Mt03 makes a great first bike for those who are a little nervous and need something super forgiving. If riding comes somewhat naturally to her where she could safely / comfortably handle more power id check out the kawi Z650. It is slightly taller but the front of the seat is super narrow meaning her legs can go straight down rather than out to the sides. Its easily the most approachable middle weight for shorter riders and with roughly 70ish HP which in my opinion is the sweet spot where it's not overwhelming for new riders but still enough to be entertaining even for seasoned riders.
@dustinCE she got a rebel 300 because she generally like the cruiser aesthetic and lower seat. it's a pretty fun bike that even I'll take to work sometimes and wrong it out. only issues are not suitable for long trips or freeways due to (1) lack of power and (2) comfort with small seat, ergos, and rear suspension. she did get to test an mt03 at MotoGP in Austin. it was weird for her at first due to the totally different riding style and leaning more into turns. but she liked it. since then she's tested a couple of bikes: rebel500, rebel 1100 dct, Vulcan s 650, and even a Live wire. overall the rebel 300 is a solid starter. almost purpose built for short beginners
@@D.H.CE_FL I am 4' 10" and got a BMW g310r. The dealership had their own lowering link installed and I got the lower seat as well. It's been a great bike!
What I love about my 300cc is I can chop the throttle like a jackass and not die. Also, it’s way more fun wringing every HP out of a small bike rather than understressing a super sport or liter bike
People say that endelessly, and UA-camrs recommend it, but I prefer the opposite. I prefer not screwing the arse off a bike. I like a bike to do what I want, and have the bike do it easy with no stress. Hence the bike will last longer and perform better. @@DonaldMohrMusic I had a blast on a Yamaha Virago 250 on the Spanish mountain roads of Mallorca. And that bike was slower than this one. But It was so light and nimble to check around on tight twisty mountain roads. Have a look on Google Maps for Sa Calobra, amazing roads. When building experience and practising "advanced" techniques I find lighter bikes to be easier to throw around. And it's fun wringing the throttle, through the gears, getting the maximum. I've had Fireblade etc where it's rare to get full revs in 1st or 2nd. I had a 6 speed 50cc 2-stroke with a 10,000-12,000 redline, that needed maximum revs in every gear just to get to 50 mph :-)) I enjoyed it in London.

Proud owner of a 2020 MT-03, awesome to see you reviewing one! I'm definitely on the shorter rider scale and it's very comfortable! Just rode home from work with mine :D

I think you must be unique on UA-cam and I'm glad you got into this side of motorcycle presentation rather than always riding your own bike and giving us a general perspective of your experiences. Great reviews and advice.
Excellent cast. Glad you mentioned the rider height recommendations for those making their first purchase. Will be looking forward to your coming reviews in the future.
My wife has a 2022 MT-03 & she loves it. I started teaching her to ride about 18 months ago & it has been a great bike for her as she's quite short & had never ridden before. Where we live (Queensland, Australia) you have to do a minimum 3 months on a learner's permit before you can get your RE licence, which restricts you to LAMS (Learner Approved Motorcycle Scheme) approved bikes - which is based on power to weight ratio - & the MT-03 is at the upper end (power wise) of those. The MT-03 has been a great bike for her to learn on & now she's keen to step up to a Street Triple (I had one & she rode it a few times & loved it. She's also ridden my Speed Triple 1200 RS, but the seat is a bit high for her). I had to laugh watching your review because you pointed out the same things I find every time I ride it - especially hitting the horn a lot when I'm going for the indicator switch! 🙄
I think it's great you're doing review to help people with your ergonomic stature get an idea of how it will fit and feel for them. I see lot's of reviews from average size guys (which I am), but not many from other sized people and think it's an under served demographic.
