An MC Commute is definitely big shoes because talking and explaining nuances of a bike while also riding through traffic and knowing all these facts in your head is huge, Zack was the same way in his first videos too. Well done Adam Waheed on your first commute! How exciting! Just gotta figure out audio and it'll be perfect. Thank YOU for not using any cheesy loud rock music!
Great review! I just got my R25 two months back (basically an R3 but tuned down cause of restrictions) here in Malaysia and I gotta say its a super fun bike to ride on! Sold off my Monster 796 few years back and decided to go back into riding when this model caught my eyes. Really fun bike to ride in the city, in freeways, as mentioned you gotta rev it up to keep up to speed (I’m guessing the R3 has slightly more power), but all in all, really happy with this one!
Nice review Adam, happy to see the MC commute quality is not going to change, good stuff! Watching you ride i think it is clear that you, just like Zack, know what you are talking about, great skill on display!
It seems like I'm not the only one who is used to better sound quality but hey, if it can't be Zack, I'm glad it's you. Been watching your stuff for years. Now that we got the first awkward commute out of the way, loosen up and enjoy yourself ! :)
I only just bought one in blue for my son , at first I didn’t really care much for the bike but because he’s just got his license I figured this bike would be ok . After about a week I decided to take it for a run , my god I was really impressed and surprised with how easily this bike rode and the performance took me by surprise, if your just starting out on the road this bike is a fantastic choice , I later took the ninja 400 and the CBR 500 for a run as my curiosity was beginning to itch a little towards the entry level super bike and by far I’d say you’d be silly to not choose the R3 , the ninja didn’t ride anywhere near as good and the CBR ( I’m a Honda fan ) I thought was in its class but obviously the 500 has more power and weight so also far more expensive but I still felt the better ride came from the R3 .
Great review, Adam! Gonna miss Ari and Zach, but really looking forward to seeing more of what's to come. Would love it if you guys kept with the tradition of doing a small walkaround of the bike at the end of MC Commute, just so we can get a good impression of the bikes visuals, and not just the instrument panel and how it rides :)

I'm all for keeping the channel going, Mr Waheed (which I thought was called Warhead for a while, that would be the coolest name ever) has what it takes to fill the vacant shoes. With that being sad, sound has to be sorted asap.
@@stevenkelby2169 I mean, Zack did pull wheelies on a regular basis, lane splitting is controversial but where I live you're shunned upon If you DON'T lane split.
On that note displaying the speedo while traveling what's appeared to be 70+ on city streets isn't the best example. Additionally ABS doesn't simply allow a new rider to just grab the brake and get the best performance. Typically if you push ABS to the point of engagement you are increasing braking distance. ABS isn't a replacement for good riding practice.
@@Koleboetel I agree. I noted several times the speedo was reading out 80+ mph on roads that looked like they were 45mph max. I know everyone enjoys a spirited ride and I'm no saint when it comes to speeding but this is a bit extreme and I feel sets the wrong example as a representative of our motorcycling community.
Great review. Been riding the 2015 model for 3 years as my primary daily commuter & it's perfect. One of the weakness as mentioned is the vibration on the footpegs. But it was easily remedied by replacing them with an aftermarket rubberised one, which cost me all of $5 & 2 min work. Now it'll happily rev to redline without those irritating vibes 😁
Happy to see MC continue at Motorcyclist (nice job Adam!) and for it to exist with Zack too. Really impressed that everyone made that happen, as most times it would end in a battle that everyone lost.

Great work on the video! Of all the people they could have chosen to try and pick this up I'm glad it was him. Close up shots of the bike at the end of the ride would be great though. Love to get a closer look at these bikes. Also I'm keen to see a review of the new CBR650R. Street/sport is the category I'm interested in riding next.
I'm a Kawasaki guy though and through. With that said, Yamaha is and has been in a league of their own when it comes to the 300cc class. No one comes close in my opinion.
@@ReTr093 it like the zx14 being the busa killer. Kawasaki cheated buy adding more cc's. 2 different class of bikes. Suzuki could have easily built a bike with 1500cc and smoked the zx14. Then kawi would have built a 1600cc, and so on and so on. Like I said in my initial comment, I'm a kawasaki guy all day. However it's not a competition if they just add more cc's. They need to try and out power the competition using the same size engine.
As the other comments have suggested, your audio needs work however nice video overall. A lot of pressure to fill Zack's shoes and you did a great job! Keep these videos coming. :)
Nice review, got to all the important bits, pointed out some little stuff that'd only be noticed if one were paying attention and hey, tried to back it in and wheelie, too. Keep it up Adam.
I don't know the law of your country, but where I leave, lane splitting is a big advantage of motorcycles. It's the primarily reason people buy then, to avoid traffic. Also, I love to see a video with both normal traffic commuting and some more spirited driving. Very insightful. The audio was bad, but I hope it is soon to be fixed. Nice job guys keep it up
Good Review Adam. I love the updates. I like the old instrument better. My Wife has a 15 model. She loves the bike. I thought it had way, way too many recalls. I hope Yamaha is right first time with this one.
