Boo didn't even give me a shout out on chat for telling you to take wrap. I was hopeful for a shout out. That was so clutch in the stream.
Pinned. Thank you Tyler for giving me the Wrap idea during the stream. Seriously one of the most awesome strategies! I hope that there will be a chance to use it in the future too.
I filmed this back in December so I lost the chat log by the time I recorded the voice over and forgot who told me about the strat. I'm working to find a way to record the chat into the video so this doesn't happen in the future btw!
@@ScottsThoughtsPokemon no worries Scott it was so funny to watch it in action. Wonder if you will get a chance for a para wrap strat at some point.
@@tyler5271 crybaby
@@olavjorvik94 did you seriously just make a post and then like your own post haha. Good job.
@@tyler5271 no. Honestly not. Never done that in my entire life. Someone liked it 2 minutes ago, wouldn’t shock me if it was you, just to write that comeback. But it was all just a joke bro, relax. Just find it a bit attention seeking, when Scott is working so hard making all these amazing videos, and you’d want him to make note of everyone giving him a helpful tip, and to then edit them in to this. But, as I said, just a joke. Considered throwing on an emoji of some kind, couldn’t be bothered. I’ll do it now😂
Before this even goes live, my thoughts and prayers are with you. Thankfully doduo has a spare head because I lost mine when I did this challenge in Red
Even in the comments you amazing jokes.
Still rooting for a crabby play through. The trifecta of Pokémon, animal, and mood
It's Krabby by the way
I was expecting a bad run from that title. Instead, it turned out that Doduo was actually really good I'm happy. Always liked the Doduo line, but they're usually hidden in more obscure parts in the games they appear in, and generally quite a bit later. Great runs.
Love it, as always.
As for re-ranking the tiers, you might automate that. You could use a bell curve and say "anything that is within 1/2 standard deviation of the mean is C-tier. Next 1/2 SD is B/D. Next is A/E. Next is S/Bruno".
I’ve always thought Lorelei was definitely the hardest member of the E4 in Gen 1! She doesn’t have any repeats, all of her Pokémon are fully evolved, Ice is fantastic in Gen 1, & she doesn’t have 2 Onix. Especially in Yellow when her move sets are significantly better.
Agreed. I think for solo challenges the champion is usually slightly harder, but his strength comes from the fact you can’t switch out. Lorelei is certainly the strongest if you can.
I enjoy that Lorelei is the gate to ensure you are ready for the Elite 4. If you can’t get past bulky Pokémon with good defensive and offensive typing, you’re not getting anywhere. Maybe past Bruno, but that’s it.
Slightly irrelevant but I would be intrigued to see a missingno playthrough for April Fools or something, since it's classed as a normal/bird (literally bird not flying) type it could open up a whole new avenue of venemoth typing jokes too.
Didn't want to ruin the nice number of comments on your community post. Sounds like you had a nice day though. Nice!
Is there a reason the enemy trainers’ special stat uses a different background colour to yours? The other four stars match up
*stats not stars.
It is the same colour.
Blaine's Ninetales is even more intimidating, because Tail Whip is _nine times_ as effective as usual.
took me a moment. good one.
Good one 🤣😂🤣😂
Lmao XD
Oh, man, I love a good pun!
Nine badge boosts 🤔
Sky Attack might not be a practical move, but I just wanted to note its Japanese name of "God Bird". That is amazing.
WHAT?! It is! That's so cool.
Dude that's epic ... Lol
If it got the skullbash treatment itd be so much better. Even damage reduction the first turn would make it usable
@@ScottsThoughtsPokemon hey man I’m rallying the people slowly but surely 😂 we shall receive our strongest stab moves eventually no matter 2 turns or not! Tust in the RNG lol 😂
Doesnt the gen 9 animation look like the gen 2 animation for that one? Or was that bravebird...
For Doduo/Dodrio being able to learn fly somehow, I always went with the Samurai Jack Logic. "No fly. Jump good."
Let's jump from city to city
I always thought that it was the heads acting like a helicopter. Dodrio was faster because it had tail feathers.
@Down Bad it has a large ball bearing at the base of its necks. This allows the whole head and neck to function as helicopter blades independent of the body.