This is my bike and I love it! I got the 2022 and I added a little windscreen and it makes my commute much easier! Im 5’7 and with the windscreen no issues going faster on the highway. I love it! 😻
I just passed my mod 1 today for the A2 licence (UK). This is the bike I'm looking to get - realistically this is something I could manoeuvre. For my tests I'm riding the honda 500f and whilst I can ride it (high speeds and low speeds) if I needed to physically walk it from one place to another I'd struggle. So this perspective from you is really helpful. Good to see people paying attention to lower cc's also :)
Great video and great bike! I have become an advocate of smaller bikes after decades of larger bikes. I love my Honda 300R, and it is so fun to ride and perfectly capable of highway speeds up to 90 mph. It is also so easy to maneuver around at just 317 lbs wet weight. Thanks for a great video and road test!
I own a 2020 MT-03, myself, the one with black bodywork and black wheels. I use it for commuting back and forth to work and for pleasure riding, which means sport riding on back roads. This MT-03 is a fantastic-handling motorcycle. It feels great into, through the middle, and exiting corners, giving a terrific feel. It feels so good to me that I usually forget all about it being "only" 321cc and simply get down to enjoying handling the bike.
Great idea having 'future Doodle' . Way too many people say incorrect stuff (during a vlog or at other times) and having a correction from 'future' you is funny and satisfying. Great thinking Doodle.
I enjoy your opinion when you review different models. I had thought this Yamaha would be light and a fun ride and you confirmed it , plus your great detail insight. Good stuff!
These types of bikes are perfect for large congested city riding regardless of your size. Low to the ground, easy to control, quick and nimble. Also easy to park if you have to get it up on a center stand. A lot of track riders including tall men over 6 feet ride R3’s and other 300 cc bikes.
Nice review and nice bike. These low displacement bikes aren't just good bikes for beginners. They can also be good bikes for more experienced riders depending on what type of rider you are and what you are looking for in a bike.
Yes! I hate when they always call these "beginner" bikes. I have been riding for 3 years now, so still on the newer side of my riding career but ready for a new bike. I have no desire to speed like crazy on the highway so I feel like this bike will be perfect for me without the feeling of needing more, feel comfortable, and not have to deal with unnecessary extra weight.
I actually like female bike reviews better because they have the tendency to tell you their body size before they start talking about ergonomics. Most guys tend to just talk ergonomics and tell you how great or bad they are on the bike without ever telling you how tall they are. I have pretty short legs so I kind of want to pay attention to those things.
Great perspective of the review. I didn't realize it myself, you absolutely correct about reviews being skewed toward male riders. Keep up the great reviews.
Hi Doodle. Even though this trip went pretty bad for you, I'm glad you were still able to get good footage of the bike to make a great review. Keep up the good work. I enjoy your reviews of different bikes. I'm considering a naked bike myself, to add variety to my Vmax and Fat Boy Lo I have now. Take care.
I normally ride a customized Harley that was perfectly built to suit my 5 foot 7 frame even with 2 bad knees but have been looking at the idea of getting the R3 just for a quick around town ride but the look of a sport bike is a deterrent for me because I like to see the frame not plastic and now I know there is an option. Same motor, trans, and all basics just does not look like it belongs in Tron. Even new the cost is attractive so this will get moved to the top of the list of test rides once the cash is there to purchase, thank you for pointing this option out, I will head to a dealership to check it out in the morning to see how well it will fit.
Im so glad I wasn’t too scared to get the sv650 even though I’m very short & am not flat footed. I would have been flat footed on the MT 03. But I think I’d be kicking myself after 4 weeks for getting the 03. The sv650 Suzuki is awesome to learn on. I suggest getting the z650 or SV650 or even the MT07 if you are even a lil thinking bout a bigger bike.
Hi Doodle, one thing I like about smaller displacement bikes, like this gorgeous Yamaha, is that you get to use all the gears most of the time and run the bike hard. I love to squeeze every ounce of power out the engine and make it scream! That's harder to do on bigger bikes for various reasons. I hope you review the Kawasaki Vulcan S 650 one day. Nice videos of these Mid size bikes.
Yamaha have held that title for a long time . The bike that has had the least amount of repairs while under warranty. Then all you need to do after that is basic matinence to maintain that reliability.
