 2 fuel tanks. Literally just stop to fill up and then carry on for another 2 hours. 4 and 5 hours without a real break. This was on sports 600 and 1000, Honda CBR and Fireblade. In my opinion they fitted quite well, not small, enough space. They have wind protection.
You honestly will pick between the two based solely on looks. You can ride either as hard or as lite as you want. If the slight difference in riding position matters to you then you can buy the clip-ons for very little cost giving you both bikes for the price of one + clip-ons/handle bar and hardware. Just my 2¢
I rode both back-to-back,before buying the R3. The reason that I chose it over the Mt03 were that the R3 felt more planted, and also that the cutouts on the MT03 fuel tank were in a position where my knees kept catching on them at the wrong times - I had to really work around them, rather than them adding to the riding experience.
I've had an R3 for almost year and a half now and I'm loving every minute I spend riding on it. In some cases I catch myself thinking something more powerful would be better, but then I get to throw it around at pace on coastal roads here in Croatia and it just fills me up with joy. One thing I had to do though is change to a different helmet because of quite a lot of buffeting at higher speeds, but that is now the thing of the past. I'm still getting the higher "endurance" windscreen though. When I am able financially to get a new and bigger motorcycle I hope I won't need to sell this one. It is the first motorcycle that I have owned and it really got under my skin.
@@sagar2253 I had HJC RPHA11 and it was really bad above 80 km/h (around 50mph if I'm not mistaken). It was ok while tucked all the way down behind a windscreen, but it is not the comfortable way to travel for few hours. Then I got AGV Corsa-R on sale and it is much better. Though if you're in just the right position with closed chin went it starts to whistle a bit, but few centimetres lower or higher and its fine. I was lo looking at both here in late July. I went with the MT-03 and love it man. I am planning on getting a lot of those race mods here when I feel like I need a bit more. The ergo is spot on why I choose the MT-03.
Been riding for 40 years now. I own a nc750x dct and often ride my friends r3. I tried à lot of bikes in my life and the only other bikes that puts such smile in my face are the ktm duke 390 and 690. And considering reliability, the r3 is a no brainer. The riding positions is definitely not that agressive, should not be a consideration comparing to the mt03. Neither is the fairing for those who do their own maintenance. The r3 fairing takes only a few minutes to remove and is a definite plus for comfort at highway speed.
Definitely the MT03. Going back and forth in the city. I'd rather have a more comfortable riding position. Especially when in traffic with no lane splitting.
Thanks for your help -- power and comfort, city ride --- MT03 it is! Also, as you mentioned, sitting "in" rather than "on top" of the bike makes me feel more secured.
You won't have any complaints with the R3. I've gotten so many compliments on the looks and a lot of people who don't know motorcycles think its a 600.

I've never owned a bike before so this will be my first purchase of one. Thanks for this video it helped me A LOT! Now to save a bit more money up to buy one!

Recently bought the 2021 R3 as my first bike, was a hard decision between that and the mt-03. I don't find the ergos on the R3 that bad, I actually find it really comfortable, but maybe that's because I'm a shorter woman. Super stoked with it either way
Living in the Philippines I have the greatest of both worlds, Very congested city riding and wonderful twisty mountain roads. I have a Vulcan 650 S which I love to take into the mountains roads on nice long cruses and I'm really looking for something more agile to split through traffic with. You have just convinced me to go for the MT 03. Thanks for a great explanation between the two.
Your videos are very well produced...I appreciate that. Here's the thing...I'm not a new rider and I'm certainly not the "intended" audience for either of these bikes, but...I've been considering a smaller/lighter bike that is easier to handle. I've been riding for about 15 years and have had just about every kind of bike...cruise, sport bike, naked, dual sport, adventure touring and modern retro now (Triumph Bonneville T120 Black). Problem with the Bonnie is she's 525ish lbs wet...she's a heavy girl. My wife recently decided she isn't interested in riding anymore and I want to get something for just me. My top contenders have been the MT03, Ninja 400, KTM 390 (Duke or Adventure) or go real light and simple with something like a Kawasaki KLX230. I'm not concerned about any of the Kawasakis or Yamahas as far as reliability/durability...the KTM gives me reasons to be worried about long-term reliability, but they're the best looking/most engaging of the group. Decisions, decisions...any advice??
What I found lacking in this obviously rushed presentation were comparisons of suspension - is the MT-03's softer as would be expected. Does the MT-03 handle bumps or rough roads better? What about wind buffeting? How much does the R3 protect the rider from the elements, and how much does its aerodynamic profile affect performance?
I literally just bought a 2020 R3 in the blue color 2 weeks ago! Phenomenal first bike. Also looked at the MT03 but my legs were too long to fit comfortably against the tank
My 2 cents… both are great. I have a 2021 MT 03. If you plan to blast over 80 on a consistent commute.. get the R3. The wind on the MT is crazy. I love it but at 100mph… your a giant parachute.