@Down Bad The necks are the rotors and the body is where the pilot would sit. It's fine, probably...
@@Naxhus2 no youd need to be away from the base of the necks while spinning. Doduo would need to hold you in its feet to be safe from the spinning heads.
I just wanna say that you are the best solo run youtuber bar none, the effort you put in is insane. It's so thorough and almost scientific that it makes me want to make my own. It's always a joy when the notification for scott's thoughts pops up.
Thank you so much. Working hard and loving every moment of it!
I really love the power of video editing. All the edits skipping trainers and walking in/out of buildings are so smooth and seamless. I am impressed everytime it happens.
Agreed. Instinct says there ought to be a random battle animation, but they just never arrive, and he moves on.
Shawn and Richard are killing it with these edits!
This bird hits like a truck
Gotta say the yellow runs are iconic at this point. The knowledge of the jank and game mechanics without the brutal over-efficiency of a Speedrun makes a run that really does grapple with the complex intended and unintended mechanics of Yellow. Incredible games and great runs.
It's got really good stats for a first stage. Up there with Staryu. Its frailty sucks. I lost one in a low BST Yellow Nuzlocke run.
When I was a truck driver, I'd listen to your videos as I drove across the country. Now that I'm back home, I'm super excited to actually get to watch them too
Dodou was always my go-to in Little Cup. When Sycther, Chansey and Porygon got their evos in gen 2, Dodou was a nice threat to their domination in the metagame
Been waiting for a Gen 1 miss on the self destructing hiker, that made my day
Yeah, this is a moment I am going to remember when this series in Yellow is done!
This definitely happened to me as a kid more than once; to the point where I was under the impression that Self-destruct was not 100% accurate!
Only thing better would be if all 3 got one, but the odds of that are astronomical, so if it ever does happen trek everyone to pay attention and look at it, otherwise this was the greatest moment for me or if ask of these episodes. Don't worry still going to watch every one though.
there is a TAS of pokemon blue that uses that strategy of having that hiker gen1 miss the 3 self destructs

I just love the concept of two-headed kiwi being able to drill with its beaks.
Or coconut! Kiwi works as well 😄
*Me making dinner for my family and listening to the latest Scott's thoughts play through
"Doduo does have nice health..."
*me checking to make sure it was an obligatory 6 and 9 joke
Niceeeee
While I'm sure the big takeaway from the First Attempt E4 will be the Lorelei stuff, I do want to say that I think the on-the-fly thinking to Mimic Wrap is a masterstroke.
Regarding the random shiny tangent when getting rest:
Before Scarlet and Violet, I'd only ever found 2 shinies, not including guaranteed ones like Red Gyarados. A Tauros in gen 4 and a Drilbur in gen 8.
In Scarlet, I've found... Well, technically 3. A random shiny Swablu (which was really lucky because I like Altaria a lot), a random shiny Meditite, and using the exploit, a bunch of shiny Flutter Manes (counting that as only one because of how easy that exploit is)
Ready for the Dewgong run. He's being slept on
Dewgong is sleeping on us too.
One day, I'd love to see a Missingno run of Yellow! The bird type tetris block shaped thing deserves a chance!
Word. Another Scott’s Thoughts video. I’m gonna be the one to sound selfish and admit that I actually miss the daily content. For some reason your videos along with JRose11 and some other select solo PokeTubers are really good for background content while I’m doing things. Either way, I’d assume that was a lot on you mentally. Keep putting out the great content! It’s much appreciated cause it helps with telling people which Pokémon are good for whatever stage of the game so we can decide how teams can work for a story playthrough that one takes their time on.
Things might be slow now. But this year will feature the most content I’ve ever made in a 12 month period. Just wait till April ends.
Looking forward to this video doduo was one of my favorite Pokémon’s idk why but I used it a lot .
I always loved using Dodrio. Hopefully it's preevolved form does well!🤞
The moral of this video is: Flying is a really good offensive type
Ngl I was a bit burnt out of solo challenges after the last month but happy to see this in the sub box. Simply good content.
Best gen 1 bird spotted!
Alright this baddy actually got a good flying type move that isn't fly in drill peck. As one of only three lines one of which is zapdos.
