I dont want a bike for speed. I just want a bike.
Smart man.
I’ve had an R1 and now own an R6. I honestly enjoy my gf’s Ninja 250 the most!
Well i am a opposite
Honestly the fast bikes are for people who love the adrenaline and the danger. I had a ninja 300 and now have a CBR 600... the 600 isn't any more fun than the 300, just scarier.
Ok…?
Tomorrow I will get my z650 (waited for weeks after buying it because of dealership not receiving registration) but i started on a rented 2018 mt03(not actual first time riding, but that's a long story) and i was pissed because ai thought I had to start on a crappy bike (not because of the bike but because it was old, had some accidents because it was used by dozens of people) and after the first few miles I loved that thing, still keeping it and I'm gonna take it back to the dealer tomorrow morning before taking my new bike (Wich actually goes only a little faster than the mt03 because in Europe we have a limit for hp with the A2 license so it went from 68 to 47hp)
37 MPH = 60 KMH, that's why they said it takes 3 seconds to get to that speed, and 60 km/h is speed limit in many cities world wide(including cities in Japan where Yamaha is based), and most of the countries are using km/h. So there you go. :D
Still a dumb thing to advertise the bike with. And the fact it takes 3 seconds to get to NEARLY 40 lets me know you have to shift. So I’ll pass on this little guy
@@KineticTaco because you have to shift?
@@KineticTaco nearly 40 is because your country is the only one that still uses this ancient form of units.
Exactly Americans believe that the world revolves around them. They don't understand that other countries exists and manufacturers also cater for them. Most other countries use kmh and spell words like colour with a "u"

@@yeehawyamaha782 haha yep, sounds about right. How are you liking your R3? Solid bike, and can break 100 no problem sooooo no real *need* to go higher cc lol
As an R3 owner and new rider, I can vouch for this being a great bike to learn on. It's incredibly easy to shift. I do not recommend the R6 throttle tube "upgrade" for new riders. We bought used and it had the R6 tube and it's way too much to learn on - almost no low-end throttle control. Put (or keep) a stock tube on it and it's great. It's also very comfortable for me at 5' 9", though I'll probably move to a slightly larger cruiser at my age and weight. It's perfect for my shorter son. I took it out for three hours or so one afternoon and didn't have any discomfort in the seat.

I started on a ninja 250 and recently upgraded to a CBR600 , I recommend that all new riders start on something smaller . I was a little bit intimidated when I hopped on the 250 for the first time considering I didn’t know how to ride but then got comfortable, now that I ride a 600 I’m super happy I started out on something slow lol couldn’t imagine hopping on a 600 as my first bike
Same, I got a ninja 400 on my 18th birthday and when I took it off the parking lot all it took was to ease off the clutch to scare tf outta me. I only used to do motor cross so Ik used to slow bikes but an ease offa that clutch was all it took for me to see what that bike was capable of. I downsized to the R3 because I don't do track days. A new pipe that has a better sound, with 150/60 rear tire, dropped a tooth on the rear sprocket to bring the speedo back to factory. Now add soft bags, better windshield, longer shift lever, better foot pegs, adjustable levers, and now you have a sweet sport touring bike. After 5 hours I noticed the comfortable seat wasn't so I bought a Saddlemen seat (made for the R3) with denser foam and some gel next to the metal (not plastic) seat frame. I can ride comfortably through the mountains and long 7-10 hour trips without being worn out. This bike is great for more than sport, and being a rider with 28" inseam it allows me to put my feet on the ground.
Do you still have the r3? Just took my MSF course and looking to get one

Best tips you can follow are never get complacent with watching for hazards, don't ride for more than 1 hour continously without 15+min of breaks, don't ride in stop and go rush hour traffic for your first year, take the time to teach yourself about how to properly control the bike at slow speeds so that you can control it better at fast speeds, and always, always, always ride within your skill level.
Josh Nabours Ok, thank you so much for the tips.
I’ve been watching your videos for a while. Your launches for your 0-60 runs have improved a lot over time.
100% agree.
1) Passing supersports with my n300/400 is a wonderful feeling. In the canyon & track. I've only done one track day at buttonwillow on my old n300 and passed every bike in C group (some liter+ bikes too) and pushed to B during lunch break. In B group, the little Ninja had a hard time keeping up, but caught up in the corners (depends on track layout).
2) I've had friends who started or jumped to a SS too quick and wrecked.
3) if I had a SS, I'd prob get a ticket here and there.. + gas & insurance cost almost double
4:00. This is true about firearms too. When I first started buying guns, I wanted everything semi-automatic and high capacity. And now after 20 years of collecting. I can appreciate a low capacity firearm. The workmanship and quality of machining, is what I get off on now.
True about guns with you, not everyone. High cap don’t mean shit if you can’t aim

