Actually, you CAN see the front sprite for both Omanyte and Kabuto in the same playthrough. In the northwest corner of the zoo in Fuchsia City, checking the sign lets you see the front sprite of the first form fossil you didn't pick in Mt. Moon. So by picking the Dome Fossil, you'd get a sneak peek at Omanyte in Fuchsia, and vice versa. Which I guess is nice for letting you know 'Yeah, you picked that fossil, but look at what you could've gotten if you picked the other!', or something. Nothing like giving a kid buyer's remorse hours after they made the decision!
@@bradlauk1419 They had skeletons of Aerodactyl and Kabutops (which apparently has a skeleton and not just a fossilized shell but not important here), but unlike the zoo, it didn't add a seen entry to your Pokedex for it.

Really nice video. Please keep up the good work.

Your overlay and layout game is really next level, wow! The dynamic stats display, the subtle badge image for boost indicator, the eye expressions on your pokemon, the team display cut-ins, the expected power per matchup on moves.... great design. The only things I can think of that might improve it would be having something like enemy stats on the top right and maybe include the damage ranges/expected hit count for them. (Move movepool down and maybe pare it down to useful things after the introduction?) Interesting run, too; didn't expect Omanyte to do so well.
Omanyte & specifically Omastar have always been some of my all time favorite Pokémon! Since I was a kid, wayyy before the whole “lord helix” meme. I remember back in the day, before the “lord helix” thing, everyone always liked Aerodactyl & Kabutops more because they looked cooler
I never liked the fossils at all when I was a kid, my kid brain saw that when you got them they were only level 30, and didn't feel like training them up being that I was already so close to the end of the game.
Loved the video Scott, one think that might save time in the early game is to grab the watergun tm in the cave. Its possible to tech this to pokemon even if they already have the move on there list as long as they stil have an empty move slot, meaning you will have 2 options for watergun then you can replace it with the dody slam tm from the ss ann - doubling your PP for the move! try it out some time :)

Freeze is the hardest status condition to get off, even in modern games. If you run through any of them with electric types, you will get loads of paralysis, ghosts loads of sleep statuses, poison types and you will poison lots of times, fire types also inflict burns often. Yet if you run ice types and use ice type moves you will be lucky to get the freeze status 5 times for an entire run. Freeze rates need to be increased, it's the biggest reason why ice types get looked over. Cool moves, cool designs, but the benefits are more of a negative. I always picked the Helix Fossil as a kid because I liked how Omanyte looked more than Kabuto and I never used either anyway. XP It's kind of a shame that you have to get so far into the game to officially add one to your team.
It was difficult because the original Universal Pokemon Randomizer only supports through Generation V (3DS emulation being in its infancy at the time the project ceased development, IIRC). Now a fork of the original UPR exists, which does support Gens VI and VII.
I'm playing through yellow and picked the helix fossil by accident when I wanted the dome... but this video has now motivated me to use that omanyte as my water type, right after I catch a different water type to surf to Cinnabar :
Before watching: Really good defense and good special for a not-fully evolved pokemon. You can dish out and take some damage too, which means you can use „Rest“ quite effectively in the end game. And even though the Rock type doesn‘t seem to help much, it will protect you well against the normal moves many pokemon have for coverage. Water STAB from the get-go and access to Ice moves. Also, Bodyslam is available too. A lot of stuff that will make this easy through most of the run. However, your attack stat is really bad, meaning Bodyslam can only do so much for you against Water opponents (like Lorelei). My guess is: this will be an easy run for 95% of the game, and then you‘ll get really badly walled at some key points. Probably an upper-mid-tier pokemon in the end. Worse than most really good pokemon, but better than some of the worst fully evolved pokemon like Golbat. After watching: Ok, that went about as well as I thought. It‘s clearly really good, but it also needs some planning ahead for some of the trickier fights. And in the tier approximatelly where I expected it.
Spoiler time, everything below will be spoilers! Oh wow, didn't expect that. I was lowkey spot on apparently, I let myself get scared by scott talking about the grasses and how it took over fourty minutes to beat misty last time but nah. Huge improvements in planning and skill, gonna watch the optimizing portion now :D I had thought about guessing a higher time but I couldn't really get myself too. Saw that maybe a flat 1 hour would be in it, didn't dare either. 1 h 10 it was then
I grew up with a twin sister so getting all the Pokémon was always easy :) also my dad was a hardcore speed runner to get us Pokémon too 🤣 I was a dome fossil supporter, while she was a Helix fossil supporter 😱😱 Clearly, dome fossil is where it’s at! :)
Nice editing, it makes it feel like modt off the trainers just want to revel in the majesty that is Lord Helix. Bringing him offerings off money and exp. The Rest off the battles are just the heathens send by doom himself too impead your righteous journy😉
Hey i really like your videos and especially the amount of time you take for your layout. On a side note: Often you display the charts for lvl groups and in your final result you can see the difference. Could you for instance create a video with the different regions of the game, and each trainer showing how much exp they are worth. Then going through the game you can visualize what lvl a given growth rate would be and maybe justify why a certain growth rate needs more trainers in a certain area. So this video would not feature an actual pokemon but prototypes with different growth rates. This prototypical analyses could also help you to better rate a pokemon in the end. If the prototype required lvl 58 and 2 pokemon which reside in the same group took lvl 60 and 65, it is more obvious which one is worse just from lvl perspective alone. Anyway im looking forward to your next video!
You can actually do this with RBY XP router. Just input one Pokémon of each growth rate and look at their final level. I should make a video about this, I’ve got an idea for it.
Sorry Scott, I gotta go with my boy Lord Helix! Twitch Plays Pokemon I was in the chat arguing with you i'm sure haha! Aside from that Omanyte was actually a bit of a beast through Yellow it seems. Very impressed with it! Being a wet rock hard pokemon is like Brocks worst nightmare haha.
I didn’t like omanyte as a kid but the little guy has grown on me it’s so damn cute it’s… legs?… tentacles?…. They look like whiskers to me. I’d still always choose the dome fossil though because it is the right choice
So in my pokemon head cannon the reason the fossils don't learn rock moves is that they weren't rock types originally, they got the rock type once they were revived and don't natrually know rock moves because they would have been either pure water or flying types in there original era they were in.
seeing as he did a vs. between it and Kabuto it's no surprise he was able to optimize the first time around. not a complaint at all just something I find interesting that he has been able to get even better results over all. still escargot is low rung for me. for me it's in the same class as Abra. ;)
6:59 I remember telling you about the difference between power and base power a while back (such a long time ago that I had a different name and picture!) and I was really happy you've been correcting it ever since. This on the screen is _damage_, as it says on the left, while power is usually reffered to as base power, stab & type effectiveness, as you do on the overlay correctly. Damage itself includes offensive and defensive stats and all the randomness that comes with it. If you could present damage instead of power, that would be dope, although the difference would mostly come to physical and special moves, since most pokemon would scale power to a lower number and not change all that much while grabbing opponent's pokemon's stats for every fight is a bit of a chore. I think this way it's pretty elegant as it is.
It isn’t a chore, it’s actually quite easy. I don’t want to present it this way because I feel it removes some of the skill and interest. I do intend to display exact damage ranges for each move for second playthroughs though and display it this way for first playthroughs.