@@pauld.b7129 The gas tank had to be jacked up as there were clearance issues with the engine. Faulty clutch bearing. Faulty oil pump drive shaft. Faulty ignition switch. Some had a weak triple tree. We were just informed of a bad shifter spring along with a faulty coolant hose. Who knows what else down the road. My Wife loves the bike and so do I but the recalls have both of us to the point where we don't trust riding the bike for fear of what else may be wrong that hasn't had a recall. For me? My confidence in Yamaha is ruined. I understand the 15 was a first year bike but this is so uncommon for a bike from any of the big four out of Japan.
@@williamwintemberg i have a '16 r3 and the only recall ive gotten for the bike was the leaking coolant hose. Im surprised how many issues you had, even my buddies with their '15s only got the coolant hose recall.
@@anthonydeleon717 My wife has an early 15 and I can assure you her recalls are and we're very real. I can't answer to recalls others have or haven't gotten.
I bought a 2017 Yamaha R3 as my first bike at close to 30 years old. I am extremely happy with my choice. Within a few rides I feel very confident. I can imagine having a bit of fear if I had bought a bigger bike as a first bike. With my R3, after learning basics I am feeling wonderful. Watching videos of people absolutely ripping up canyons with an R3 made it an easy choice. At under 150lbs, my R3 feels like a rocket ship. Thanks for the awesome content as always MC!
@@lsalvage3228 I had a 2016 MT-03 (naked R3) and I maxed out the speedometer at 199kmp downhilll, now I have an MT07 but damn that 321cc bike was a blast to ride
I sold my Triumph Sprint RS 955i after 12 years for something smaller. Being older I needed smaller lighter bike that is more to my capability. My R3 is converted long distance touring with a high quality after market seat, Akrapovic slip on, wider rear tire (150/60) and a new rear sprocket with one less teeth to equal factory speedo. Add a tank bag, rear saddles, rear top bag, and you can travel a long way comfortably.
Two issues with the new series. First is the audio, which has been brought up multiple times already. Second, this feels like it is bouncing around a lot and he isnt riding like a responsible commuter. Zack had a format to the show, he would go through specs on the bike, then talk about the engine, ergos, highway, brakes etc in a specific order. This feels like it is bouncing all over the place and seeing him rocket away from every stop light at wide open throttle and clearly violate every single speed limit doesn't seem like a good ambassador of our sport. I'm not saying dont have fun but he was riding like a jackass...
Agreed and explaining ABS as a just squeeze it as hard as you want. ABS is no substitute for good breaking techniques, engagement of ABS can actually increase breaking distance not to mention this bike would not have cornering ABS.
I get the fever for a bike every year and I may finally pull the trigger this year. Thinking this would be a good beginner bike for me and I like the price point. Great video.
Zach’s voice was soothing but I’m glad the series is still going. Please make sure to take the freeway (I haven’t watched the whole video yet) I do hate those teardrop signal lights but I like how they made the Yamaha R look alike. Reminds me of Predator
I noticed that too, I think it was cool. I guess that only works at really high RPM, the engine is so desperate for that next gear that it will accept it anyway it can have it
The audio inside the helmet was better than most. I came down from a big Triumph 955i triple to the first R3 mostly because I'm 5' 9.5" inches with a 29" inseam. The Triumph was easy enough to ride, but I broke my leg on a steep driveway because I didn't have good touch with my feet. Even so I rode it for 12 years. Now the R3 has provided me with better foot touch, lighter, more flickable, however the mileage is the same because the Triumph got 50mpg. With a new seat with better padding (including gel bottom), I use my smaller R3 with saddle bags, rear top bag, and tank bag to ride long trips. It gets me where I go quickly and with a higher fun factor. Now the tires, the rear wheel is wide enough for the 150/60 radial allowing you to step up to high end Z-rated radials. Why they stick with the 140/70 is beyond me. That wider tire make a difference in the ride and the handling. The better tires immediately changes the overall character of the bike (Metzeler Sportec M7RR highly recommended with the rear tire size change). The speed is a bit lower, but dropping a tooth in the rear will bring the speedo back to normal. The reason I said so much is because the R3 is more than entry, it is a quality bike for sport touring, that also fits smaller people.
Great video!! Not easy to replace Zack, but this video was really good. Keep Up! P. S. I'm from Portugal, and it's amazing how many European cars are in California. Had no idea.