I’m a rider with 21 years of street experience. I am interested in getting one as a light sport bike for fun. I don’t think this is only a beginner bike. Sure I’d like an R6, but the pricing is pretty steep.
I owned a 1998 R1 and loved it.....almost to death ..LITERALLY lol
I have since wanted to get a bike and figured R6 because that would be HALF my R1....but these suckas want like 12,000 for a new R6.....so I am now considering a 2020 R3 for 5,000 and a 2020 Yamaha EX for 7,000 hahaha

Been riding all the big bikes since the mid 80's. Being 50 now, makes you think in a different way. Used to be speed is KING!!!! Now its I like a far lower speed with great handling. Being able to ring out a powerband and shift without being above the speed limit is really cool!!! RPM's are GOLD!!!!!! But, the R3 is a great bike.

@@wirerage1074 Eh, it gets old like anything else, as do the high costs... then you miss the good old days of whipping around on a small lightweight bike that costs hardly anything.
I've seen it many times, displacement doesn't always win. Especially when the corners are tight.
It's always fun to drive a slow bike fast.
My first bike was a 88 ninja 750. Figured since it was old and me being tall it would be ok. She was fast!!! If I didnt take a riders safety course I would have ate the asphalt a few times. Truth after look back on it I would not recommend anyone start on something like that. If you are tall a 500cc and up. My second bike was a gx500 and I had a blast on it. Slow yes but fun
Does it matter? U shouldn't be riding hard on public roads anyhow.
Just Lean You’re right but riding fast now and then doesn’t necessarily mean dragging your knee through every corner and riding as if you were on a track. It can just mean banging through every gear while getting on the highway and really trashing your bike on occasion, which is a lot easier to do on a 300 because on most super-sports you will be at over 100mph before you even have time to check your speedometer.
Its fun to ride a fast bike fast.
Maybe people with a 10k plus bike price don't wanna test their limits by leaning in to the max and risk crashing it,like literally there's no point to do that
I've got one of them, my 1st bike. Really great to commute and to improve your skills on twisty roads.
If you had to reflect, would you rather have gotten an R6 as a first bike? And what mods have you made?
@@ironicdude7510 It really depends of how mature you are, I started riding at 19 and wouldn't have been responsible enough to ride a higher cc bike but your mileage may vary, there is no shame in getting a smaller bike, I truly believe it makes you a better rider.
As for mods, in order of priority :
1. Fender eliminator (stock one is really ugly)
2. LED blinkers (stock halogen ones are huge)
3. Braided brake lines (improves the braking feel)
4. Brake/clutch levers (high quality ones, not ali aliexpress/wish/etc...)
5. An exhaust (slip on is more than enough imho but if you want to splurge, why not a full system with dyno)
Ironic Dude bought an r3 as a bike to return to riding. Its my 5th bike, but my first proper sport style motorcycle. After 1 whole season, I still love it. Can see the virtue of a higher cc bike for long highway trips. But it can handle short 2hr trips no issue. Hell it could go longer, just don’t feel like pushing my comfort. An r6 is way overkill for a first bike. You’ll be so focused on trying to stay alive you wont even get to enjoy the art of improving your craft as a rider. Should you choose to get a second bike down the line great. The r3 will still be a favourite commuter. An absolute blast.
Ironic Dude I started on an R6 but back than they didn’t have these nice low CC sport bikes 😂
did you go to a professional course to learn or you just winged it on your bike?
Sean, you always make perfect sense. The boy on the 300 that keeps up with the 600 is learning and working hard. God bless brother.
The boy on a 600 that isn't absolutely dominating a 300 sucks at riding.
I’ve just started riding motorcycles this year. Been on dirt bikes, atvs most my life. Grew up around motors and what not. I can tell you as a new rider I didn’t think my r3 would scare me the first time. It definitely did tho. Obviously, very quickly, you get more comfortable riding and it becomes tame and you want more, but in town it’s awesome, highway …it keeps up. It’s a good learner bike, for anyone thinking about it!
It’s pretty cool that you started off reading a scripture before riding. I plan to purchase my first bike soon and was previously looking at the GSXR 600 but now plan to buy the Yamaha R3. This was a great video!
Remember the new Gixxers have A, B, and C power modes
I'm 50 years old and had a bike for most of my life. Sport to cruiser up until about 4 years ago. I want this R3 and who cares what people say. Mid life crisis it is i guess. I need that free feeling again without killing myself with a GSXR or something insane. Thanks for the video!