After watching:
Ok, that went about as well as I thought.
It‘s clearly really good, but it also needs some planning ahead for some of the trickier fights.
And in the tier approximatelly where I expected it.
I love seeing pokemon solo a game that they aren't even in. :)
Your lesson from Lance is Dragonite's speed. My thought was if the game gives you a free time to badge boost glitch, take it.
Well, yeah. That too... (Also, don't get over confident!)
Spoiler time, everything below will be spoilers!
Oh wow, didn't expect that. I was lowkey spot on apparently, I let myself get scared by scott talking about the grasses and how it took over fourty minutes to beat misty last time but nah.
Huge improvements in planning and skill, gonna watch the optimizing portion now :D
I had thought about guessing a higher time but I couldn't really get myself too.
Saw that maybe a flat 1 hour would be in it, didn't dare either. 1 h 10 it was then
Awesome job as always Scott!
Thanks again! (Thanks for signing up to be a member too!)
I grew up with a twin sister so getting all the Pokémon was always easy :) also my dad was a hardcore speed runner to get us Pokémon too 🤣
I was a dome fossil supporter, while she was a Helix fossil supporter 😱😱
Clearly, dome fossil is where it’s at! :)
Tomorrow Kabuto gets its chance!
@@ScottsThoughtsPokemon yes! I hope best boi does amazing! ♥️
Omanyte has real “get off my lawn” vibes going on in the video art lol
He’ll smack you if you get on his grass! (Mostly because he’s worried that it will do 4x damage to you.)
Man I love the positive vibes you send, keep it up :D
Sorry Scott, I gotta go with my boy Lord Helix! Twitch Plays Pokemon I was in the chat arguing with you i'm sure haha!
Aside from that Omanyte was actually a bit of a beast through Yellow it seems. Very impressed with it! Being a wet rock hard pokemon is like Brocks worst nightmare haha.
Omanyte really is a beast!
The angry Omanyte is so cute.
Hey Scott give your artist some regards, her sprites and models look so good :)
11:25 The Wrapping Lass (Wrapping Jr. Trainer♀) has a name in the Gen 1 remakes; it's Alicia.
I'm looking forward to Kabuto's run now :^)
Tomorrow
I didn’t like omanyte as a kid but the little guy has grown on me it’s so damn cute it’s… legs?… tentacles?…. They look like whiskers to me. I’d still always choose the dome fossil though because it is the right choice
While I don't agree with the Dome Fossil (Team Helix Fossil all the way), I would like to see an individual Kabuto run though.
Kabuto tomorrow.
@@ScottsThoughtsPokemon I shall keep an eye out for video.🙂
So in my pokemon head cannon the reason the fossils don't learn rock moves is that they weren't rock types originally, they got the rock type once they were revived and don't natrually know rock moves because they would have been either pure water or flying types in there original era they were in.
More cute artwork Yay! And omanyte is cute
Hey Scott, another great video!!! Keep it up!!!
I mean, a level 50 psywave can do up to 75 damage. That's pretty dangerous
omanyte looks like an angry Ned Flanders in the title image
seeing as he did a vs. between it and Kabuto it's no surprise he was able to optimize the first time around.
not a complaint at all just something I find interesting that he has been able to get even better results over all.
still escargot is low rung for me.
for me it's in the same class as Abra.