That a face! Im getting a transformer vibe :p Definitely a solid choice. I'm excited to see your thoughts on the MT07 and R7. Yamaha is really bringing the thunder. Thank u
Oh, here's the video...glad you made it out of that situation safely, that guy banging on the bathroom door was obviously a douche...the type that wouldn't dare confront another man in that maner...Ride safe hun...You inspire me to start taking classes, and do the damn thing....God-Bless...🙏🏾
Just to start off, I love your videos and content, keep it up! Regarding your comparison of the Yamaha MT03 to the KTM Duke 390, there are quite a lot of differences. I think the MT03 competes more with the older Kawasaki Z300 but perhaps also the Z400. The KTM Duke 390 is in another league, the components are a much higher quality (brakes/suspension), full colour TFT dash, higher "more grown up" seat height and to be honest the 373cc single cylinder is a MUCH punchier engine down low compared to the twins from Kawasaki and Yamaha. Although, at higher speeds the KTM will fall flat a bit. The MT03 is definitely a much more forgiving and easy going bike, perfect beginner naked for sure. Anyways. Just my 2c

Hi Doodle, it's great to see another glamping video, and I'm a long time fan of Yamaha! I love your down to earth approach, and your knack of answering our questions, before we ask them, is down to experience. That was a good walk-around, with nice detail, and Yamaha certainly knows how to excite us.💗💗
The r3 riding position actually got more aggressive than it originally was. After many early r3 riders did the lower clip on mod the current 3r actually comes that way. So the difference in position is more extreme from an mt03 to a new r3 vs an older r3.
I thought it was a KTM Duke at first. Yamaha has copied the wheels, mirrors, tank so if you are a shorter person the height of the Yamaha is good . I am 6 / 1 feet tall and I'm still getting used to hopping on my 2021 duke 390 as it is very tall. The duke is a joy to ride. PS, you can trust this lady as she is excellent at reviews.
I loved the look of the MT03 (my main reason I was dead set on it, but for my 5'3 frame, the z400 was not only the better buy (500 more and u get 399 cc's) and cheaper out the door, it was just more comfortable to sit on. Its much narrower on the seat and so ur more able to touch the ground. Also it comes with abs and the display was much clearer and nicer lol. I was wondering if u could do a review on it? I'm a new rider and I've only taken it out about twice now so it feels fun and easy to learn on for me. But curious as to what a more seasoned rider like urself might feel about it.
Ha, nice name. I got the mt-03 and I’m happy with it, but I see it as a starter bike that can be used for track days when I get a different bike. Glad you’re happy with your z400, they are pretty sweet!
@@seriousmechanicing nice choice! Love the look of that bike. N haha nice name indeed 😜 n thanks! I plan on taking the z4 to the track eventually as well but glad ur enjoying ur bike!
Exactly why I’m here 😂 it’s the bike I am willing to get as a first bike and been looking to every review I could find, discovered your channel with another video (and love it) but as soon as I saw you were reviewing this bike I jumped directly into the video 😍
Excellent work! Thank you so much for this video. When you mentioned about the play in the throttle and the consequence on a bigger bike, that was all I needed to persuade me to get this great little bike.
Excellent video! Great points! I noticed that there seems to be a return to lower cc bikes. I am not sure why? But, I just purchased a single cylinder bike and it went against what I typically ride but wanted a around the town bike that could do freeway rides as well. My Road King too much work to just get out of the garage and just chill. Also, these bikes are very nice. I hope to see more of your videos. And thanks
I'm a biker. I'm male, and 5'1" tall with a 25" inside leg. I started riding in 1986, and have owned a fair few motorcycles in that time. I can't tell you how irritating it is, wanting to own and ride certain bikes but not being able to because of the seat height (and a few grand!). It's a problem I've had to deal with all my biking life. My last bike was an XJ6 Diversion (FZ6 in the US) with a cut-down seat. But I've owned and ridden GT550's GS550's and GSX750's. The largest bike I ever rode was a Z1000 (2018), which I rode without modification, in a normal way. But it was nerve wracking. Because when I came to a stop, like always I was one-cheek-on-and-one-cheek-off the saddle, my leg was fully extended and I was at the fullest reach of my tippy toes, just to reach the ground with ONE toe. And that's not a huge (physically) bike. So it's so refreshing to hear someone talk about the seat height right off the bat in a video. I'm always commenting on all sorts of bike videos trying to get people to recognise that not every rider is 5'10" and above!!! And that there are LOTS of women, like yourself who would like to ride bigger bikes, but are put off by overly high seat heights. Some day someone will take notice of us short arses!
