    2. No items in battle*
    3. No glitches or exploits*

-- Almost every Pokemon can learn Double-Team through TM
-- The TM can be purchased in Celadon
-- Using it would centralize the meta

-- It triggers the badge boost
-- Banning the TM allows Pokemon who learn it through level up to use it
-- I believe evasion is part of Pokemon and shouldn't be banned entirely
-- I don't want the videos to all be double-team spam though, that's not fun or entertaining
-- Only two Pokemon learn Double-Team through level up: Pikachu & Scyther

Abra has no way of acquiring confusion at this level. It can't get confusion as an egg move.
But, it should learn rest by level up because Abra sleeps all day. It can even teleport in its sleep.
But, sadly, it doesn't. It only learns teleport.

You want seismic toss vs Zam and Exegg, although I see why it was tempting to burn that TM in the early game. I'll admit I didn't expect to see toxic here. It does work well with rest. However, you may have been able to squeeze by at a lower level with psychic, seismic toss, rest and toxic. You may want to rethink mimic strats or even rest on squishy mons like Abra because they can't risk setting up and don't stall well. Although it might be funny to have a swords dancing Abra. Another possibility here is actually mimicking leech seed which would boost your stall much more than toxic, allowing you to KO faster with seismic toss.
Also I have no clue why you'd pick fire punch over barrier. Psychic, ice punch, thunderpunch and barrier would've carried you all the way through the champion. It's why I had this jank moveset on my Mewtwo in Gen 4 with charge beam, icy wind, psychic and drain punch lol.

I love the "what-if" bit in the end! Even if it trivializes the idea, it was a nice section to showcase "an unleashed potential."
I would like to see similar to be done with other Pokémon but I started to realize it wouldn't work as nicely with others. Like Caterpie, Kakuna nor Magikarp won't benefit from the generational shift at all, and legendary birds would make sense only for giving something to play with before they start to learn level up moves.
So what's only left, is a hack where you could use newer Pokémon with only moves that existed in Gen 1.
Probably a topic for another time.

Abra is physically frail, starts with only Teleport and will need to use Struggle, No level up moves, the majority of Kanto TMs are physical attacks, and the closest things to consistent special attack damage it can exploit are TM Psychic and TM Mimic which aren't even accessible until roughly half way through the run.
Getting strategically creative with your limited moveset options and good TM management seems like it will be key aspects of getting the best run possible.

Gen 2 Abra story: The second time I played through the Crystal Clear romhack, I decided to go beat Blue first (since it lets you tackle gyms in any order, scaling up/down gym leaders' teams based on your badge count).
I expected an easy fight against something like an Eevee and Pidgey, but he crushed me with an elemental-punch Abra. Since then, that OP glass cannon sleepy fox feels more quintessentially "Blue" to me than either Eevee or Squirtle.

I thought that was the case too but it isn’t in all circumstances. For initial playthroughs it’s the best choice. Especially with first stage Pokémon. But if a Pokémon has a lot of power I tends to be better for real-time to use some around the level jump in the mid game.

    • @p.zansei3280
      @p.zansei3280 2 роки тому

@@ScottsThoughtsPokemon true. Though I think an argument can be made that for well, most initial playthroughs, that both the early game grind, and the time spent training and gaining stat experience in the beginning is often a better investment and saves time when than slogging through the midgame.
Abra isn't a fair example, per se, but it's a pattern for many fast and fragile mons are that getting lower levels at brock split likely corrolates with a less consistent mid or late game.
Oftentimes anecdotally those few extra early game trainers can mean easier consistency all the way till the inevitable Koga/Sabrina/Blaine split...
      But that's my hypotheses, anyway.

    Hello Scott!
Started watching your videos fairly recently but I find myself always wanting to watch them again and again! I actually got inspired to start trying my own solo attempts as well.
Specifically I did a solo Nidoking run of Pokémon yellow last night on my twitch stream, beating the league at level 63 with a couple resets here and there. I’m eagerly looking forward to seeing when you do Nidoking and Bidoqueen and put me to shame! 😂😂
All seriousness though, keep up the good work! ^^

Hey! It makes me really happy to know that my videos are worth rewatching! Nidoking vs Nidoqueen is something I’m really looking forward to.

    Hey Scott,
first time commenter here. I just wanna thank you for doing these!
You say most people watch your vids while doing something else. For me, however, it has gotten into some kind of tradition to watch you before sleep on the switch.
( I hope you dont take that in any way negative ). Not because they are boring, but as someone who often enough struggles to find sleep it just helps to have something chill ( and long enough ) to watch in the dark while hopefully getting tired doing it. And i still watch every second consciously!
I was introduced to this type of videos by Jrose, but over time i've grown to like your videos over his, because of your consistency and, dare i say, quirkiness.
I just wanted to get this in before i watch the video later, in the hope's you'll read it, cause in some vid you mentioned it is getting harder to do so.

Only half way thru video, but Scott you should utilize Tri attack more often and could of used thunder wave with Abra more often as well since you taught it to it. But that's just my friendly opinion! Love your videos bro! Keep up the good work

Abra's pretty much Schrödinger's Pokémon, how can be so bad (early on) yet have such potential for greatness?
The first gym was literally a "struggle" (Ba-dum-tss) but at least it gained tons of momentum onece it got Psychic... And I'm happy for Tangela, it has a friend now xD
Good job today, be sure to take a rest... you definitely earned it.
.P.S.: Koffing next week? Ooof... Another tough one for sure.

If during that rival battle which took 28 tries you let yourself faint to the eevee to get the xp from the sparrow youd have to use all your teleports again. Also, if you lose that rival battle you cant challenge him again, as winning, losing or ignoring that fight determines what the rival evolves his eevee into

Well, that pain is at least over. I know that Ditto is possible. (It's all about figuring out when to either Transform or Struggle against the opponent.) However, I don't believe Weedle is possible. I just don't see how, even if you use Struggle, you can realistically pull that off. Yeah, I really don't see it happening.
(Oh, and if anyone brings up that one guy who DID do it, just know, I think there's some shenanigans going on there. I'm sure he modified his Weedle.)