As a rider with experience, in the past I’d had a few dual sports, even a ‘94 FZR 1000, getting back into riding after a too long hiatus, I got a 2015 r3, loved the agility, then bought a 2023 mt03 to commute on, sold the r3, but plan to buy a new r3 within 6-8 months, and have both bikes.
Im kinda confuse before but now i had already the idea on which bike to have next, thanks to this brief yet informative video, enjoy and have a safe ride on!
If I buy MT03, ride for a while than replace the handlebar to clip handles of R3? Would it be a straight fit? Great if it would because it'd be very economical change.
It's really easy choice. If you want a motorcycle that you can commute comfortably on, take it on the weekends to do some twisty mountain raids, perhaps even some light track days, get the MT03. If you're only riding the motorcycle as a weekend toy, get the R3. MT03 has capabilities that most riders won't ever reach at a much more comfortable package.
I think everyone should start with a standard/naked bike. The more upright riding style just makes everything easier. It makes you feel more comfortable/confident. And with a windshield, you can take longer rides without getting cramps and back pain.
Not new to motorcycles, last bike was a CBR600. Just wanting a lower displacement bike because I have more fun on them and the R3 is probably going to be my next bike.
I was looking for this specific video! Comparing a naked and a sport bike! Thank you! Still deciding what my first bike should be. Leaning towards a sport bike. Really like the CBR650R
Well Chase as you said most of us are looking for our first bike so all the riding I do is imaginary. And the worst part is people are still nearly killing me everyday.
Yea, it's rough on the roads when you're riding an imaginary bike. Grab a real one so they don't think you're just some crazy loon playing in traffic. :)
Counterpoint on the MT03 vs R3 for commuting and around town, throw saddle bags on the R3. Tiny sport touring bike. That's what I do an it's pretty slick honestly.
I'm probably going for an MT-03 once I get my license next spring. Mainly for comfort and overall Ergo's, got a 20 min highway ride to the city, which also is not that much of a drag. And because in my province, your insurance doubles over 400cc.
Salve mano.
Tive ambas as motos.
Just sat on both bikes yesterday MT03 and R3 , and now here I am .. still looking at comparisons 😂. I'm leaning towards the R3, But I'm afraid I'm losing out on the MT 03.
I'm trying to think what the equivalent to bikes like the R3 would have been when I started riding in the early 90s, but Inbetween practical commuters and screaming 2-strokes and 4 cylinder pocket rockets there wasn't much like this.
How would you compare the wet multi plate clutch of the MT03 to a bike with an assist slipper clutch? Like Ninja 400 or CFMOTO 300NK? Is it that noticeable of a difference?
I've owned nothing but sport bikes TL 1000r, ZX10R and CBR 1000 now I'm looking for a commuter bike to go through the freeways and City driving that mt 3 looks very fun
Appreciate the comparo. This is a real toss-up, as I've had supersports and nakeds, and enjoyed both equally. However, the knees and hips are telling me to go with the MT while my head is telling me "ignore your knees and hips. They'll be fine." So, maybe the current $1K difference in price (R3=$5499, MT-03=$4499) may be the deciding factor!
I am looking for my first bike and these 2 are what I am looking at along with a kawasaki z400 and a kawasaki ninja 400 but my main question is that on the Mt-03 are the head lights bright enough at night time they seem so small
If you have to commute at highway speeds or 65+ for the majority of your trips I would get an R3 for the wind protection. Even with an aftermarket screen the MT03 will not be the same as the protection of a full fairing.
Totally opposite stuff here, sold my rocket bikes and thought I could ride dual sport just to still have a bike, but want a real light weight bike, and don't want to cruise at high speeds anymore, but am I going to be happy with a MT03, I haven't owned a bike in ten years, pray for me guys
Well I got a couple of questions, first does the mto3 and R3 have the same seat height? also I want to be able to have high speed at points of time, but also be able to be a daily just for going to work which one sounds best? I’m 16 and looking to buy a bike and already have my permit.

This helped so much!! I’m getting the MT 03 for sure now! I was so on the R series train but it’s not what I need, MT all the way.
Thanks for taking the time out of the day to make this I was thinking the same exact thing of what I should
Great video Chase! I would love to see one of these on the Kawasaki Z400 vs Ninja 400 and Z650 and Ninja 650.
I literally just bought a 2020 R3 in the blue color 2 weeks ago! Phenomenal first bike. Also looked at the MT03 but my legs were too long to fit comfortably against the tank
The 2019 version doesnt have the tank problem
THIS HAS SUCH AMAZING CAMERA ANGLES, ITS AMAZING AND SUPPER INFORMATIONAL. amazing content, it made me get engaged in the vid
My 2 cents… both are great. I have a 2021 MT 03. If you plan to blast over 80 on a consistent commute.. get the R3. The wind on the MT is crazy. I love it but at 100mph… your a giant parachute.