Good review and very informative. Me personally I'm for the HD (older rides like vintage). But as for the weight I had to move a Ninja and I thought of just picking up. The one foot lean especially on an incline. Keep up the good work and be safe
My thoughts on the smaller displacements are how they handle on highway speeds and if you ride with others with larger displacement bikes, I had 450 to start and today I would not suggest it on the highway at 70 mph felt like front wheel was lifting off the ground, also my friends all road 600 and above and I got left behind a lot, not due to me not trying lol. Have fun and be safe.
I watch your videos with my 3-year-old son and he loves them too. I told him your name and now he keeps calling you noodle. He keeps asking “why is noodle has a strawberry 🍓 “ (under your Ram mount in this video.) 😹
Love to see sub 500cc quality new bikes. I don't see this as a Lerner bike as they tend to be 50~125cc in the UK due to learner restrictions and insurance cost. I wish UK had free road tax for sub 350cc because they cost more to tax than a large tesla currently with a fraction of the space and materials used.
Great video Doodle. Gotta say the MT03 is a nice looking bike. Happy to hear your thoughts on it. The MT03, R3 and Ninja 400 are the top 3 bikes my gf is looking at getting so far.
@@Frank_Torre definitely completely agree. But yea have her sit on it jus to see. The seat is a bit narrower on the z400 as well so if she's shorter that might make her feel more comfortable. I jus bought one myself and it's part of the reason I didn't wind up getting the MT03. Good luck to her! :)
@@eriejpayne Yeah gonna have her sit on as many bike options as possible. She's 5'6" so height isn't really a issue. As she knows it's better to have one leg down instead of trying two feet flat footed. Thanks for the tip about the Z400. Honestly didn't think of it.

Too easy to get into illegal speeds and lose-your-license territory even with a 600.
It's my second year on mt-03 and I already scrap pegs on motogymkhana sessions. Very cool bike for fast learning and growth.
Sweet!
Great review! Your practical insights are super welcome to the community!
great Vid as always Doodle.. Knee's in Da Breeeezzeee..... cheers
I also have the 2020 Mt03 in this color ... I've put 6350 miles on it in under 2 years ... Great bike...
I bought 2021 2 days ago my first bike 😍😍😍😍
Sweet looking bike! Thanks for the review.
I liked future Doodle 🤣 This was a good review. I'm a soon to be new rider and thinking about getting one of these. I have been enjoying your videos.
Looks like a fun little bike that would make a great commuter .
Anyways. Just my 2c
The ktm can't touch the yamaha for reliability in the long run.

I like your review on the mto3.my favorites are the colors and the dash. I wish kawasaki would have a upgrade dash.
My love of KTM’s is tempered by my aversion to the niggling issues with them I only want to ride not fix it. These are a blast
More good info ,awesome Erica!
I have the z650 and bought it just for the seat being so narrow. Funny somebody else found that as convenient as I do.
I plan on taking the z4 to the track eventually as well but glad ur enjoying ur bike!
an excellent beginner bike and commuter a nice part of the world mrs doodle ive noticed ure trying to get mr doodle on screen looooooool
Good Morning Doodle, Excellent Review
Beautiful spot to stop
Excellent video! Great points! I noticed that there seems to be a return to lower cc bikes. I am not sure why? But, I just purchased a single cylinder bike and it went against what I typically ride but wanted a around the town bike that could do freeway rides as well. My Road King too much work to just get out of the garage and just chill. Also, these bikes are very nice. I hope to see more of your videos. And thanks
Great review. Noticed you also have a fantastic posture.
