The Queen was always in love with Philip, of that I have no doubt. Of course other women chased him him, adored him, that is why the Queen was taken by his charm. My husband in his day was absolutely gorgeous, so it came as no surprise to me when so many drooled over him. It is, what it is 🤔

It had it's ups and downs, as do all relationships, but they were from an era that once you were married, you worked out your problems. My favorite picture of the two of them was from a few years ago when he was dressed up as one of those guards with the bearskin hats, standing ramrod straight...and she's walking past and giggling. The world will never have a love story like this again.

I was absolutely mesmerized listening to this story of two people in love who happened to be royals and were always aware of the roles that they accepted to constantly be in the eye of the public.
I am American but have always been drawn to stories about the royal family and with age came to the realization that they were not pretending characters in the fairytales we read with wide eyed excitement but real people with real feelings and failures but still wanted to be accepted by all of us. I think the new King and Queen are great examples of that desire to be accepted even though they and their lives have not been perfect. I have and think many more have come to appreciate a love that endured through public scrutiny and even embarrassment.
The Prince and Princess of Wales seem to have a love for each other that shows through when they have those glances toward with a smile that looks very much like two shy teens with a crush on each other

thanks for touching on philip's sister relationships, rarely discussed. i've always thot the press was zenophobic, if not mannerless, but what happened to philip was knock out of the park. that he survived it, with QEII was fantastic.
also, i want out point out philip, as the greatgrandson of king christian IX, had the last name of oldenburg.- so i see both harry and william being both oldenburgs. another interesting fact in the matrilineal house of garsenda, philip was a son in this matrilineal long branch of history, by way of victoria's line. elizabeth was in the patrilineal line, so not a part of the house of garsenda. i'm still fascinated by philip. thanks again from seattle.

@lindafielding. You make an important point. Tessa Dunlop seems to me to be a super-saleswoman. All that breathless enthusiasm, and a very clear understanding of her market. But, sadly, she has taken the well-trodden route. She takes no account of the Queen’s extraordinary personality. Her stoicism, her amazing ability to block things out - encouraged in her strict early training by Queen Mary, whose own stoicism was legendary. The Queen put the Monarchy above everything else, denying herself and others : Charles’s marriage was partly her doing : a total denial of the heart. His education was stubbornly mishandled. Who was Andrew’s mentor from childhood to middle age ? Well, Philip was officially Head of the Family - given that role by the Queen at her unexpected and sudden Accession. He quite obviously put his mark on the children. Anne has certain masculine qualities - and is sharply dismissive of femininity. A regular historian would have pondered these things - but popular writers aim at a market . And that’s what we have here. A nice read for the fans.

    FUN FACTS:
Prince Philip was not only a Prince of Greece, he was actually Prince Philip of Greece AND Norway.
Prince Philip's cousin was The Princess Marina of Norway. Marina became the Duchess of Kent when she married Queen Elizabeth's uncle, Prince George, The Duke of Kent. Marina, through marriage also became Queen Elizabeth's Aunt. So through 2 marriages (Prince George to Princess Marina & Princess Elizabeth to Prince Philip) Philip's cousin Marina became Philip's aunt through marriage as well.

The King didn’t want Pr Philip to marry Princess Elizabeth because Pr Philip was the son of a deposed King who was also a philanderer and a mother who was mentally unstable. The family was penniless too,So Philip was looked upon as a gold digger.Dickie Mountbatten was heavily involved in introducing Princess Elizabeth to Pr Philip with and eye to having him marry her and possibly introducing the Mountbatten name into the British Royal family, which as it turned out did happen but as only a part of the name.
Pr Phillip was often referred to in lower quarters,or maybe even whispered in higher society as,Phil the Greek. It is of course true that there were many people critical of the Royal family, as there are today, but it is in these times with social media, the internet and all that is flying around in the ether everyone can post their opinions in a massive way.
I can remember as a teenager reading all the papers and listening to the gossip of the neighbours about Pr Philip, most of it negative, mostly coming from the older people.

His Brother In-law were involved, not Prince Phillip.
Phillip actively fought for the other side.
His Mother Princess Alice hid Jews from the Germans when she lived in Greece.

I disagree about the notion of marriage changing was the problem for Charles. Charles’ problem was that he allowed a girl who was in love with him to walk down the aisle when he (1) was not in love with her, (2) had a mistress, and (3) had no intention of keeping his marriage vows. The fact that Charles is a prince or king aside, the dude is a douchebag! If Charles had done that to an Italian-American girl, he would’ve been whacked. As much as HMTQ upheld the standard of marriage is how lowly Charles regarded it, and thus is really not fit to be the Head of the Church of England and thus not fit to be King.

As sad as it is to say Charles and Camilla are obviously a true love match. It is why arranged marriage should not be forced or tolerated. The hearts want what they want. People have a right to live their hearts true desire regardless of position.

All of what you said is a lie. He was not seeing Camilla when they married and he had every intention of keeping his marriage vows. All that garbage were the lies of a bitter bulimic who was herself the mistress of at least 3 married men. Take your blinders off. Bulimic lie, they are mentally ill. You should try living with one.

Don’t you think you should inform yourself instead of repeating the same false claims even after 25 years?
Charles was infatuated with Diana and convinced he could make it work. Diana wasn’t quite open to him just as well: for instance she pretended to love country life and Scotland. And most importantly: as Diana herself later admitted she had several affairs and he only started his affair with Camilla after the marriage had broken down.

@@Celisar1 But what about that infamous reply: “Whatever in love means….” ? No infatuated man would have wriggled like that. It startled everyone and hurt Diana very much. I don’t blame Charles altogether, but we only have his word about when he started his affair with Camilla. The truth is, Charles was trapped by his position. Where could he go ? Why could he do ? It was a no-win situation for both of them. Diana was hopeful ,naive and strongly maternal. She had never had an affair and was completely out of her depth.

It didn’t work! They just had enough money and homes to separate until they had an engagement to do together. He had a 20 year affair with Pat Kirkwood. He did whatever he wanted.
And Andrew looks a LOT like Porchy.

The idea of the Queen having an affair is ludicrous. He did not have an affair with Pat Kirkwood or anyone else. They did not separate, you know nothing, just regurgitating innuendo.