Otherwise body slam and tri attack (one of my favorite moves) are good, normal typing generally helps in the early game.
High crit rate and a multi hit move should render brock okayish, maybe. Having both stabs early on is also nice with peck.
No coverage but some utility in reflect agility and other stuff scott always uses. Since ghost aren't an issue this time it'll probably be a fine run but just require some training and raw strength to oull through. (No sd is criminal)
The cuts after each unimportant trainer battle are so sick
Awesome video, as always
I would enjoy seeing you do a randomizer solo challenge with venomoth where it's type changes every battle!
In another video there was talk of such a run, however the type would randomise after each major battle such as gym and rival battles.
Also he wouldn't be able to check the new type and would instead have to figure out.
@@jotarokujo3603 This would make more sense and probably be more fun to watch, Im sure we would all enjoy watching Scott get stuck fighting brock with an electric/normal Venomoth!
I do feel that as chaotic as changing types every battle is, if you have an unfavorable typing you can always battle a wild Pokémon to change typings until you get a good defensive or offensive typing. I don’t know if that is good because there are no softlocks or grindspots based off of type alone, but it could also lead to type farming.
I think there were quite a few places where Double Edge would have given you a narrow one/two hit that Body Slam didn't. You already went to the Rocket Hideout and basically had a spare moveslot so I think it would be a good idea. Maybe I'm underestimating the recoil though.
The recoil is really awful which is usually why I avoid that move. It’s really only useful if you can use it to ko 1 particularly tricky Pokémon like the champions Alakazam for example.
36:21 it's not unthaw, it's thaw. Unthaw means to un-melt, or freeze. Just thought I'd comment it
funny how none flying pokemon is a one flying type and two can learn fly. I think flying type mean you can fly
odd and funny
I think as its bird pokemon and we list birds like penguin as bird animals so I gusse thats why its flying type.
how dose a none flying type pokemon learn fly maybe its like Buzz Lightyear and just falls with attitude
i've only been subbed to you for like a month or less. but i really enjoy this content. the UI is so good too, all the info being there is satisfying
also i love the unique artwork for each of those trainers, the rapping lass, and the self-destructing hiker. very fun
Welcome to the channel you should check out his older vids if you want to get a small chuckle from the cringe
It is very cringe. I highly recommend grimer if you want a challenge: can you sit through the whole video without clicking off. Hehe
Welcome to the channel btw!
"I haven't found a Shiny in SV yet." We found the final Shiny-less person, gang!
For Dragonite, I'm thinking maybe it's better to just go for Body Slam instead of hoping for a Hyper Beam oneshot. You lose the chance to oneshot of course, but in exchange you don't have to take two guaranteed turns from Dragonite if you miss the range.
On the whole though, I was a bit surprised by these results. Not the performance I expected!
Im looking forward to dodrios performance. Its my favorite non legendary gen 1 flyer. Has great speed and attack with decent bulk. And a solid move pool. Not the best but quite solid.
I’m looking forward to it too!
Flying types are my favorite type. Excited to see some more of them
Would you try a Slowbro vs Slowking solo challenge? Solobro vs Soloking?
Being a fan of the Pokemon Stadium/Colosseum games, the animations for Doduo in that game lead me to believe Doduo flies by kicking the air - like pegasi canonically do in some of the Fire Emblem games.
Scott: In the gen 1 games, there's no chance that you unthaw...
Me: What do you mean? You just got frozen! That's unthawing, isn't it :)?
How....how does a doduo wrap?......do...does it hug the pokemon with both necks?....does it stretch out like that Japanese monster and then wraps?.....SO MANY QUESTIONS!
Definitely hugs with both necks.
Just realized Venomoth was the first bug/dragon Pokemon ever made, and then I realized why they never did any other
Huh that’s funny I thought Venomoth was Dark/Ghost
Check out vennonoth's first tcg card. It literally changes type so its a nice coincidence. Oh and the only shiny I've gotten in scarlet is a chansey, take it from me just keep it a chansey if you ever get one.
This was such a fun run to watch! Doduo do did it! 😂
Great job Scott! Looking forward to the next one 🙏🏾
I believe in Doduo, just like how I believe Gamefreak will one day give us a pre-evolved baby version with only one head.