Nice, i like the format, the new presenter does a great job so please keep them episodes comming. Helmet sound would be a great thing if improved but i guess you guys have to just trial and error a bit. Great stuff
If your getting into biking go second hand, realistically your going to drop it in the driveway or something silly and I'd be an aweful lot more gutted to drop a new bike than a second hand one
@@MrChocalatestarfish You're right. I bought a new bike for my first and even though I still haven't dropped it, I see how easy it is to slip up and fuck up. Especially accelerating while turning if you drop the clutch too fast that things gonna fall lol. I also stalled my bike and almost dropped it too all in the first month I had it.
I don't call 50mpg "sippin'" for a 300cc machine when it comes to fuel consumption, my 2002 995i triumph does far better than that! But thats the price of having a high revving engine! More revs = more fuel/air cycles= lower MPG! Not a good advert for a commuter machine! You want to be a bit more cautious splitting lanes at that speed too, it only takes one driver to change lanes at short notice with no signal and no mirror check....
He's running it wide open from every red light. 50 mpg isn't bad when driving wide open everywhere. I'm sure if you just drive casually, the mpg will jump way up.
All motorcycle companies are now making their entry level bikes just mini versions of their superbikes.

What? The Ninja 400 literally beats it in every way
@@ReTr093 aesthetically I like the re more. As for power, they are not in the same class. The Kawi has 100cc more so that kills the power argument.
Glad to see MC Commute is still going to be around, but I gotta ask... is your paycheck written by Yamaha Motor Corp. ???
Nice review, got to all the important bits, pointed out some little stuff that'd only be noticed if one were paying attention and hey, tried to back it in and wheelie, too. Keep it up Adam.
Gotta work on that sound buddy
@@williamwintemberg oh no i believe it its just surprising
@@anthonydeleon717 I understand your surprise. As I said before, we love the bike but we are a little more than rattled about it all.
I have a 2018 R3 ABS... Damn, I love the R3!!!
Top speed?
175 kmph (indicative), 6th gear @ 11000 rpm. Restricted.
ABS is no substitute for good breaking techniques, engagement of ABS can actually increase breaking distance not to mention this bike would not have cornering ABS.
bro if you are offended at him zipping from red lights you should check faisal khan's channel...
I get the fever for a bike every year and I may finally pull the trigger this year. Thinking this would be a good beginner bike for me and I like the price point. Great video.
Well someone won't be late for work for sure😀. Good video, good bike still...would you take this over a Ninja 400?
I have a 2017 R3. I would take the Ninja 400. Only reason is more power for the highway.
Aside from the power the ninja comes with a slipper clutch...
For those wondering, he was riding in Irvine California. South OC has some really good riding areas since it isn't as developed as north OC.
Thats a pretty cool bike
Love Yamaha!
Zach’s voice was soothing but I’m glad the series is still going. Please make sure to take the freeway (I haven’t watched the whole video yet)
I do hate those teardrop signal lights but I like how they made the Yamaha R look alike. Reminds me of Predator
Clutchless shifting?
I noticed that too, I think it was cool. I guess that only works at really high RPM, the engine is so desperate for that next gear that it will accept it anyway it can have it
@@lokitomanny nah even at 4k rpm you can do it, but not at lower than 3k
you forgot to do the walk around of the bike once you arrived, always nice to get a good walk around, great work on your first MC commute video
Yamaha Yzf R3 only 5.3k
Me with my 6k mountain bike "Can i trade in my bike for that?"
20th time of watching this, doesn't get tired of watching this
Microphone quality is not that good.
How about taking a Royal Enfield Himalayan for a spin...err commute!!!
Great video!! Not easy to replace Zack, but this video was really good. Keep Up!
P. S. I'm from Portugal, and it's amazing how many European cars are in California. Had no idea.
lets see the new honda cbr650r next !!!!!!
Nice, i like the format, the new presenter does a great job so please keep them episodes comming. Helmet sound would be a great thing if improved but i guess you guys have to just trial and error a bit. Great stuff
This one or ninja 400????
r3 for sure brohhh
400
If your getting into biking go second hand, realistically your going to drop it in the driveway or something silly and I'd be an aweful lot more gutted to drop a new bike than a second hand one
@@MrChocalatestarfish You're right. I bought a new bike for my first and even though I still haven't dropped it, I see how easy it is to slip up and fuck up. Especially accelerating while turning if you drop the clutch too fast that things gonna fall lol. I also stalled my bike and almost dropped it too all in the first month I had it.
400. R3 is slow
Awesome first episode Adam.
I like how the reviewer ride the bike . Nice way to review and test the bike to see how it performs in the real world.
Bruh you be riding the 💩 outtah these bikes👌🏾👌🏾
Tre Webster lmao I watched him just fly through the gear without even touching the clutch... poor bike. It’s there for s reason lol
Isaiah Spinney nothing wrong with that
I liked it! Good work Adam. Nice to see you around here.
Gotta ease off those dork revs at the traffic lights:) brum brum brum
Well done Adam. Not easy starting afresh in an already established role.
A bit too aggressive driving, imoho. Good review though.