I have 80k on mine.
No one believes me, but that's what I did too. Its funny everyone says you're gonna want more, you're gonna wanna GSXR 650 in a month. Eh, but I'm comfortable.
Mind you I come from motocross racing at 15, and trail rides and track rides since 9 years old.
I know what power is like, and what it feels like going down while fatigued or riding beyond your level. I just wanna chill and ride, not be in race mode every time I get on.
Nice man, one question, how comfy is ot for medium and long trips?
Ya I forsure would get in serious trouble or hurt on a ss. I know myself.
Me too!! So have my 900 but love my R3 in a whole different way.
Man, great analysis. Logical and practical.
I bought my R3 in 2016. I thought I was going to sell it or trade it after a couple years.
80k miles later.... I love it. I'm almost 6'2 and 240lb. It handles me fine. I commute on it every day. 2 tires for the price of 1 600 tire is great when you commute. So light and nimble. Does everything I would want it to in the twisties.
I've turned mine into a cafe racer. You wouldn't even recognize it.
How’s it handle constant highway speeds?
I just bought an R3 and yeah it’s slower and smaller then my R6 but check , it it was dirt cheap 1100 bucks and it’s such a chill bike to have riding around town for errands. It’s so light and not exhausting, gas is cheap and so is maintenance. When I wanna go fast or go out with my boys I have my other bike. Plus I save all my life on my bigger bike using my R3. Just all around a fun bike to also have. I think getting into my 40s and being a speed monster in my 20s I’ve been there done that and survived some how so now it time to really enjoy the small things lol
Hey man! Just FYI I do a 104km commute daily to my office on a Honda CB Hornet 160r and I beat most cars in timing and economy on the highway. So yes of course the R3 is humongous for a man.
Just bought a 2024 r3 with 6 miles on it, new rider just passed my BRC. Can’t wait to get on it in the next couple days! 0-60 in 5 seconds is plenty!
Bikes like this and the R125 are way more fun imo, because they are less frightening. As the saying goes; "It is better to ride a slower bike fast, than a faster bike slowly"
Nah man i agree that it's best to ride the speed limit but it's nice to know you have tons of power to unleash at any moment, I ride a 96 Sportster with a 1200 bored to 1340 from a Buell xb12, cams, higher comp pistons and 2 into 1 drag pipe, putting down 120 or so HP, you can drive it like a Harley, slow, but the moment you move to throttle at all you have to hold on tight
It’s only a beginner bike if you’re a beginner rider. I just picked up the GG Retrofitz ‘Spirit of ‘72’ R3 last month and put 5k miles on it since. It outclasses my old CB750K6 and CB550F1. In the twisties I pass my friends on literbikes and 600’s. Anyone can go fast in a straight line!
Just rode one of these for the first time the other day. Buddy picked up a 17 model as his first bike. Its definetly the lightest streetbike I've ever ridden, have had 15 or so over the years some cruiser and some sport. All with much more power too but was kind of refreshing riding a lighter bike with less power. Still plenty peppy especially for backroads, wouldn't want to cruise highway a lot on it tho. Overall a nice looking and riding bike.
Rides great on the highway and people think it's a faster bike and rarely challenge you.
Really great subject to discuss !! Thank you
I’m a mature returning rider and I’m interested in one of these “entry” level bikes
I'm exactly that. A mature returning rider who had an 1100 previously and I bought an R3. I LOVE IT!!! However the factory mirrors are crap. You need to get the extenders or you just look at your shoulders.
I own a 2018 R3 and I love it! My buddies ride a gsxr1000 and a zx10r and while they can take off like rockets, I'm in the back hitting corners harder and with less brake than they are. Anyone interested in a great bike to learn on or just to have a great fun toy for the weekend I would always recommend an R3
I was going to rest in today, but after this video, I've decided to go for a cruise on my R3 I am blessed with.
I've went the same way with cars. I grew up with 550hp trans ams, corvettes, gtos and a challenger with 100 to 150 shot of nitrous fun thrown in every now and then. Sold em all when used prices went so high and now I just drive around a manual tj wrangler and a miata. Driving a slow car fast is so much more fun than a fast car slow on the street. I wish I realized this years ago.
People who say that you'll get bored on smaller bikes make me laugh. You get bored on any bike. I've owned 4 bikes now and I cant think of one that made me happy 24/7.
0 - 37mph (60kmh) in 3 seconds is the Traffic Light Getaway.
Most people live in cities, that's around the top speed, and you're up to it quickly, and you already filtered up to the front of the lights.
This bike looks great for European tight twisty roads and cities. I've only been in a few American states and I've seen that your roads are wider and straighter with many lanes.
I love that you read the correct translation of timidity (or cowardice) instead of the common mistranslation of 'fear'.
God bless you bro 🙏 I’m planning to buy R3 this year R3 2019 version can’t wait 😊