You know you want a Dosolo.
I want that so badly
I really love this little guy and it’s evolution is still awesome I’m glad to see it!
Taking a shot everytime Scott says "damage rounding threshold"
Ah my favorite line of fliers in gen 1 and honestly dodrio rocks in gen 2 as well. No answers for rock type weakness other than mimic though. Frail little bird in its first form, but drill peck ought to hit like a truck.
Scott!
Link!
Doduo being fed all that protein. "GAINS!!! GAINS!!!!!!!! GAIIIIIINNNNNNNNNSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
So many gains it gained a second head
18:50 Wow Scott. No secondary effect? Listen buddy, I know for a fact that Tri Attack can cause three separate status afflictions, because it does so in later generations. No, I'm not going to actually check on bulbapedia if I'm right or not. That's for losers! I'm just gonna sit comfy, confident that my memory is correct and my knowledge of these games immaculate B)
The perfect comment.
@@ScottsThoughtsPokemon I hope you keep having fun making/doing pokemon challenge runs and stuff :)
Glad you’ve rearranged the tier list, I agree it was way too top heavy :)
Oh Doduo! Doduo and Dodrio are my favorite Gen 1 birds! Hope it does well
I love that Scott gets the best runs through the powers of MATH.
I recently started playing Pokemon yellow again. I haven't touched it since I was a kid, and I'm now 34. I found this channel after searching what moves Raticate can learn and I have been binge watching your videos now. Love this content!
Glad you’re enjoying!
Slightly interesting side note: Body slam can't paralyze normal types in Gen 1.
The thumbnail art is so adorable! Just a cute little birb
All thumbnail's will have custom art this year! (Artist link in description, he's awesome!)
9:10 Or rather, multi-hit moves deal exactly the same amount of damage as the very first hit, without paying attention whether it was a critical or not. So if the first hit was a critical hit, the others will also be "critical".
Regarding modding out the evolution sequence, I might argue, most of your runs treat these 'mon as single-stage, so modding this out brings parity with actual single-stage 'mon. But, as you said, that brings in further disparity with natural runs (though that's always gonna be the case considering Surge's trash cans).
Congrats to your fiance for catching those shinies. I love Shinx a lot and definitely need to find one in Scarlet/Violet ^^
I got a shiny Cacnea just after recording this audio!
@@ScottsThoughtsPokemon congrats to you, too ^^
That first playthrough reminded me of the time i did this challenge with Spearow, and all i can say is that it is Dodrio but 10x worse, with less moves, no body slam, and also an even lower special stat (and lower stats in general but special hurts it the most).
I did manage to finish the game with Spearow but i had to do a lot of shenanigans to beat it, like using mimic to learn clamp from Lorelei's Cloyster and pray that i hit all of them just to guarantee i didn't get oneshot by either Cloyster or Lapras.
If you ever do a solo run with Spearow in the future, i hope you have spare sanity to lose, because i can confirm you, Lorelei will be a nightmare.
Lorelei is basically evil against any Fire, Rock, Ground, Dragon, and Flying type. Grass types do have a fighting chance unless if you are Vileplume.
@@shadowtitanx3962 Why Vileplume?
@@skeetermania3202 low speed probably
@@shadowtitanx3962 Fire’s honestly not that bad. Neutral damage against stuff like Cloyster, and decent special stats are great for mimicking Slowbro’s Amnesia, especially when it’s not going to use that move.
Far from the worst mistake you'll make with a playthrough target... haha
"But -- uh, the trainer, I mean -- uses a "
Took multiple seconds to calculate what I was meant to've heard. Between play like this and the sly recurring digs ("Six trainers left, one's the champion, and four are elite"), I do enjoy your scripts.
Doduo's Pokemon Yellow dex entry-
"Its short *wings* make flying difficult. Instead, this POKéMON runs at high speed on developed legs."
Doduo is one of my favorite, if not my favorite Flying-type! It’s so cute! It also loves to run fast! Which is a great way to get your heart pumping, and get some exercise! Maybe you can even build up some Agility of your own! Too bad I’m not very fast
Awesome run as always 😁 i have to correct you a little though, you arent invirnerable while in the air with fly, you can still get hit by bide and swift in gen 1. In later generations you get hit by sky uppercut, twister and thunder 👍
17:40
Wondering if Body Slam + Drill Peck would be enough to KO, since Body Slam has a higher chance at paralysis than the chance to crit and one-shot with Drill Peck.