And that is why I am thinkin about changing from MT03 to R3 :)
im a first time rider and a sucker for the sport bike look. i got a 2021 r3 put 400km on her so far and loving every minute!
If I had the money, I'd go for the R3.
Gonna have to swap out those turn signals though
R3 looks better but mt03 much nicer to ride so riding is the more important factor for me than looks
thanks for the video! The Mt-03 sold out in my area and I was not convinced on the R3 but now I am!!
Excelent comparison. I'm a smaller human wanting a smaller around town bike and the MT03 checks the boxes.
3 years from now, hoping to get my own r3.. dream bike🖤
I'm making my MT03 into a mini adventure tourer; 3 pieces of Shad luggage & when I wear out the OEM rubber, it will get Avon Trailriders 80/20 tires
MT-03 is perfect for street... R3 only to track days.
An R3? On a track? Definitely not
@@myarmfell0ff better than mt obviously but it's definitely not "only" for the track.
Because of my height and long arms most sport bikes like the R-3, are upright and comfortable.
I think everyone should start with a standard/naked bike. The more upright riding style just makes everything easier. It makes you feel more comfortable/confident. And with a windshield, you can take longer rides without getting cramps and back pain.
If you suffer from back pain, forget about the R3 lol
Not new to motorcycles, last bike was a CBR600. Just wanting a lower displacement bike because I have more fun on them and the R3 is probably going to be my next bike.
TOURING - MT03
SPORTS - R3
Both are amazing and quality and they won't let you down.
I believe you meant "Torque is also very important to me" :D
I'm a huge naked bike fan. And I mostly commute on city and country roads. My choice is the MT-03
I was looking for this specific video! Comparing a naked and a sport bike! Thank you!
Still deciding what my first bike should be. Leaning towards a sport bike. Really like the CBR650R
I mean no matter how slow it is but that r3 looks really good
Bought an R3 two weeks ago! The R25 and MT-25 are very popular in my country (Japan), but I found a 2019 R3 for pretty cheap!
The 250cc segment is very popular too in here, Indonesia
how much?
Well Chase as you said most of us are looking for our first bike so all the riding I do is imaginary. And the worst part is people are still nearly killing me everyday.
Yea, it's rough on the roads when you're riding an imaginary bike. Grab a real one so they don't think you're just some crazy loon playing in traffic. :)
Counterpoint on the MT03 vs R3 for commuting and around town, throw saddle bags on the R3. Tiny sport touring bike. That's what I do an it's pretty slick honestly.
R3 all the way. I'm a "s-sport" style lover. But this new light blue color SUX.
OMG, the video quality is in whole new level.what camera are you using for outdoor videos? I am new to your channel.subscribed
I'm probably going for an MT-03 once I get my license next spring. Mainly for comfort and overall Ergo's, got a 20 min highway ride to the city, which also is not that much of a drag.
And because in my province, your insurance doubles over 400cc.
You do the best reviews in UA-cam keep it up bro
Very well explained. My opinion is very similar to yours as started young and went for sports bikes but now comfort is the most important for me…
Great video. Extremely helpful. So much clearer and direct to the point than some other videos. Thanks!
I rode the r3, mt is better in every way!
Change my mind.
Thanks man! Helped a lot! I bought one R3 here in Brazil but your video was very important to choose correctly!
Salve mano.
Tive ambas as motos.
I love r3. It was just as comfortable.
i know this is impossible but i would love having both bikes mashed together to create a new one would be fantastic
I really appreciates the way you shoot that videos.
really amazing.
Just sat on both bikes yesterday MT03 and R3 , and now here I am .. still looking at comparisons 😂. I'm leaning towards the R3, But I'm afraid I'm losing out on the MT 03.
I own the MT03, love it. Kinda want the MT07. Personally I find the MT03 more comfortable than than the R3
Just bought a blue R3 just like in the video as my first bike. Such a beautiful bike. No complaints so far.
This helps! Older guy but looking to get into cycling and looking for more of the MT03... Thanks!
MT03 cuz the upright position and naked displays for a super Moto feel
you can buy a R3 for town too, but this depends on you, i know someone who has a R6 and he's walking with the R6 in town, depends on you
Going to pick up an MT-03 soon and I am excited for it.
I have the MT-03 for the upright riding position and ease to work on.
That's some high quality footage
fantastic video on helping me decide, thank you!
Wtf, I was just debating a couple hours ago and this vid pops up
I swear google is watching
Yup thats facts
Love the videos man! Question, what’s your vlog setup? It sounds really clean
Didnt really help at all. I was hoping he was going to do some high way on the mt03 to see how much more wind you eat not having a fairing to block it
Thanks! I bought r3 cause i love speed bikes. Mt 3 also excellent bike! 🙌