🤪
7:00 I think those side panels are for taking in air.
Great looking bike. Looks like a good starter bike.
I’m 5’4. So this is right up my alley.
I had a 48 but looking for something different!
is it possible to include in your motorcycle reviews how bright those headlights could be? I got curious about it.
Uh... very bright?
@@DoodleOnAMotorcycle can confirm. you see like everything
I was thinking if you could show its brightness in a dark place. That's all. If that couldn't be done, no worries.
Beautiful bike...especially the red wheels 👍🏽
Future doodle got me with that head shake man
My thoughts on the smaller displacements are how they handle on highway speeds and if you ride with others with larger displacement bikes, I had 450 to start and today I would not suggest it on the highway at 70 mph felt like front wheel was lifting off the ground, also my friends all road 600 and above and I got left behind a lot, not due to me not trying lol. Have fun and be safe.
Big cc bikes are overrated, I have ridden 200cc on a 1500mile trip and no complaints
@@realggo I imagine depends on the bike, I had 85 Suzuki GS450L and was terrible over 65
70mph is nothing to this bike. i do that on regular countryside roads. 100mph is still pretty relaxed highway speed for this bike.
@@nateriver5114 that skinny front tire on my bike was big issue, my radian 100 was no issue lol
YES FINALLY! and on top of reliability, ease of learning, and comfort, the MT-03 can still hit go-to-jail speeds easily (ask me how I know)
;)
112mph it does, right? at least for me.
@@nateriver5114 Same! Tho I did add a +1 to the front sprocket recently I just need to confirm the new top speed but mine goes past 112 now
😂😂😂
Very good review. Thank you
I am waiting for the MT09! Yamahas first triple after many four cilinder bikes.
Love my MT07 so I would imagine the mt03 is similar and just as fun!
I watch your videos with my 3-year-old son and he loves them too. I told him your name and now he keeps calling you noodle. He keeps asking “why is noodle has a strawberry 🍓 “ (under your Ram mount in this video.) 😹
😂 omg that is amazing
You can tell him the strawberry is a tiny little wallet owned by the owner of this MT03
@@DoodleOnAMotorcycle Will do, lol. Thanks! Hope your day's the best.
That’s a nice looking motorbike indeed.
I just got the 2021 mt 03 storm fluo a week ago, and its my first motorcycle.
Sweet!! 😃
Love this video! I'd like to see you review a Harley / cruiser type bike sometime.
I love the future Doodle. She is always right 👍
maybe... waiting for a Future Future Doodle to appear....
😂😂 be careful what you wish for
Got the same bike and man this bike is awesome no doubts im only 5'7 and it suits me well 👌💪❤️🇵🇭
Love to see sub 500cc quality new bikes. I don't see this as a Lerner bike as they tend to be 50~125cc in the UK due to learner restrictions and insurance cost. I wish UK had free road tax for sub 350cc because they cost more to tax than a large tesla currently with a fraction of the space and materials used.
thank you so much for making this
Great review and Future Doodle 😂😂😂
Thank you for another great video, 👌I have an MT-07, exiting to hear what you think about that one, its my first bike and havent tried anything else.
Great review & I have to say Future Doodle is awesome :)
The R3 was my first bike, I wish I never traded it! Betcha that thing rips in the mountains! :)
Hey I didn’t know that!! 😃
Great video Doodle. Gotta say the MT03 is a nice looking bike. Happy to hear your thoughts on it. The MT03, R3 and Ninja 400 are the top 3 bikes my gf is looking at getting so far.
I'd take a look at the z400 as well. Basically an Ninja 400 but naked lol.
@@eriejpayne Gonna have to take a look at it. Really comes down to which she feels good on. As she's only ever been a passenger.
@@Frank_Torre oh ok lucky her lol n yea she'll be fine then anyway. N no problem!
I bought an R3 about 3 weeks ago as a brand new rider. I've put 1000 miles on it and I'm ready for a 600 😂
Looking at this and the grom ans z500 for my first bike oly do city commute nothing over 50mph