So I'm not the only one who's head canon was the bird's heads spinning like a helicopter blades to fly.
They really should have made it actual canon.
Not the most unbelievable thing to have in the Pokedex.
After all they got a slug that burns so hot that it matches the sun(the whole world would become another Mercury if that was the case) or some fairy psy type that can produce a singularity at will(which would destroy the planet or the local area at minimum.
So head spinning bird copter isn't that farfetched (pun intended).
Fun Fact: Sky Attack (Known as God Bird in Japanese) is a reference to the super moves of various Super Robots such as Raideen and Trider. The more you know!
That was a painful watch for the first round. But hey, kinda fitting Doduo needed two runs to really shine, right? =P

Duduo flying must be like some old Looney Tunes cartoon where Bugs Bunny probably uses his ears to as helicopter blades.
Also caught myself a Nice shiny Maschiff
I haven't found an S/V shiny yet either and I just beat the game 😢 I've been looking for shiny sinistea or dreepy cuz the evos are my fave pkmn. If anyone wants to trade lmk.
Those growls really helped against Bruno, the exploding Hiker. Just wonder what he's doing in some random cave instead of at the E4
I think you should just call it a "drt" (pronounced dirt)
Damage Rounding Threshold
I wanted dirt at 13.
Happy New Year!
I know Dodrio is one of the better Normal/Flying types in RBY, both in competitive and in-game, but don’t know how Doduo compares. I’m predicting that it will be a Glass cannon that enjoys having good STAB moves, but gets walled by any Rock types it meets.
Pretty much the story of any Normal/Flying type in Gen 1. Whether it learns Drill Peck or not pretty much determines its viability so if it doesn't get Drill Peck, it's pretty much always trash by default since other Flying STAB options are weak and Fly and Sky Attack are 2 turn moves with Sky Attack not making you invulnerable for a turn.

Double saving was really silly, if you got through easily you wouldn't need to reset, if you didn't it might've been the wrong time to use them
I can definitely understand saving once, thinking of the strategy, and then saving to lock it in. Time to see how it pans out.
23:39 that's the funniest way of saying "mixed attackers" I've heard yet; maybe you might make this another one of your "catchphrases".
That Rocket's Golbat has both Supersonic _and_ Confused Ray? Guy's spec'ing hard.
I never thought I would be shown in one of your videos. I’m glad you liked my shiny venomoth (I’m CEO of comedy).
idk why people are still theorizing about how doduo flies. Pokemon Stadium literally animated it. He simply kicks until he is in the air and continues kicking wildly to suspend himself in the air.
Just want to say I’ve a new found hate for your Fiancé those are my two favourite Pokémon and just finding them isn’t ok! 😂
I happened to stumbke upon a full odds flamigo in violet. Haven't run into anything with shiny charm though haha
Back when i was a kid when it came to flying pokemon everyone always picked spearow or pidgey but i picked doduo because dodrio is both faster and hits harder then the other 2.
You should have been using body slam against venomoth because it is a rock electric type so drill peck is 4 x resisted but body slam is 2x resisted
Mimic wrap strat? I’ll take ways I didn’t expect to beat Lance for $400 Scott.
No shiny pokemon yet? I caught 2 shiny Marill and KO'ed a shiny Lechonk.
No evasion moves really hurts pokes who learn them by leveling up when they arent the best w/o them, like say, muk, but fair :)
Not gonna lie! The title totally drew me in. We like to see you suffer! In the most loving way possible
“Worst mistake yet” I can think of a wingless bat fighting ghosts that would vehemently disagree with that
Doduo's backsprite is definitley one of the worst, its such a simple pokemon but everything about it is off lol
Fun fact about this bird in gen 7 Game Frank give it Sword Dance and Jump Kick
What are you? A knight in the lands of king kabutops or a duke in the country ruled by lord helix.
I freaking love Duduo. It's one of my favorite Pokémon!
I actually got two random shinies playing through scarlet. A Olaf and a cufant.