I am seriously considering an R3.
All I've ever had is 250's (CB250RS, GSX250ES, GSX-R250), so even an R3 would be quite a step-up. I have tried much bigger bikes though (ZX9R, R1, BMW K1200RS, RSV1000 Mille, Buell M2 Cyclone...).
And a bike doesn't need to be big to give you a lot of fun. The smallest bike I've ever driven was a '99 Aprilia RS125R, but I was having an absolute blast riding it.

Here in my country the Ninja 400 costs about 2000$ dollars more then the R3. I didnt Feel the bit power advantage of the 400 made sense of the price. I felt more comfortable and more upright on the r3. Aswell As I prefered the overall looks of the r3. What I would do is go to your local dealer and ask that you are confused between which one and look what they have to offer in price and accessories of each.
@@Chofiko ah I see. Here in cali r3 and the 400 are the same price.
@@KERBROES I was deciding between the R3 and 400. Decided on the R3 with no abs because it had less rider aides and felt I would learn more and become a better rider. Also liked the looks more. I bought a brand new left over blue 2015 R3 in 2018 for a good price. I hope it helps you decide.
I love your channel enjoy how you present each style of motorcycles. That would be a good series what it the better beginner sport bike. Thanks for the great content. I’m 44 yrs old looking to get my first bike.
If you do lots of highway driving and live in a country like the US, then go bigger. If most of your riding is in the city or in a country with slower roads and higher density, a smaller capacity bike is MORE useful. When will people understand that all motorcycles have their purpose for different environments?
Idk man, 600 RR’s have always got me in trouble. I do a lot of highway riding but I definitely don’t want to be limited to 90 mph
I have an on-off 250cc Yamaha. This bike will do the work or I don't feel any difference? Thanks.
Thanks for sharing bro, got my first service done yesterday on my R3. Bike is amazing well balanced & seats too are very good, but brakes could have been lil better. I have named her Silent Assassin. 😂
That's the exact name I have given tomy noiseless farts 😂😂
I think the 2 seconds question is to get a city speed in perspective no car or truck can follow you Police will call it you can clear it is not illegal
They should of used a 399cc turbo or supercharged engine just to silence the haters. Made it the fastest 300 class bike in the world. Yea it would be far more expensive but it would be a blast!
I remember keeping up and passing Suzuki GSXr 1000 with my Yamaha FZ750 1985,history always repeats itself I think 😌how’s this bike for a Old timer 8 bike owner for retirement ?
How are the vibrations on this? I used to own a Duke 390 but for longer rides the vibrations would eventually numb my arms.
I started 12 years ago on a Suzuki GS 500 which I sold 3 months later cause I was so bored. Then I got a ZX-6R and had the best fun on a motorcycle in my life. Morality : start with a slow bike until you get bored
Bored cause all u do is ride in a straight line.
Under 3000? Where I buy
I'm obsessed with ur Channel
I can’t find a used one in or around Michigan for under the retail price it’s astonishing. I’m about to settle for a used GSX250r at this point.
So what about the tanks? Plastic or metal? What’s pros and cons?
I weigh 120, and have to absolutely ring this things neck to have fun, but have fun I do, the high revving characteristic of the engine saves it.
Uh, I am like 145, and it ain't no issue...
I’ve got a 2019 R3 1st bike I like it but honestly I wish I spent the stupid money for a R6 already bored of it good bike for throwing it around town and corners but come spring I will have a R6
Go watch deecaliboy, you'll realize hopefully where the R3 and yourself will shine as you put in the work
5:18 HISTORY Honda RVF 400 - beautiful. Beautiful. 140mph. 60bhp V4. 18,000 RPM Redline.
In the 1980s-1990s the 250 and 400cc category was the pinnacle of motorcycle engineering. We had baby fire blades the Honda CBR250RR the Honda CBR 400RR, the Kawasaki ZXR 400 RR. These bikes made 60 bhp back in 1992.
Kawasaki ZXR 400 - beautiful.
140mph
60bhp inline 4
18,000 RPM Redline.
The bikes they offer us today are not as good engine wise to what we had 30 years ago.
Please have a look at the Japan Honda CBR 400 with its high performance engine. It's possible that it might get shipped to the rest of the world this year.
30 years ago we had the 250cc two-stroke and 400cc 4-stroke race series. Japan also had some licence restrictions that happened at 400 cc's which meant that the Japanese people could spend a lot of money on their 400cc bikes. So we had amazing options at 400cc.
Hopefully if this 300 to 400cc market grows we might see some of those old engines and bikes brought back to life and that technology from the 80s and 90s given to us in the 2020s. Update the brake chassis and suspension and I bet we'd have some amazing amazing bikes.
Can you imagine riding a 400cc bike with an 18,000 RPM rev limit? I've done it and it's a lot of fun.
Honda had the beautiful RVF 400. Just Google the images.
Good video. The Yamaha R3 is a fabulous motorbike. I've had 600s, 1,000s and reading the final Yamaha MT01 1700cc. But I've also had a real blast on a Yamaha 250 Virago cruiser on Spanish mountain roads. Google Sa Colabra, Mallorca to see you just how fabulous these roads are.
Highly recommended, lot better than the old srx 250 ,and almost as light!, Give you more joy than a Zx11,riding a bike fast going straight , everyone can do it,but what happened when the road is curvy?
Talking about the slower and faster motorcycle I have a similar story growing up learning how to ride dirt bikes for wheelers and then motorcycles it’s very true it’s not what you’re riding but where are you going ..........and sometimes who’s riding it
The kawi zx4r is probably the best bike to start on. Coming to the US for 23 models
Paying triple what this costs. No thanks.
Hi, nice ride, wondering how a 6.2 feet person would fit on this bike, looking to be my next bike but have that concern, would be comfortable, would you recommend it? Regards.
Im 45 years old and rode 3 wheelers and 4 wheelers my whole life. Im about to buy a bike and cant see myself starting on anything other than a 1000. I know how to drive around without 100% throttle all them time. Im not understanding why everyone says start small, are they talking about people who've never rode anything in their lives? I mean starting on a 600 might be ok but people like me whove been on race quads for years would want to know more was always there. It doesnt mean you have to drive crazy...
Pretty sure most people have little to no respect for the machine they ride which is why it's better for them to start small. You should be fine if you understand what you're getting on and riding.
Do you need to do counter steer on this too ? I’m planning on getting one
I had a CBR 250R hands down the most fun bike I ever owned, that being said this bike might be the next one
Is This Better Than A Ninja Ex300 or a BMW g310r ? I can ride the ninja easy and want to buy a easy but fast first bike
Would you say this is or the vulcan 650 is a better starter bike?
I recognized those Pa roads as soon as you road out!! Lol! Looking at the R3 for my first bike!
Its nice and quiet, very smooth sounding
My cb300f was a perfect beginner bike. Its a single cylinder 6 speed fuel injected 296cc. I wished it was faster after a week or two. I want a z400 or ninja 400 next, wondering someone's opinion if im wasting my time getting a 399cc twin cylinder sportbike. And whats the difference between the single and twin if they both have the same cc
This engine is completely different than the cb300f. What's the horsepower on that? That's the main thing to focus on.
Good review 👍
